Episode 433: The Grand Underground

Before we begin, I would like to announce that I have given it a whole lot of thought. I decided to go along with the Hisuian Pokémon appearing in the wilds after all. But in a recent review, I decided to scratch the Mount Coronet idea and just go with the Grand Underground idea as honor to the Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Legends: Arceus games. As for Legends: Z-A, let's wait until after we get more info. Anyhoo, it may give you a series of surprises coming your way. Just thought I'd bring it up before we got it underway. And enjoy!

After saying their goodbyes to Barry, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel continued on their way to Veilstone City for Sora's fourth Gym battle in Sinnoh, so they came to a nearby town, Emeragrove Town, to do some shopping for some supplies before they took off for the road once again. They bought some potions, antidotes, and other medicines for the Pokémon as they bought some food and some other things for their journey. Once they had bought the supplies they needed, they proceeded to take their leave.

Up ahead, the local kids gathered in a schoolyard as they surround Gardenia who has come to visit.

"Look, it's Gardenia from the Eterna City Gym!" One little boy said.

"Hi, kids! How are ya?" Gardenia asked.

"That's great! You sure sound great!" Gardenia said.

A few seconds later, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel come on by and they spotted the Eterna City Gym Leader in the schoolyard.

"Hey, look! It's Gardenia!" Kairi said.

"Who would have thought we'd see her out here of all places?" Sora asked.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.

"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.

Deciding to say hello to Gardenia, the couple approached Gardenia.

"Gardenia," Sora said. Hearing his voice, Gardenia saw Sora and she smiled.

"Sora, Kairi. It's been a while! How are you?" Gardenia asked.

"Just fine, Gardenia. Just been busy traveling around. I can see you're doing the same thing," Sora said.

"Yeah, I have," Gardenia said.

"What brings you here, Gardenia?" Kairi asked.

"I'm glad you asked. I'm here promoting Pokémon battling all over the area," Gardenia said.

"I think that's a great idea, Gardenia," Sora said.

"Me too. It's a sure-fire way to inspire a future generation of Pokémon Trainers," Kairi said.

"I'm glad you think so," Gardenia said with a smile. She sets her attention to the kids. "You see, kids, Sora here is a Trainer who challenged me in my Gym and he earned a Forest Badge from me."

"It's true. And here it is," Sora said, showing the kids his Gym Badges.

"Wow, that is a Forest Badge," a random boy said.

"He has to be really good if he already has three Gym Badges," another boy said.

"So, you're heading for Veilstone City, for your fourth one, huh?" Gardenia asked.

"Yeah. We came by to pick up some supplies before we go back on the road. And since you love Grass-types so much, there's someone I know you'd love to meet," Sora said, taking out Snover's Pokéball and opened it. Snover came out from inside. Gardenia instantly tackled into Snover.

"Oh, such an adorable little Snover! So cool to the touch, but super cuddly!" Gardenia exclaimed, cuddling the Frost Tree Pokémon. Snover felt weirded out having some random stranger cuddling him like that. "Oh, Sora, your connections with Grass-types never fails to amaze me!"

"Thanks," Sora said.

"And since you're here, I thought we should have a battle right here. I wanna see your Snover in action," Gardenia suggested.

"After we had our battle back in your Gym, I can see you're not one to back down even with at a disadvantage, so why not? I'm game," Sora said. Gardenia turned to the other kids.

"What do you say, kids? You wanna watch the battle between me and Sora?" Gardenia asked.

"Yeah!" The kids all said, anxious to see the battle. Sora and Gardenia got into position, and Kairi was acting as the referee for the battle.

"The battle between the Gym Leader Gardenia and Sora is about to begin! Each Trainer will be using only one Pokémon with no time limit. The battle will be over when either side's Pokémon cannot continue battling! Now that we have the ground rules out of the way, we can begin!" Kairi announced.

"Okay, Snover, you're going in," Sora said.

"Snover!" Snover said.

"And I'm going with Turtwig!" Gardenia called out when she took out a Pokéball and threw it. Her Pokéball opened and her Turtwig came out to battle. "You wanna make the first move or should I?"

