Beep! Beep! Beep!
Ness's phone buzzed with a soft chime as his alarm went off. He reached over, groggily silencing it with a swipe, and let out a sigh before sinking back into the warmth of his bed. After lingering under the covers for another half hour, he finally rolled out, stretching his arms overhead.
He shuffled to the bathroom, where he splashed cool water on his face to shake off the last remnants of sleep. Grabbing his cleanser, he worked it into a bubbly form, feeling the fresh, familiar sensation as it foamed against his skin. He rinsed, brushed his teeth with deliberate strokes, and smoothed lotion onto his face, completing his morning ritual. Once finished, he combed through his hair, which immediately went back to his fluffy messy state.
Back in his room, Ness dressed in his usual preppy attire: a crisp, button-down shirt, tailored pants, and a neatly knitted sweater over the shirt. With a glance in the mirror to check his look, he gave a nod of approval before heading to the kitchen. Lucky, his Espeon, padded over with bright eyes, purring as Ness filled his bowl with his favorite food.
"Alright, Lucky, ready to pick up Lucas?" he asked, picking up his keys.
Lucky finished eating his food then clawed excitedly at the door. Ness chuckled, amused by his enthusiasm, and opened the door, stepping outside and making sure to lock it behind them.
Once they reached Lucas's room, Ness raised his hand and knocked gently on the door. A moment later, the door swung open, revealing Lucas. His face lit up as soon as he spotted them, and a wide smile spread across his face.
"Aww, hi, Lucky!" he beamed, immediately crouching down to greet the Espeon. Lucky purred happily, pressing his soft head against Lucas's hand as he scratched behind his ears, his lavender fur gleaming under the hallway light.
Ness: "Hey, what about me?"
Lucas: "Oh, you're here too."
Ness: "Fuck off."
Lucas: "Hahaha!"
Ness: "Alright, c'mon, let's go get brunch."
Lucas happily walked besides Ness. The two walked over to the food court and ate together.
Ness: "So uh, something happened to me last night."
Lucas: "Something always happens to you I swear."
Ness: "Y-yeaaaah."
Lucas: "What happened?"
Ness: "Red visited me."
Lucas: "What! I thought he hated you."
Ness: "He did."
Lucas: "Did?"
Ness: "Ok, let me explain, so I…"
Lucas: "Yeah?"
Ness: "Hold on. Do you hear them?"
Lucas: "Hear what?"
Ness: "Shhh."
Lucas: "Uh…"
Ness closed his eyes trying to focus on what the other smashers were murmuring about. Meanwhile Lucas went on his phone.
Pac-Man: "Apparently he got her pregnant."
Corrin M: "What!"
Pac-Man: "I know he's a player, but I'm still surprised. I mean he's such a nerd and kinda a nobody."
Corrin F: "He was always kinda cute though."
Corrin M: "Now he is. Remember his bowl haircut and chubby weight?"
Corrin F: "You're right, he was ugly."
Pac-Man: "I don't like the guy. Now that he's good lookin' he thinks he can just get girls pregnant and leave?"
Corrin F: "Is that what he's doing to that poor girl?"
Pac-Man: "Yeah! It's awful. He's awful."
Corrin M: "Ugh, I wouldn't do that."
Corrin F: "You can't even get a girl."
Corrin M: "Yes I can! I just don't want to."
Corrin F: "Excuses."
Pac-Man: "Aye, Megaman, what'd you think of him?"
Megaman: "I don't care."
Pac-Man: "You never care about anything."
Megaman: "I don't like drama."
Pac-Man: "But drama is fun."
Megaman: "Not to me."
Corrin M: "Hey, female Corrin, maybe you should talk to the poor girl. She looks like she could use a friend."
Corrin F: "I don't want to. It's hard to talk to her. All she talks about is Pokemon."
Corrin M: "Yeah, that's kinda lame."
Ness clenched his jaw, already knowing exactly who they were talking about. Pac-Man. It seemed that he'd wasted no time spreading rumors about what went down. Ness felt a simmering frustration rise within him. What was Pac-Man's deal, anyway? He hadn't done a thing to that obnoxious yellow circle, but somehow, he'd earned his dislike.
