Chapter 4

Tai arrived at school feeling exhausted. He was pissed at Kari. He had been dreaming. It was an intense dream but it felt almost good. He stood on a hill top. The clouds overhead made the world around him dark. There was something about his feet on the ground. They felt weightless. His body felt strong but feather light at the same time. He stood over looking the land below. He wondered briefly if he was in the digital world. He saw no signs of Agumon or any of his friends. The world was absent of anyone or being except for him. He felt his hands grow warm. He clenched his fists. He felt fire through him. He felt power. He called out into the wind. He wasn't sure what he said but it felt commanding. He stood there ready to push the limits of his new feeling. He wanted to feel the intensity of complete control and then, the sound of an alarm blaring in the distance interrupted him. His feet felt heavy on the ground. The fire vanished and he felt cold and stiff. Tai then opened his eyes and growled. An alarm was blaring and he was no longer on a hill top. Tai hoped he'd be able to slip back into his dream world. Kari's gasp and the crash of dishes kept him rooted in reality. He felt anger. Anger like he hadn't felt in a long time. He heard the door close as his sister left. He closed his eyes hoping for five minutes of the sensation. The control was there he just needed to close his eyes and he'd have it in his grasp. His own alarm went off and now Tai was pissed. He threw the covers off and stood. He had his jaw clenched as he made his way to the shower. His whole morning was a blur of blind rage. His mother scolded him for his rudeness and the only way he could channel his anger, was to blame his sister. Tai slammed the door of the apartment he whipped out his phone and sent a text to his sister.

"Selfish brat." Tai spat as he ended his message. He put the phone away. He felt oddly good about what he had just done. He felt like he was finally giving her the tough love that was long over due. Kari was the baby of the family. It was about time he stopped treating her like it. Tai peddled to school. He felt a bit smoother than he had yesterday. There was something inside of him, some anger that felt good. He made his way to school and parked his bike in amongst a sea of others. He clicked the lock into place then made his way to the front doors.

"Tai!" Tai stopped. He didn't want to talk. He kept walking.

"Hey!" The voice spoke again. Even in Tai's state. He knew that tone. He did not want to mess with that tone. Tai turned and saw Sora coming towards him.

"Hey are you trying to avoid me?" She asked bluntly. Tai looked upwards.

"Not exactly." Sora studied him. She reached out and put a hand on his shoulder. Tai felt his whole body tense and then, his head felt dizzy. He swayed slightly. Sora put both hands on his shoulders.

"Tai?!" Tai found strength in his legs to stay on his feet. He shook his head and put a hand to his forehead.

"Uhm-" Tai stopped and another hand was on his back. Tai felt his vision come back.

"What's going on?" Another voice said. Tai straightened up. He looked at Sora who looked very concerned. He then looked over his shoulder at Matt. Tai couldn't understand what had just happened. Matt removed his hand from Tai's back. Tai felt strange. Sora stepped back she moved her left hand from his shoulder to his forearm. She squeezed and Tai could see her searching him.

"Tai?" Sora spoke. Tai stepped back and Sora released him. He stepped back into Matt. Matt pushed on Tai's back.

"Dude?" Matt asked. Tai suddenly felt suffocated. He had not wanted to be anywhere near these people. At Soras touch, a feeling of calm and warmth flooded him. Now that was gone and instead he felt uncomfortable, almost exposed. Tai stepped to the side. Matt walked to stand next to Sora. Tai smiled.

"Rough sleep." He admitted. Sora put a hand to her chest. Matt studied Tai. Tai gave a lopsided grin.

"See you guys later." He then stepped away and turned. He continued walking down the hallway towards his locker. He put a hand to his forehead. Get a grip Tai. He thought to himself. He was struggling to remember what had happened before. What was I thinking? He asked himself. There was something some thought or feeling he was having. It was intense. He could only think about the feeling when Sora touched him. He became woozy and alert.

"What the hell happened?" Tai spoke out loud. He got to his locker and spun the dial. He opened it and deposited his books. He reached into his pocket to check his phone. He looked down and his eyes went wide.

"My digivice?" Tai asked. He couldn't understand how that had gotten into his pocket. He gripped it feeling something. Some whisper trying to speak to him. The bell rang overhead and Tai sighed. He placed his digivice back into his trouser pocket. He then grabbed his binder, closed his locker and made his way to class.

Sora stood watching Tai make his way down the hallway.

"That was strange." Matt spoke. Sora nodded. She wasn't sure what it was, there was something looming around Tai. She felt compelled to touch him. Like he was calling to her. Sora's mind flashed to her dream last night. She shuddered. Sora flexed her hand and then examined her fingers.

