Beside you still
Chapter 2: What?
A/N: Well, there were 3 people interested in continuing. Me, myself & I. Really. I write mainly for my own enjoyment. Yes, I really appreciate reviews & comments,
so bring them on. I will continue this as long as ideas come and I think that I'm doing quality work. This is only my 3rdCLOIS story, it's not my forte, nor my favorite genre. My Lois Lane will be softer, gentler; She likes to cuddle. And she's in love with CK/SM. Of course.

SATURDAY AM, LL APARTMENT
Lois Lane wakes up, stretches and carefully opens her eyes. She glances to her left; the bed is empty. Why wouldn't it be? Well hell, she had just gained a boyfriend! Hadn't she? Oh, she didn't invite Clark to stay. And she had said good-by to Superman! She needs to straighten this out. She looks at her bedside clock-
7:05 AM
They hadn't made any plans before he left last evening. She really would like to talk with him ASAP. Both to ask him some questions and to untangle the Clark/Superman thing. Maybe breakfast then talk. YES!

Lois arrives in 32". Clark's inner clock tells him, he says nothing. He wants to eat his breakfast, not wear it.
She knocks and he opens the door. He allows her to place the 2 bags she brought on his kitchen table before twirling her around and pulling her tight to his chest. She gets out "Wha- before his lips stop all talking. They pick up where they left off last evening. That is before they joined the 'old folks' at the table for the Chinese dinner that Clark had invited them over for. The lip lock quickly becomes deep and passionate!
After he releases her, Lois exclaims "Wow! I guess I don't have as much to explain as I thought."
"What are you talking about?" Clark is puzzled.
"Later. I'm hungry, Smallville!"
"Still Smallville, huh?"
"Always!"
"OK, coffee's ready. Do we need plates and silver ware?"
"Nope, finger food." She starts opening bags & distributing food.
"Ah, kindergarten." He smirks.
"Square 1!" She pecks his lips. 'I love doing that whenever I want!'
He grabs the coffee pot, 2 mugs, napkins, cream and sugar and joins her at the table.
Lois pauses and looks at him. She has never said grace before meals, she knows he does. He reaches across the table; she gives him a hand. He offers a short thanks to the Lord. They begin prepping their coffee, she pulls items out of the bags.
"Wow, croissants!" Clark is pleasantly surprised.
"I thought we'd splurge for our 1st breakfast," Lois grins.
"Our first?" Clark scrunches up his nose.
"As a couple! Right?"
"Labels already?"
"Well, I assumed-
"Lois, I'm kidding." He chuckles. "Yes, we are a couple; girlfriend & boyfriend. I'm ok with that. You?"
"More than ok!" She takes a bite of her croissant.
Clark holds up his, "Where did you get these? The ham, egg, cheese, lettuce & tomato – wow! It's great!"
"Paris."
It's a good thing Clark didn't have a mouthful of coffee, it would have been splattered all over Lois. "What?"
"Paris! A new bistro just up the block from me."
"Ah, I thought, never mind." (An idea occurs to him!)
They finish breakfast in companionable silence. After clean up, they retire to the couch with a cup of coffee each.
"Lois, about last evening."
"I knew you would catch that."
"Something that you feel guilty about?"
"Yes, I said good-night to Superman."
"And?"
"Well, I remembered what you said to me. You know, when you came to check on me after my hospital stay."
"Which part?"
"The thing about the suit . . .. and the real man inside."
"Lois, can you understand why that is important to me?" He is looking deep into her eyes, into her soul.
"Yes, I understand."
He draws her closer, "Lois, who did you fall in love with?"
"Don't take this the wrong way, but that's easy. I have been in love with you for a while now. At least a year . . . so, before I knew that Clark Kent was Superman. Clark, I love you!" Lois pauses for a few moments . . . "of course I love Superman. Most everyone does. But that's different."
She pulls him down for a long kiss, then lets him go while caressing his cheek.
"I love you too, Lois. I have for a long time. For the longest time I thought that you were never going to love me in return. What changed?"
"You just wore me down, I guess. You are the kindest, bravest, most patient man I've ever known. For the longest time I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. You know, I was sure that no one could be that good. It's impossible! But the shoe never dropped! Finally, I came to believe that Clark Kent really was what he was! When I reached that conclusion, it was all over."
Silence . . . then another kiss, or two.
"When you came to the ICU and talked to me . . . when I was still in a coma-
"Did you hear me?" He wonders.
"Some of it. I knew you were talking about me . . .and that you cared for me, a lot."
"You never said anything!"
"I didn't know what to say! I only remembered snitches. So, I didn't say anything. Now, I wish that I had said something. I'm sorry."
"No, no, apology not needed. We'll work this out, I'm sure of it. Now, you have questions, I know that."
"Sure! I am after all the premier investigative reporter on the Daily Planet!"
"Too bad you can't print this."
"I will live with that. If I can live with the man, that is."
"Are you-
Question sopped by lips!
"Ok. First, what gives you your powers? And can I have some?" This intrigues her.
"That's 2 questions."
Lois swats his chest.
"Ow!"
"Baby!"
"Just sensitive!"
Lois laughs so hard that she falls off the couch.
He lifts her up with 2 fingers, twirls her around and sets her down beside himself.
"Show off!"
"1-4-3!"
"Riddles, now?"
"Figure it out, oh smart investigative reporter."
She glares.
He chuckles. "My body Is super-charged by earth's yellow sun."
"What?"
"You heard me."
"There has to be more!"
"Oh, my dear, that is only the beginning!"
