After watching Odette's transformation and her encounter with the man who turned out to be her captor, the gang was even more confused than ever and wanted to know what was going on.
Of course, seeing that she couldn't hide it, Odette volunteered to tell all.
Right now she was sitting on some dilapidated stone stairs while the gang sat in front of her.
"So why is all that happening to you?" asked Littlefoot.
"And what's this Rothbart fellow got to do with it?" asked Chomper.
"Like I said, I'll tell you all about it." said Odette.
In a luxurious hallway, there was an older man pacing back and forth in front of a balcony entrance.
"Once upon a time, there was a king named William who ruled a great and prosperous kingdom and yet he was sad."
"Why would he be sad? If he ruled a great kingdom, he must have been very happy. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
"He was sad because he was beginning to grow old without a child to inherit the throne." said Odette.
It was then that a maid approached the king with something in her arms and when she showed it to him, the king smiled with pure joy to see that it was a baby.
"But, fortunately, a daughter was born to him, a princess whom they named… Odette."
William, with his daughter in his arms, stepped out onto the balcony and as soon as he showed him to the audience, they erupted in cheers as they threw their hats in the air.
"Wow. She has the same name as you." said Ruby, causing the human to chuckle.
"That's because she was me." said Odette.
"So, you princess?" asked Petrie.
"Yes, Princess Odette." said Odette.
"You can tell your father loved you very much." said Littlefoot.
"I know." said Odette with a nostalgic smile before continuing.
In a large room, there were many people gathered and in one part of the room there was a cradle in which little Odette was lying.
Walking on a long red carpet, there was a child who was carrying something on a cushion in his hands and was making his way to the cradle.
"From everywhere kings and queens came to offer me gifts. Among them was Queen Uberta and her son, Prince Derek, who gave me a golden heart-shaped pendant with a drawing of a swan."
Derek showed little Odette the pendant and the little girl stretched out her arms to try to reach the object, much to the amusement of the boy who handed it to her.
"That's when it happened that our parents had the same idea about us getting married."
"Wait, you were going to marry someone else soon after you were born? Some parents." said Cera.
"They weren't. They didn't want to force us. They wanted us to be the ones to decide to get married." said Odette.
"And how were they going to do that?" asked Ducky.
"To do that, they decided that we would spend every summer together so that we would fall in love and unite our two kingdoms." said Odette.
"That already sounds better to me." said Cera.
"But back then, everyone was unaware of the plan of the kingdom's evil enchanter, Rothbart." said Odette.
Back in the hall, secluded from the rest of the people, stood Rothbart, who stared with folded arms and anger at the princess.
"My birth was of little concern to him, for he planned to take over my father's kingdom by Forbidden Arts."
In a hidden room, Rothbart, with his assistant at his side, stood before three cauldrons emitting blue, red and green colored smoke.
In the blue-colored smoke, an image of William was shown with little Odette in his arms and then, Rothbart removed the image, turning the blue smoke into a red smoke that took the shape of a winged beast.
"However, before he could carry out his malevolent plan, my father stopped him and Rothbart's powers were plunged into darkness."
Suddenly, the guards disrupted the place and smashed everything before surrounding Rothbart and his assistant.
"Even though many people wanted his execution, my father punished him with banishment."
In one part of the forest, William was on a horse, with guards around him aiming arrows at the enchanter while two others were removing his handcuffs.
When the cuffs were removed, Rothbart shoved the two guards away before turning to the king.
"I'm not finished with you yet, William. Someday I'll get my power back. And when I do, everything you own, everything you love will be mine." said Rothbart.
Despite the clear threat, William pointed his finger the way forward as a signal for him to leave at once, which he did along with his assistant.
"You know? That remind me of my uncle, Pterano." said Petrie remembering his uncle who was banished.
"Yeah, but it's clear he's up to no good inside. I don't know about you, but after hearing that threat, I think your father made a mistake." said Cera.
"No offense, but she's right. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky as Spike nodded.
"I know. Many thought my father was too kind to let him go, but as time passed, that threat was completely forgotten." said Odette.
"What happened after that?" asked Littlefoot.
"Well, when I got old enough, my father and Uberta set their plan in motion to make Derek and I fall in love." said Odette.
