CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Zak

Leaning against the back of my truck, I was appreciating the beautiful morning. An especially beautiful one because for the first time in seventy-two hours, I'd gotten more than just an hour and a half of sleep.

After everyone had left last night, Saber told Dagda that she'd not been sleeping and was basically allergic to all sleeping potions. That hadn't sat well with him and after he gave Ryker a disappointed look, he asked me for paper, where he drew an array that I'd never seen before and that Ryker had, apparently, forgotten. Then, with a quick 'ok' from Saber, he stuck it on her forehead. A minute later she was out.

I don't subscribe to religion and I'm still pissed at him for forcing my hand, but at that exact moment, I was willing to build him a shrine.

I'm pretty sure he slapped one on me too, because despite only getting four hours of sleep, when I woke up on the couch this morning I felt like I had slept for a day. So if he did, I really didn't care.

"I'll drive." Came Dagda's voice from the porch as he passed Ryker his harp and waved him off.

My eyebrows shot up, I must've not heard correctly, "Excuse me?"

"I'll drive, you can sleep." He smiled and held out his hand for the keys.

I looked to his hand than back to his face. "Yeah, I don't think so." Then pushed off the truck and walked to the driver's side, "I'm awake enough."

"I do have a license you know."

I opened the door, "Still 'no'."

"Humph. Fine." His lips thinned and he gave me a look that could either be interpreted as 'offense' or disappointment that I wouldn't let him drive. "Then you can order us breakfast." He pointed at me and hopped in the cab.

Breakfast? I shook my head and climbed in. Today was going to be interesting.