"You go ahead, Gardenia. You made the challenge," Sora said.

"Thanks. Turtwig! Leaf Storm!" Gardenia ordered. Turtwig unleashed a Leaf Storm and sends it right at Snover.

"Okay, Snover! Use Powder Snow!" Sora ordered. Snover fired a Powder Snow, freezing the leaves in it. "Alright, use Ice Punch!" Snover moves in to deliever an Ice Punch onto Turtwig.

"Turtiwg! Bite! Go!" Gardenia ordered. Turtwig heads towards Snover to land a Bite onto him. Turtwig successfully lands a bite onto Snover.

"Powder Snow!" Sora ordered. Snover fired Powder Snow, hitting Turtwig. The Tiny Leaf Pokémon lets Snover go. "That was great! Use Ice Punch!" Snover lands an Ice Punch, landing a freezing punch.

"Turtwig! No!" Gardenia gasped.

"How is that Snover able to hit Gardenia's Turtwig like that?" One boy asked.

"It's because Snover's an Ice-type Pokémon, so Grass-types are weak against Ice-type attacks," a girl said.

"Okay, use Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Snover fired a Razor Leaf, hitting Turtwig on the mark, resulting in a knockout.

"Turtwig is unable to battle! Snover wins! The winner is Sora!" Kairi announced.

"That was a great battle," Gardenia said, calling back her Turtwig. "Your Snover is not only cute, but strong, too. You should be proud, Sora."

"Thanks, Gardenia. Your Turtwig is just as strong as ever," Sora said.

"That's very kind of you, Sora. And after seeing your Snover, it made me want to want one," Gardenia said.

"Well, I wish you the best of luck with that," Sora said.

"Thanks," Gardenia said. They shook hands after a good battle they had. Gardenia didn't even care if the scoreboard between them was one-sided.

Not too long after that, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel took their leave, waving goodbye to Gardenia and the kids. As they kept walking? the came across a man wearing an explorer outfit. With him are two Pokémon that neither Sora or Kairi have ever seen before.

One is a slate gray, fox-like Pokémon with red and black accents. Its ears are triangular with dark insides, and it has a large tuft of fur tipped with red on top of its head. It has greenish-blue eyes with red eyelids. There are circular, red markings above the eyes that resemble eyebrows. Its muzzle is short and tapered with two small fangs seen in the upper jaw when its mouth is open. It possesses a ruff of black fur around its neck and four short limbs tipped with red. Its tail is short and bushy. This Pokémon is known as Zorua.

The other one is a bipedal, slate gray, fox-like Pokémon with crimson and black accents. It has a pointed snout and ears with red insides. It also has some red that rims its eyes and mouth. The Pokémon has a large, red, voluminous mane with black tips, tied into a ponytail, as a teal bangle down its length separates a mass of the mane from the lower portion. It has a black ruff on its upper body, pointed at the shoulders from which its arms extend. Its upper arms are thin, whereas its lower arms, while still slim, are bulkier. The arms have spiky extensions of fur at the elbows, and it has red claws on its hands and feet. Its eyes are red-rimmed with light blue irises. This Pokémon is known as Zoroark.

The man is carrying a map in his hands and he checks it.

"I see. The entrance to the Grand Underground should be around in this area. Now, where do we look? Any ideas, you two?" The man asked. The two Pokémon just shrugged. "Oh, confound it, I knew it would be too easy. But i shan't give up so easily, eh?" Zorua and Zoroark nodded. He then noticed Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel walking by them. "I say, a Pikachu and an Eevee! Pokémon Trainers no doubt! I believe they can be of help. What say you, lads?" Zorua and Zoroark grunt in agreement with the man. "I thought as much, friends." He then approached the couple. "Excuse me, children!" The couple stopped and faced him. "I'm terribly sorry for bothering you, but I proposition for you if you are willing to lend a hand, please."

"Sure thing, man. Just how can we help you?" Sora asked.

"You see, I am an explorer, and I am in search for the entrance to the Grand Underground," the man said.

"The Grand Underground? Why would you wanna look for that?" Kairi asked.