What's your problem, Pac-Man? Ness thought bitterly, fists tightening.
Lucas: "Uh… Ness?"
Ness: "I know Lucas. They're talking about me."
Lucas: "No, that's not what I was gonna say."
Ness: "Huh?"
Lucas: "Have you checked Twitter yet?"
Ness: "N-no."
Lucas: "You don't wanna see it…"
Ness: "W-why?"
Lucas: "Um…"
Lucas's gaze dropped, and he shifted his weight, nervously glancing to the side with a shy stance. Ness noticed the hesitation and, sensing something was up, quickly pulled out his phone. Logging into Twitter, he was met with a screen practically bursting with activity—notifications piling up in red bubbles and direct messages flooding in by the dozen.
Ness: "Oh god…"
Lucas: "I'm so sorry, Ness."
Ness gritted his teeth as he saw Snake's post.

Ness clenched his jaw, his teeth grinding together as rage surged through him. Is Snake fucking serious right now?! He could hardly believe the audacity. Snake had recorded their fight—the entire confrontation, apparently—capturing every heated moment. When did he even do that? The thought sent a chill down his spine. Snake had been watching, documenting everything, except what happened in his room.
Lucas: "Uh… Ness?"
Ness: "I can't believe he posted that!"
Lucas: "And the video…"
Ness: "Has he been stalking me?! That's creepy!"
Lucas: "That's kinda Snake's whole thing. He likes to hide in an area under his box and record random shit hoping for some drama."
Ness: "I. Hate. Him. So. Much."
Ness could feel the shift in the room as the other Smashers took notice of his presence. Awareness settled over him, and he caught the sidelong glances cast in his direction—quick, judgmental, filled with barely concealed suspicion. Soft whispers drifted around him, just loud enough for him to sense the weight of their scrutiny, yet too quiet to make out the words.
Ness: "I need to speak to Leaf."
Lucas: "I don't think that's a good idea."
Ness: "I should've talked to her yesterday."

…
Lucas: "Who was that?"
Ness: "Red."
Lucas: "You have Red's number?!"
Ness: "We made up."
Lucas: "What!"
Ness: "I pulled him into my room and we talked."
Lucas: "So you guys are friends now?"
Ness: "I wouldn't necessarily classify him as a friend, but I would say our relationship is neutral."
Lucas: "I never thought I'd see the day."
Ness: "Honestly, same. Anyway, I'm going to head over to Leaf's."
Lucas: "Did you want me to join?"
Ness: "No, I think it'll be better if it's private."
Lucas: "Oh… Ok."
Ness: "I have to convince her to get that abortion."
Lucas: "I wouldn't."
Ness: "But it's frustrating!"
Lucas: "I know, but if you try to talk her into it right now, she'll definitely not wanna talk to you anymore."
Ness: "I hate this so much. Why did Nate have to ruin my life!"
Lucas: "..."
Ness: "S-sorry, I didn't mean to bring him up. I just…*sighs* I'm heading to Leaf's. I'll see you later."
Lucas: "Good luck…"
Ness quickened his pace as he made his way to Leaf's. His mind raced with thoughts, but he pushed them aside, focusing on the task at hand. When he reached her door, he raised his hand and knocked firmly, the sound sharp against the silence. He waited, but after a moment, there was no response.
He knocked again, this time with more urgency, but still, nothing. His shoulders slumped in frustration. She's probably still mad at me, he thought, a twinge of regret settling in his chest.
Ness let out a sharp breath and turned on his heel, frustration simmering. He started walking away from Leaf's door, his mind already shifting to his next target—Snake. He had to confront him. He wasn't about to start a fight, but the urge to set him straight was undeniable. Snake had crossed a line, spreading that vile rumor, and Ness wasn't going to let it slide without a word.
As Ness strode with purpose, his steps quick and determined, his eyes caught a familiar figure in the distance—Tina. She waved energetically, her smile bright and welcoming. Without hesitation, she broke into a run, closing the distance between them.