"And how did it go?" asked Chomper.
"Well, not very well at first." said Odette.
"What do you mean?" asked Ruby confused.
After many years, the day had finally arrived, the day that Odette and Derek would begin to spend their first summer and that after that and more, love would come to them.
At the top of a tower, stood the Chamberlain of Uberta's kingdom.
"Hehehe, oh, here they come, hee!" said Chamberlain laughing as he saw a horse on which William and Odette were riding while being followed by a retinue.
Chamberlain tried to blow through a trumpet to announce their arrival, but, for some reason, it didn't sound, as if it was stuck.
It was then that the air he blew came back to him and inflated him like a balloon.
With his lips glued to the trumpet, he made several merry-go-round-like turns before giving a final blow that managed to expel whatever was jamming the trumpet, which was a nest with the bird and the eggs with it.
That sent the nest and its passengers flying through the air like bullets.
As William and Odette's horse entered the palace grounds, Uberta and Derek were waiting for them at the entrance.
"Dear Uberta, as lovely as ever." said William courteously.
Just as Uberta was about to wave, the nest fell right on her hair.
Chamberlain shivered in fear before hiding, for he was to blame for it.
Despite the situation, Uberta was able to remain calm.
"Oh, a nest." said Uberta with a sly chuckle as the bird carried away the nest with the eggs.
Then, William turned his gaze to the prince.
"And who might this strapping young man be? Young Prince Derek, no doubt." said William, sharing a wink with the queen.
But while they were happy with that encounter, the children didn't seem to share their excitement.
"Welcome to our fair kingdom, dear William. And to you, young princess." said Uberta as William, who had gotten off his horse, grabbed Odette to help her down.
Knowing what the next step was, William gently pushed Odette forward.
"Go on, Derek. Dear, go on…" said Uberta trying to coax her son forward as well.
"Mother!" said Derek whining, as he didn't want to.
"Derek!" said Uberta finally convincing him.
Finally, Odette and Derek stood facing each other, but while Odette looked polite, Derek was very upset.
"Hello, Princess Odette. I'm very pleased to meet you." said Derek with annoyance.
"Pleased to meet you, Prince Derek." said Odette bowing politely as Derek turned and walked away, but when he reached his mother…
"Ah-ah-ah-ah!" said Uberta pointing to the princess as a signal to finish the greeting.
With great annoyance, Derek stood in front of the princess again and took her hand.
A grimace appeared on his face, for what he had to do was disgusting to him.
Odette simply looked at him angrily, for she didn't like his attitude.
With his eyes closed, Derek brought his lips close to Odette's hand and kissed it, but in the next instant…
"Yuck!" expressed Derek wiping his tongue with his arm.
Derek
I can't believe I'm stuck with her all summer.
I'll bet she doesn't wrestle, hunt, or box.
Odette
He looks conceited.
Derek
What a total bummer.
Odette and Derek
If I get lucky I'll get chicken pox.
Although neither of them wanted to continue, their parents insisted that they do so.
Derek
So happy you could come.
Odette
So happy to be here.
Odette and Derek
How I'd like to run.
Odette
This is not my idea…
Derek
This isn't my idea…
Odette and Derek
of fun.
Later, Odette and Derek were playing in a room with wooden swords while their parents were talking about their plan, although they didn't realize that the children went from swords to hitting or strangling each other.
Uberta
The children seem to get along quite nicely.
William
We'll join our lands if this arrangement clicks.
Uberta
My dear King William, that's my point precisely.
Soon after, they were in the garden while the children were still playing with wooden swords again.
William
It's such good parenting.
Uberta
And politics.
So happy we agree.
William
I think we've got a deal.
Uberta
Derek's quite a catch.
William
This is my idea…
Uberta
This is my idea…
William and Uberta
of a match.
"Hahaha. And such fun!" said Uberta grabbing Odette while William grabbed Derek to keep them from fighting each other anymore.
Time passed quickly, as did the seasons.
Before one could imagine, another summer came, which meant that Odette and Derek, who had grown up a bit, had to get back together, which they didn't like.
In William's kingdom, things were getting ready for the trip, but there was one person who wasn't quite ready.