"I am glad you ask, my dear. You see, I am making it my lifelong mission to explore the world of Pokémon and make every discovery as possible. And I believe there is a world of Pokémon literally beneath our feet right this minute," the man said. Zoroark growled, grabbing their attention. He picked up on it. "Oh! I do believe you are right. Please forgive the delayed introduction. My name is Doctor Liam Blake Cunningham. And these are my faithful assistants, Zorua and Zoroark."

"My name's Sora, and this is Pikachu," Sora introduced.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"I'm Kairi, and this is Angel," Kairi introduced.

"Eevee, vee," Angel said.

"A pleasure," Dr. Liam said. Sora and Kairi took a good look at Zorua and Zoroark.

"Oh, a Zorua, huh? Such a cutie," Kairi said.

"Yeah, and Zoroark looks cool," Sora said. The couple took out their Rotom Phones to scan them.

Zoroark, the Illusion Fox Pokémon

The evolved form of Zorua

There are many stories that surround Zoroark. It is said that those who attempt to catch Zoroark ends up enduring punishment in an illusion.

"Neither Zorua and Zoroark are native to the Sinnoh region," Dr. Liam said.

"When you said that there are some Pokémon beneath our very feet, what kind of Pokémon do you mean?" Kairi asked.

"Eevee?" Angel asked.

"An excellent question that deserves an answer. There are different kinds of Pokémon that cannot be found in Sinnoh, along with Pokémon that once inhabited the land of Sinnoh back when it was known as Hisui. From what I can gather, the Pokémon in question happens to include Zorua and Zoroark, but in their Hisuian forms. The same can be said for Braviary, Sligoo, Goodra, Avalugg, Lilligant, Growlithe, Arcanine, Voltorb, Electrode, Qwilfish, and Sneasel. And there are rumors of Basculin with white stripes. And there are whispers of Basulin, Sneasel, Qwilfish, Stantler, Ursaring, and Scyther to have these evolved forms," Dr. Liam said.

"You mean Sneasler, Ursaluna, Wyrdeer, Overqwil, and Kleavor?" Sora asked.

"Yes. But I am asking if you would help me search for that entrance," Dr. Liam said.

"Well, if they're right beneath us like you said, then it would be too good to pass it up," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"It would be a thrilling experience," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"I was hoping you would accept. Let us get started straight away," Dr. Liam said. He leads the couple to his camp where there are other Pokémon there as well.

One is a plant Pokémon that resembles a plant bulb, such as an onion. It is primarily light green. Its head is tipped with three oblong leaves. Its crescent-shaped white face, seemingly lacking a nose or mouth, has brown eyes shaped like elongated ovals. A green "bib" is present on its neck, and its lower body consists of five stubs. Another is a small avian Pokémon with a blue body. A large white plume of feathers covers its head and three tail feathers extend from its lower back. The feathery ruff extends down past its neck, covering the upper third of its body. Its face is blue with five pointed tips, resembling a mask and crown in contrast to the white feathers surrounding it. Extending from its forehead is a large feather, which is red on the lower half and white on the upper half. The split between the two colors on the feather resembles a zigzag pattern. Its beak is short and wide, with large eyes on either side. Each eye has a thick black iris with a small white pupil. Its yellow legs and feet are large in comparison to the body. Each foot has four digits: one backwards, and three forwards. This Pokémon is known as Rufflet.

Another is a large, avian Pokémon with dark red feathers on its back and dark blue feathers on its underside. Its tail feathers are red, turning to yellow, and then blue at the tips. Its legs are long and thick with yellow feet that each have a digit facing backward, and three facing forward. Each digit is tipped by a short, thick, black claw. It has a long, thick beak with a blue cere. On either side of the cere are its eyes, which are black with small white pupils. Sprouting from above the eyes is a crest of three long, white feathers. At the base of the feathers is a red, W-shaped design that is spread across all three feathers. On each side of its face, sprouting out from behind the feathers on its forehead, are an additional three white feathers pointing horizontally and downward. Behind the three feathers on its head is a large mane of white feathers, draping over its neck. Combined, these features resemble a Native American war bonnet. This Pokémon is Braviary.

