A/N:
I wanted to say thank you to everyone who reviewed, followed, and likes the story so far! I also wanted to respond to the comments I've received.
01Katie: To be honest, we are all waiting for Visenya to snap, and kick somebody's ass, lol! As you've noticed she's not the biggest fan of Robb becoming King in the North, not because she's not a fan of Robb (she sees him like family), but because she already forsaw something in a dream, which was mentioned a few chapters ago, at the end.
ian12091995: Hope you enjoy this chapter. As far as if they know in King's Landing, if she's Visenya Targaryen...there are some who do, and some who don't, but that won't be revealed until later. But to say if Joffrey knows...the answer is not yet :)
Visenya let out a groan of disbelief as she walked with Catelyn through Renly's camp. Almost all of Renly's bannermen were watching a fight between Loras Tyrell, and another unknown knight.
"They act like heathens." Visenya murmured watching the sight play out, shaking her head in disbelief and disgust as Loras yielded to the unknown knight.
"Coward." She murmured before getting a stern look from Catelyn.
"Please behave, Visenya." She pleaded, as the knight took off their helmet revealing themselves to be Lady Brienne of Tarth. "Quite impressive."
Visenya nodded, before Ser Colen of Greenpools, gestured for Catelyn and her to follow him to speak to Renly, only after Brienne was placed as a knight of Renly's Kingsguard.
"Your Grace." Colen began as the three of them stepped forward to the platform where Renly and his wife, Margaery were sitting. "I have the honor to bring you Lady Catelyn Stark, sent as an envoy by her son Robb, Lord of Winterfell."
"Lord of Winterfell, and King in the North." Catelyn corrected.
"Lady Catelyn." Renly nodded. "I'm pleased to see you. May I present my wife, Margaery of House Tyrell."
"You are very welcome here, Lady Stark." Margaery nodded with a small smile. "I'm so sorry for your loss."
Visenya glanced to Catelyn with a somber look on her face, knowing the pain the two of them felt. While Visenya lost her father figure, Catelyn was still grieving with the loss of her husband.
Catelyn sighed. "You are most kind."
"My lady, I swear to you I will see the Lannisters answer for your husband's murder." Renly began. "When I take King's Landing, I'll bring you Joffrey's head."
The crowd roared in agreement with what Renly stated, and Visenya looked around in disbelief at the army standing before him. She rolled her eyes in annoyance and she took notice to how Catelyn inhaled a deep breath, with her eyes closed before she replied to his comment.
"It will be enough to know that justice was done, my lord." Catelyn replied quietly.
"Your Grace." Brienne immediately replied. "And you should kneel when you approach the King."
Visenya huffed in amusement before she began to stifle her laughter, which didn't go unnoticed by Margaery. Renly however didn't notice it.
"There's no need for that." Renly explained. "Lady Stark is an honored guest."
Loras stepped forward. "Has your son marched against Tywin Lannister yet?"
"Lady Stark does not sit on her son's war councils." Visenya practically snapped at the knight, turning around to face him. "And if she did, she would not share his strategies with you."
"And you are?" Loras countered, making Visenya's eyes narrow in anger.
'I wish I had Sunspear right now.' She thought to herself, knowing the she-dragon, would burn him to ash if she said the word.
Just as Visenya was about to reply, Catelyn gripped her wrist, to try and ground the girl, before using various insults against the knight and cause more trouble.
"My appologies, Ser Loras." Catelyn explained. "May I present my niece, and handmaiden, Valaria Tully."
"Welcome, Lady Valaria." Renly said warmly, making Visenya's eyes narrow at his voice, even though she didn't face him.
Loras rolled his eyes. "In any case, if Robb Stark wants a pact with us, he should come himself, not hide behind his mother's skirts."
Visenya, now more angrier than before, was ready to physically fight the knight, and just as she was about to run up to him and attack him, she felt Catelyn's grip on her wrist tighten.
"My son is fighting a war, not playing at one." Catelyn explained before releasing Visenya's wrist.
Renly let out a chuckle, before standing up from his chair, and walking off the platform to Visenya and Catelyn.
"Don't worry, my ladies." He began. "Our war is just beginning."
Eventually, Renly was speaking to Catelyn with Brienne by his side, with Visenya trailing a few paces behind them, but she didn't not take notice to the conversation that was occurring between the both of them.
" I have a hundred thousand men at my command. All the might of the Stormlands and the Reach." Renly explained.
"And all of them young and bold like your Knight of Flowers?" Catelyn countered. "It's a game to you, isn't it? I pity them."
"Why?"
