There was a bittersweet feeling in the air as they engaged in sisterly arguments about trivial matters. This familiar banter brought a sense of warmth, yet it also served as a stark reminder of the emotional distance that had grown between them.
Had she remained in contact with Anna, would the sisters have been closer?
Those gossip about their husband and fiancé.
Those lengthy talks about their favourite movies.
Those funny moments they would share.
Those days where they would've reminisced.
Those chats about the future and what it holds.
Those amusing little rare moments when they would miss each other and tell I love yous to each other.
The quartet gathered around the cozy corner table with their Nana. Although the air was filled with lively chatter, a profound silence enveloped them, reaching deep into their very souls.
Elsa and Jack sat across from Anna and Kristoff, with Nana seated at the head of the table, cherishing this heartwarming scene. After being separated for years, seeing them reunite deeply touched her. At that moment, she felt a profound sense of fulfillment, knowing she could now depart from this world in peace.
As Elsa swirled her glass of red wine, she shut her eyes and asked, "So, how did you both meet?" A part of her, a huge part of her, was uneasy.
So, the conversation began. "It was a love-at-first-sight moment, like one of those movie scenes. I bumped into Kristoff while running to my class in the hallway, and we looked into each other's eyes. Oh, it was beautiful, Elsa; that's when I knew he was the one for me."
Kristoff beamed as he lovingly glanced at her. "It was the same for me, Mrs. Overland."
Elsa snorted; it came out as less sincere and more sarcastic. She didn't know why. "Call me Elsa, Kristoff." She wanted to say they were too young to get married, but she held it in.
"Yes, ma'am." He obliged.
Anna, who had a keen eye, tilted her head and lifted her eyebrow, "Why are you being so weird? You haven't even congratulated us."
Blinking multiple times, Elsa behaved as if she was being accused. "I'm not being weird. And it's not like you've congratulated me."
"Oh, so this what it's about." Anna sighed and rolled her eyes, giving her what she wanted. "Well, congratulations, sister, on-"
Then it hit her, and this was surely going towards an argument, so she cut her mid-talk. "Thank y-"
Anna laughed sarcastically as she continued with her previous remark, "-on your wedding that I didn't receive an invitation to."
Jack and Nana remained silent, allowing the others to release their pent-up anger. They were grateful that their conversation was not overheard from their secluded corner. Jack had gathered that Anna was kind, yet he also empathized with the lingering bitterness, choosing to keep his counsel. If Elsa desired his input, he would readily oblige.
The older woman, seated just a few meters away, lowered her head onto the table. She couldn't help but feel that the previous moment had been too perfect to last, and despite their deep understanding of each other, some unresolved tension lingered.
"I'm not doing this, Anna. I'm sorry I didn't invite you; it all happened quickly. But I'm here for you that's what matters." She muttered hopefully, "Right?"
"You left me all alone, and somehow I accepted it. But getting married without me, without your sister. I can't and will never forgive you for that. I knew it wasn't good for you here, and you left. It was heartbreaking, but I accepted it! Did you not even think of telling me via call if you couldn't invite me? I had to hear it from Nana. Do you know how hurtful it is?"
Each word pierced her heart further, "I'm sorry, Anna. For leaving, for not staying in contact, for...for getting married without you and not telling you myself. But I'm here for your engagement and-" Elsa swallowed hard, refusing to let the tears stream down her face."-and congratulations. I'm happy for you."
Anna's laughter was intertwined with tears. "I don't want your sorrys."
"What do you want, Anna? Tell me."
"I don't know what I want! All I know is I don't need your empty sorrys."
"Tell me!"
"Shit, you asked for this. I want those years back when I stood by the door and waited for you daily. I wanted to run in the hallway, hang out with you, have a snowball fight, and laugh with you." Anna whispered under her breath, "I wanted to cry with you. I just needed a sister that I loved so much. There! That's what I fucking wanted, Elsa!"
The bubble exploded, and Elsa finally cried, "I was stupid to think we'd be the same again. I knew you had built up a grievance towards me even though you didn't show it." Her eyes burned.
"So was I."
Elsa buried her face in her hands, concealing her shattered expression. "I suppose you still don't understand why I left," she murmured.
"I guess I don't."
"Do you want me to be honest, Anna?"
Anna stayed quiet, and Elsa took it as a yes because she yearned to let her thoughts out. "I didn't think that'd affect you. You were young, so young to even remember our memories. And you had everyone who dearly loved you. If anything, it was a favour that I left. With me around, the family would have had so much negativity."
"I know you suffered, but I was here," Anna pointed to Nana. "Our grandmother was here who loves you way more than me."
The scene was utterly unprecedented. Nana let out a deep sigh and finally broke the unbearable silence. "Anna, I never-"
"Don't even Nana. We both know it's not true." She kept talking, letting all her emotions out. "Elsa, you still had us. You had the luxuries here. You had everything here, and it was enough. I know it wasn't that bad for you. You had everything."
Having had enough, Elsa stood up and didn't care if anyone heard her now. "I did not fucking have everything. I didn't have the peace that you had. I didn't have the family that you had, and most importantly, I didn't-" Elsa swallowed and shut her eyes tight "-I didn't...have the love you had. I had no one that cared for me. You were too young even to understand the shit I went through. I could only play with you when I was given permission. And Nana here-" She pointed at the expressionless lady. "-She couldn't even make my life better here; her love wasn't enough; it was pitiful. So yes, It was bad, Anna. It was fucking hell. No one loved me, okay...No one."