There are two green aquatic Pokémon that comes in two They each have a green, ovoid body, tapering off in the rear to a trapezoidal tail fin. A thick black stripe covers the top of their bodies from mouth to tail and a white, dorsal fin with four protrusions resembling spikes. Their lower jaw juts ahead of their upper jaw, with a small indent near the edges of their mouth. Both Pokémon have three black dots on both sides of their bodies, behind their pectoral fins. Along the dividing line of the two colors are five large, green spots. The front part of this line is its mouth. On top of its head are two pairs of antenna-like horns; the hind pair is longer than the front pair. This Pokémon is Goomy.

Another is a Pokémon that resembles a snail. The lower half of its body is light purple, while the upper half is a paler purple. It has featureless, green eyes, a single, tiny eyelash over each eye, and two pale green spots on each cheek. It has nubby, underdeveloped arms. On top of its head are two pairs of antenna-like horns; the front horns are small nubs, while the hind horns are considerably longer. Its gelatinous body forms a spiral shell-like structure on its back. This Pokémon is Sligoo.

Another is a bipedal, draconic Pokémon that is coated with slime. Most of its body is pale purple with a darker purple underside. It has bright green eyes, two green spots on each cheek, a relatively long neck, and a short, rounded snout. On top of its head are two pairs of antenna-like horns. The foremost horns are small nubs, but the hind horns are longer, thicker, and curve down its neck. The tips of the larger horns are slightly curled. It has proportionally short limbs with two digits each and a large, thick tail with a curled tip. Along each side of its tail are three green spots. A pale green slime is usually visible dripping from its chin and arms. This Pokémon is Goodra.

Another is a quadrupedal Pokémon with a white, round body and nubby legs. Its upper half is encased in a slightly transparent, pale blue chunk of ice. Its eyes, which are yellow with purple rings surrounding them, are visible through the ice. The ice itself forms a large triangle with smaller spikes on its forehead and hind end. This Pokémon is known as Bergmite.

And the last Pokémon is a massive Pokémon covered almost entirely in semi-transparent ice. Through the ice on its head, diamond-shaped, yellow eyes are visible. Its head is wedge-shaped with a white diamond-shaped ice chunk on each side in place of ears, a dark chink in the ice over each eye, a crack just before the tip of its snout, and a beard of short icicles. The top of its body is flat with three horizontal cracks along the surface and there is a collection of icicles along its belly. Its legs are cylindrical with cracks just before its foot and in-between its toes; underneath each toe is a spiked claw. Pale purple colorations can be found on the insides of its cracks. "None of these Pokémon can be found in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh," Sora said.

"That is correct, young Sora. The Pokémon you see here all originate in the Unova and Kalos regions. I have been doing my share of research on them, and I brought them along with me," Dr. Liam said.

"Well, it's awesome to be able to see them," Sora said.

"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said.

"Anyway, let's get to work on looking for that Grand Underground entrance," Sora suggested.

"A capital idea," Dr. Liam agreed.

With that said, Sora, Kairi, Dr. Liam, and the Pokémon got started on the search for the entrance to the Grand Underground. They have searched for what seems to be like hours until they felt the ground underneath them opened and they fell right through. They stumbled on in and they found themselves to be underground.

"Where are we?" Sora asked.

"My word! The Grand Underground! I've found it at last!" Dr. Liam said.

"Wow, it's amazing," Sora said.

"It's extraordinary! Come, we have places to explore," Dr. Liam said. They all complied and ventured through the Grand Underground and they looked around. They have arrived to a rocky area and there are some Rock and Ground-type Pokémon all around, but there are some Hisuian Growlthe as well. One of the Hisuian Growlithe came and attacked.

"A Hisuian Griwlithe!" Sora said.

"I got him!" Kairi said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Bibarel! Go!" Her Pokéball opened and Bibarel emerged from inside, ready to battle. Growlithe came at the Beaver Pokémon with a Fire Fang. "Aqua Tail!" Bibarel smacked the Scout Pokémon with his tail, sending him back. Growlithe then unleashes Rock Slide, hitting Bibarel on the mark. "Bibarel! Water Gun!" Bibarel fired Water Gun at Growlithe, taking him down. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. The Scout Pokémon flowed inside and the Pokéball began to wobble around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks her if she wants to keep her new Growlithe with her. She chose to send her new Growlithe to Professor Oak's lab. "I just caught a Hisuian Pokémon."

