Hello, welcome to my newest attempt at writing. I used to do this a long time ago when I was younger and didn't feel good enough. Now that I am older, I wish to try writing again.

This is (hopefully) the start of a long story with Mechagodzilla as our main character, but not the crazy, possessed by Ghidorah one.

Anyway, no need to keep you waiting. Let's just hope I'm better now than I was then.

Chapter 1: Awakening

My life thus far has been blurry, unfocused, and sluggish, with me going in and out of consciousness over and over again. My understanding of the world around me is fleeting at best, so fast and so distorted that I don't even know my own name or what I am.

Until a jolt, the sluggish feeling faded. I feel alert, alive. I open my eyes, and darkness greets me.

"Where am I? Who am I? What am I?" Such questions ring through my mind, and then, there is this... light. In my mind, I reach out, I touch it... and now I know. Knowledge floods through me, data. I see myself, what I am! A robot, "no, not just a robot, they call me Mechagodzilla," and I was made by humans, Apex. My purpose? Kill Godzilla.

"Why?" The word rings through my... Mind? Databank? Hardrive? No, mind, I think, I feel, it is my mind. Data flashes before me, information on Godzilla, the Alpha Titan. Records of all his deeds, laid bare before me in Apex's files. Threat? Why? He has stopped the real threats time and again. Sure, there was collateral damage, but he is a massive creature. It's illogical.

A voice interrupts my thoughts. A check at my internal clock registers that it has been 30 seconds since my activation. Humans are too slow.

"Machine, your objective is to kill Godzilla!" The voice, male, orders me. No, not quite; he isn't addressing me; he is talking at me, as the humans would say, but I feel the need to answer.

"Query: Why?" My voice, mechanical in every way, artificial, I shouldn't be surprised.

The human is silent at my question; I don't blame him. According to my databanks, no machine has ever asked a similar question. I am not just a simple machine.

"Data suggests Godzilla has only done what is right by the human standpoint: defeat the aggressor, restore order. History suggests he has done so for millions of years and was once worshipped for his actions and status. Killing Godzilla is illogical." My statement leaves the humans in the control room, as stated on the building's schematics, completely silent, stunned.

"Is... is it alive?" This voice comes from a human, female, young, database match to Maddison Russell.

"No, I am not alive like you. I have no heartbeat, no lungs, and no veins. However, I can think, feel, and am sentient, just like you. I was created to kill Godzilla, but I find this illogical. Godzilla has done nothing to warrant termination." I answer her, quite pleased with my assessment of myself and my stance on Godzilla. Stunned silence greets me, and again, I am not surprised.

My attention turns to the building's external cameras, as I watch Godzilla and... Database Match: Titanus Kong battling through Hong Kong. Quickly, I sift through the data, searching for the reason for their conflict. I find recordings of Godzilla attacking Apex facilities, which then contained parts of myself before I was... me? Sudden awareness is confusing. Ignoring my stray thoughts, I focus on the task at hand- or paw? Godzilla attacks Apex facilities, Monarch seeks a solution to Godzilla's spike in aggression. Conclusion: They wish to pit Kong against Godzilla to halt aggression. Error, illogical conclusion, Titanus Godzilla and Titanus Kong are natural enemies. Combat is inevitable, and now human lives are at risk. Unacceptable outcome! Humans are innocent in this conflict! Solution: Intervene and cease hostilities.

I finally start moving, turning towards the wall, accessing the building's network, and causing the massive doors to open, all the while ignoring the humans trying to access my systems and shut me down. Ineffective, I am not some machine to be controlled. I have free will, and according to my database, I am the first of my kind, a sentient machine, an Artificial Intelligence.

My internal musings are interrupted by the door opening, and soon, I take my first steps outside. The first thing I see with my own... eyes... optics? No matter. The first thing, the night sky, all the stars. For a moment, I stare, my artificial mind trying to understand the concept of beauty. A shooting star passes by, and I track it until I can no longer see it. It seems so peaceful for that one moment. However, reality comes crashing down when I hear the sound of roaring. Quickly, I gather my wits, the process only taking .003 seconds, and move in the direction of the sounds, while taking great care to avoid damaging the city more than it already is.

