The warm afternoon sun streamed through the Sheriff's Station windows as Jay Halstead settled into his routine tasks. He was just finishing up some reports when his phone buzzed on the desk. He glanced at the screen and saw a message from Veronica Lodge.
Veronica: Hailey just sent me a threatening text. I've HAD it with her lies. We need to regroup tonight at your apartment to plan our next move.
Jay frowned, his chest tightening. He quickly replied.
Jay: I'm in. Should I get Moose involved?
A reply came almost immediately.
Veronica: YES. Make it your next date. That'll show her. ;)
Jay couldn't help but smile at Veronica's mischievous tone. The idea of involving Moose in something this intense wasn't what he'd expected, but he knew Moose would have his back.
That night, Jay's apartment buzzed with activity as Veronica, Betty Cooper, Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, and Cheryl Blossom gathered around his living room. Everyone wore serious expressions, their frustration with Hailey palpable.
"Alright," Veronica began, her arms crossed as she paced. "Hailey's been playing her games for too long. We need to figure out how to stop her."
Before anyone could respond, there was a knock at the door. Jay stood and opened it to find Moose Mason standing there, smiling warmly.
"Hey," Moose said, leaning in to kiss Jay.
Jay smiled against his lips before pulling back. "Glad you're here."
Before Moose could reply, Veronica cleared her throat loudly. "Lovebirds, focus. We've got a mission."
The group chuckled as Moose joined them, taking a seat beside Jay.
Archie stood, pulling out a notepad. "Here's the plan. We need to outsmart Hailey, expose her lies, and make sure she doesn't mess with any of us again. If we play this right, we'll put her through hell."
As Archie laid out his strategic points, a loud knock interrupted him. Everyone froze, exchanging uneasy glances. A moment later, a piece of paper slid under the door. Jay picked it up and read aloud, his voice grim.
"'Betty, if you want your mom back, come and get her. Signed with Hailey's insignia.'" Jay lowered the note, his jaw tightening. "She's got Alice."
Betty shot to her feet, her face a mix of panic and fury. "She's crossed the line. My mom? No. This ends now."
Archie placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her. "We'll find her, Betty. We'll get Alice back."
Veronica spotted a small tape recorder on the table near the note and grabbed it. She pressed play, and Hailey's voice filled the room.
"Alice is safe for now, but if any of you try anything, she won't be for long. Try me." Alice's muffled cries could be heard faintly in the background.
The room erupted in anger. Betty looked ready to scream, and Cheryl muttered curses under her breath.
"I'm calling in reinforcements," Veronica declared, pulling out her phone. Within moments, she had contacted Tabitha Tate, Toni Topaz, and Kevin Keller, explaining the situation.
Tabitha, Toni, and Kevin arrived quickly, listening intently as the group replayed the recording. Their faces mirrored the shock and anger of the others.
"This is sick," Toni said. "What kind of person does this?"
"A manipulative one," Kevin replied. "We need to act fast."
Before they could make their next move, everyone's phones buzzed simultaneously. Another text from Hailey.
Hailey: Jughead is an abuser. Ask Betty about it. He hits girls, including her.
Everyone turned to Jughead, who looked appalled. Betty's face fell, her eyes darting away.
"Betty," Jughead began, stepping toward her. "That's not true. You know it's not."
Betty stood, shaking her head. "I don't know what to believe anymore."
Jughead's voice cracked. "She's lying, Betty. She's messing with your head."
"I just… I can't," Betty muttered, walking out of the apartment. Veronica quickly followed her, leaving the others stunned.
Outside, Veronica caught up with Betty. "Betty, wait. Don't let Hailey get in your head. Jughead didn't do this."
Betty turned, tears streaming down her face. "How do you know? What if he did? What if she's right?"
Veronica grabbed Betty's shoulders. "Because she's playing us all. She's trying to tear us apart. Jughead loves you, and you know that."
Betty hesitated, then nodded slowly. "You're right. I just… it's so hard."
They returned to the apartment, where Betty apologized to Jughead. They hugged tightly, the tension in the room easing slightly.
As the group planned their next move, another text from Hailey came through, this time targeting Moose.
Hailey: Moose is abusing Jay. Ask him about it.
Moose's face hardened as he read the text. "This is ridiculous. I'd never hurt you, Jay."
"I know," Jay said firmly, placing a hand on Moose's arm. "She's just trying to get under our skin. Don't let her."
The group collectively decided to ignore the lies, but the anger lingered.
Finally, Hailey sent one last text, this time targeting Cheryl.
Hailey: Remember your abusive past with Jason Blossom? You'll never escape it.
Cheryl's hands trembled as she typed back.
Cheryl: Cut the lies, Hailey. You don't scare me.
Hailey replied almost instantly.
Hailey: Try me.
Determined to end the nightmare, they decided to search for Alice. Another text from Hailey revealed her location: the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. The group headed out, prepared for anything.
The dark halls of the abandoned building were eerie, the silence broken only by their footsteps. After searching every room, they finally found Alice in the basement, gagged and tied. They freed her quickly, Alice whispering that Hailey had left minutes before they arrived.
Back at the Cooper House, Alice explained that Hailey was in Riverdale to destroy Jay's life and anyone close to him. The group vowed to stop her.
As the night ended, they returned to their homes. At Jay's apartment, Moose and Jay sat together, leaning on each other for comfort. Jay's phone buzzed again—a text from Hailey.
Hailey: I know all about your relationship with Moose. You won't last.
Moose grabbed Jay's phone and typed a reply.
Moose: Leave us the hell alone.
Hailey replied moments later with a chilling message: We'll see.
Jay and Moose turned off their phones and held each other close, vowing not to let Hailey's threats break them. For the first time in a long time, Jay felt like he had someone to fight for—and someone who would fight for him. Together, they were stronger than Hailey's lies.
