51. Chapter 50

Chapter 50: KickinChicken Vs Dark DogDay: The Taste Of Karma

KickinChicken was silent while riding his motorcycle away from Home Sweet Home with Hoppy behind him. He looked at Hoppy while slowing his motorcycle down.

"That… That was CatNap, wasn't it?" KickinChicken asked Hoppy,

"That was him." Hoppy replied, "Except, he goes by… Theodore, now."

"And it was him that brought out that giant whale, huh?"

"Yup. It's something to do with him being a Dark Critter."

KickinChicken sighed sadly.

"You ok?" Hoppy asked him,

"Y-Yes, I'm fine." KickinChicken replied, "I just didn't want you to get hurt."

"Thanks. You really saved my ass back there again."

"Heh heh… You're welcome."

KickinChicken then looked at the next pillar of light.

"So the first pillar of light was at Home Sweet Home." He said, "Where does this lead us to?"

"Better rev up the engine and find out." Hoppy said,

KickinChicken then rides the motorcycle faster as he and Hoppy follow to where the next pillar of light takes them to.

There, they stopped at the Sports Colosseum where the 8-Critter Duel Monsters Tournament was held.

"Isn't this where…" KickinChicken said, shocked

"Yes, that's from the tournament we were part of." Hoppy said,

"Oh crap…"

"Hey, don't worry, I gotcha. Let's go in together."

"Alright."

As they got off, KickinChicken felt he was walking on paper.

"Hmm?" He wondered as he went down to pick it up and noticed a note, "If you're KickinChicken, be alone. Now."

"...I guess they don't trust me then." Hoppy said as she stand near the motorcycle,

KickinChicken sighed.

"Well, guess I'm alone for this one." He said as he looked at the colosseum, "Alright, let's get this over with."

KickinChicken then looked over to the colosseum that was now abandoned when the sky turned red.

"This place has gone to rot already?" He said, shocked, "Damn…"

As KickinChicken was walking out, he heard a crowd going off. He went outside to notice something bizarre.

"W-Wait?! Is that… me?" He said, "And Hoppy? That's our duel together at the tournament, wasn't it?"

What KickinChicken saw was a memory of duel between him and Hoppy and how KickinChicken went insane after he won the duel and Hoppy's thoughts on their relationship ending.

"Shit…" He said, "That started my downward spiral, didn't it?"

KickinChicken then heard screaming as he went over to where it came from. He then saw another vision of himself, only this time, beating up DogDay. He gasped in horror.

"Oh my God!" He said as he ran away to act like he didn't see it, "Why did I do that? Why did I do that?!"

As KickinChicken took a deep breath to face forward, he saw someone. It was another masked critter in red and black. Was it a vision?

"H-Hey! Can you see me?" KickinChicken hollered,

The masked critter then ran off to the stairs towards his right. It wasn't a vision, it was real.

"Wait up!" He shouted,

KickinChicken then followed the masked critter to the center of the colosseum, the Dueling Field. The masked critter was on the other side of the Dueling Field as KickinChicken made it outside.

"Found you!" He said, "Looks like you wanna duel, huh?"

"Indeed." The masked critter replied in a different yet glitchy tone as he then shuffled for the card that he has hidden, "And considering that I have 41 cards in this deck, I don't need this card to beat you."

The masked critter then puts the card he has away to activate his Duel Disk. Same for KickinChicken as he activated his as well.

"Shall we?" He asked KickinChicken,

"Y-Yes!" KickinChicken replied, "I don't know who you are, but I WILL beat you in this duel!"

"Heh… beat me… I won't let you get away with that again…"

KickinChicken was worried, but seemed confident to win this duel.

"Duel!" Both KickinChicken and the masked critter shouted to start the Duel,

Turn 1

KickinChicken: 4000

Masked Critter: 4000

The masked critter then started the duel off. He then played a Field Spell with no hesitation.

"I activate the Field Spell, Earthbound Prison." He said,

Earthbound Prison was activated as the Field Spell came to life around the duel. KickinChicken was looking around before looking back at the masked critter.

"During my Main Phase, I can Normal Summon or Set an additional "Earthbound" monster." The masked critter said, "

"Earthbound?" KickinChicken said,

"I'll show you an example of that."

The masked critter then revealed a monster in his hand.

"And when I control a Field Spell, I can Special Summon Earthbound Prisoner Stone Sweeper from my hand!" He said,

Earthbound Prisoner Stone Sweeper was Special Summoned in Defense Position with 1600 DEF Points.