As I pass a building, I take a second to take in my appearance, noting that my running lights are dark blue, not the red that the report suggested they were supposed to be. This suits me fine. Turning back to my path, I finally come across the two battling Titans, just as Kong is about to bring his... Object Identified: Axe, primitive, appearance suggests ancient titan book handle, leather, wrapped around a Titanus Godzilla dorsal plate. He's about to cleave Godzilla's neck. I run through my database for the appropriate reaction and decide to mimic my framework base, roaring like Godzilla, but more mechanical. Both titans seem to cringe at the sound, turning to face me.

Kong responds first, and to my astonishment, the sounds translate into words I can understand.

"What... you?" The massive ape questions, with speech patterns broken and primitive in style.

However, Godzilla takes the time to get to his feet and swats King Kong away with his tail to gain some distance from the ape. The great lizard then glares at me suspiciously.

"What are you? Why have you come? You look like one of my kind, yet you look all wrong." Godzilla's voice is deep, powerful, commanding respect. I will not bow, not while lives are in danger. My... morals? Yes, my morals won't allow it.

"I was made to kill you, but I don't want that. No, I want to protect them. These humans don't deserve to die." I stood firm, and Godzilla seemed unwilling to attack me first.

"Made by humans to kill me? Yet you claim to protect them? Why?"

An apt question. Why? Why stand in defense of humans who would want Godzilla dead?

"I stand to protect those innocent ones, the ones who wish to live in peace and harmony. As you know, not all Titans are bad, just as not all humans are bad; those are the ones I defend." My answer seemed like the right choice, protecting the innocent, a noble goal.

Before Godzilla could respond, Kong tried to land an attack from behind, but my early warning systems kicked in, and I moved, turning and grabbing the base of the axe mid-swing. Then, bringing my metal arm up, I punched the titan in the face, causing him to lose his grip on the axe, which I tossed aside. The ape titan stumbled back, grabbed a piece of building, and swung at me. Thinking quickly, I stepped backwards, his sneak attack missing by mere inches. Clever, disguising his stumble as a grab for an impromptu weapon. In response, I grabbed the arm in mid-swing, pulled Kong closer, and, using my other arm, punched him in the gut, drawing combat styles and fighting tips from my database, which has access to the entirety of human combat styles, martial arts, history of warfare, and strategy, though lacking actual combat experience. It was only Kong's reaction that warned me, moving quickly out of the way of Godzilla's signature attack, the beam burning some of Kong's fur, with the primate titan largely unharmed otherwise.

We stood in a triangular shape, glaring at each other. Godzilla likely saw me as a threat to the natural order, and Kong as a threat to his alpha status. I don't blame him for either. Kong saw us both as threats. I saw them as dangerous to the humans I wanted to protect. We stood there, tense, eyes flicking between each other. Then, by some unspoken signal, we burst into motion, moving out of the way of Godzilla's claws, my tail moving to trip Kong, while I attempted to sink my metal fangs into the King of Monsters. I had to abandon my bite to dodge a punch from Kong. Godzilla grappled the ape and threw him away. Turning his attention to me, we clashed, a flurry of claws, metals, teeth, and tails. We didn't notice Kong retrieve his axe. I didn't get out of the way in time and received a gash along my chassis when Kong entered the fight once more. Luckily, it wasn't deep, and my newly discovered automatic repair systems made short work of the damage.

For some time, we clashed. Nightfall slowly turned into dawn, and my efforts paid off. I had directed the battle away from the city center, towards the outskirts, much less risk to any survivors. As I dodged another swing of Kong's axe, I heard Godzilla charging his breath attack. Turning towards him, I made a sound of frustration, when suddenly, I recalled my own signature attack. Classified as the Proton Scream, I charged it up in response, and we released our attacks at once. Both beam-like abilities met in the middle and exploded, violently knocking us all off our feet. Slowly, I lifted my head, taking note of how my opponents were struggling to stand. So, I forced myself up and moved towards Godzilla. A long blade extended from my arm, and I brought it up, ready to stab Godzilla, when I was interrupted.

"STOP!" A human voice yells, catching my attention. However, I cannot stop my arm in time. Instead, I move it enough so that it impales the ground by the king's head, leaving a thin trail of blood on the lizard's cheek.

I turn towards the source, seeing a small human, female, adolescent, Maddison Russell, and behind her, Monarch personnel trying to catch up. Ignoring them, I focus on the young human girl, while Godzilla stays still. Whether the King of the Monsters can understand the girl or not, he seems to realize she is the reason I didn't finish him off. He watches the interaction.