Catelyn let out a sigh. "Because it won't last. Because they are the knights of summer and winter is coming."
"Brienne, escort Lady Catelyn and Lady Valaria to their tent." Renly sighed in annoyance. "They are tired from their journey."
Brienne nodded. "At once, Your Grace. Shall I return after?"
"That won't be necessary." Renly replied shaking his head. "I would pray awhile. Alone."
Once Renly departed with some of his Kingsguard, Brienne, Catelyn, and Visenya continued on their own.
"If you'll follow me, my ladies." She explained to Visenya and Catelyn.
After a few moments, Catelyn spoke to her.
"You fought bravely today, Lady Brienne." She spoke with pride.
Brienne nodded. "I fought for my king. Soon I'll fight for him on the battlefield. Die for him if I must. And, if it please you, Brienne's enough. I'm no lady."
A small smile came upon Visenya's face, as she still trailed behind both women. Eventually, once they arrived in their tent and Brienne had left, Catelyn turned to Visenya in anger.
"What did I tell you?" She scolded. "You need to conceal yourself! Suppose Renly finds out who you are?"
Visenya rolled her eyes. "They act like he is the one true King of Westeros."
"Because Renly and Stannis have a better claim to the throne, than Joffrey does." She explained.
"Actually I do." Visenya countered sitting down on one of the cots.
Catelyn froze in her place, looking over the auburn-haired girl, knowing the dye could be removed at any moment, revealing her silver/grey blonde hair.
"What?" Catelyn practically whispered.
Visenya let out a sigh looking down. "A few days ago, during when I was shooting down ravens, I found a letter addressed to Lord Stark, from Jorah Mormont, explaining that my brother Viserys is dead."
Catelyn froze in her words, not knowing how to respond to the girl.
"Making my claim to the iron throne, stronger to Renly or Stannis...or any Baratheon of that matter." She explained picking up her head to look her in the eyes. "Since they are usurpers."
"Then you should be even more cautious." Catelyn explained taking a seat. "Go check on the horses."
Visenya nodded before walking out of the tent heading to where the horses were kept. After checking on Catelyn's horse, Visenya walked over to Rhaenys and began to gently pet her nose.
"Skorkydoso gōntan īlon jiōragon kesīr? (How did we get here?" She calmly asked the white horse, wishing it could respond to her. "Nyke pendagon skorkydoso tolmiot zaldrīzesdōron iksos. (I wonder how far Dragonstone is.)"
It was in moments like these she wished Ned was alive and with her. He would be able to give her guidance, and knowledge of what to do...how to protect herself and how to go for the throne.
"What a beautiful language." A voice said making Visenya turn around tensely to reveal Margaery standing before her. "I've never heard it before...what is it?"
Visenya eyed the girl up and down. She knew exactly what she was trying to do. She was trying to friend her, but Visenya could not tell if it was genuine or not. She didn't trust her...and she wasn't about to lower her walls to let a new person in.
"It's High Valyrian." Visenya coldly replied turning her attention to Rhaenys. "I learn it in my spare time."
Margaery smiled. "Will you teach me?"
Visenya's eyes narrowed in disbelief before ignoring the girl's comment and walking past her to head back to Catelyn for the night.
Angrily, she entered the tent to find Catelyn on the ground kneeling before a chest, crying. Visenya frowned in confusion.
"What's going on?" Visenya asked in confusion.
Catelyn gestured to the chest, making Visenya kneel down and open the chest herself. As soon as she lifted the lid, Visenya felt tears streaming down her face. As she realized that inside the chest were the remains of Ned Stark. Noticing Visenya's response to seeing the remains, Catelyn pulled the girl into her arms, and held her close, as they sobbed together, still heavily dealing with the fact they lost someone very important in both of their lives.
The next morning, Visenya and Catelyn accompanied Renly to meet with Stannis to try and negotiate the terms of joining both armies. Upon seeing Stannis's party approach, Visenya's eyes narrowed in disbelief, as she could not believe that this conversation was about to happen.
"Lady Stark, I had not thought to find you in the Stormlands." Stannis began.
"I had not thought to be here, Lord Stannis." Catelyn replied.
"Can that truly be you?" Renly replied with humor in his voice.
"Who else might it be?" Stannis countered.
" When I saw your standard, I couldn't be sure." Renly admitted before pointing to Stannis's banner. "Whose banner is that?"
"My own."
"I suppose if we used the same one, the battle would be terribly confusing." Renly replied making Visenya tilt her head from side to side. "Why is your stag on fire?"
"The king has taken for his sigil the fiery heart of the Lord of Light." A woman in red explained.
