Chapter nineteen:

Wind

At the hotel, Anastasia sat at a large, ornate table, maps and documents spread out before her as she meticulously studied the information she'd gathered on the chaos unfolding in Kagaragi. Her blue eyes were sharp with focus, her demeanor composed but tense as she sifted through intelligence reports and murmurs from her informants, piecing together the motives behind the attacks and strategizing her next move.

Julius stood beside her, watching with a mix of admiration and concern. The triplets, Mimi, Tivey, and Hetaro, clustered around, their usual cheer subdued as they observed Anastasia's intense concentration. Mimi, ever-curious, leaned in close, her wide eyes fixed on the maps and diagrams.

"Mama, are we gonna have to fight those bad people?" she asked, her voice soft, a hint of worry creeping into her tone.

Anastasia gave her a small, reassuring smile, placing a gentle hand on Mimi's shoulder. "Don't worry, Mimi. Mama's got it all planned out, ya see. We're just makin' sure everyone's safe, that's all." She shot a quick, confident look at Julius, who nodded in silent agreement, his posture relaxed but alert.

As they continued their discussion, a strange silence fell over the room, a quiet that felt unnatural. Anastasia paused, her head tilting slightly as she noticed the shift in the atmosphere. Just as she opened her mouth to say something, the door to their suite swung shut with a swift, almost mechanical click, echoing through the room with a finality that sent a shiver down her spine.

Everyone froze, their gazes snapping to the door, confusion flickering in their eyes.

"What the…?" Julius muttered, his hand instinctively moving to his sword as he took a step forward.

A tense silence settled over the room, stretching for several agonizing seconds. And then, just as they began to relax, they heard it—a faint, hissing sound, so quiet it was almost imperceptible at first. It grew louder, slithering through the silence like a whispered threat.

"Hiss… hiss… hiss…"

Anastasia's eyes widened, her heart pounding as the sound intensified, filling the room with an eerie cadence. She looked down and saw them—snakes, slithering in from every corner of the room, their scales gleaming in the dim light, their tongues flicking out as they advanced.

Mimi let out a small gasp, clutching tightly to Tivey's arm as the serpents flooded the floor, their cold, beady eyes fixated on the group. The triplets huddled together, their faces pale as the snakes crept closer, coiling and uncoiling in a writhing mass.

"Everyone, back!" Julius barked, positioning himself protectively between the snakes and the others, his sword drawn as he surveyed the room, looking for an escape route.

Anastasia quickly pulled the triplets close, her eyes narrowing as she calculated their options, her mind racing. "Looks like someone's sendin' a message," she murmured, her voice calm but tense as her gaze flicked to the door, which was now blocked by a wall of serpents.

The hissing grew louder, filling the room with a cold, malevolent energy as the snakes continued to pour in, their numbers growing by the second.

The group scrambled atop the large table, their boots and shoes clattering against the wood as they huddled together, watching in horror as the room became a writhing, undulating sea of serpents. The hissing was almost deafening now, a sinister chorus that echoed off the walls and filled the air with a cold dread.

Julius stood at the front, sword drawn, his usually composed face set in a fierce expression as he prepared to defend the group. The triplets clung to Anastasia, their wide eyes darting fearfully across the room as the pile of snakes grew higher, their beady eyes watching with a chilling, unblinking stare.

Just then, amidst the chaos, the snakes parted, creating a path through the sea of scales. A figure emerged from the shadows, stepping forward with a calculated grace. He was dressed in dark, flowing robes, his face obscured by a serpent-shaped mask that left only his cold, calculating eyes visible. With a flourish, he bowed low, his movements slow and deliberate, exuding an unsettling calm in the midst of the pandemonium.

"Greetings, Lady Anastasia," he purred, his voice smooth and chilling, echoing slightly as he straightened, his masked face tilting upward to meet her gaze. "I apologize for the… inconvenience. But I thought it only fitting that we meet under circumstances that truly represent my… domain."

Anastasia's eyes narrowed, her expression hardening as she took in the figure before her. "So… you're the one they call the Viper," she said, her tone cool and unwavering despite the mass of serpents beneath them. "Quite the entrance. But I'd rather ya called off yer little pets here if ya want to talk business."

