"Is she really the Wicked Witch of The West?" Lily asked, turning back to Zelena.
Emma got a car for Regina, Robin and Roland, and now she, Lily and Zelena were waiting in the yellow bug. It was late, 9 pm, Emma was a little bit worrying about how Regina would drive five more hours back to Storybrooke.
"Yes, I'm. And who are you? Cinderella's ugly stepsister?" Zelena raised her eyebrow.
Lily didn't mind her bully. "If we spill water on her, will she die?" Lily looked at Emma. Zelena scoffed.
"No, if so, she would be dead by now." Emma said.
"The Savior became brave. Should I remind you of the last time when you were humiliated on Main Street of Storybrooke?" Zelena asked.
"No, you can shut your mouth, Zelena. To be honest I tried to understand what your plan was overall. You pretended to be Marian, you let me bring you back to Storybrooke, you almost died because of the Snow Queen and after you lived with a strange man just make your sister jealous. I met a lot of villains, but you are the most horrible of all. You are a psychopath, not a villain."
"Oh, thank you." Zelena grinned. "Well my original plan was to seduce Robin and maybe get pregnant from him, but I think he is… you know he has some problems with that thing."
"Ouch!"
"Yucky." The women reacted at the same time, so they chuckled.
"I envy your confidence, Zelena." Emma sighed and shook her head. "A guy just didn't want you and you believe he is impotent."
"Well more precisely, he doesn't want his wife." Zelena corrected her. "But should I explain to you the simplicity of being a man?"
"No please, I don't need sexual education from Margaret Hamilton." Lily snapped. Emma laughed quietly.
—
Before they set off, Emma asked Regina if she felt well enough to drive that long. Regina nodded, but as she got to the car she saw Robin's face. He heard Emma's question and he was worrying. Regina didn't want him to worry. She wanted him to focus on his problems and his son. So when they were sitting in the car already, she started asking questions from Roland. About his life in New York, what he likes, what he didn't like, what was his favourite thing to do.
"Mama sometimes let me eat ice cream. It was not so good, like at home." He said.
Regina almost chuckled. Henry said ice cream in New York is way better than in Storybrooke. It looked like this question was a matter of attitude.
After forty minutes on the road Roland fell asleep. Robin turned to him and tried to cover him with his blanket. The little boy still squeezed his monkey, despite the toy looking like a dog chewed it. Regina promised him to fix it as soon as they arrived at Storybrooke.
For a few minutes there was silence in the car. Regina didn't know what she should say to him, and maybe Robin felt the same way.
"I still can't believe this." Robin sighed. He chose the safe topic. "How could I be this idiot?"
Regina shook her head. "It is not your fault."
"Actually, when we were in Storybrooke and Marian returned. Little John said something to me. Not for me more precisely, but to Emery and he told me. John was talking with Marian about some memory from the past and she missed her own friend's name. John believed it was odd and Emery was laughing at him, he called him paranoid. I just didn't care about them at that time, but…" Robin chuckled. "I think I need to listen more to John and his gossip."
"I know, Robin. But who on earth was thinking about that? You could explain Marian's memory and her behavior that she was far away for thirty years."
"Thank gods, I couldn't even look at her, not…" He didn't finish his sentence.
"You don't have to speak about that part." Regina said quickly. She was not ready for this. In addition she still didn't know what she wants for Robin or what Robin wants. They need a proper talk about their situation when Regina tells him about the baby, but this time is not the perfect one for this.
"I never touched her, Regina. Never." Robin said.
Regina nodded.
"What about you, milady? Something is wrong, I see it in your eyes."
"Nothing, I was just worried about you and Roland, that's it. We had a long journey to get here and Emma… I'm worrying about her also."
"And she worried about you too." Robin said.
Regina sighed, but she didn't say anything. Robin placed her hand on her thigh but he should've been unsure so he pulled away after a second.
"Sorry." He whispered. "I'm just… I've missed you."
"And I you."