"Next, I Normal Summon the tuner monster Earthbound Prisoner Line Walker in Attack Position." The masked critter continued as Earthbound Prisoner Line Walker was Normal Summoned in Attack Position with 800 ATK Points, "And when it's Normal Summoned, I can add one of the two specific cards it wanted me to add from my Deck to my Hand."

The masked critter then added a Spell Card known as Harmonic Synchro Fusion from his Deck to his Hand.

"Now this card, I'll save for later." He said as he then set two cards in the Spell/Trap Zones, "I set two cards before ending my turn."

KickinChicken gulped as he drew to start Turn 2. He looked at the card he drew, took a deep breath and revealed it to the masked critter.

"From my hand, I activate the effect of my Blackwing - Simoon The Poison Wind!" He said as he banished another monster, being Blackwing - Steam the Cloak, "By banishing another Blackwing monster from my hand, I can place a Black Whirlwind from my Deck to my Field and then Normal Summon this monster without tributing!"

Black Whirlwind was placed in KickinChicken's Spell/Trap Zone as KickinChicken then Normal Summoned Simoon The Poison Wind in Attack Position with 1600 ATK Points.

"This will then activate Black Whirlwind's effect after I Normal Summon Simoon." KickinChicken said, "Which lets me add a Blackwing monster with ATK Points less than or equal to the monster Normal Summoned."

KickinChicken then adds a monster known as Shamal The Sandstorm from his Deck to his Hand via Black Whirlwind.

"Then I Normal Summon again, but this time, the Tuner monster Blackwing - Shamal The Sandstorm!" He said as he does so,

The tuner monster, Shamal The Sandstorm was Normal Summoned in Attack Position with 1600 ATK Points.

"Now I'll add another Blackwing monster with ATK Points less than or equal to Shamal's through Black Whirlwind!" KickinChicken said as he does,

"Hold on." The masked critter said,

"Huh?"

"I activate the Trap Card, Bottomless Trap Hole."

The Trap Card, Bottomless Trap Hole was activated, surprising KickinChicken.

"Wait, what the heck?!" He said, shocked,

"When you summon a monster with 1500 or more ATK Points, I can destroy it and banish it." The masked critter said,

Shamal The Sandstorm was then destroyed and banished through the effect of Bottomless Trap Hole.

"Alright, what's going on?" He said, "Who are you?"

"You really want to know, KickinChicken?" The masked critter said,

"Yes! Hurry up and take that mask off!"

"Hmph… I'm not sure if you've changed or not after your trip to Wesley's Warehouse…"

"H-How did you…"

Red smoke started to come out of the mask of the masked critter as he deactivated it. He then took it off to reveal who he truly is. Surprising KickinChicken, the masked critter was DogDay!

"D-Dog-DogDay?!" KickinChicken said, shocked, "It's you?!"

DogDay smirked and chuckled menacingly.

"Come on, isn't it obvious?" He said, "The visions? The tournament? This colosseum we're in? I still remember that fateful day that you unleashed your anger on poor me."

Shocked, KickinChicken slowly had tears in his left eye.

"D-DogDay…" He said, "I'm sorry! I fucked up!"

DogDay clenched his teeth in disgust.

"Now you apologize…" He said as he put his mask down, "After the damage has been done."

"Please…" KickinChicken said, emotional, "I get it, ok? CraftyCorn–"

"--Don't bring up her! She doesn't exist anymore! She tore us apart! If you used your brain that you never used, then none of this would've happened!"

"DogDay…"

"Oh, don't even think about calling me DogDay anymore… The past is the past. Call me Baldwin now. Now, are you gonna continue with your turn?"

KickinChicken gulped in sorrow as he then adds a monster through Black Whirlwind's effect again, being Gale The Whirlwind.

"Ok…" He said as he sucked it up and revealed Gale The Whirlwind, "When I control a Blackwing monster, I can Special Summon the tuner monster, Blackwing - Gale The Whirlwind in Attack Position!"

Gale The Whirlwind was Special Summoned in Attack Position with 1300 ATK Points.

"And he has an effect where I can half the ATK and DEF Points of a monster you control!" He said, "So your Stone Sweeper's ATK and DEF Points are halved!"

Gale then used his effect to half Stone Sweeper's ATK and DEF Points to 800 each.

"Is that all?" DogDay wondered, taunting him,

"...No." KickinChicken replied with confidence, "I'm going to the Battle Phase!"

"What?!"

The Battle Phase started.

"Gale, attack Stone Sweeper!" KickinChicken shouted,

"Not so fast!" DogDay said, "I activate my other face-down card, being the Quick-Play Spell, Earthbound Fusion!"

Earthbound Fusion was revealed and activated.