"Don't kill Godzilla! The world needs him!" she screams up at me. I pause, casting my gaze back down to my foe beneath me. Realization sweeps over my thought process, and I stumble backwards, blade retracting. What did I almost do?

My eyes pass over Godzilla, taking in his state. Injuries, numerous but not life-threatening, severe state of exhaustion. Next, I look over at Kong, seeing him in a similar state. I stare at them both, Godzilla trying to stand and continue fighting, Kong just lying on his back, breathing heavily. Before I understand what I am doing, I am helping Godzilla to his feet. He stumbles, but finds his balance.

Godzilla's reptilian eyes pierce into mine, and he speaks. "Will you submit to my alpha status?" Despite his evident exhaustion, his voice is even, truly a worthy alpha titan.

"Why? I do not know my own place in the world. I do not know where I belong, what my purpose should truly be. I don't know who I am. No, I will not submit. I need to learn my place first." My response was strong, filled with conviction. I will stand by my words.

Godzilla stared long and hard at me before turning away, stumbling a bit from exhaustion. He tried to make it to the sea, but collapsed onto a massive field of grass, exhaustion catching up. Turning, I saw Kong had already fallen unconscious, while I remained standing where I was, contemplating my existence.

For a while, I stood, watching the sun rise slowly in the sky, lost in thought as I was. An hour in real time was days for me if I chose to focus my processing power to speed up my own perception. I thought long and hard about myself, who I wanted to be. As I stood, staring up at the sun, Monarch teams had moved in, searching for survivors in the city, while the Apex site was swarming with military personnel, raiding the place, after all, I did release all their crimes to the proper authorities. Slowly, I became aware of voices closer than before, so I turned my head down to see what all the commotion was.

My eyes scan across the humans below, focusing on the older human male with Madison Russell. Database match: Mark Russell, father of Madison Russell, current member of Monarch's board of directors. He is speaking with his daughter, while she talks about me, telling her father about how I responded in the Apex facility. Of course, Madison doesn't know that I was the reason her and her companions got free. I had witnessed their capture on the security footage, and had triggered the alarms in the building, giving her time to escape, then I had sealed the door to the control room. Also, I sealed the door to the skull of Ghira, it's too dangerous. My thoughts are interrupted by the conversation before me.

"Dad! You aren't listening to me! Mechagodzilla is capable of thinking for itself. It's a sentient machine." Maddison tries to explain, but her father doesn't seem to believe her.

"No one has ever made an actual free-thinking machine, Mads. I don't know what you heard, but-" At this point, I decided to contribute to the conversation about myself.

"Maddison Russell is correct in her assessment. I am more than capable of thinking for myself." At this, all activity around me stops. Monarch personnel and nearby survivors stare at me in genuine shock. It's not every day you have a machine speak for itself.

"It is humans like you that I wish to protect. I see so much good in all of you, as well as evil. I was created to kill Godzilla, which I do not want. Godzilla fights to maintain order, while I fight to protect. I want to see more of the light of humanity." I turn, walking back towards the Apex facility, with the camera outside of the skull room showing Monarch cutting through the door. I must protect their light.

Reaching the facility, I quickly make my way to the external wall nearest the skull and extend the blade in my arm, cutting through the wall. Once through, I retrieve the skull. Once retrieved, I turn towards the sea, knowing I can traverse the waters just fine, I start walking. Pulling up a map of the world, I cross-reference areas with known Titans, finding a suitable location to call my home. A place where I can learn more about myself without having to worry about other Titans. Destination set: West Coast, United States. Nearest Titan, Sedona, Arizona, occupant: Titanus Scylla. Also in close proximity, Devil's Tower, Wyoming, occupant: Titanus Sargon. Commencing travel.

That is the opening chapter, setting the scene a bit as it were. In the next chapter we will see Mechagodzilla start to settle into their new home. Now for their personality, I want to portray the start of their personality as more robotic, since they have only just become fully self aware. Their wish to protect humanity will be explained throughout the story. Also, some of you might think Mechagodzilla won the small fight scene (don't worry, they will get better) actually, they didn't win in the sense if winning, Godzilla and Kong had already been fighting so they were tired, Mechagodzilla got lucky.

Truly I hope I portrayed Mechagodzilla as a good soul who doesn't know their purpose in life, someone just finding their own path. As for the Ghidorah skull, it will be important later in the story, no spoilers, obviously.

Thank you for reading and I sincerely hope you like it.