The Viper's lips twisted into a smirk behind his mask, his gaze lingering on her with an air of amused disdain. "Ah, but Lady Anastasia, these 'pets' of mine are here to ensure… cooperation. You wouldn't want to ruin such a charming arrangement, would you?"

Julius clenched his jaw, his grip tightening on his sword as he glared down at the Viper. "You call this an arrangement? I call it a coward's tactic."

The Viper merely chuckled, his head tilting slightly as he regarded Julius with faint amusement. "Cowardice, perhaps, but efficiency nonetheless. I find that threats do well to establish… understanding."

Anastasia's eyes flashed with irritation, though she kept her tone level. "Ya don't scare me, Viper. I've seen worse than a few snakes. So why don't ya tell us what ya really want?"

The Viper took a slow, measured step forward, his hands clasped behind his back as he surveyed them, his voice soft but laced with menace. "I have no need to frighten you, Lady Anastasia. I merely intend to offer a… partnership, shall we say. You've been a thorn in certain circles, and a unique opportunity has presented itself—one that would be mutually beneficial if we were to… align our goals."

Anastasia crossed her arms, her gaze steely as she regarded him. "And what's in it fer me?"

The Viper smiled, his mask glinting in the dim light as he leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper that was both inviting and threatening. "Protection. Influence. Resources that even a Hoshin cannot attain so easily. Kagaragi is a treacherous place, and I would hate to see your ambitions… drowned by more than just snakes."

Anastasia held his gaze, unflinching as she weighed his words, her expression unreadable. The Viper straightened, his head cocking slightly as he awaited her answer, his cold eyes glinting with anticipation. The snakes, still writhing at their feet, seemed to echo the sinister patience of their master, filling the room with an oppressive, hissing symphony as Anastasia considered her next move.

The group held their ground atop the table, glaring down at the Viper as he stood amidst the writhing sea of serpents, his masked face betraying no emotion beyond a faint, patient amusement. Anastasia narrowed her eyes, her expression sharp and unyielding as she spoke, her voice laced with irritation.

"Yer proposal's quite the pretty package, Viper, but I don't need snakes crawling up my legs to know a bad deal when I see one," she drawled, crossing her arms. "Protection, influence… those things don't come freely, and I'd bet my last coin yer 'alliance' would cost me more than it's worth."

The Viper tilted his head, his lips curving into a cold smile. "Ah, Lady Anastasia, I think you underestimate the risks of your current course," he replied smoothly. "Kagaragi is not Lugnica. Ambition here has… consequences. Surely, a savvy businesswoman like yourself would appreciate the value of a partner who understands these nuances."

Mimi, holding onto Anastasia's arm, scrunched up her face, her voice high and indignant. "Mama doesn't need you! She's strong, and so are we!" she declared, glaring at the Viper with surprising fierceness.

Tivey, nodding along, adjusted his monocle and chimed in, his tone surprisingly calm. "This offer doesn't seem fair, Mr. Viper. And, frankly, I think you're underestimating us."

Hetaro growled, his usually calm demeanor replaced by a fierce resolve as he looked down at the Viper. "We don't trust ya. If ya think ya can just trap us with yer snakes, ya've got another thing comin'!"

The Viper's gaze flicked from one triplet to the next, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You mistake my patience for weakness, little ones," he replied coldly. "I make this offer out of respect, not necessity."

Julius stepped forward, his hand resting firmly on the hilt of his sword as he met the Viper's gaze with a calm intensity. "Respect isn't something you can demand, Viper," he said evenly, his voice cutting through the tension. "If you truly respected Lady Anastasia, you wouldn't attempt to strong-arm her into an alliance."

The Viper's expression shifted, a hint of frustration slipping through his otherwise composed facade. He took a step closer, his voice lowering to a hiss.

"Think carefully, Lady Anastasia. My resources could make all the difference in your ambitions here. You could stand alone, but it would be… costly."