"With this, I can Fusion Summon a DARK Fusion Monster using monsters from my hand or face-up on my field as Fusion Materials." DogDay said, "So I'm using my Earthbound Prisoners, Line Walker and Stone Sweeper as Fusion Materials!"

Line Walker and Stone Sweeper were used as Fusion Materials for a Fusion Summon.

"Now I Fusion Summon, Earthbound Servant Geo Gremlina!" DogDay said,

Earthbound Servant Geo Gremlina was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 2000 ATK Points.

"And when Geo Gremlina is Special Summoned, I can add an Earthbound monster from my Deck to my Hand." He said as he does so, being Earthbound Prisoner Ground Keeper.

"Crap, my monsters aren't powerful enough!" KickinChicken said,

"Of course they weren't. A waste of an effect from Gale The Whirlwind."

KickinChicken looked down at his hand.

"All useless…" He said,

DogDay smiled as he looked at KickinChicken.

"You call yourself a friend?" He asked him as he too got emotional, "Even after all the good times we've had throughout our life? You used to be cool."

"Cool…" KickinChicken said,

Flashbacks occurred in KickinChicken's point of view where he and DogDay were kids and having fun together outside with the rest of their friends, including CraftyCorn, CatNap and Hoppy. The same throughout their teenage years before CraftyCorn's sacrifice.

Back to the present moment, KickinChicken's tears fell down to the ground as he closed his eyes and sniffed while rubbing his eyes.

"Shit…" He said as he looked at his hand and set a card, "I set a card face-down. And before my turn ends, since Black Whirlwind was placed on my field through Simoon's effect, it's sent to the Graveyard. And I get to take 1000 points of damage.

Black Whirlwind was sent to the Graveyard as Simoon used his poisonous winds to deal 1000 points of damage to KickinChicken, leaving him with 3000 Life Points left. DogDay clenched his teeth again, but to calm down from the emotions getting to him.

"Looks like it's my turn then!" DogDay said as he drew to start Turn 3.

Turn 3.

KickinChicken: 3000

DogDay (Baldwin): 4000

DogDay looked at the card he drew and smiled, menacingly.

"I activate Pot Of Greed." He said as he activated it, "And it lets me draw 2 cards from my Deck."

DogDay draws 2 from his Deck through Pot Of Greed's effect and then Normal Summoned a monster.

"Now I Normal Summon the tuner monster Earthbound Prisoner Ground Keeper in Attack Position!" He said,

Earthbound Prisoner Ground Keeper was Normal Summoned in with 300 ATK Points.

"Another tuner…" KickinChicken said,

"That's right." DogDay said, "And he has an effect upon being Summoned. I can Special Summon another Level 5 or lower Earthbound monster from my Deck or Graveyard! And I'll be Special Summoning back my Stone Sweeper from my Graveyard!"

Earthbound Immortal Stone Sweeper was Special Summoned back from the Graveyard and in Defense Position again.

"Now through Earthbound Prison's effect, I can Normal Summon an Earthbound monster in addition to my Normal Summon or Set!" DogDay said, "And I'll be Normal Summoning another Earthbound Prisoner Line Walker!"

Another Earthbound Prisoner Line Walker was Normal Summoned in Attack Position with 800 ATK Points.

"Now, I tune my Level 3 Earthbound Prisoner Line Walker with my Level 5 Earthbound Prisoner Stone Sweeper!" DogDay said,

"A Synchro Summon…" KickinChicken said,

A Synchro Summon has started with Level 3 tuner Earthbound Prisoner Line Walker and Level 5 non-tuner Earthbound Prisoner Stone Sweeper.

"Sore into the darkness to give back what's mine!" DogDay chanted, "Synchro Summon!"

A new Earthbound monster slowly emerges from the Synchro Summon.

"Whirl from the dark, Level 8, Earthbound Servant Geo Gryphon!" DogDay shouted,

Earthbound Servant Geo Gryphon was Synchro Summoned in Attack Position with 2500 ATK Points.

"And now I activate Geo Gryphon's effect." DogDay said, "I can Special Summon an Earthbound monster from my Graveyard in Defense Position! So coming back, once more, is my Stone Sweeper!"

Earthbound Prisoner Stone Sweeper was brought back from the Graveyard again, in Defense Position.

"And for another Synchro Summon!" DogDay said, "This time, I tune my Level 1 Ground Keeper with my Level 5 Stone Sweeper!"

Another Synchro Summon has started, but this time with the Level 1 tuner Earthbound Prisoner Ground Keeper and the Level 5 non-tuner Earthbound Prisoner Stone Sweeper.