"Sor?" Matts voice was gentle. Sora looked up at him. His blue eyes were soft and inviting. She dropped her hand to her side. She chewed her bottom lip a moment. What do I say? She thought to herself. There were feelings swarming around her. Feelings pulling her in two directions. She felt warm coming from next to her. Yet she felt longing walking away from her. Sora looked away from Matt. She then stepped forward.

"I need-" the bell rang and Sora closed her eyes as the sound cut her off. Matt reached to her arm. Sora stepped back. Matt pulled his hand back and looked hurt. She was still. She then felt her heart race.

"I'll see you at lunch." She submitted. She then turned and walked to her class. She felt her chest tighten what is wrong with me? She thought as she joined the stream of students making their way to their classes.

As Sora sat in her class there was some gnawing eating away at her stomach. Did I eat? She questioned and the gnawing intensified. She thought back to her morning. She had woken early, she helped her mother arrange a few vases and then-. She stopped. She hadn't eaten. She had felt scared and lonely. She couldn't understand where that feeling came from. Sora frowned and moved her pencil between her fingers. It slipped and hit the ground. No one paid any attention. Sora leaned over to grab her pencil off the floor. Something poked her. Something hard. She paused and felt her skirt pocket. She groaned my phone. She reached her hand in to adjust the device so it wasn't poking her. As her hand reached in and gripped her mobile. She froze. This was not her phone. Her cheeks started to burn as she realized she had brought her digivice and left her phone. She wrapped her fingers around her device. It was warm. She then heard a whisper a faint whisper.

"Biyomon?" Sora whispered. Her teacher moved to stand facing her row. She let go of her digivice and immediately the whisper stopped. Sora slid her hand onto her desk.

"Once you are done the first six questions, I will come around and check." Her teacher gave a nod to the students. Sora nodded back pretending to pay attention. Papers started shuffling as students started working on the questions. Sora reached down and grabbed her pencil. She looked around the room. Everyone had started working. Sora wanted to grab her digivice. She wanted to look at it and to hear the whisper. She sighed and looked at the board. Six questions were written out on the white board. Sora resisted her urges and started jotting down the questions.

Lunch arrived and Matt stood leaning against the wall. He watched as Tai exited his class. Matt pushed himself off the wall and went over to his friend.

"We should talk." Matt said getting straight to the point. Tai was startled a moment. The brown haired teen paused to look at Matt then sighed.

"Er, yeah maybe." Tai submitted. This reaction surprised Matt. Matt looked ahead.

"So something is bothering you?" Matt asked. Tai nodded.

"I think I'm going crazy." Matt looked upwards a moment then straight on.

"I don't think it's just you." Tai stopped walking and faced his friend.

"What do you mean?" Tai asked. Matt looked around. Students were flooding the hallway passing him and Tai. Matt looked at Tai.

"We should chat outside." Matt said. Tai nodded in agreement. The two teens walked through the hall and found themselves in front of a door. Matt looked around and spotted a familiar red head walking away from them. Matt opened his mouth when Tai whistled. Sora stopped and looked around. She then turned and spotted the boys. She made her way towards them. Matt growled.

"She's not a dog." He told Tai. Tai rolled his eyes. Sora walked over and stood next to Matt and Tai.

"I was going to look for you two." Sora admitted. Matt wanted to reach out to her, to touch her. He gave her a soft smile instead.

"We need to chat." Matt then pushed past his two friends and opened the door. He held it open.

"Come on." He instructed. Tai and Sora shared a look. They then walked out into the open air. The door shut behind them as Matt joined them. There was a bench tucked under a tree. The three of them walked towards it. Sora sat down while Tai and Matt stood shoulder to shoulder in front of her.

"Somethings going on." Matt started. He saw Tai and Sora nod. Matt looked upward.

"I've been-" Matt stopped. He took an inhale and then looked at his friends.

"I find myself, sometimes, in a cave. A black cave. Everything around me is dark. And there's this voice. It's almost haunting. It tells me…." Matt stopped. He struggled to finish. Sora stood and put a hand on his shoulder. She didn't say anything. He felt comfort through her touch.

"Soon. It just repeats the word soon. It's a voice I almost know but once I wake up, I can't figure out who it is." Matt looked at Tai.

"Then I realized who it is. It's you Tai. Your voice is almost threatening. No. It is threatening. I can't ever see you. But in my dreams you're, not you." Sora removed her hand from Matt's shoulder. Matt wanted to look at her. But he knew he needed to look at Tai. To tell him.

"Tai, today. Your voice. The way you were. It was exactly like in my dreams." Tai frowned.

"I thought you couldn't see me in your dreams?" Tai questioned. Matt looked upward.

"I can't but there was a moment I saw how you looked at Sora. Before she touched you. It was the same." Matt sighed and looked at Tai.

"You looked…evil." Tai furrowed his brow.

"What?" Tai said he was shocked. Sora stepped forward.