"Oh dear." Only now, Nana realized how unfairly she treated her granddaughters. She gave more love to Elsa, knowing she had no one, and with that, unintentionally neglected Anna.
Gasping, Elsa realized what she had just said and stood up, ashamed, stuttering. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that…any of that; I'm sorry to you both and for ruining such a happy day for you." She began to step away gradually. "And congratulations, Anna. I think I have to leave. I'll go now. I'm sorry again. I'll go." Elsa walked away, apparently towards her car.
Jack didn't utter a word, only bowed and left the table. On his way, he saw the grimaces on everyone's faces following Elsa, and he halted, wanting to say something, but didn't know if Elsa wished for that, so he stood in the corner to see what they would say behind her back. So he could understand what she went through.
Jack saw them and heard the voices around him loud and clear.
Jacob Arandelle slapped Agnarr's back. "Didn't I tell you not to invite that cursed girl?"
Ella shook her head in disappointment. "If only she weren't born."
George had his cruel words, too. "As always, Elsa throws a tantrum and ruins the party."
Elizabeth put her input: "My son's right. You have spoiled that brat too much."
Carmen spoke, too. "Next time you invite her, tell me because I'm not showing up."
Iduna answered guiltily, "It was Anna's request, and you know we can never turn it down."
Another lady whispered in the corner, "God, that woman truly looks like a witch. All that white hair. They were right."
Jack scoffed loudly, making sure he was heard. "I pity you all."
Smith, who already hated Jack initially, walked up to him. "What did you say asshole?"
And so Jack stepped closer to him and spelled the words slowly, "I said I pity you. Was that not heard?"
The head of the family, Jacob Arandelle, screamed. "Who let this man in? Kick this nobody out right this moment." But surprisingly, no one reached Jack. The guards that were here vanished.
"Oh, how I wish you knew who I am." The billionaire he was contemplated if he should let the secret out and see them beg. "I truly pity this so-called family you have. Elsa is such an extraordinary person. She is a kindhearted and loving girl. It's an honour to be her husband, and I see every day what a remarkable woman she is. So it's a pity you don't truly know her, and I'm so glad because you don't deserve even an ounce of her sincerity."
Everyone stood shook and mumbled. "Oh, that's the husband." They had forgotten he was showing up; some just found out she was married.
Anthony laughed loudly, grabbed Jack's collar, and smiled. "Save the speech, lover. Did she pay you to say this? She really did spread her legs to-"
And this is when Jack threw the first punch at a well-deserved waste of clay. "Didn't I warn you assholes before to keep my wife's name out of your filthy mouth?"
"Guards!" Agnarr yelled again so Anthony could be saved, as it was clear that no one had any chance of beating Jack.
The guards were nowhere to be seen, leaving the whole family bewildered. After a long wait, the guards eventually arrived, bringing relief as everyone realized that Smith and Anthony would be safe.
The situation suddenly changed as they didn't grab Jack but instead seized Smith by the arms and forcefully pushed him to the ground, pressing his face against the floor. At that moment, everyone realized that these guards weren't theirs.
That was Jack Overland's guards.
Everyone could only watch as Jack was brutally beating up Anthony, too afraid even to move an inch.
Smirking, Jack gripped Anthony's face, coated in red. "See, I love that look on you. Look at your bloody face, and oh Lordy lord, it's swollen. Looks like you won't be able to speak for weeks." Jack strangled him with one hand and, with the other, tugged his hair, holding him up in the air. "Now, until you can talk again, I want you to think hard and understand that if I ever hear my wife's name from your disgusting mouth again."
"I will end you." Jack let Anthony go, and he wheezed for air. The mother yelled her son's name as blood kept rushing out of him.
With an adrenaline rush and a villainy look, the man glanced around and saw the fearful faces. "Don't be dramatic; he won't die. If anything, it was self-defence; he touched me first."
The mother asked with bloodshot eyes, "How is this self-defence? He's the only one that's hurt."
"It's not my fault you gave birth to a weakling. Teach him not to throw hands if he can't fight back."
Jack walked up to Nana. "It was nice meeting you, Nana." Then he turned to his sister-in-law and the fiancé. "Congratulations on your engagement. As you can see, I didn't start the mess, but I still apologize. I'll see you at your wedding. Have a good night."
Now, he still had some strange feelings about Nana and Anna because of the argument a few minutes ago, but he possibly couldn't be rude to the only family she had left. At least not until Elsa spoke ill of them.
The three nodded with dropped jaws. What just happened? In a blink, the man who acted like a golden retriever turned into a demon before them. And solely for Elsa. A girl he had known for less than a week.
The silenced aged man Jacob Arandelle, who stood far away, understood a bit too late that Jack Overland was not to be messed with, and the vanished guards hinted he was not some ordinary boy.
In fact, a rich boy who could end bloodlines for Elsa.
There was only one thing on everyone's mind: "Who was he? And why did he choose Elsa?"
But he didn't choose her; the universe had chosen Elsa for Jack centuries ago.
Once again.
Honestly, I didn't want to write a billionaire brutal Jack, but I got multiple requests. So here you have it, but he'll remain an adorable dork for Elsa.
