Chapter 7:
(Okay, time for Marmalade's big idea. A ton of references are gonna be in this one, so I hope they're not too overbearing. I hope you guys enjoy this one. This one may or may not be shorter compared to the others)
Marmalade's manservant Cuddles drove the car where the professor's idea. Zeke hoped that wasn't a pet name, the man simply gave the child nervous grin, since he doesn't talk much. "Oh! I've got a song request!" Snake heard that and tried to stop him, "No! No one wants to listen to Kpop!"
"You mean YOU don't? Zeke, tell him to put it on full-blast!" Webs said, smirking.
Zeke gave his uncle a sly look, "Put on KDA - POP/STARS." He said, which irritated Snake. Cuddles put it on the song, to which Zeke and his aunt started vibing to. "I must say, Mr. Wolf. Your son is a lot more kindhearted than I thought." Professor Marmalade said, "Heh. You…You think so?" Wolf asked,
"Yes, indeed. You did a good job of raising the boy, surprisingly." The professor had said, Wolf looked at his son. "Maybe I had help with the kiddo."
The car arrived at Sunnyside Laboratories, a crowd in front of them shouting "Free the Pigs!." Marmalade explained why they were here.
"That is an animal testing lab." He said, "Within, 200,000 helpless guinea pigs, all being poked and prodded by sadistic scientists." Snake grinned creepily, "Guinea pigs, you say?" He asked, Zeke took a few steps back. "Snake…" Wolf said, glaring at him, "I want you to rescue them. But—This is a heist for good." Zeke nodded, "Oh! Like Carmen Sandiego." He said. With Professor Marmalade giving him an questioning look. "Anyways, I've brought something more friendly for you to wear." Cuddles brought out a set of onesies.
Wolf had a sheep. Fitting for the saying, Zeke thought. Snake had a unicorn. Shark had a walrus. Webs had a lemur. Piranha had a bear.
Zeke also got one, a pink axolotl. "Why am I wearing one?" Zeke asked, blushing nervously. "Aww, kiddo. You look adorable!" Shark said, Wolf chuckled, taking a picture with his phone. "You will pay for this." Zeke said, squinting his eyes at Wolf. "Besides, I would've preferred a Moogle cloak." The others were completely annoyed with their onesies on. When the professor dropped off the Bad Guys, Webs said, "Well, there goes our street cred." Piranha, showing that he likes the onesie, "At least it's comfortable."
Zeke listened in on the heist from the car. He found it suspicious when his Uncle Hubert volunteered to do something. "He's clearly up to something. You guys need to keep watch on him." Zeke said to the others. "On it, buddy. I've got it covered." Wolf said, knowing Snake. Zeke heard his Uncle Lou on the other end, pretending to be someone's dad.
"You know, Uncle Lou, you'd be a great dad one day." Zeke said, encouragingly. "Haha. Thanks, kiddo." Shark said, loving the compliment. The Bad Guys eventually got in the building. "Right. The guinea pigs are locked behind a 3-ft steel door. The only way in is through the vents." The professor explained. "Huh…Weird, Professor. Have you been here before?" Zeke asked, wondering how the professor seemed to know the layout. "Well, before we drove here, I looked up the layout of this laboratory." He explained, Zeke narrowed his eyes and nodded, but it didn't look like he understood.
Cuddles parked the car and let out the professor and Zeke, the crowd of protesters gathering in front of them. "It's Professor Marmalade." They excitedly cheered, hoping he would help with the protest. Zeke heard muttering of people who walked by him. "Isn't that the "son" of Mr. Wolf? You think he's as bad as they are?" Some asked, others asked why he was bright blue. I'm not defective, you know, Zeke thought. "Don't crowd the child. He's with me. Now then, just keep your eyes glued to that door." Zeke left the comms in the car, leaving him wondering if things were going okay. "Yeah. No worries, folks. Those guinea pigs should be a-okay." After a while, the door opened up to a wave of guinea pigs, some crashing into Professor Marmalade. Zeke tripped over one, and some of the protesters were being chased off. The rabbit looked up to see his family. Wolf was spinning Snake around with guinea pigs coming out of Snake's mouth, Shark openly having some in his mouth, Piranha looked like he was about to fight one and Webs was riding one. Zeke shut his eyes in disappointment. "It's not what it looks like." Wolf said, defending himself and the others. The alarm went off and Snake threw up another guinea pig. "What the heck is wrong with you, Uncle Hubert?!" Zeke shouted at him, already knowing what went down. Here's hoping Ms. Governess doesn't hear about this, Zeke thought. Who was he kidding? They were screwed.
(So here's the end. I hope to get into the next chapter a lot more quickly. So, fun fact, I just barely got into Netflix's Carmen Sandiego and I had a thought, how cool would a The Bad Guys/Carmen Sandiego crossover be? It bet it'd be SO weird, tho.
