Jay Halstead and Moose Mason, along with their kids Kit and Sweetie Halstead-Mason, pulled into the driveway of their suburban home, right across from the Cooper House. The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over Riverdale, filling the air with a sense of peace and new beginnings.
As they parked and walked across the street to the Cooper House, they knocked on the door. Alice Cooper opened it, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.
"Can I help you?" she asked with a smile.
Jay and Moose exchanged a glance before Moose spoke up. "We were hoping to see Betty."
Alice's expression turned playful. "Betty's grounded!" she declared, then chuckled. "Just kidding. Come on in!"
She invited them inside and led them to the living room. "Take a seat. I'll call her down." She hollered up the stairs, "Betty! You've got visitors!"
A moment later, Betty came bounding down the stairs, her face lighting up when she saw them. "Jay! Moose! It's so good to see you! Can I get you anything to eat or drink?"
After a couple of minutes, Betty and Alice returned, carrying a freshly baked apple pie and a pitcher of lemonade. They settled down, pouring drinks and serving slices of pie.
Betty leaned forward, her eyes bright with curiosity. "So, what's new with you two?"
Jay and Moose shared a look, then Moose replied, "We've reconciled. We're back together as husbands."
Alice raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really? That's wonderful news. How did it happen?"
Moose cleared his throat and looked at Betty. "Betty, there's something I need to tell you. I want to apologize for the mess I made in the past, especially when I used you and Veronica as excuses to hide when Jay and I were having marriage troubles."
Alice's expression turned stern. "What did you do that time, Moose?"
Jay and Moose chuckled, easing the tension. "I was going through a tough time," Moose admitted. "When Jay left for Chicago, I fell into a deep depression. I was drunk for a week, I didn't shower, sleep, eat, or work out. It was the worst period of my life. And when Jay left, my mental health got even worse. I was shaking and sobbing day and night because I missed him so much. I didn't talk to Kit and Sweetie, or to Archie, Jughead, Reggie, Cheryl, and the others. I only opened up to you and Veronica."
Betty's eyes filled with tears as she listened. "Moose, I had no idea. I knew you were struggling, but I didn't realize it was that bad."
Jay, hearing Moose's raw truth for the first time, felt a pang of guilt. "Moose, I'm so sorry I left you. I didn't know how much you were hurting."
Moose shook his head, tears streaming down his face. "It's okay, Jay. I understand why you left. We were both hurting, and we needed time to figure things out."
They hugged tightly, their emotions pouring out. Jay kissed Moose, and Moose kissed him back, both of them whispering apologies and words of love.
Betty and Alice watched, tears in their eyes as well. When Jay and Moose finally pulled apart, Betty and Alice enveloped them in a warm hug.
Alice smiled through her tears. "I'm so happy for you both. You deserve this happiness."
Betty nodded, her voice choked with emotion. "Thank you for sharing your truth, Moose. And Jay, thank you for coming back."
Jay smiled, his heart full. "Thank you for always being there for us."
They shared a few more moments of heartfelt conversation before Jay, Moose, Kit, and Sweetie bid farewell to Betty and Alice. As they walked back to their house, the sense of closure and new beginnings filled the air.
Jay and Moose knew that their journey wasn't over, but they were ready to face whatever came their way, together. And with the support of their friends and family in Riverdale, they felt more hopeful than ever about the future.