Anastasia's gaze hardened, her voice firm and unwavering as she gave her answer. "No," she said, her tone final. "I don't make deals with those who try to threaten what I've built. Yer offer's declined, Viper—clear as day."

The Viper's eyes flashed with anger, but before he could respond, the triplets sprang into action. Taking a step forward, they inhaled deeply, their voices resonating with a powerful, mana-infused energy.

"LEAVE!" they shouted in unison, their voices amplified with the force of their combined mana. The soundwave rippled outward, crashing into the masses of snakes like a physical blow. The serpents hissed and writhed, scattering and recoiling as the powerful voice blasted through the room. In a matter of seconds, the writhing sea of serpents was blasted away, reduced to only a few scattered stragglers slithering back into the shadows.

The Viper straightened, his cold eyes narrowing with fury as he clenched his fists, his patience finally snapping. "You've made a grave mistake, Lady Hoshin," he spat, his voice venomous.

But before he could react further, Julius was already moving, his sword drawn and his minor spirits shimmering around him like a protective halo. The air around him crackled with energy as he called upon the spirits, their presence filling the room with an ethereal glow.

Without hesitation, Julius launched himself at the Viper, his sword swinging in a precise arc as the spirits danced around him, amplifying his strength and speed. The Viper dodged, his movements quick and serpentine, but Julius pressed forward, each strike calculated and unrelenting.

The Viper retaliated, summoning shadows that twisted and writhed like living snakes, lashing out at Julius in an attempt to throw him off balance. But Julius's spirits shielded him, their light dispelling the dark energy as he advanced, his focus unbreakable.

Anastasia watched the battle unfold, her eyes sharp as she assessed every move. Her expression held no fear, only a quiet, steely determination as she kept the triplets close, ensuring they were ready to intervene if needed.

The Viper hissed in frustration, his elegant composure slipping as he struggled against Julius's relentless assault. "You'll regret this, Lady Hoshin," he snarled, his voice laced with venom. "I'll make sure of it."

Anastasia's gaze remained steady, her voice calm but resolute as she replied, "I'd love ta see ya try, Viper. Now get outta here before ya lose more than yer pride."

With a final, hate-filled glare, the Viper disengaged, his form retreating back into the shadows as he slipped away, his snakes scattering and slithering into the cracks and corners, leaving the room silent and still once more.

As the last of the serpents vanished, Julius sheathed his sword, breathing heavily but unharmed, his spirits dissipating as the tension finally eased.

Anastasia glanced around, her expression one of cool satisfaction. "Seems like that's taken care of," she murmured, giving the triplets a quick nod of approval. "Now we know just how desperate the Viper's gettin'—and we'll be ready for him next time."

Julius nodded, casting a wary glance at the door. "We'll need to stay vigilant. This won't be the last we see of him."

The group exchanged a final look, a silent agreement passing between them. They had drawn a line with the Viper, and though it had come at a cost, they knew they were ready to face whatever came next.

As the scene shifted back to Subaru and Beatrice, the two stood over Goro, who was now held in a state of suspended animation, his wild eyes frozen in shock and fury. The twisted alchemist hung midair, his body bound by dark tendrils of Yin magic—a technique Subaru had been learning from Beatrice over the past few days. He marveled at how far he'd come, feeling a surge of pride as he watched Goro's limbs and vials float uselessly, trapped by the dark aura encasing him.

Dressed in traditional Kagaragi-style clothing, Subaru grinned and turned to Beatrice, a mischievous gleam in his eye. "Beako, that was incredible! You're one amazing teacher, you know that?" Without waiting for her response, he swooped down, scooping the small spirit into his arms and lifting her into the air, spinning her around with infectious energy.

"Put me down, I suppose!" Beatrice huffed, her cheeks turning a bright pink as she squirmed in his arms. "This is highly unprofessional, in fact!"

"Unprofessional? But you're the best, Beako!" Subaru laughed, holding her up and giving her a triumphant grin. "You've been teaching me all these awesome spells—look at this guy! Suspended animation! How cool is that?"