"I know this voice." Robin said. He smiled at her sadly. "There is a but…"
"No, Robin, you misunderstood it. There is something we need to talk about indeed, but I don't think that is the right time. You just lost your wife and…"
"I lost my wife thirty years ago." Robin interrupted her. "You scare me, Regina, please tell me what happened."
"Robin, we'll go home safely, we will arrange that psychopath witch and we'll talk about everything, I promise."
"I only care about you. We are here now, together, we are safe and you can tell me everything, you know." Robin said.
He is hopeless, Regina thought. They were still far from Storybrooke.
Regina cleared her throat.
"Well… It's a little bit difficult. I… When you left Storybrooke… I mean after you left the town I started feeling unwell." Regina started, she felt like an idiot. Why was this so hard for her?
"Was it because of magic? Someone cursed you?" Robin's voice was full with worry.
"No." Regina shook her head. "Do you remember when you were talking about our future child in the Enchanted Forest? You were kidding but I… Well I responded as I always do, in a horrible way."
"No, that was a really dumb joke." Robin said. "I was an idiot."
Regina smirked. That night she was sure that he was not an idiot as he reacted to her freaking out.
"I told you I can't have children."
Robin nodded.
"Yes."
"Well, it looks like I was wrong." Regina said.
"Are you pregnant?" Regina couldn't see his face. She was keeping her eyes on the road.
"I'm."
Robin ran through his hair and chuckled, but Regina couldn't decide if this reaction was a good or a bad one.
"It looks like the worst day of my life turned into the most wonderful one." He said.
Regina looked at him for a short time, he was smiling at her.
"How long…?" Robin didn't need to finish his sentence, Regina understood it.
"Eleven weeks. She'll be born in February."
"She?" Robin asked immediately.
"Well, it's an other story, but I have a feeling, yes."
Robin sighed, he was still watching Regina.
"I don't know if I'll ever be able to tell you just how much I love you, but I will spend the rest of my days trying."
Regina smiled, but pretended she was occupied with the driving. Yes, she loves him also. With all her heart, but now everything is so difficult.
—
"I think you really should've killed me when you had the chance." Zelena said when she arrived at her new home, the hospital's basement, the asylum, as everybody called it in Storybrooke. Emma announced she wouldn't bear her company at the sheriff station, so she couldn't stay behind the cells. In addition, last time she escaped from there. They needed a safer place.
"You can't run away this time, Zelena, with that cuff, you don't have the magic either."
Zelena looked around, she was still smiling.
"Lovely place."
"Let's clear something up. Last time, I promised you I'll crash your heart into pieces if you mess with me. You got a second chance and you didn't want to live with that. This situation is temporary. Until we find out what we should do with you." Regina explained.
Zelena chuckled. "You went soft, sis."
"You just wish for it."
"You really get everything in your life, don't you?" Zelena asked.
Regina raised her eyebrow.
"What was this for, Zelena? Why did you do that? You went back in time, you could easily kill me somehow or make a mess with the timeline. You really had to kill that innocent woman for your low cabaret?"
Zelena smirked. "Robin loves you in some way, but he never chose you. Actually he chose me… hmmm… let me see it… two times."
"It was not you, witch. It was his wife." Regina corrected her.
"Does it matter? Is that your happy ending? A man who deals with you as a second choice?"
"You know nothing, Zelena."
"I do. I do know more things than you believed. Whatever he is talking to you about us he is lying. Because men are like this."
"Enjoy your new home." Regina looked at her with an evil grin. She closed the door and put a spell on the room. Her sister can't get out of here.
—
Whatever he is talking to you about us he is lying. Zelena's words repeated itself in her head. As they got into the car in New York, Robin's almost first sentence was he didn't touch Zelena. Why did he feel it's important information? They haven't seen each other for weeks. Zelena pretended she was Robin's wife. Maybe there was something between them. Regina spilled the forgetting-potion into Roland's hot chocolate. They were at Granny's, celebrating defeating the Author and Gold.
"Here you are." Regina said Roland, who looked at her with a large smile on his face. He was really happy because Regina had already fixed his monkey.