"Eevee, vee!" Angel said.

"Nice one!" Sora said.

"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu said.

"Thanks," Kairi said, blushing.

"Very impressive," Dr. Liam said.

After catching Growlithe, they kept on moving on forward and they came to a watery area. In the area are Basculin. These Basculin has a similar appearance to the other two forms of Basculin. Despite itheir descriptors, the stripes above their eyes are actually a very pale shade of light blue, as are its irises. Its pectoral fins are smooth like Blue-Striped Basculin, but larger. Their dorsal fins are spiky and it has wide eyes, like Red-Striped Basculin. Their lower jaw are smaller than the jaws of either Red- or Blue-Striped Basculin, and both its lower and upper jaws have beak-like protrusions at the front.

In the water as well are large, green, fish-like Pokémon. It has a jagged mouth with pointed teeth. Its spine is aligned with a dark gray line, with colored stripes that flank it on either side and extend around its gills, along with spots scattered across its body. These accents are red in some, and light blue in others. Their eyes also match the appropriate color, and they look fierce on the red accents and drowsy or sad on the white accents. They each have a pair of white pectoral fins, a three-spiked dorsal fin, and a two-spiked ventral fin. Additional smoke-like features cover their faces in a manner resembling barbels; the white accent ones sport shorter ones and lack the two small fins that the males have on their chin, instead having more blue markings around their lips and eyes. These Pokémon are Basculegion.

"Those are Basculin, but what are those?" Sora asked.

"Those are Basculegion, the evolved form of the White-Striped Basculin. The ones with the red accents are males, and the ones with the white accents are females," Dr. Liam explained as Sora took out his Rotom Phone to scan the White-Striped Basculin for information.

Basculin, White-Stripe Form, the Mellow Pokémon

Type: Water

They live in frigid seas, forming schools and sharing food among themselves. When the time comes, they return to the river they were born in.

"Now, let's get info on the Basculegion," Sora said.

"Right," Kairi agreed, taking out her Rotom Phone and scanned them along with Sora.

(Sora's Rotom Phone)

Basculegion Male, the Big Fish Pokémon

The evolved form of the male White-Striped Basculin

Type: Water/Ghost

It can jump with incredible power. Parts of its body are tinged red by the rage of its fallen friends.

(Kairi's Rotom Phone)

Basculegion Female, the Big Fish Pokémon

The evolved form of the female White-Striped Basculin

Type: Water/Ghost

It can afflict a target with terrifying illusions that are under its control. The deeper the sadness in its friends' souls, the paler Basculegion becomes.

"The Basculegion are our targets," Sora said.

"You're right. I'll take the girl one, you take the boy one," Kairi said.

"Fine with me. Let's do this thing," Sora said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Okay, Turtwig! Come on out!" His Pokéball opened and Turtwig came out to battle. Kairi took out her Pokéball and threw it.

"Drifloon! Go!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéball opened and Drifloon came out to battle. Both Basculegion rose up and attacked with Shadow Ball. "Drifloon! Use Ominous Wind!" Drifloon blew an Ominous Wind and it blew away the female's Shadow Ball.

"Turtwig! Dodge and use Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Turtwig dodges the male's Shadow Ball and fired Razot Leaf, hitting him. "Use Bite!" Turtwig lands a Bite onto the male Basculegion. The female Basculegion then attacks with Aqua Jet.

"Drifloon! Use Gust!" Kairi ordered. Drifloon blew a Gust, hitting the female Basculegion. "Use Shadow Ball!" The Balloon Pokémon forms a Shadow Ball and sends it right at the female Basculegion, hitting her.

"Turtwig! Use Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Turtwig fired another Razor Leaf, hitting the male Basculegion on the mark.

