Chapter V

Itachi never denied that he was an admirer of Kakashi Hatake. The teenager had always gathered his attention and musings especially during the time when war was just a harboring of rumors from villagers lips.

As he walked through the Uchiha compound toward one of the many village training grounds he couldn't help but feel that someone was watching him. A couple of someone's.

They hadn't approached him with aggressive behavior but observed with a lingering curiosity.

As his brother was too young to understand spying he knew that it may have been someone of higher rank within the village or an enemy.

His kunai flew with precision to the nearest tree.

"That was highly inappropriate." Kakashi said while shifting Naruto onto his back. Her bright blue eyes filled with glee. "And after my dear little sister wanted me to invite you for some ramen."

Itachi winced at the implication.

Had he truly been off his game?

He looked at the tree once more with a heated glare. "Are you sure she wants me around?"

The idea of Naruto being harmed had of course crossed Kakashi's mind. But he knew what Itachi had been implying. "Are you saying that you're not willing to protect the Hokage's child with me?"

Itachi swallowed and looked at Naruto--her bright blue gaze searching. "No. It's just--"

Kakashi sighed. "You can bring Sasuke if you want to make it less awkward."

Sasuke. His little brother. The hope of the Uchiha clan.

"Alright," he told his mentor. "Just as long as there's pocky."