William
Good heavens, child, don't dawdle.
We can't keep Derek waiting.
Odette
I haven't packed or washed my hair.
And father, I get seasick.
Meanwhile, in Uberta's kingdom, the queen entered Derek's room to inform him of William and Odette's arrival, only to find him practicing archery with a poorly drawn picture of Odette as the target.
Uberta
She soon will be arriving.
Is that respect you're showing?
Derek
If you make me kiss her hand again I swear I'm gonna be sick.
At that point, the four were reunited in the harbor, with the parents talking to each other while Odette remained on the ship and Derek was with his best friend, Bromley.
William
One day Prince Derek will be her intended.
Uberta
Splendid.
It was then that Bromley picked up a tomato and with a slingshot, fired it at the princess and although he missed the shot, he managed to drench her face, which amused them while Odette was clearly upset and angry.
Later, the three of them were sliding down the railing of the stairs, with Odette far behind them.
Derek
We've tried all summer but we just can't lose her.
Odette
Hey fellas, wait up!
Bromley
Quick, put on some speed.
While Bromley and Derek climbed down the railing without any problems, Odette had trouble, so they ended up leaving her alone.
After that, Odette came to a tree where there was a tree house where Derek and Bromley were.
She wanted to climb up, but they pulled up the ladder to prevent her from climbing.
Derek
When picking teams
Bromley
or friends.
Derek
I'd never choose her.
Bromley
You'd think she'd take a hint and learn to read.
Bromley pulled out a piece of paper that said 'NO GIRLS' to emphasize that they didn't want her to come in, which only annoyed her.
Odette
This really isn't fair.
Derek and Bromley
We really couldn't care.
Odette
Boys, it's all or none.
Out of frustration, Odette kicked a large pole that served as a support for the house, causing it to collapse, resulting in all three of them being injured, with arms or legs in casts.
Odette
This is not my idea…
Derek and Bromley
This isn't my idea…
Odette, Derek and Bromley
of fun.
In the end, Odette ended up returning to her kingdom while Derek and Bromley stayed with Uberta who lingered for a while saying goodbye to William and his daughter until they were far enough away to scowl at the two boys, ready to give them a scolding.
Villagers
Long before they met Derek and Odette
were destined to be wedded.
Servants of Derek's castle
However anyone could see.
The only point on which they didn't disagree.
Servants of Odette's castle
Was that the very thought of summertime
was dreaded.
After some time had passed, Odette and Derek had become young adults and as always, hated the idea of spending the summer with each other.
In fact, when the time came, Odette was refusing to get out of the carriage with her father pulling her arm to force her while Uberta was trying to get her son down from the tree he was resting on.
Later, Odette could be seen with a crown and scepter as she was playing queen and soon after, Derek arrived with a stuffed lion's head, letting out a roar in the process, much to the princess's surprise.
Derek
She tries to talk me into playing dress-up.
She's always flirting with the castle guards.
Bromley
I think you really sorta like her, fess-up.
Derek
I'd like her better if she'd lose at cards.
Four sevens and a ten.
Odette
I think I've won again.
Derek and Bromley
Every time she's won.
Odette
This is my idea…
Derek and Bromley
This isn't my idea…
Odette, Derek and Bromley
of fun.
At the time, the two were on a cart, waving to the audience who greeted them with applause and cheers, although, of course, they were cracking jokes at each other when they weren't looking and when they turned to each other, they were acting innocent.
Villagers
We need a royal wedding.
I'd love to be invited.
At least we'd get a holiday to rest our ploughs and axes.
Then came the day when William and Odette would have to return, so now they were heading to the ship that would take them back to their kingdom, with many people saying goodbye to them, including Uberta while Derek was in the carriage looking like he wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.
Someday these two will marry.
Suddenly, a tomato hit close to him, soaking his face and the culprit was none other than Odette, who threw the slingshot into the water as she climbed into the ship.
Two lands will be united
and with some luck their marriage may result in lower taxes.
On a winter night, William was writing a letter about the concerns of the bonding and falling in love plan.
William
What if Odette doesn't go for the merger?
Uberta read the letter and was quick to write her reply.