"Use Shadow Ball!" Kairi ordered. Drifloon fired another Shadow Ball and hits her opponent. Sora and Kairi each took out a Pokéball. They threw their Pokéballs and the Basculegion they've set their sights on flowed inside it. The Pokéballs wobbled around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéballs to confirm the catch. Their Pokémon Boxes goes off and they asks the couple if they want to keep the Basculegion they've caught. They sent their Basculegion over to Professor Oak's lab.

"Great job, Sora," Kairi praised her boyfriend.

"Right back at you," Sora praised his girlfriend. Kairi noticed a Hisuian Qwilfish in the water.

"Sora, I think there's something else, too," Kairi said. Sora turned to see the Hisuian Qwilfish.

"I got this one," Sora said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. The Pokéball struck the Hisuian Qwilfish, making it flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks him if he wants to keep the Hisuian Qwilfish with him. He chose to send the Hisuian Qwilfish to Professor Oak's lab.

"Impressive catch," Dr. Liam said.

"Thanks," Sora said.

With that said, they went back to exploring in the Grand Underground. They came to a fiery area and there were Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, and some other Fire-types as well as others such as Numel, Camerupt, Magby, Magmar, and Torkoal. They made it passed the Fire-types and explored to a grassland area next. And there are some Hisuian Voltorb there as well. Kairi got behind a boulder and threw a Pokéball, making the Hisuian Voltorb flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks her if she wants to keep the Hisuian Voltorb. She decided to send it to Professor Oak's lab.

Just when they were about to take off to explore some more, something unexpected came. It was a Lilligant, but different from the one Dr. Liam has with him. It has a more lithe build. Its head and torso are white and its wide hips are covered in light green leaves, with two small slightly darker leaves coming out from either side. On the left side of its head is a six-petaled pink flower with short filaments jutting out from it, and dark green leaves underneath it. The scent released from this flower causes anyone nearby to experience a heartened feeling. Its eyes are light pink and purple. The leaves on its head that resemble hair are much shorter than on the other Lilligant. The sepal around its neck is also smaller. The Lilligant's arms are green, with its forearms being a lighter green. They are much longer and thinner than those of the other Lilligant. It also has long, powerful legs, and they are white with a dark pink gradient at the calves.

"What is that?" Sora asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.

Lilligant Hisuian Form, the Spinning Pokémon

The evolved form of Petilil

Type: Grass/Fighting

There has been some research that suggests its well-developed legs are the result of a life spent on mountains covered in deep snow. The scent it exudes from its flower crown heartens those in proximity.

"That answers that," Sora said. Lilligant does a dance, building up both its attack and defense power. "Was that a move?"

"Yes. It's Victory Dance. It's the signature move of the Lilligant that lived in Hisui," Dr. Liam said.

"What does it do?" Sora asked.

"The user performs an intense dance to usher in victory, boosting its Attack, Defense, and Speed stats. Much like Quiver Dance performed by butterfly and moth Pokémon," Dr. Liam said. The Hisuian Lilligant comes toward them to attack. "Watch out!"

Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.

"Staravia! Come out!" Sora called out. His Pokéball opened and Staravia emerged from inside. "Aerial Ace!" Staravia lands a hit with Aerial Ace. Lilligant fought back with a Leaf Blade, landing a hit on the Starling Pokémon. "Acrobatics!" Staravia uses some acrobatic movements and struck Lilligant on the mark. "Use Wing Attack!" Staravia struck Lilligant with his wings before Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. Lilligant flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks him if he wants to keep his new Lilligant with him. He chose to send it to Professor Oak's lab. "Another Pokémon from Hisui caught."

"That was amazing, Sora," Kairi said.

"Thanks, Kairi," Sora said. Just when they were about to take off, a Hisuian Sneasel came to attack, but Sora took charge. "Acrobatics!" Staravia uses his move on the Hisuian Sneasel and sent it backwards. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it. The Hisuian Sneasel flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks him if he wants to keep the Hisuian Sneasel with him. He chose to send his new Sneasel to Professor Oak's lab. "Done."