Robin, his son and Henry were sitting at the same table, Regina sat down next to her son.
"Thank you." Roland clapped his hand in his excitement and started to drink his hot chocolate. He got a brown mustache from the syrup but looked really satisfied as he finished it. For a half second the effect of the potion was visible on his face. He was staring at the table and shook his head, but afterwards he was smiling again.
"Yesterday Lucas said he had a monkey too." Roland said. Robin sighed in relief and wiped his face with a napkin.
"Really? But I'm sure it's not cooler than yours." Henry smirked at him. Roland shook his head.
"Henry, do you wanna play outside?" Roland asked.
"Definitely." Henry chuckled. They always get out of the diner together. Roland adored Henry as a big brother, he always wanted to spend time with him. Just the two of them.
"Put on your coat and don't go far." Robin told Roland.
"Oookay." Roland answered.
After they went away, Robin took Regina's hand on the table.
"I asked Will to look after Roland tonight. Can I take you for a moonlit night, milady?" He was smiling.
Regina just nodded.
Robin chuckled and caressed her hand gently. "Are you tired?"
"Yes, a little bit." She said, looked away shyly and pulled away her hand. Robin frowned in confusion.
—
The night was peaceful and calm. The lake was a mirror to the moon, Regina noticed how amazing it was, but Robin didn't respond. They were almost speechless as they walked to the lake.
"You don't have to act like everything is okay." Robin said when they sat down on a bench. "I've seen it on your face since I came back."
Regina was staring at the lake, she tried to find the perfect words.
"I know I screwed up everything, Regina. I know. I made the biggest mistake of my life. You have to know I was suffering in New York, I… sometimes I wished to be just dead. I felt miserable and alone and…"
"Did you?" Regina interrupted him. "Did you feel alone with your wife and son?"
Robin opened his mouth, but Regina didn't let him speak.
"I was alone, Robin. You promised me in the Enchanted Forest to never hurt me. I didn't want a relationship because I actually knew what would be the end and I was right. You left me twice. Marian returned, you said to me you are in love with me, but you had to choose your wife because of your honor. After that you suddenly appeared in the vault, you used me and left me again."
"I didn't use you. How could you say that?" Robin asked. He was shocked because of Regina's words.
"What do you call it when a man visits some woman other than his wife for his pleasure?"
"I'm in love with you, Regina. I've loved you since I laid an eye on you in the Enchanted Forest. I made a terrible mistake but when you appeared at my door and when you told me you are pregnant I felt the happiest man alive. Every day in New York was getting a meaning."
Regina sighed, tears appeared in her eyes.
"These are beautiful words, Robin. But words."
"You told me leaving Storybrooke is Marian's only chance." Robin said.
"Yes, I know." Regina snapped at him. "But you just approved it. You didn't even fight for me. Never once!"
"I was fighting for you for months in the Enchanted Forest." Robin's calmness was really irritating for her.
"Yes and after you laid me wasn't it worth fighting for me anymore?"
Robin shook his head. "You know precisely that is not true. You are my future. Yesterday evening, when I was finally home again, I was thinking of how I would ask for your hand."
"Because I'm pregnant?" Regina asked mockingly.
"No. Because you are the meaning of my life."
Regina looked into his eyes for seconds. Robin tried to caress her face, to wipe away her tears, but she pulled away.
"Henry and her." She placed her palm on her belly. "They are the meaning of my life. And I won't let you break my daughter's heart if your honor will call you away again."
"I'll never do that. She is my daughter too. I'll protect and love her…"
"... for the rest of your days?" Regina finished his sentence. "Like you said to me at the Missing Year?"
Robin didn't say anything, just stared at her.
"She is your daughter, Robin, you can be a part of her life, I let you meet you everyday if you want…"
"What are you talking about?" Robin asked desperately. "What do you mean you let me meet her?"
"I… I got the most precious gift from you. I will never forget that, but that was the end of our story."
"No, no, milady, don't say that! Just let me prove to you I love you. Please, I can't live without you, I love you. Let me fight for you." Robin took her hand.