Beatrice's flustered expression softened, though she still tried to maintain her usual indignant composure. "If I must admit… you've done well, I suppose. But there's no need for all this—ah!" she gasped as Subaru tossed her into the air once more before catching her, his laughter filling the air as she clung onto his arm, thoroughly exasperated but secretly pleased.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the smoldering square, Heinkel faced down a bloodied and battered Ryuga. The towering man was weakened, his breaths coming in ragged gasps as he glared at Heinkel with fury in his eyes. But Heinkel's gaze was cold and unyielding, his every movement precise as he approached his opponent with the grim focus of a seasoned warrior.

Ryuga staggered, attempting to lift his fists for another strike, but Heinkel had already moved. With one swift, brutal chop of his blade, he severed Ryuga's right leg just above the knee. Ryuga let out a guttural scream, collapsing as his leg gave way, but Heinkel didn't stop there. His blade swung again, severing Ryuga's other leg with brutal efficiency, leaving him writhing on the ground, his body immobilized, helpless.

Heinkel looked down at him, his face set in a hard expression, completely unfazed by the blood staining his blade. "Yer a real nuisance, ya know that?" he muttered, wiping the blade against his coat with a sneer. "Now, ya won't be runnin' off anywhere, big guy."

Ryuga glared up at Heinkel, his face twisted in rage and pain, but he could do nothing, his body thoroughly immobilized. Heinkel turned, walking back toward Subaru and Beatrice, his steps heavy and deliberate, leaving Ryuga lying in the dirt, defeated and broken.

As he approached, he gave Subaru a faint, satisfied nod. "Looks like you've been busy," he remarked, casting a quick glance at Goro's frozen form and Beatrice, who was now adjusting her dress with a flustered scowl.

Subaru grinned, setting Beatrice down gently. "Yeah, I'd say we make a pretty great team!" He threw an arm around Beatrice's shoulders, pulling her close. "And thanks to this little genius, we've got one less problem to worry about."

Beatrice cleared her throat, trying to regain her composure, though her cheeks still held a faint blush. "Yes, well, you could learn from my brilliance, I suppose… but perhaps with a little more dignity next time, in fact."

The three of them exchanged a look, a sense of shared victory hanging in the air. They had faced down some of Kagaragi's most dangerous foes and come out on top, but they knew this was only the beginning.

As Subaru dusted himself off, his gaze drifted casually toward the crumpled form of Ryuga lying in the dirt, the beastly man now a bloody and broken figure. Subaru blinked, as if only just remembering, and blurted out, "Oh yeah… right." A grin flickered on his face as he recalled his Authority of Pride [Strides Eye] the portion of the ability to judge and retain power—a power he seldom used but understood deeply.

With a steady breath, Subaru walked over to where Ryuga lay immobilized, his sharp, calculating gaze settling on the defeated warrior. Kneeling down beside him, Subaru paused, his face momentarily softening as he studied Ryuga's battered, tanned frame—clad in dirt and caked blood, his once formidable strength now drained.

Subaru extended his hand, placing his palm gently on Ryuga's right arm, his expression serene as he closed his eyes, feeling the faint hum of his Authority flicker to life within him. For a few seconds, silence hung between them, only the crackling of distant fires breaking the stillness.

In an instant, Ryuga's body shimmered, his skin hardening and fracturing into glimmering turquoise crystal shards. The effect rippled outward from the point where Subaru's hand touched him, transforming every inch of Ryuga into a breathtaking but fragile crystal form. With a faint, almost musical sound, the crystallized remains crumbled, scattering into the air like shards of shattered glass, the fragments catching the light in a dazzling but haunting display.

Behind him, Heinkel watched the transformation with a faint, surprised look. He arched an eyebrow, his rough features hinting at a flicker of interest before he shrugged it off, dismissing the spectacle with a casual wave of his hand.

"Ya know, kid," Heinkel muttered with a smirk, tucking his sword back into its sheath, "sometimes ya really give me the chills." He let out a huff, dusting off his coat. "But whatever that was… I think I'm in need of another drink."

Subaru gave him a playful grin, brushing his hands together as he stood up. "Guess I've got a few tricks up my sleeve too," he quipped, glancing over his shoulder at Beatrice, who observed the scene with a mix of pride and curiosity.