Just then, they saw something fly above them. They saw it was a Braviary, but it looked entirely different. It's much larger Their legs and undersides feature dark grey plummage while white feathers extend across their back, wings, and tail. The Braviary's tail feathers are shaped like a jet. The crest of feathers above its beak and the red cere looks like it has evolved into a formation that appears to be purple flames adorned with two light blue eye-like markings, altogether resembling aviator goggles. The mane of feathers behind this formation has grown more voluminous and fans upward. Kairi took out her Rotom Phone and scsnned it.

Braviary Hisuian Form, the Battle Cry Pokémon

The evolved form of Rufflet

Type: Psychic/Flying

Screaming a bloodcurdling battle cry, this huge and ferocious bird Pokémon goes out on the hunt. It blasts lakes with shock waves, then scoops up any prey that float to the water's surface.

"Hisuian Braviary. So cool," Kairi said. The Hisuian Braviary then came down to attack as Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Pachirisu! Go!" Her Pokéball opened and the EleSquirrel Pokémon emerged from inside. The Battle Cry Pokémon came down with its wings emitting a purple aura.

"The Hisuian Braviary is using Esper Wing! It boosts up the speed status and it there's also a chance it causes a critical hit," Dr. Liam said.

"Pachirisu! Use Discharge!" Kairi ordered. Pachirisu fired a massive electric blast from his body, hitting Braviary. "Use Spark!" Pachirisu then dashed at Braviary with a Spark, but Braviary dodged and came down with a Crush Claw. "Discharge!" Pachirisu fired another Discharge, shocking the Battle Cry Pokémon. It fell on the ground hard. Kairi quickly took out a Pokéball and threw it. The Hisuian Braviary flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks her if she wants to keep the Hisuian Braviary with her. She chose to send it to Professor Oak's lab. "Caught another one."

"Man, you're on a roll, Kairi," Sora said. Kairi giggled.

"Really? I haven't noticed," Kairi said.

Sora, Kairi, Dr. Liam, and the Pokémon continued to explore the Grand Underground and they came to what looks like an underground swamp. And among them is a Sligoo, but different. This Sliggoo has droopy, teal eyes that imply its melancholic personality, and carries a metallic spiral shell that lies parallel to the ground. Unlike its the other Sligoo, it has one teal spot on each cheek rather than two. It tucks almost its entire body inside this shell, and will only let out its head, neck, and arms to peek outside. Kairi took out her Rotom Phone to scan it.

Sligoo Hisuian Form, the Snail Pokémon

Type: Dragon/Steel

This form of Sligoo has a form of melancholy. It is believed its metallic shell developed as a result of the mucus on its skin reacting with the iron in Hisui's water.

"After seeing him, I believe it," Kairi said. She took out a Pokéball and threw it at the Hisuian Sligoo, making him flow inside. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks her if she wants to keep the Hisuian Sligoo with her. She chose to send her new Sligoo over to Professor Oak's lab.

After catching the Hisuian Sligoo, they explored some more areas and then came across an icy area. There are some Snover along with some Pokémon that they hadn't encountered yet.

It is a large, bipedal Pokémon covered in shaggy, white fur. It has pale purple eyes with bushy eyebrows and long strands of fur covering its mouth. Two tufts of longer fur grow on both its back and chest. Its hands, feet, and tail are dark green and spiky, similar to the foliage of an evergreen tree. On its back are four green spikes that resemble pinecones. This Pokémon is known as Abomasnow.

There is also something else there. It was a Zorua with its fur being mainly light gray with red and white accents. Its ears are primarily gray with split cuts and a slight red tint at the tips. Its eyes have golden yellow irises and pink eyelids, and its limbs are tipped in black. The tuft of fur on its head, the ruff around its neck, and its tail are all white at their bases, with long wisps of fur that fade to red at the tips, and they are all smoother in appearance.

"Is that a Zorua?" Sora asked.

"It is," Dr. Liam said. Kairi took out her Rotom Phone and scanned it.

Zorua Hisuian Form, the Spiteful Fox Pokémon

Type: Normal/Ghost

A once-departed soul, returned to life in Hisui. Derives power from resentment, which rises as energy atop its head and takes on the forms of foes. In this way, Zorua vents lingering malice.

