Jay Halstead slowly woke to the soft light filtering through the window, the warmth of Moose Mason beside him grounding him in the peaceful morning. Moose shifted, opening his eyes and catching Jay's sleepy smile.
"Good morning, partner," Moose teased, his voice still groggy.
Jay smirked, leaning back against the pillow. "Morning. You sleep okay, or did I hog the covers?"
Moose chuckled, pulling the blanket tighter around himself. "Hogged them completely, but I'll forgive you. I think last night was worth it."
Jay laughed, his smile widening. "Yeah, last night was... something. Fun, crazy, and a little surreal."
"You mean because we were playing bartender, catching Hailey in her lies, and having a full-on parent posse to help us?" Moose grinned. "Not your average Riverdale date."
Jay shook his head. "Definitely not. But hey, we did it. Together. We caught her, and now she's facing the consequences."
Moose reached out to brush a strand of hair from Jay's face. "You know, I still can't believe we pulled it off. And through it all, I had you by my side."
Jay's expression softened. "Same here. I've never had anyone like you before, Moose."
They shared a soft kiss, letting the moment linger before being interrupted by the buzz of Jay's phone on the nightstand. Jay groaned, reaching for it and reading the screen.
Veronica: Wakey wakey, lovebirds. It's court time for Hailey. Let's roll. ️
Jay handed the phone to Moose, who read the message and laughed. "Leave it to Veronica to keep us on schedule."
"Guess we'd better get up," Jay said, sitting up and stretching. "Can't keep the queen waiting."
Moose grabbed his arm, pulling him back down for another kiss. "We've got time for one more."
After finally rolling out of bed, Jay and Moose moved into the kitchen, preparing a quick breakfast of cereal and scrambled eggs. Moose leaned against the counter, watching Jay expertly crack eggs into a pan.
"You know," Moose started, his tone playful, "for someone who used to be a detective, you've got a future as a chef."
Jay laughed, glancing over his shoulder. "Bartender, chef—what's next? Full-time relationship guru?"
Moose grinned. "Oh, we're definitely qualified for that after last night."
Jay placed the pan on the stove, turning to face Moose. "Speaking of relationships... we should probably talk about ours. You know, keep it Rated R."
Moose raised an eyebrow, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips. "Rated R, huh? I like the sound of that."
Jay shook his head, chuckling. "I mean, making sure we're clear on what we want. This is new for me, but I know I want this. You."
Moose stepped closer, taking Jay's hands in his. "I want this too, Jay. Whatever this is, wherever it goes—I'm in."
Their moment was interrupted by the timer on the stove. Jay quickly turned back to the eggs, plating their breakfast while Moose set the table.
As they ate, their conversation turned lighthearted again, filled with jokes about last night's antics and their friends' over-the-top moments. Moose leaned back in his chair, smirking as Jay recounted Frank punching Hailey.
"And Hermione was so mad!" Jay said, laughing. "She wanted to do it herself."
Moose nearly choked on his coffee, laughing along with him. "I swear, your life before Riverdale can't compare to the drama here."
Jay nodded. "It's definitely a new level of chaos, but it's also the best thing that's happened to me. Because I met you."
Moose's expression softened, and he reached across the table to squeeze Jay's hand. "Same, Jay. Same."
As breakfast wrapped up, they both headed to get dressed for the day, the anticipation of court looming over them. Despite the seriousness of what lay ahead, they couldn't help but exchange flirty comments as they brushed their teeth, styled their hair, and picked out their outfits.
"You clean up nice," Moose said, adjusting Jay's tie.
"Right back at you," Jay replied, fixing Moose's collar. "Ready to face the day?"
Moose smiled. "Ready to face it with you."
With one last shared look, they grabbed their jackets and headed out the door, ready to join their friends and see Hailey finally face justice.
