Rose's POV

"You sure seem in a happy mood." Monet commented as I walked into the room.

"That obvious huh?" I laughed.

"What's the special occasion?" Nami asked.

"Uta and I were just catching up, it felt so good to finally just talk with her after all this time." I smiled.

For a moment I felt a little bit of a pall come over the room.

"Oh, sorry." I said "I it's not very fun for you two to hear me gushing about spending time with my sister since you guys haven't seen yours in a while."

"It's fine really, I'm happy for you." Monet said fixing her glasses "Of course I wonder how Sugar is doing but I know she's happy and she wanted me to do this. Besides I told you I saw her in the paper."

"Oh that's right she was in the background of that picture from that big World Government meeting." I said "How did she even get in there?"

"Well it's not like she has a bounty, she looks rather harmless, though the government might have known who she was?" Monet hummed "I'm guessing she was there with Rebecca and Viola, hopefully staying out of trouble."

"Nojiko is fine." Nami waved her hand "She'd probably be pissed if she found out I was wasting time worrying about her."

"I have an experiment to handle." Monet got up "I'll see you later."

"See ya." I waved.

"What's Uta up to now?" Nami asked "I don't hear any singing so I'm guessing she's not practicing."

"No she's taking a break for now, she's trying to build her strength back up but I keep telling her she needs to do it slowly or she's going to hurt herself." I laughed "I think she was catching up with Luffy."

"She is?" Nami looked over rather suddenly.

I laughed a bit "They're old friends. Nothing out of the ordinary?"

"They were just friends right?" Nami asked.

"Well, Luffy was like six when Uta left so yeah." I smirked "Nami are you perhaps…jealous?"

"In your dreams." She said.

I looked out the window "Oh look Luffy is dancing with Uta."

"He is?"

"No, but I wanted to see how you'd react." I laughed "Nami I'm gonna give you some advice as someone who's been your friend for a while and been Luffy's even longer."

"Huh?"

"Luffy is Luffy, he will always be Luffy and nothing will ever change that." I smiled.

Uta's POV

"Oh good you're here." Wyper looked up from his drawing table.

He suddenly got up and started measuring my arms.

"Hmm longer than I thought." He said taking a pencil out of his mouth and scribbling something down.

"And what is it you're doing?" I asked.

"I can't make you anything if I don't know you're measurements." He said "You're gonna need to be able to defend yourself out here on the sea."

"I guess I hadn't considered it much, we didn't have many fights on Elegia since it was just me and Gordon and in the Sing-Sing world I can just summon what I need to fight." I suddenly pouted "Can't you guys protect little ole me?"

"You used that fancy armor and lance against those pirates." Wyper said "Maybe that could work…"

He started digging around some papers.

"There's this weapon on Skypiea, it's called a Heat Javelin." He explained "A regular lance with a heat dial in the tip that lets it shoot fire basically. No that doesn't feel right for you…it's not sound…sound…sound!"

He snapped his fingers "I've got an idea, come back later and I'll have it whipped up."

He then stared "Those."

"Those…my headphones?" I asked.

"Let me see them." He said "They don't fit right."

"Whoa slow down." I backed up "I know they don't fit right."

I sighed.

"What are you trying to do, these aren't toys they're…a gift from my parents. Shanks and Lilly got me these, I don't know…as much as I hated them for so long I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of them, they didn't fit well so I had to do my best to extend them as I got older."

"Yeah I can see that's why they're in tough shape." He said "I can fix, I won't break them I won't change their primary functions just give them the old touch up."

"I don't…"

"I will treat them with respect." He said "I promise, I'm a craftsman at heart but I understand sentimental value, and I know what it's like to be apart from the people you love and cherish the things they left you."

"Haa…" I sighed and reached up "Ok."

LATER

"Whoa Uta I can see your ears!" Luffy said.

"What's that supposed to mean." I laughed.

"Aren't those things supposed to be glued to your head, you're brain's not gonna fall out right?"

"Luffy that's not how ears work." Chopper said.

"I took them off so Wyper could repair them." I explained brushing my hair back "But your right it is weird not having them on."

"Here Uta these are for you."

"Pretty cool right? If you press these buttons on the side they even play music."

"No fair I want something too how come Uta gets a gift."

"Yeah me too!"

"Alright, alright calm down Steven I'll make something for you, and Rose your uncle already has something for you just wait till his next visit."

"Thanks for waiting." Wyper came up from below deck "I've completed my latest masterwork! But first."

He held out his hand "for you."

I saw him holding the headset, they looked shiny and new and the headband was no longer over stretched and strained it looked like it had been replaced with a new interlocking piece of metal and cushions.

"They look brand new." I gasped putting them on "They fit just right, how did you do this?"

"Just swapped out some of the old parts, buffed the rest." He shrugged "I've seen something similar before with tone dials on Skypiea so it was just a touch up based on that, now for my latest and greatest creation, the next weapon to conquer the grand line."

He pulled a sheet off a table and revealed a long lance and shield.

"Cool!" Luffy awed.

"I give you the Sonic Shield and Spear!" he held them up "on the surface they look like any old martial equipment but if you hold up the spear and press this button…"

He aimed out to see and clicked, suddenly a loud booming shockwave blasted out.

"An overloaded tone dial goes off and hits your foes with a sound blast and for the shield you press and-."

"RAAAAAA!" The shield vibrated with a loud heavy metal screech.

"Turn that this off!" I yelled.

"It's jammed!" he said "Ok this was just a prototype!"

"What's that sound it's deafening." Monet came out holding a beaker which shattered from the sound "So much for that experiment!"

"HMPH!" Zoro suddenly appeared and cut the shield in half, silencing it "You woke me up."

"This is when you finally wake up from one of those naps." Wyper grumbled "Asshole this was a prototype, well back to the drawing board I guess."

"Thanks for trying Wyper." I adjusted my headphones a bit "I'm not much of a fighter though."
