An Unexpected Kiss

Chapter 1

The game was revolutionary. What an atmosphere, what excitement!

Natsu couldn't believe her eyes when she saw all these insanely good players on the court. The Schweiden Adlers against the Black Jackals – long awaited and finally come true. Unbelievable. It was a banquet full of monster players gathered on the court before her eyes, playing like their lives depended on that very game.

The fact that her brother's team had won in the end was almost irrelevant. Natsu, like so many others who had come to the Sendai Arena on this historic day, was overwhelmed by the line-up of talented athletes. Whether being an Adlers's or a Jackals' supporter – everyone got their money's worth. Not to mention the volleyball veterans. As if they weren't enough to make any fan's mouth water. But the generation of monsters was also there. They were the dominating force on the court, and one of these berserkers was her own brother. The one who could do nothing right, and moved with sheer determination and willpower, but was lucky enough to be able to jump higher than anyone else, and exuded a sense of never-ending optimism that one day he would be able to take on the world. Which, frankly, he did.

Although her brother was indeed capable of amazing things, Natsu's main focus was on someone else: Tobio Kageyama. This setter was just amazing! She had to see him, preferably up close, and she had to talk to him, even if it was only for a few seconds.

'Damn it… the guy totally ignores me. Can he even see me? Why am I so goddamn short? It's not like it'll change anything. I am just a spectator. He's a monster, part of that volleyball generation of monsters. They are all insane, yet brilliant. Damn, what should I do? I have absolutely no business with Kageyama. Yet I want to! Well, here goes nothing...'

The crowd in front of her was just one of the obstacles on her way down to the parapet. Even if she could get past all those bodies, it still wouldn't guarantee that Tobio Kageyama, Schweiden's phenomenal setter, would even notice her. She would still be waiting in the stands then, and he, he would be down on the court obediently signing his autographs surrounded by approximately one hundred waiting fans. Sure, she could call out to him and cause a ruckus, but what kind of first impression was that supposed to make? She wasn't tall enough to stand out much, and she just didn't have the time or patience to put a ton of makeup on her face to magically flash in front of him like a neon sign.

Said patience was hanging by a thread now, and it didn't take long for it to snap. A heavy push from behind, a fat guy in an Adlers shirt, finally set her in motion.

Natsu decided here and then that waiting was futile and for the weak, but luck was with the brave, therefore she had to be brave. Otherwise, she would never be able to talk to the Kageyama himself. And she needed to talk to him. If only for a couple of seconds, she needed to talk to the guy.

Self-doubt and a pity fest never got you anywhere, that was for sure.

Angrily and somewhat determined, she pushed two people in front of her to the side, squeezed in between others, leaned down the railing, and grabbed, without even saying a single word, Kageyama's face, roughly forcing the star-setter to look up at her.

Time stood still. Natsu was confused. What should she do? She sidestepped all those people and got to Kageyama like she wanted to. She hadn't seen him up close in years, never been that close to him before, and certainly never talked to him. The situation was surreal. Not able to think clearly, Natsu just reacted.

Before he could even register what so suddenly had happened to him, Kageyama was met with to very warm lips that pressed vigorously against his own.

He looked up, puzzled from the sudden attack, and stared into a pair of caramel-brown eyes. 'So warm.'

Both of them kept on looking, not breaking eye contact: one pair of eyes seemed rather perplexed and curious, the other determined with an agenda.

Kageyama wanted to say something, anything really, and ask that enigma of a girl in front of him, what she was doing, why she was doing what she just did, and why on earth she did stop what she was doing just a few seconds ago. But her soft yet demanding hands held him securely in place, and her determined stare rendered him utterly speechless.

Natsu took in one sharp breath and braced herself for her own verbal onslaught on the unsuspecting setter. 'I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna say it.' Her mantra.

Without taking her surroundings into consideration, also totally ignoring the patiently waiting fans that still stood in line to get an autograph of their favourite setter, or the slightly annoyed reporters for that matter who had already taken dips on who gets to interview the genius setter first, she yelled everything on her mind right into Kageyama's still confused face.

"Amazing! You were simply amazing! How you dumped that ball after the second touch rendering Miya-san absolutely speechless. Or how you did those high sets for Ushiwaka, wow. I got wobbly knees just from watching you serve. That's what I call a power-display. You are inspiring, Kageyama-san! Watching you perform on the court is like seeing real art. Your style is so breathtakingly beautiful."

After that, she didn't say anything else.

Natsu gave Kageyama a bright smile which hit him like a beam of sunlight and warmed his insides instantly. He was blinded by her. Her cheeks took on a soft hue of pink, signalling her slight embarrassment. Then she bit her bottom lip, as if being self-conscious all of a sudden.

As if realizing that she was still holding onto the star-setter and leaning down towards him, Natsu abruptly let go of him.

'Chocolate,' he thought before losing that fleeting contact again. 'She tastes like chocolate.'

Natsu shot him one last look, meeting his eyes directly, and then she simply vanished in the crowd. He stared after her, frozen. One could have thought that he died on the spot as he kept on staring after the girl.

Violently shaken out of his stupor, Kageyama then felt a persistent pull on his shirt. He looked down at the little boy in an Adlers shirt sporting his squad number, who was all smiles and had probably been waiting patiently to finally get his autograph and picture taken.

"Kageyama-san, was that nice looking lady your girlfriend?" he innocently asked, flashing him a big toothy grin that missed a teeth here and there.

"Hn"

Once again Kageyama Tobio didn't know what to say. She had taken his breath and therefore his voice away.

'What the heck was that?!'