Uberta
Urge her!
Later, each parent would attempt to enter their respective child's room, only to be blocked by him/her until they gave up.
Odette and Derek
For as long as I remember.
We've been told we'd someday wed.
Every June until September.
At that time, Uberta was seen dragging/pushing her son to another location.
Derek
All their pushing and annoying hints.
Meanwhile, Odette refused to get out of the carriage until finally, her father pulled her out and then he and Lord Rogers, the conductor of Derek's kingdom, grabbed her and lifted her up and then took her to another place.
Odette
I've got bruises with their fingerprints.
In the end, they put them both in the same room.
Derek
I can do much better, I am sure.
Odette
He's so immature.
It was then that the two saw each other and in the next second, something hit them on the inside, something that completely bewitched them.
Odette
I see him smiling and my knees start buckling.
I see inside him and my doubts are gone.
Derek
She started out as such an ugly duckling
and somehow suddenly became a swan.
Odette
So happy to be here.
Derek
'Til now I never knew.
Odette and Derek
It is you I've been dreaming of.
Derek
This is my idea…
Odette
This is my idea…
Then, William and Uberta, who had been watching the whole thing, were happy to see that their plan was about to be completed.
William and Uberta
What a good idea, such a charming and romantic notion
The next moment, several servants entered and in a short time, a room that was empty, became a room ready for a great celebration.
Chorus
This is my idea…
(This is my idea…)
Such a good idea…
(Such a good idea…)
What a good idea, such a powerful and magic potion
This is exactly my idea…
of love
But while the room was crowded, Odette and Derek were more focused on each other as they danced.
For them, it was as if there was nothing and no one besides themselves, their eyes fixed on each other as they stirred feelings in them that they thought they would never have for each other.
Odette
This is my idea…
Derek
This is my idea…
Odette and Derek
This is my idea of…
Chorus
Love.
And so, the two ended the dance with a kiss on the lips, but it wasn't just any kiss, it was a kiss given between two people who truly loved each other.
A kiss of true love.
"Arrange the marriage!" announced Derek to the great joy of everyone, especially the parents.
The gang couldn't help but cheer when they heard the end of that story.
"Yep, yep, yep. You finally fell in love. It's so romantic." said Ducky.
"I don't understand much about love, but I'm glad for that." said Cera.
"Surely you were very happy at that moment, weren't you?" asked Littlefoot.
"Well, yes. At first." said Odette.
"At first?" asked Petrie.
"Is it that you didn't want to marry Derek?" asked Chomper.
"Oh, no. I did want to, but what happened after that wasn't what I imagined." said Odette.
As I said before, the whole room was filled with celebration at the prince's announcement, but there was someone who wasn't so clear.
"Wait!" said Odette bringing all the celebration to an immediate halt.
"What? You're all I ever wanted. You're beautiful!" said Derek.
"Thank you. But what else?" asked Odette.
"What else?" asked Derek confused.
"Is beauty all that matters to you?" asked Odette.
William gave her a shake of his head in a sign to stop, but Odette ignored him.
"Derek…" began Uberta catching her son's attention. "What else?" asked Uberta hoping he would give the right answer.
Derek stammered a bit, trying to come up with an answer, but then…
"What else is there?" asked Derek giving the worst answer ever.
Needless to say, that surprised the gang.
"Really? Is that what he told you?" asked Cera.
"I don't know why, but that really offends me." said Ducky crossing her arms.
"Yeah, what does it matter if someone is beautiful or not?" asked Chomper.
"After all, beauty is on the inside. Mmm. Funny. I feel like we've heard that somewhere. In song form or something." said Ruby.
"What happened after that?" asked Littlefoot.
"Well, as you can imagine, our parents were disappointed about what happened and in the end, the wedding thing was called off and I had to go back to my kingdom with my dad." said Odette.
"So, you don't love Derek?" asked Littlefoot.
"Of course I love him, but I needed to know he loved me just for myself, not for my beauty." said Odette.
"Me understand that very well. If me find mate, me want her to want Petrie for me being Petrie." said Petrie.
"And I love Spike as my brother and he doesn't have to be like me for me to love him." said Ducky hugging her little brother, who licked her back in the face.