Melodic Discord
Ness's heart skipped a beat, and the surge of anger that had been building inside him quickly melted away, replaced by a flutter of nervousness. His mind raced, unsure of how to respond. Does she know about the rumor? he wondered, his thoughts spiraling. What will she think of me now? His pulse quickened, and a wave of doubt washed over him.
Tina: "Sup, dude."
Ness: "Oh, h-hey."
Tina: "Wanna hang out?"
Ness: "Oh well, you see I… Uh…"
Tina: "C'mon, it'll be fun."
Ness: (She's not talking about the rumor. Is she avoiding it on purpose?) "Y-yeah ok."
Tina: "Cool. Wanna head to your place?"
Ness's face flushed with surprise and a hint of embarrassment. His words stumbled out, faltering in his throat. "M-my place?!"
Tina: "Ya dude. Your place is super clean. I love bein' there."
Ness: "S-s-sure! We can go to my place if you want."
Tina reached out and grabbed Ness's hand, the sudden contact making his heart race. A deep flush spread across his cheeks, his face burning even brighter. He couldn't help but stiffen for a moment, caught off guard by the simple yet intimate gesture.
They walked in silence, the air thick with unspoken words, until they finally reached his door. With a soft click, the door closed behind them, locking them both inside his safe space. The familiar comfort of the room did little to ease the fluttering anxiety in Ness's chest, his mind still reeling from the unexpected turn of events.
Tina walked over to his bed and sat down, the soft fabric of the covers rustling beneath her. She patted the spot next to her, a casual yet inviting gesture, then looked up at Ness with a gentle smile.
He felt his throat tighten, his nervousness intensifying as his gaze shifted from her to the empty space beside her. He hesitated, his mind racing with uncertainty, before finally swallowing hard. With a shaky breath, he lowered himself to the bed, sitting next to her.
Tina: "My band is pretty much ready. I can't wait to show you how we sound."
Ness: "A-already?"
Tina: "Ya dude. We're killin' it! You're gonna be amazed for sure."
Ness: "T-that's fantastic."
Tina: "What about you? How's that electric guitar treatin' ya?"
Ness: "I-I… Uh…"
Tina: "Can I hear you play?"
Ness: "Um… I'm pretty bad."
Tina: "Oh c'mon. I'm sure you're great."
Ness: "It's been a while since I started playing, so—I'm really rusty."
Tina: "I get that. But don't worry, I won't judge."
Ness: "I-I don't know…"
Tina: "Aww, you don't trust me?"
Ness: "I trust you! It's just… I'm—not good enough yet."
Tina: "Hey, look at me."
Ness hesitated, his eyes darting toward the floor as the weight of the moment pressed on him. He wasn't sure how to act, but he slowly turned his head, his gaze finally lifting to meet her. His attention shifted to her face, the soft features illuminated by the light in the room. The way her hair framed her face, the subtle curve of her lips—it was all so captivating.
Tina: "Wanna do a trust exercise with me?"
Ness: "Trust exercise?"
Tina: "Let's sing~!"
Ness: "S-sing?! No no no, I can't sing."
Tina: "It doesn't matter if you're good or not, it's all about havin' fun."
Ness: "Trust me, you don't want to hear my voice."
Tina's hand reached out softly, her fingers gently cupping his face. The warmth of her touch sent a shiver down his spine as she smiled at him, her expression tender and reassuring. Ness's face was now red as a tomato, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn't believe it—HIS CRUSH IS TOUCHING HIM!
For a moment, it felt as though the world around them had faded, leaving just the two of them in a bubble of quiet intimacy. The simple touch felt so natural, so close, that it almost felt like they were already dating. The weight of the rumors, the anger he'd been carrying, all seemed to melt away under her touch. The warmth in his chest blossomed into a sense of happiness he hadn't expected, and for the first time in what felt like forever, everything seemed to be okay.
Tina: "Let's sing together~"
Ness: "O-ok."
Tina: "Just repeat after me."
Ness: "Ok."