"Better catch him quickly," Kairi said, hiding behind a tree. She threw the Pokéball at the Hisuian Zorua before he noticed her. The Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks her if she wants to keep the Hisuian Zorua with her. She chose to send the Hisuian Zorua to Professor Oak's lab.

"Nice one," Sora said.

"Chu," Pikachu said.

"Thanks," Kairi said. Just then, a stomping sound is heard and they turned to see an Avalugg. It is noticeably smaller than Dr. Liam's Avalugg, weighing only half as much. Its entire body is made of brown stone, whilst its top, along with its head, are covered in a layer of solid ice. The head of this Avalugg is larger compared to the other Avalugg, and has two large gray tusk-like plates on its lower jaw. "Is that...?" Kairi took out her Rotom Phone again to scan it.

Avalugg Hisuian Form, the Iceberg Pokémon

The evolved form of Bergmite

Type: Ice/Rock

The armor of ice covering its lower jaw puts steel to shame and can shatter rocks with ease. This Pokémon barrels along steep mountain paths, cleaving through the deep snow.

"You want this one, Sora?" Kairi asked.

"No, you can take it," Sora said.

"How considerate of you," Kairi said, turning to Angel. "Okay, Angel, go get him."

"Vee," Angel said, stepping in. The Avalugg starts off by hurling chunks of ice at Angel.

"Avalugg's using Mountain Gale! It may cause an opponent to flinch when it hits!" Dr. Liam said.

"Dodge and use Iron Tail on the legs!" Kairi ordered. Angel lands an Iron Tail on one of the Avalugg's legs, dealing some damage. It attacks again with a Rock Slide. "Dodge them all with Quick Attack!" Angel jumps on the rocks and hops on them with Quick Attack. "Iron Tail!" Angel uses her Iron Tail and smacked the Avalugg right in the face, bringing him down. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. Avalugg flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off and it asks her if she wants to keep the Hisuian Avalugg with her. She chose to send the Hisuian Avalugg to Professor Oak's lab.

"My word, that was amazing," Dr. Liam said.

"As awesome as it was, how do we get out of here?" Sora asked.

"Oh," Dr. Liam said, realizing he didn't think his plan all the way through.

"Don't worry. I can help you there," a voice spoke.

"Who said that?" Dr. Liam said. In a flash of light, they make it back outside and back where they have been before, but it was now nighttime. "We're back precisely where we came to the Grand Underground!"

"Yeah, but how did we get back out like that? Who was it that helped us?" Kairi asked.

"I don't know, but at least we didn't end up being lost down there," Sora said.

"I completely agree. I suppose it's all for the best we never question it," Dr. Liam said.

Taking the doctor's word for it, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel decided to sleep in Dr. Liam's camp to rest after the exciting day they had. On the next morning, they woke up and decided to go back on their journey.

"Well, we should get going," Sora said.

"Thanks for giving us the opportunity to seeing the underground world of Pokémon," Kairi said.

"It is I who should be thanking you, my friends. I think I have gotten what I needed for my research, and it only inspired me to go on even further. And I have one more thing to give you before I forget. A little payment for helping me out. It's not much, but I believe you have much more of a use for it than I," Dr. Liam said, handing Sora a Razor Claw.

"A Razor Claw?" Sora asked.

"Yes. As the Sneasel in Johto evolves into Weavile whilst holding a Razor Claw during the night, the Hisuian Sneasel evolved into Sneasler whilst holding it during the day. And I'd wager you would use it on your new Sneasel when the opportunity presents itself," Dr. Liam said.

"You're right. I should hold on to it, so thanks," Sora said.

"Anytime. The best of luck for the both of you," Dr. Liam said as the couple took off.

Not only they witnessed an underground world of Pokémon, but they have come across Pokémon they never expected to catch in the modern world. But this new experience has widened the world of Pokémon even more for Sora and Kairi, and hopefully, the adventures to come would widen it even more as the journey continues.

I have originally thought of having Sora and Kairi wait until they go into Hisui to catch the Pokémon they had caught, but I decided to just to go ahead and do it now. Anyway, that'll be all for any Pokémon from Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, and Paldea for now. Thank you for your consideration.