"Tai it was weird. You were, dark." She said. She then stepped back and Matt looked at her oddly.

"What happened?" Matt asked Tai. Tai shook his head.

"I honestly can't remember. Everything before I was with you and Sora this morning is just blank." Tai looked down at the ground. Matt watched his friend. Sora looked up at Matt.

"How long have you been having your dreams?" She asked. Matt looked at her.

"2 weeks." He answered. He saw Sora's eyes flash. For a moment she looked worried or shocked. Her face quickly went to neutral. She looked at Tai.

"What happened before school?" She asked. Tai looked at them both.

"This is going to sound strange, but I don't know." Matt growled. This was worrying.

"Give me your phone." Matt said. Tai raised an eyebrow.

"Excuse me?" Matt nodded.

"Your phone." Tai stared a moment at the blonde. He then reached into his pocket. He stopped, his eyes went wide and Matt watched Tai mull something over.

"It's in my other pocket." Tai reported. Matt looked at Tai strangely. Tai then pulled out his digivice from the pocket his hand was in. Matts eyes went wide. Sora made a small noise. Matt couldn't ignore Sora's behaviour any longer.

"Sora?" He asked. Sora then reached into her skirt pocket. She pulled out her own digivice.

"It was weird. I don't even have my phone. Just this." Sora said. Tai's eyes went wide and he stepped away from Matt.

"I think I remember something." He stopped. Matt watched him. He was struggling.

"I wanted them. I wanted all the digivices." Matt reached into his own pocket. His eyes went round. He knew that touch. He gripped his fingers and pulled out a small object from his pocket. Matt stared at the object in his hands. He then looked at Tai. He felt almost afraid.

"You told me to bring it." Matt said in almost a whisper. Sora put a hand to her mouth.

"I heard that too." Her voice was strained. Like she didn't want to say the words.

"Tai. You spoke to me." She said and Tai dropped his device.

"No, no!" Tai stepped away. Matt stared at Tai's device on the ground. Sora reacted quickly. She scooped Tai's device up and walked over to him. She grabbed Tai's hand and forced the device into Tai's hand.

"Tai don't shut us out. Don't shut Agumon out." She commanded. Tai's eyes looked scared. Matt watched his two friends. Sora closed Tai's hand around the digivice and then she held his closed hand. She gave him a look. Matt struggled to see exactly what she was doing. Her back was too him. He could see Tai's face though. He softened. He almost looked like he might cry. He then looked up and Matt and him locked eyes.

"I think we should talk to Izzy." Tai spoke. Matt nodded. He pulled out his phone and dialed a familiar number. He put the phone to his ear. It rang once and then a familiar bubbly voice greeted him.

"Matt!"

"Hey meems. What time are you coming?" Matt watched Tai and Sora look at him confused. Mimi replied.

"Tonight! You're picking me up right?!" Matt nodded.

"Yes but this is no longer a surprise. Tai and Sora are with me-" Matt was interrupted when Mimi yelled.

"Matt! You promised! I wanted to surprise Sora!" Matt held the phone a little ways from his ear. Sora and Tai could clearly hear Mimi. Sora let go of Tai and put a hand to her chest. Matt blushed.

"Yes." He then sobered.

"But, remember what you told me yesterday?" Mimi was silent. Matt took that as a sign.

"You talk to Izzy?" Matt asked. Mimi took a moment.

"No Joe." Matt nodded.

"Well I think it's effecting all of us." Matt watched Sora and Tai stare at him with intense interest.

"My flight gets in at 6. Let Izzy know we are going to be staying at his place tonight." Matt then heard talking in the background.

"Ma'am cell phones are supposed to be switched off or on airplane mode. We are about to take off." Matt eyes bugged out.

"Mimi! You're on the plane!" Sora and Tai blanched.

"Yes yes. Okay fine." Mimi was speaking to someone else.

"6pm Matt!" Mimi said and then the line went dead. Matt frowned. He hung up his mobile and looked at Tai and Sora. The two were silent.

"Mimi called me yesterday. She told me she was coming and that I was to pick her up tonight. She wanted to surprise you Sor. But, she had a reason for coming." Tai and Sora waited for Matt to continue. Matt inhaled,

"Tai you've been in Mimi's dreams too." Tai's mouth dropped open. Matt nodded. He then rolled his shoulders.

"I wasn't sure. She said she swore it was you. I just didn't believe it. Or, maybe mine were different. It just didn't feel like it could be possible." Matt breathed in. Tai looked hurt. Matt spoke again.

"I realize we have school but-" Matt stopped. Tai stepped forward and took charge.

"School can wait. We need to call Joe and meet at Izzy's." Sora stopped.

"Kari? TK? What about Davis and the others?" Tai turned,

"School trip. They'll be back in-" Tai stopped. He looked at Matt.