Tina: "Cuz when I think of you~"

She put her hand to signify to stop there.
Ness: "I-I was pretty bad."
Tina: "You weren't at all!"
Ness: "Really?"
Tina: "I liked singing with you."
Ness: "That was a lovely melody. Did you compose it yourself?"
Tina: "Yeah."
Ness: "You're so talented."
Tina: "Thank you~ I hope this exercise was fun for you as much as it was for me."
Ness: "I'm a little uncomfortable, but I have to admit, it was fun."
Tina: "I'm glad~ Can you play for me now?"
Ness: "Uh—I-I… You really want me to play, huh?"
Tina: "I won't judge. I've already proven I'm safe, right?"
Ness: "Y-yeah ok."
Tina: "Eeee! Ness!"
Without warning, she swung her arms around him, pulling him into a tight embrace. Ness's heart skipped a beat, his chest tightening as he wrapped his arms around her in return. The sensation of holding her felt surreal.
His mind raced, unsure of what was happening. Is this happening? he wondered, his thoughts swirling. Is she really here, in my arms? The warmth of the moment felt too perfect, too dreamlike to be true. He couldn't shake the feeling that any second, he might wake up, but for now, he held on, savoring the joy that filled him.
When she pulled away, a playful glint sparkled in her eyes. She crawled over to where Ness's guitar rested against the wall, her movements fluid and graceful. With a cheerful smile, she picked it up and brought it over to him, her hands carefully cradling the instrument.
"Here," she said softly, handing it to him with a bright, expectant look on her face. Ness's hands shook slightly as he nervously took the guitar from her, his fingers brushing against hers for a fleeting moment. The weight of the instrument felt heavier than usual in his grasp.
Tina: "Pretend I'm not here."
Ness: "I don't think that's possible."
Tina: "Don't be so nervous. You got this!"
Ness: "I-I'll try my best."
Ness's fingers trembled slightly as they glided over the guitar strings, but the sound that followed wasn't what he expected. It was rough, the notes not coming out as smoothly as they usually did.
A tight knot of anxiety twisted in his stomach as he heard the sour, off-key notes ringing through the air. This sounds horrible! His thoughts spiraled out of control. She's going to think I'm terrible at guitar… The more he played, the worse it felt, as if his nervousness was seeping into every strum, tainting the music. His heart raced, and for a moment, he almost wanted to stop, to hide the guitar away and pretend this never happened.
As Ness's fingers stilled on the strings, he felt a gentle touch on his hand. It was unexpected, sending a jolt of surprise through him. He gasped, his breath catching in his throat. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world seemed to pause. She was smiling at him—a smile so warm and genuine it could melt the coldest of hearts.
"It's okay," she said softly. "I've had my fair share of mess-ups." Her words were comforting, and her smile deepened. "Take a deep breath and play from your heart."
Her voice, calm and reassuring, was like the sweetness of ice cream on a hot summer day—cool and perfect in its simplicity. Ness's tension eased slightly as he looked into her eyes, finding the courage to try again.
Ness smiled, feeling a wave of reassurance wash over him. He gave her a nod, grateful for her kindness, before his fingers returned to the guitar. This time, as he strummed, the notes flowed more naturally, each one ringing out with a warmth he hadn't expected. There were a few missed notes, the occasional stumble, but the sound that filled the room was far more pleasant than before. It didn't have the precision of a professional performance, but it was far from bad. It felt real, imperfect, and yet, somehow, beautiful in its own way.
Tina's eyes lit up with excitement, and she couldn't hold back her enthusiasm. She squealed, clapping her hands together in pure delight. "Eeee! You're so good!" The praise poured over him. It made him feel seen, loved, and appreciated in a way that eased the last of his lingering nerves.
Encouraged by her reaction, Ness played a little louder, the music flowing more confidently from his fingers. Her smile grew even wider. When he finally finished the song, Tina didn't hesitate—she grabbed his arm, squeezing it tightly with a burst of affection.
"You're going to be perfect for the band~" she said, her voice full of certainty and excitement, making Ness's heart flutter with the weight of her words.