"I Synchro Summon, Level 6, Earthbound Servant Geo Gremlin!" DogDay shouted,

Earthbound Servant Geo Gremlin was Synchro Summoned in Attack Position with 2000 ATK Points.

"Geo Gremlin has an effect where you can choose one of its effects." DogDay said, "Based on a monster you control that I can target."

"Uh-oh…" KickinChicken said,

"So, will your Gale be destroyed? Or will it live and you gain Life Points equal to its ATK Points?"

"...Destroy it."

"No hesitation, huh? Good!"

Geo Gremlin then roared as it destroyed Gale The Whirlwind.

"You're down to one monster." DogDay said, "But you won't be getting away with any cards up your sleeve!"

"What now?" KickinChicken said,

"From my hand, I activate the Spell Card, Night Beam!"

Night Beam was activated.

"I can target a set Spell/Trap card you control and destroy it!" DogDay said, "But you cannot activate that targeted cards in response to my Night Beam's activation!"

"What?!" KickinChicken shouted,

Night Beam then shot out a laser from the card to destroy KickinChicken's face-down card, being a Mirror Force.

"M-My Mirror Force!" KickinChicken shouted in shocked,

DogDay then laughed menacingly.

"Battle!" He shouted as The Battle Phase started, "But I'm not done yet! I activate the other effect of my Geo Gremlin!"

"Another effect?!" KickinChicken shouted,

"During the Battle Phase, I can Fusion Summon an Earthbound Fusion Monster by banishing cards from my Field, Hand or Graveyard as Fusion Materials!"

"W-Wait what?!"

"Now, I use my Earthbound Servants Geo Gremlin and Geo Gremlina as Fusion Materials!"

'"Oh crap!"

Earthbound Servant Geo Gremlin and Geo Gremlina were used as Fusion Materials for another Fusion Summon.

"When shadows fuse with other shadows, the doors to the underworld will open up a new shadow full of raging power!" DogDay chanted, "Fusion Summon!"

A new Fusion Monster appeared.

"Now soar my opponent to Hell, Level 10, Earthbound Servant Geo Grasha!"

Earthbound Servant Geo Grasha was Fusion Summoned in Attack Position with 3000 ATK Points.

"DogDay, please!" KickinChicken shouted with tears, "This isn't like you!"

"This is the true me." DogDay said, "DogDay is no more. In The Hour Of Joy, there is only Baldwin."

DogDay then raised his hand out to Simoon.

"Geo Gryphon, attack Simoon The Poison Wind!" He shouted, "With Geo Whirlwinds!"

Geo Gryphon then spread its wings to create a windstorm from of earth shards and dark powers at Simoon, destroying it and dealing 900 points of damage to KickinChicken, leaving him with 2100 Life Points.

"DogDay, I'm sorry!" KickinChicken shouted, "Please! Forgive me!"

"There is no forgiveness!" DogDay shouted, "Geo Grasha, attack KickinChicken directly and show him the taste of karma!"

"NO!"

"GEO SHADOW STRIKE!"

Geo Grasha then absorbed a dark power on its fists and came down to strike at KickinChicken, dealing 3000 points of damage to him, draining his Life Points down to 0. DogDay won the duel as KickinChicken was on the ground, weakened.

"There." DogDay said, "I didn't even use my Earthbound Immortal on you, but that's ok. That will wait until the main course. This was only the appetizer."

DogDay then walked over to a weakened KickinChicken and grabbed him by the shirt.

"P-Please…" KickinChicken said, still with tears in his left eye and tears coming down his eyepatch, "Mercy…"

"I wanted mercy from you…" DogDay said, "But what did you do? You ruined me. And now, you must feel the same way."

DogDay raised a fist as KickinChicken closed his eye and screamed in fear.

"STOPPP!" KickinChicken shouted,

"HEY!" Hoppy shouted,

DogDay then lowered his fist to see Hoppy coming in. He smirked as he dropped KickinChicken and disappeared into the darkness.

"HEY! GET BACK HERE!" Hoppy shouted as she tried to get DogDay, but it was too late, he fully disappeared, "Damn it!"

Hoppy sighed heavily as she looked down at KickinChicken.

"That was DogDay, wasn't it?" She asked him,

KickinChicken was seen crying his eyes out, too emotional to answer. This made Hoppy feel bad.

"Shit…" Hoppy said as she went down to pick KickinChicken up and hugged him, "Here, it's ok…"

DogDay meanwhile was back in the structure part of the colosseum as he looked out the window to see KickinChicken and Hoppy hugging each other.

"...They're next." He said, "I must find Theodore."