"I'm sorry. It's too late. I can't trust you anymore." Regina said quietly.
"What should I do? You can ask anything, I'll do. Please, don't do that to me!"
"No, Robin. I can't afford to suffer again like I did in the last three months."
"I love you." Robin said again.
Regina pulled her hands away and looked at the lake instead of into his eyes. "I'll have an appointment at the hospital on Wednesday. It will be an ultrasound, in this world you can see the baby with that. If you wanna come with me, you can…"
"Regina, look at me!" Robin said. He raised his voice a little bit, but he was still gentle. "Look at me, milady and say to me you don't love me anymore."
Regina sighed and turned to Robin. "It's not about that…"
"Say to me, you don't love me. Say it, and I swear I will leave you alone."
She took a deep breath, opened her mouth and wanted to say something. She loved him with all her heart. Forever. But she couldn't say that. Her life was easier before him. Horrible but much easier. She was free in some way, she didn't love anybody just Henry and it was so simple. It'll happen again. Just Henry, the little girl from her dream and her.
"I…"
"Regina!" It was Emma. She was almost running to them. Regina whipped her tears away. She stood up, Robin followed her.
"I'm sorry to disturb your date, guys, but we have a big problem." She panted as she arrived.
"What happened?"
"Gold… The Dark One's power left his body." Emma said.
"What? He died?" Regina asked.
"Not actually. He is in a coma. But the dark magic got loose in the town. We have to stop it."
"How can we do it?" Robin asked immediately.
"The Apprentice said we have to find the Sorcerer." Emma answered. "But…" The wind interrupted Emma. It was cold, freezing and full of darkness. It was really around the town.
"Where are the others?" Regina asked impatiently. She was thinking of Henry. She had to find him.
"At the Main Street. I was looking for you."
—
"Have you seen it?" Emma asked when she, Regina and Robin returned to the others. Mary Margaret, David and Killian were standing in the middle of the street.
"It just disappeared into the night." Mary Margaret said. "But it feels like…"
"Yeah, I know. It hasn't gone anywhere. The darkness, it's surrounding us."
The town became ominously quiet. Regina looked around, she also could feel that inexplicable darkness. It was like a stone on her chest. Once she just saw it in the sky. It approached her. The next thing she heard that Robin called her name. He was shouting desperately. The darkness caught her, circling around her body.
"What's it doing?" Robin asked Emma.
"What darkness does. It's snuffling out the light."
"I'm not gonna let it." Robin tried to run to her and somehow freed her, but the power pushed him away as soon as he got close to it.
"That's not gonna work on this thing!" Emma shouted. "The Apprentice told me we have to do what the Sorcerer did. We have to tether it to a person to contain it." She started walking to Regina.
"Emma!" Mary Margaret knew exactly what her daughter had planned.
"No!" Regina shouted immediately. She was still fighting with the darkness. "There has to be another way."
"There isn't." Emma shook her head. "You've worked too hard to have your happiness destroyed. And I won't let it to harm your child."
"No!" It was David, Emma turned to her parents.
"You figured out how to take the darkness out of me once. You need to do it again. As heroes."
"Emma, Emma, please don't do this." Hook grabbed her arm.
Emma looked into his eyes.
"I love you." She pushed Killian away and dipped her hand into the darkness. The power found its new aim, curled up on Emma's hand, after that on her whole body. She didn't see the street, her parents, her love anymore, only the darkness. Her soul and body was full of terror. The power of the Dark One lifted her, it was circling faster and then just disappeared. It took Emma with itself. Only the dagger stayed, it fell to the concrete. Everyone could read the name on it: Emma Swan.
Dear TempeGeller, thank you for your amazing reviews, I was so happy when I saw them. :)
Well Zelena is not pregnant in my fanfic, I didn't like that cliffhanger in the show and to be honest I also didn't like Zelena, so maybe Margot/Robin was cute, we'll have another cutie here :) Hope you'll enjoy the new chapter!