Ness: "R-really?"
Tina: "Riley and Kip are gonna love ya."
Ness: "Right… Riley and Kip."
Tina: "I'm so excited for you to hear what we sound like."
Ness: "I can't wait to witness."
Tina: "Aaaah! I love you!"
Ness: "Y-you do?"
Tina: "Ya dude. You're such a life-saver. We're gettin' the band back all thanks to you~"
Ness's heart raced as he looked at Tina, his thoughts drifting toward an impulse he knew he couldn't act on. He wanted to kiss her right then and there, the desire almost overwhelming, but he quickly reined in the thought. The sheer intensity of it left him feeling both flustered and guilty.
In fact, even thinking about kissing her right now made him feel... excited. Fortunately, the guitar was still resting on his lap, providing some much-needed cover. If she looks down... he thought, panic creeping in. She'll definitely notice...
The tension in his chest tightened. He tried to focus, but all he could think about was how embarrassing it all felt. Why am I like this? He cursed inwardly, wishing he could just control it. The mix of emotions—desire, shame, and frustration—swirled together in a knot that left him feeling more vulnerable than ever.
Tina: "Oh, can I use your bathroom?"
Ness: "Of course!"
Tina: "Thanks~"
Ness watched as Tina disappeared into the restroom, the sound of the door closing softly behind her. He let out a long sigh, feeling the tension from earlier slowly melt away. He carefully placed his guitar back in its stand, his fingers lingering on the strings for a brief moment before he turned toward the TV. With a flick of the remote, he switched it on, the glow of the screen casting a soft light over the room. He wrapped himself in a warm blanket, letting the fabric hide his boner.
When Tina emerged from the bathroom, she met his gaze, and the two of them shared a quiet smile, a sense of unspoken connection between them. She sat down next to him, the familiar warmth of her presence settling beside him.
They both got comfortable, leaning into the peaceful stillness as they started watching TV together, the noise of the show fading into the background as the moment felt... just right.
Tina: "What's this show called?"
Ness: "Steve's Universe."
Tina: "I like it."
Ness: "You don't think it's childish?"
Tina: "No, why would I think that?"
Ness: "Well it's a cartoon…"
Tina: "So?"
Ness: "I had assumed you'd prefer something more serious."
Tina: "I don't care for cartoons, but I'm not gonna judge ya for it."
Ness: "Oh."
Tina: "Besides, this one seems cool."
Ness: "I don't really watch this show. I just saw that it was on, so I chose this one in particular."
Tina: *Giggles* "You're lying. You totally watch this show all the time~"
Ness: "N-no."
She leaned in closer to him, a smirk plastered on her face. "Hey, I ain't judgin'. This show seems chill as fuck."
Ness: "Haha…"
The two continued to watch until Tina let out a yawn.
Ness: "Oh! D-did you need to go home now?"
Tina: "Yeah, it's gettin' late."
Ness: "Ok, well, I had fun! We should do this again sometime."
Tina: *Giggles* "You sound like my ex."
Ness: "Darnell?!"
Tina: "No, Sonic."
Ness: "Oh, eww."
Tina: "Hahaha! You don't like him?"
Ness: "No. He's annoying."
Tina: "Nah, he's chill."
Ness felt a curious tug at his thoughts, wanting to ask about the breakup. From the way they spoke, it didn't seem like it had been an ugly or bitter parting—they still seemed to share a friendship, a bond that hadn't completely unraveled. He found himself wondering what their relationship had been like, how it had evolved, but he quickly realized that prying would be crossing a line.
Besides, the idea that those two had once been together stirred something in him—an unexpected pang of jealousy. It felt irrational, but it was there, lingering in the back of his mind. He decided it was best not to ask otherwise his jealousy might get the better of him.
Ness: "That's—great."
Tina: "Ugh, I'm so tired, but I also don't wanna move. I'm so comfy here."
Ness: "C-comfy?"
Tina: "Your bed is nice. Is it ok if I crash here tonight?"
Ness: "Cr-crash?! Y-you mean like… Like…"
Tina: "Can I sleepover?"