"And then, things got worse." said Odette lowering her head.
"What do you mean?" asked Littlefoot.
"As my father and I were returning in our carriage with our escort, someone showed up on the road." said Odette.
"Who?" asked Ruby.
"Rothbart." began Odette, to the surprise of the gang. "Turns out he had regained his powers and used them to turn himself into a huge animal. The guards tried to stop him, but they couldn't and in the end, Rothbart killed them… and my father." said Odette trying to hold back tears.
The gang let out a gasp of horror at hearing that.
"I didn't even get to say goodbye to him when Rothbart captured me and brought me here." said Odette.
The gang felt enormous sorrow for their friend who had lost her father.
"I know how you feel. I lost my mother to someone too. She died right in front of me." said Littlefoot sadly as he remembered the day his mother died fighting off a sharptooth to protect him.
Odette was shocked to hear that and all she could do was pet the longneck's head and give him a small smile which he returned.
"So why did you become a swan?" asked Chomper.
"After Rothbart brought me here, he put a curse on me. Every day, when the moon leaves the lake, I turn into a swan, no matter where I am, and if I want to be human again, I have to be at the lake when the moon rises." said Odette.
"But why would he do that? I mean, wasn't he trying to take over your father's kingdom? If you say he has power, why doesn't he take it if he has power?" asked Ruby.
"That's the same thing I asked him. Apparently, he doesn't want to take the kingdom by force, he wants to take the kingdom in the traditional way by marrying the only heir to the throne." said Odette.
"That means you." said Petrie.
"That's right. Every night, as soon as I'm human again, he comes back to try to convince me to marry him." said Odette.
"That's the last straw. Not only does he kill your father, kidnap you and curse you, now he's trying to force you to marry him? That's it. I'm going to go after him and beat him until he changes his mind." said Cera walking away a bit.
"Cera, no. Stop." began Littlefoot stepping in front of her to stop her. "If what Odette says about him is true, then you don't stand a chance against him."
"He's right. He could turn you to dust as soon as he sees you." said Speed.
"Or worse, turn you into a frog like me." said Jean-Bob.
"Ugh. Okay, but there has to be a way to get Odette out of this situation." said Cera.
"Actually, there are two ways to get me out of the curse." said Odette.
"Oh yeah? Which ones?" asked Chomper.
"The first would be to accept Rothbart's offer." said Odette.
"Totally ruled out. What's the other way?" asked Cera.
"The second would be to kiss the person I love and then, he must make a promise of eternal love and prove it to the world." said Odette.
"Oh, then it's simple. You love Derek, don't you? We just have to go find him and get him to help you break the curse. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky.
"He may have had the wrong answer at first, but I'm sure he'll have the right answer now unlike at first when he had the wrong answer." said Ruby.
"I know. That's what I thought at first, but I don't know where this place is and if I get too far from the lake, by the time the sun comes up, I'll turn into a swan with no way to be human again." said Odette.
"In other words, you stuck here." said Petrie.
"Basically, yes." said Odette slumping her shoulders in defeat.
"Bah. You're spinning it too much. Besides, there's a third option. I kiss her, break her curse and become a prince." said Jean-Bob.
"Yeah, right. That'll happen when Spike starts talking more than eating." said Cera.
Spike replied to that with a frown.
"Don't worry, Odette. We'll help you break the curse." said Littlefoot.
"You don't have to. You should leave and go back to your home." said Odette.
"And leave you here alone with that evil guy? I'm sorry, but it won't happen." said Chomper.
"We are friends now, Odette, and friends should stick together. Yep, yep, yep." said Ducky as Spike nodded.
"Especially when they're in bad situations like yours, which is a really bad situation." said Ruby.
"And if that Rothbart dares to do anything to you, I'll make sure he regrets it." said Cera.
"As your flight teacher, I must stay here." said Petrie bravely.
"We're not going to leave you, Odette. We're going to stay with you until the end." said Littlefoot with a determined smile.
Odette was touched that they were willing to give up going home for her, almost to the point where she was going to cry, but held back.
"Thanks, kids, you're the best." said Odette with a smile, happy to have new friends who would be with her no matter what.
