Chapter 11

Charlie knew Prince Teague was lying– at the very least not being completely truthful. So he must be covering for her with their parents. His sister clearly didn't like him at all. Why would she go to the Fate's Palace ahead of time? Prince Teague must've seen her sneaking out last night before dawn.

When Mina gets back he should tell her Prince Teague isn't too bad because he helped her. His little hand curled into a fist as he nodded his head resolutely before turning around and running off to play.

Teague left quickly after. Shifted into a griffin and flew back home. Halfway through the Crooked Swamp where nixies lure unlucky fae and humans alike to their deaths. A girl in a green dress confidently walked through the soft mud. Her hair reflected with golden streaks and her arms decorated with matching accents of gold only the current siren Princess would have.

He flew down ahead of her and watched her walk through the mud. Why would she run away in the wrong direction?

Val glared slightly at the man upon her with open disgust and annoyance. Teague, she gritted in her mind. 'I hope that brat is rotting by now' Val thought. If she didn't get lost halfway through the journey back she would've been able to wreck the siren's underwater palace and taken their Prince captive as a trophy.

"Leaving so soon? You don't have to go, I've already covered everything for you back home." Teague explained, walking away before turning back towards her.

"Coming?" he lifted a brow in mild irritation.

Val smiled painfully, "I would love to but I know my…family must be worried yes" she said with slight unsureness.

Teague scoffed "Come, I doubt they'll notice and if they do they'll understand. After all it was their arrangement, why would they be surprised at all?" he rolled his eyes as though it was obvious before continuing on his path.

Val followed behind him with a fire burning in her eyes. Is he always this hard headed? The walk to the palace was filled with silence. The tension was bearable for now, but the view. Val's eyes shimmered with greed beyond revenge. The palace practically towering over them. Oh how beautiful it would be as her new territory!

"Mina?" Teague asked, looking at her with a slightly cold expression. Val glanced back at him with mild interest turning her eyes back to admiring the palace and its glory.

"Yes? Teague my dear?" she hummed, her plans changing. She would indeed handle this engagement for the brat. As for the other one… she'd have to figure something out.

Teague blinked his brows furrowed for a second, a flash of unknown emotion on his face before going back to neutral. "Magnificent isn't it? Others can't fathom yet even dream about being able to own such a thing. Pity really…" he walked through the gates as the guards opened them wide for their arrival.

The palace doors followed after showing the gold and marbled designs surrounding the structure. Val practically screamed in greed, Teague was blabbering to her but she didn't care much until a guard ran up to them with an urgent message.

"My Prince," he greeted by putting his hand over his chest and giving a slight bow, "there are some things your parents wish to discuss with you." The guard spoke, glancing at the girl and back to the young man.

Teague nodded, turning back to Val. "I won't be long, as for your needs the guards will listen to your any requests Mina." He smiled a not-smile. With a glance to her lips he walked away leaving her alone.

Val made a pleasing noise before walking around noting where guards roamed and where they were stationed admiring and practically lusting with greed over the different artifacts standing in glass cases in the hall she walked. She felt alarmed suddenly, as though someone was burning holes into her back. Standing still in front of one case as she felt eyes on her, hoping to catch them off guard she turned swiftly. Shuffling in her kitten heels on high alert she tries to glance around to find the culprit.

From far away Johnny was passing through before noticing a familiar head of hair pausing for a second to see if it truly was who he thought. The day had come so soon. They would meet again. And this time, he'd follow his heart.

"Summon the Pixie", Maeve commanded the Royal guards beyond the great doors to the throne room. Beyond them the purple haired pixie walked in and curtsied.

"My Queen, you've summoned me."

"Yes. How is the progress of your investigation of the runaway jewelry makers in the human realm. Your prince's marriage is set and they shall create the best jewelry for he and his wife." The pixie glanced up slightly.

"My Queen, I've been working with the Godmothers, our investigation thus far shows that they've all been kidnapped or killed."

"All?"

"Yes."

"Hmm. And their leader?"

"They're unknown still. We believe it's the one who murdered the young-" Ever was cut off.

"No. The Godmothers' leader, who is it?"

"They do not trust me enough, my Queen." Queen Maeve looked down at her from the dais.

"They are no fools. Continue working with them until you find out who controls them or who has taken all the jewelers. Who knows what can come from the magical items they create."

"My Queen, I believe I have a piece of jewelry made by one of the craftsmen." Ever hoped this would be a breakthrough. It was a chance since everything about Mina was suspicious.

A guard nearby held the wrapped charm and carefully presented it.

Ever's nerves shot up as Queen Maeve looked at the charm with an unreadable gaze. "This is not their work. Where did you find it?"

"I found it on a half-ling who washed up in the human plane. She retains no memories and only a single nickname."

"Oh?" Maeve raises her eyebrows uninterested. "Quickly give it back to her. If she isn't dead yet, she will be soon if she's weak."

"Why?"

"This is a magical charm that comforts the soul and heart. She will be in terrible pain without it."

Ever frowned.

"What else does it do, Mother?" Teague wasn't interested in the half-ling who was half dead and was very interested in the magical charm.

"True love. It forces an emotional connection and can manipulate the mind of the one wearing it and the one who touches it into falling in love. Though temporary at the beginning, it will evolve after their first kiss. And no other will be able catch their gazes." His mother explained. The ends of her lips lifted slightly.

"May I be excused?" Ever panicked.

"Go child." With the charmed firmly in her hand, Ever wanted to fly out of the Fate's Palace as soon as possible.

"I'll walk you out." Teague stood up, eager to escape back to Wilhelmina. They had made it through half the halls when servants scattered, some half beaten to death but were ignored.

"My prince." Princess Wilhelmina walked over, staring at Ever with open hostility. She smiled at him greedily. He wished she would smile at him with possession before but he felt extremely uncomfortable.

"Who is this?" She asked. "I'm his Fiancée, Princess Wilhelmina."

"Ah, yes. The half- human half-siren 'Princess.' I'm a time traveler." Ever smirked and rolled her eyes. "And I'm going to be late if I don't leave now."

Teague's Fiancée was a strange one. During their engagement ceremony she had clearly disregarded Him in front of everyone. Moreover she looked quite similar to Mina on the human plane.

Mina was also strange recently. At the beginning she couldn't understand why Nan cared so much. But she figured it was a human thing. Nan was very caring. If it wasn't for Nan she wouldn't have helped Mina at all and let her figure out how to survive on her own. Ever hoped Nan wasn't the first to touch Mina's charm.

That's why she went to the Godmother's and asked them for this favor. She would owe them a debt. The Godmothers were the babysitters of the Fae on the human plane. They helped them adapt. She asked them to personally step in and take Mina in without revealing anything to her until she figured it out herself. Nan had begged her for 3 hours in the hospital to help. And so she did.

She sighed softly before grabbing the tube and cutting through the planes.