"Well, looks like that's the last we'll see of him." He gave Heinkel a nod. "Drinks are on me when we're done here."

Heinkel merely shrugged, a faint grin playing at his lips as he walked off, muttering, "Yer buyin', then yer drinkin' too."

With their foes subdued and the immediate threat dispersed, the raven youth, spirit, and disgraced knight exchanged a look, a lingering satisfaction from their victory hanging in the air. But as the calm settled, a new question dawned on them—where was Halibel?

Subaru furrowed his brow, glancing around the wrecked square, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of the shinobi. "Hey… where's Halibel?" he murmured, a sudden unease prickling at his skin. "He was right here before all of this."

Beatrice's eyes narrowed, her usual composure giving way to concern. "For Halibel to be gone without a trace… that's unlike him, I suppose."

Heinkel, finally breaking from his half-hearted thoughts of a drink, looked around with a hint of worry. "The wolf? He's not one ta disappear on his own—he'd be here if he could." His voice carried a strange undertone of dread, as though he'd never truly considered the possibility that Halibel could be hurt, much less defeated.

The three of them moved carefully through the debris, picking their way through overturned crates and shattered remnants of Goro's machines, calling out Halibel's name. Their search led them to a quiet corner behind the remains of a wall, where they finally found him.

Halibel was leaning against the broken stone, his usually formidable frame weakened and bloodied. His breathing was labored, and one hand pressed against his side, where blood seeped through his clothing, staining his fur and pooling on the ground around him. The sight was shocking; the ever-calm, unshakeable shinobi—Kagaragi's strongest, the Wanderer feared by all—had been bested, and at the very least, gravely wounded.

"Halibel!" Subaru exclaimed, rushing over with Beatrice close behind. Subaru knelt beside him, his face etched with disbelief. "What happened? Who… did this?"

Halibel managed a faint, wry smile, his golden eyes holding a flicker of humor even in his pained state. "Guess I'm not as invincible as they thought, eh?" He chuckled softly, though it quickly turned into a grimace as he winced, clutching his side. "Yuna… she caught me off guard."

Subaru's expression darkened as he remembered the assassin's swift, calculated attacks from earlier, and how close she and Halibel seemed. "Yuna?" he repeated, incredulity mixing with anger. "But… she's strong, sure, but to leave you like this?"

Halibel nodded weakly, a hint of sadness passing over his face. "She's always been skilled… and this time, she went all out. Got me with one of her shadow knives. I knew she was good, but…" He trailed off, his eyes distant. "Didn't think she'd actually do it."

Beatrice frowned, her small hands glowing as she prepared to summon healing magic. "Stay still, I suppose! We'll patch you up." Her voice was uncharacteristically soft, filled with concern.

Heinkel knelt beside them, his own disbelief clear in his eyes. "Yer tellin' me you got taken down? The Halibel I know would've had her on the ground before she could blink," he said, half-joking, though the worry in his tone was unmistakable.

Halibel gave a tired smile, shaking his head slightly. "She's different now… but I'll be fine. Just need a bit of rest." He looked away, his expression briefly pained. "It was more than just a fight for her."

Subaru, trying to mask his own worry, put a hand on Halibel's shoulder. "Don't push yourself, alright? We'll get you back to the inn, where you can rest and get back to your usual mysterious, grumpy self."

Beatrice, her magic already working to ease his pain, nodded. "This won't heal instantly, but it'll hold for now, I suppose."

As the healing light glowed over Halibel, he closed his eyes, letting out a soft breath. The strongest warrior in Kagaragi, brought down by one of his own—but he was still alive, still standing with the help of those who believed in him.

As Beatrice focused on healing Halibel, her small hands glowing with magic as she worked to ease the wolf shinobi's wounds, Subaru stood beside Heinkel, his mind racing with questions about what had just happened. He glanced at Heinkel, who seemed to be nursing his own thoughts, his gaze locked on Halibel with a mixture of curiosity and disbelief.

After a moment of silence, Subaru spoke up, his voice quiet but filled with curiosity. "Hey, Heinkel… this Yuna person. Halibel seemed to know her pretty well, didn't he?"

