Fainting — chapter 34
A month later, Edward, Elizabeth's mountie friend, or rather, her brother, was assigned to the neighboring town, only an hour and a half away, and he started going there on all his days off to see his sister and his nephew and new niece Alien. Edward's parents visited Elizabeth too, and they became friends again after Charles' trial, after which forgiveness and many conversations made them friends and a new family, just as Philip wanted. Edward's parents were sure that if their Philip were alive he would be married to Elizabeth, because he loved her too much, so much so that he died to save her life. Today, thank God, she was happy. Everyone knew that both Jack Thorton and Philip wanted her to go on happily.
The town came together and built a beautiful wooden house for Nathan Elizabeth, it was on Jack's land, the one he had bought to build a beautiful house for his wife. Elizabeth was so happy with the new house that her love for Nathan and the town only grew. He made all Elizabeth's dreams come true, he wanted all her dreams to come true. The school was going very well, all the children loved hearing about their teacher's marriage to the policeman. The pupils loved to call her Mrs. Thorton Grant, they felt she had the two best mountie with her. The months flew by and everything was going wonderfully for everyone.
Eight months later, Rosemary found out she was pregnant. Lee was overjoyed and had already told her sister Elizabeth that she would be the godmother and guardian of her baby with Nathan. The town threw a big party to celebrate Hope Valle's new baby. Time passed and hope resurfaced. This town had already suffered many losses, from the miners to Jack Thorton and they had almost lost their teacher and their son.
A few days later, Gab married Lilian and she set up an orphanage in Hope Valle. Happiness only grew.
Faith had a beautiful baby girl with light eyes and blonde hair just like hers, and Carson couldn't contain himself with happiness. No one could have imagined the emotion of a doctor on the day he examined his wife and discovered that she was pregnant, But they saw that Carson, in his day-to-day rush with his patients, hadn't noticed anything, so Faith played the sick man and when Elizabeth was there helping Carson, he felt the baby's heart beat strongly as he examined her, tears welled up in his eyes and, unable to say anything, Carson could only hug Faith and Elizabeth.
Elizabeth had been feeling dizzy for days, whenever she got up quickly the ground seemed to slip away from her. She hadn't been to Carson yet, because she knew he was rushing around with the arrival of his baby, and she also knew that it was the tiredness of all that running away that was getting to her. Today at school, a Monday, after a weekend of rest, was the second time this had happened to her, but Elizabeth thought it was because she wasn't eating well.
— Teacher, are you all right? asked Opall.
Without an answer, she saw Alien asking too:
— Mom! Mom, what's wrong with you? You look so pale; Mom!
And a hollow sound was heard in the classroom as Elizabeth fell to the floor unconscious.
— Robert! Get my father now, and run... shouted Alien.
— Mom, wake up. Alien, Opall, Emily and the other children were crying quietly, holding Elizabeth's head in Alien's lap.
Nathan and Gab ran into the school, Lee was already waiting in the car on the school steps. Nathan looked at his wife lying unconscious on the floor, totally drained of color, and his heart raced. His daughter and the children were very worried about her and Nathan even more so; he took Elizabeth in his arms and ran with her, while Gab broke up the lessons and asked the children to go home. Carson was already waiting outside the infirmary with Abigail.
After examining her, Carson saw that she was very dehydrated; there were still problems with her diet from when she escaped. After she woke up and a few questions were answered and some tests carried out, it was discovered that she was pregnant with twins and that the heartbeat and small movements already felt by the baby in her belly showed that she was twenty weeks along, or perhaps twenty-one weeks. She lay there taking IVs, while Carson gathered outside with her husband and his friends. At this point there were already several people there, so Carson called them into the café and warned everyone; that now everyone needed to be careful with Elizabeth, after all they were his friends, but that he as a doctor and friend was even more concerned. Nathan didn't understand anything, but Carson asked him to calm down.
At the café, he was joined by Bill, Aunt Elizabeth and Wynn, Frankison and Dee, Lee and Rose, Clara and Jesse, Gab and Lilian, Henry, Lucas and Fiona, Abigail and her husband Frank, the pastor, Tom and Charlote and Nathan.
— Nathan, I'm sorry to gather you all here like this, I know she's your wife, but this is a matter of life and death and you're going to need help now. Besides, she's our friend and family and this concerns everyone who loves her.
Nathan was pale and anxious. Charlote came up to him and comforted him, asking him to calm down.
— Calm down, Nathan, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that you're going to be a daddy, and you're going to be the daddy of twins, my friend. Shouts of congratulations were heard as Nathan cried with emotion and hugged everyone there.
— But..., but... There was a long silence in the café room.
— But she has her health problems, her weakness from more than ten days on the run without eating or drinking. Today she's dehydrated to level two, saying that at another level it would be extremely serious... another thing is that the babies are eating her up, you've seen how thin she is, but she's twenty weeks or twenty-one weeks pregnant.
The men looked at each other without understanding. Then Aunt Elizabeth shouted:
— Four months pregnant with twins? No belly at all, my God...
— That's why I called everyone here. She told me that she's been feeling dizzy for three months or more, but today she felt dizzy until she fainted due to dehydration. I need everyone to take care of her now, we can't lose the three of us.
Nathan went on to say that he would take care of her, but Carson interrupted:
— I know, Nathan, we all know that. But you see, she's stubborn, so if we all help you, we'll get results faster. Besides, I don't think it will be that easy. It's not just a question of getting her to eat or rest, the problem is how her body reacts to all this.
Everyone was worried. Nathan went to the infirmary and when he saw her on the IV, all pale, tears rolled down her cheeks. Faith patted him on the shoulder and told him that everything would be all right. He mentally thanked God for the true friends that both he and Elizabeth had found in that city.