"Ah, you must be this fire priestess we hear so much about." Renly smiled "Mmm, brother, now I understand why you found religion in your old age."
"Watch yourself, Renly." Stannis challenged.
"No, no, I'm relieved." Renly shook his head. "I never really believed you were a fanatic. Charmless, rigid, a bore, yes, but not a godly man."
"You should kneel before your brother." The woman spoke. "He's the Lord's chosen, born amidst salt and smoke."
Visenya's eyes immediately widened as she turned her head in the direction of the woman. She had heard those words before...they were spoken by her father...by her brother Rhaegar...the story they use to tell...The Song of Ice and Fire...The Conqueror's dream.
How did this woman know it?
How did she know about it?
Only Targaryen's know of The Conqueror's dream.
How did she learn it?
"Born amidst salt and smoke?" Renly smirked. "Is he a ham?"
"That's twice I've warned you."
Catelyn groaned. "Listen to yourselves. If you were sons of mine, I would knock your heads together and lock you in a bedchamber until you remembered that you were brothers."
"It is strange to find you beside my brother, Lady Stark." Stannis began. "Your husband was a supporter of my claim. Lord Eddard's integrity cost him his head. And you sit beside this pretender and chastise me."
"We share a common enemy." Catelyn explained.
"The Iron Throne is mine by right." Stannis continued. "All those that deny that are my foes."
Visenya rolled her eyes, which didn't go unnoticed by the unknown woman. As the unknown woman, Melisandre, knew exactly who Visenya was...as she had been watching her from a far.
"The whole realm denies it, from Dorne to the Wall. Old men deny it with their death rattle and unborn children deny it in their mother's wombs." Renly continued. "No one wants you for their king. You never wanted any friends, brother. But a man without friends is a man without power."
"For the sake of the mother who bore us, I will give you this one night to reconsider." Stannis offered. "Strike your banners, come to me before dawn, and I will grant you your old seat in the Council. I'll even name you my heir until a son is born to me. Otherwise I shall destroy you."
Renly was quiet for a moment before looking across at his army.
"Look across those fields, brother." Renly gestured to his army. "Can you see all those banners?"
"You think a few bolts of cloth will make you king?"
Renly shook his head. "No. The men holding those bolts of cloth will make me king."
"We shall see, Renly." Stannis explained. "Come the dawn, we shall see."
"Look to your sins, Lord Renly." Melisandre explained. "The night is dark and full of terrors."
Stannis and his entire party then rode off, leaving Renly, Catelyn, Visenya, and Renly's army all in shock. Renly turned to Catelyn and Visenya.
"Would you believe I loved him once?" He said with annoyance before turning his mount around to head back towards the camp.
Later that evening, Visenya stood outside Renly's tent, as Catelyn and Renly were negotiating the potential fact that Renly would be coming North to fight with Robb. While negotiations were underway, Visenya began to ponder how that woman knew The Song of Ice and Fire. Traditionally, the ruling King passes the prophecy of The Prince That was Promised to each heir to the throne, but Rhaegar, knowing his younger sister loved reading and stories, told her the prophecy. Just as she was about to head back to the tent to wait for Catelyn, she heard a loud gasp in shock, before she heard sobbing. Visenya frowned in confusion before turning around, walking into the tent, to see Brienne crying over Renly's dead body and Catelyn in a state of shock.
Visenya's eyes were wide as moons. "What happened?"
"Something murdered Renly." Brienne explained between her sobs. "It was a shadow...a demon."
'That woman." Visenya confirmed in her mind, knowing she was a sorcerous of some kind.
Visenya glanced over her shoulder out of the tent to see knights of the Kingsguard beginning to head this way.
"We need to get out of here." Visenya explained. "They'll kill her if they find her."
"I know Visenya." Catelyn explained before widening her eyes at what she said.
"Visenya?" Brienne said in disbelief. "As in Visenya Targaryen?"
Visenya shrugged with a nod, before gesturing to the tent door. Brienne shook her head before leading both women out of the tent, and to the stables immediately. Within a matter of moments, all three women were mounted on their horses, and out of Renly's camp, all in a state of shock at what had happened.
A/N
I have officially decided on a faceclaim for Visenya. For flashbacks, which will occur from age 5-16, she'll be played by Milly Alcock, and her current faceclaim that she has, as she is an adult now, will be Katheryn Winnick, as Visenya reminds me of Katheryn's character in Vikings. But remember, Visenya does have dark auburn hair...currently ;)...she may or may not change it...but it won't happen for a while.
As always, please let me know if you'd like to see any specific character interactions. Please fill free to comment, and as always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