Heinkel grunted, crossing his arms as he looked back at Subaru, his gaze thoughtful. "Aye. That wasn't just some enemy from the shadows. Ya don't fight like that if ya don't got history." He paused, scratching his chin. "And I'd wager it's a history that didn't end too well."

Subaru raised an eyebrow, looking down at Halibel, who was still unconscious but breathing more steadily as Beatrice worked her magic. "Yeah… and that attack. It wasn't like Halibel at all to get hit like that, especially from someone he knew was after him. I don't think she was outright stronger than him," he said, voicing his thoughts aloud, "but maybe… maybe Halibel let his guard down because of her. Like he had a weak spot, something personal."

Heinkel's gaze sharpened as he considered Subaru's words, his eyes flicking back to Halibel. "Yer onto somethin', kid. Ain't every day ya see the top shinobi in Kagaragi take a hit like that. And if she was close to him… well, that can mess with a man's instincts. Make him hesitate when he shouldn't."

Subaru nodded, his mind piecing together the scene he'd witnessed. "Yeah. He hesitated. Maybe he saw her as more than just an opponent. He cared about her, even if he didn't admit it. And that split-second vulnerability…" Subaru's voice trailed off as he realized the weight of his words. "That's all it took."

Heinkel sighed, looking down at Halibel with something like sympathy. "Aye. Doesn't matter how strong ya are—ya let someone get close, and they'll always have the power to hurt ya. Halibel might've thought he was done with her, but turns out she had a way to get to him that no blade could match."

Subaru shook his head, feeling a pang of sadness for Halibel. "It's hard to watch someone like him get hurt like this. He's always seemed so… untouchable, like nothing could faze him. But it's like you said—everyone has a weak spot. And I guess for him, it was Yuna."

Heinkel nodded slowly, a flicker of understanding passing over his rugged face. "The strongest folks always got somethin' they're protectin', kid.

Sometimes it's family, sometimes it's honor, and sometimes it's the memory of someone they couldn't save." He paused, his tone softening. "Guess fer Halibel, that memory's a bit more alive than he'd care to admit."

Subaru looked at Halibel, a newfound respect and understanding dawning in his eyes. He might have been Kagaragi's strongest, but even he wasn't immune to the things that haunted him.

He glanced at Beatrice, who was finishing up her healing, and let out a quiet breath. "I just hope… whatever happened between them, he can find a way to make peace with it. Otherwise, this kind of vulnerability might be something he'll never fully shake."

Heinkel gave a faint nod, his gaze settling on the unconscious Halibel. "Aye. Let's just hope he's learned his lesson. 'Cause Kagaragi's a hard place fer the soft-hearted. And if she comes around again… he might not get a second chance."

On the rooftops beyond the blaze, a slender figure sat perched at the ledge, her legs swinging playfully over the edge as she watched the fires below with a serene, almost childlike glee. Her violet eyes glinted in the glow of the flames, a soft smile gracing her lips as if she were admiring the beauty of the destruction spreading across the city. She rested her chin on her hands, observing the scene with a detached calm, the chaos below seeming little more than an elaborate performance for her private amusement.

For a few quiet moments, she remained there, completely absorbed in the sight of the billowing smoke and flickering flames.

Then, without warning, a faint rustle sounded behind her, and she sensed a presence approaching—a soft but unmistakable rhythm of footsteps that seemed almost reverent in their approach. She didn't turn around, her smile widening ever so slightly as she waited.

"Ahh," came a voice, gentle but fervent, dripping with an unsettling adoration. "What might you be doing up here, so far from the heart of the devotion below?"

The voice belonged to a woman wrapped in bandages, her eyes shining with a feverish intensity that seemed to devour every detail. Her movements were graceful yet hesitant, as though approaching someone sacred. She tilted her head, her gaze locked intently on the girl perched at the edge of the rooftop.

Without looking back, the girl shrugged casually, her voice light and unaffected. "Just watching," she replied, her tone soft and lilting. "I like to see how people respond to a bit of fire. It tells you a lot about them… how far they'll run, how close they'll come to the flames." She chuckled softly, her legs still swinging as she gestured vaguely toward the burning scene below. "It's like they're all part of one big game."

The bandaged woman's expression turned almost reverent, her wide eyes glinting with admiration as she moved closer, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. "Oh, but it's beautiful, isn't it?" she murmured, her voice trembling with awe. "All of them, bound together by their suffering, by the flames that consume them. It's… pure. It's love, in its rawest, truest form."

The girl tilted her head, finally glancing back at the bandaged woman, her expression mildly amused. "Love, is it?" she asked, one eyebrow raised. "Interesting way to see it."

The bandaged woman, her gaze never leaving the girl, nodded fervently, a near-worshipful gleam in her eyes. "Yes! Yes, don't you see? In the flames, in the chaos… that's where true connection lies! Bound by shared pain, by the wrath that links us all." She took a step closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "And you… you must understand that better than anyone."

The girl watched her with a small, bemused smile, her eyes glinting with something unreadable. She didn't respond, instead turning her gaze back toward the flames, her expression unreadable as she resumed her silent observation.

The bandaged woman's smile grew, her gaze never leaving the girl as she spoke softly, almost to herself. "Ah, yes… you understand the beauty of it all. I knew it from the moment I saw you." She clasped her hands, as though in silent prayer. "Together, we'll witness the purity of it, the fury that binds us. A love that transcends even the heart."

The girl remained silent, her gaze fixed on the flames below, her expression as calm as ever. But there was a glint of amusement in her eyes—a faint flicker that betrayed her satisfaction with the chaos she'd sown, and perhaps even the strange reverence she'd inspired in her new companion.

The bandaged woman's smile grew wider, her eyes practically shining with admiration as she continued to watch the girl at the ledge. Her voice took on a reverent, almost musical quality, weaving in and out of its own rhythm as she spoke.

"Oh, but surely you know… there's a beauty in understanding, in witnessing, in being the eyes that see, the hands that feel! So I must wonder, so very curiously… why are you up here, dear one? Why watch from this height, away from the heart of the devotion below? Is it to see the world's love from afar… or is it something else?"

The girl tilted her head, a small, whimsical smile spreading across her lips as she finally turned to meet the bandaged woman's gaze. Her eyes sparkled with a light that was both innocent and eerie, a glint of uncontainable excitement that seemed to burn as brightly as the fires below.

"The stars sent me," she said simply, her voice gleeful and lilting as though she were sharing a delightful secret. Her smile deepened as she leaned closer, her gaze fixed intently on the other woman. "See you in Pristella!"

With a playful wink, she pushed off from the ledge, disappearing into the shadows as her laughter lingered in the air, a haunting melody that echoed through the night.

The bandaged woman—Sirius—stood there, her wide eyes watching the empty space the girl had left behind. Her smile softened, her hands clasping tightly together as she whispered reverently to herself.

"Yes… the stars, the fires… all paths are bound together, bound in suffering, bound in love…"

Authours Note:

So Subaru and the gang are almost done in kagaragi. Lets go over some stuff-Because the next two chapters are semi-huge.

To answer some of the comments: Subaru and Rem do eventually interact down the line. Right now Subarus is distracting himself from dealing with the whole emilia camp situation. Its not that he wants to directly avoid the camp in this case, but the boy feels almost let down. Since gaining the authority of Pride, Subaru is in a position where he can enjoy this new fantasy world to the fullest! Theres lots to discuss in coming chapters.

As for Strides eye working on Roswall. The way the ability works is that it judges the actions of the body rather than that of the soul. Anything physical in the context of this verse includes memories as part of the brain. Roswall, all things considered is a terrible person. But he hadn't done enough awful things yet in this life to over turn the balance. I'm not sure if that bursts the balls of the ability but i'd rather call it a balancing act as I don't want our protagonist to just one shot some of the major villains in the series?

Nextly, the introduction of this shadow women is too spice up the narrative, while she plays an interesting role in this arc. I intent to make her true identity clear soon enough as she is mearly a facade for a cannon character. All things considered I hope you enjoyed this chapter and whatever is next to come!
