Izuku woke up bleary eyed, groggily pulling himself out of bed. He remembered that Nejire had told him to bring a blanket and wear comfortable clothes. He checked the time. 6:35 AM. He needed to show up at the 3-A dorms at around 9.
Figuring he'd bother with the blanket and things later, he started to make his way downstairs.
His fingers absent-mindedly grazed the bandages on his neck, a grim reminder of yesterday. Yet despite that, he focused on the positive, refusing to let the... unfortunate nature of the outing deter him. He still had a date with his crush. 'Wait, is she still my crush? Or my girlfriend at this point? Ahhhhhhh I'll deal with that later.' Izuku panicked, slightly, as he prepared his breakfast.
At some point other members of his class came down, many giving symapthetic remarks whilst motioning to his bandages, but he just waved it off as a risk of being a hero student, and would probably face tougher situations as they got older.
Regardless, that didn't stop Bakugo from lecturing him (with a lot of swearing, much to Yaoyorozu's dismay), but with his friends around him and light conversation, time passed quickly and soon there was half an hour to go.
He excused himself, heading to his room and tying his favourite blanket up. It wasn't much, a light blue blanketwith small white lightning decals. Okay, it was decidedly not fashionable and he swears the colour is a complete coincidence but he liked it cause it was warm and fluffy (when his mother got it for him she said she chose it because it was "warm, fluffy and not afraid to be itself just like him." Izuku only stood the last part of that).
Having that ready, he changed into a plain shirt (that read 't-shirt'), comfortable pants and a simple green hoodie.
Grabbing his blanket bundle he made his way downstairs, nodding to Todoroki on his way when Iida spoke up. "Izuku! Where are you going?" The navy haired boy asked.
"Oh, uhh, to 3-A's dorms." Izuku responded, slowing his pace to stop before the navy haired boy.
"What for? And why in such casual clothing? It is not appropriate for students of 1-A to approach our upperclassmen in such a way!"
"..." Izuku thought for a moment, a little groggy still as he answered, "Iida, they're some of my closest friends. There's literally 3 kids after Aizawa-sensei expelled the rest. They'd probably just be offended if I showed up in whatever you want me to. So like, chill."
"Oh, dude, you're going to 3-A's dorms? Why?" Kaminari came up from behind, a phone in hand with Mineta tailing behind as well.
"Uhhh..." Izuku really didn't want to out his relationship yet, nor did he want to tell... those two of all people, "J-j-just to hangout with my f-f-friends."
"So why do you have a blanket?" Mineta piped up, his eyes gaining a... peculiar glint that Izuku was unable to place, "Are you going to-"
He was cut off by Todoroki freezing the boy and Bakugo rising and shooting a small explosion, the former saying something about protecting Izuku's innocence and the latter mumbling something about Izuku still being a terrible liar.
Izuku blinked, thanking the two and bidding farewell to them all as Iida stood aside and Yaoyorozu winked at him (much to his confusion).
Mirio was very amused, if a little confused. When Nejire came back from the hospital the yesterday, she came into the main room and told Mirio and Tamaki to go on a date all day today.
At the moment, Mirio was making breakfast after changing into casual clothing and began waiting for Tamaki to come out when, at exactly 8:50, Nejire came flying downstairs at incredible speeds, still wearing her pajamas.
She flew right by him, a rushed "Good morning!" yelled his way as she literally blew by him, the wind causing his hair to blow up slightly as she began prepping something in the kitchen. He couldn't tell what though, her hands were little more than a blur.
Mirio had blinked once before it clicked. "Date?"
"Yep! In the dorms since Izuku was attacked yesterday, did you hear? I'm pretty sure you heard, anyway so I'm taking over for it and everything needs to be perfect so he can be comfortable and we can have fun and be happy and-" Nejire began ranting.
"Nejire. Chillax a little, yeah?" Mirio cut her off, before it could go on any longer, "Izuku wants to do this with you. He likes you. As you. He doesn't care, I can tell you that for a fact, about what goes on so long as you are there." Mirio finished, squaring her to himself by placing his hands on her shoulders, looking at her in the eyes.
Nejire let out a breath and smiled at Mirio. He smiled back patted her on the shoulder, as she moved a little slower and a little more relaxed. Mirio chuckled to himself, recalling his own first date, after having had asked Tamaki out (half out of spite to beat Nejire, half because any reasonable human would know that Tamaki would not be the one to ask him out).
Flashback...
Mirio was very stressed. He had asked Tamaki out the day before, just to a nearby restaurant, not too far from U.A. The teachers didn't care too much (although Midnight was cheering something about youth when he asked if he could go out of school grounds with Tamaki for a date).
He had put on a semi-formal outfit and his best smile, as he waited nervously for his date to come down the stairs.
And it was well worth the wait. Down the stairs came Tamaki in a similar outfit, somehow it perfectly brought out the slight nuances of his muscles. Whilst Mirio was bulky muscular, Tamaki was lean. And that suit brought it out perfectly.
Fighting the rising blush, Mirio went up to his date and grabbed his hand, resulting in a blush and stammer from the other. "Alright, let's go!" He exclaimed, leading the two out of the dorms, off to the restaurant.
By the time they had arrived, they were walking hand-in-hand but Mirio had never hated a walk so much before. Well, that wasn't entirely true but he hated the atmosphere between them.
Somehow, with the advent of a partner relationship, a new weird tension had been introduced, and their former closeness and dynamic had dissipated.
And what replaced it was a weird, awkwardness that seemed to leave an unanswered question in the air. He wasn't really sure what it was or why, but he did his best to play it off like nothing and keep smiling as he opened the door to the restaurant.
"Mirio..." Tamaki started, his eyes averted, "You know you don't have to keep smiling, right?"
"Hahahaha!" Mirio laughed awkwardly, causing a few patrons to stare in confusion and Tamaki to raise his eyebrow, before Mirio sighed and let his smile droop a little, into a sadder, confused one.
"Is there something wrong? Are you regretting this?" Tamaki asked, causing Mirio to suddenly shoot up with a rare glint of anger and a common glint of determination in the blond's eyes.
"Whilst there may be something wrong, I do not regret this. I have liked you for a long time, and refuse to let this opportunity go!" Mirio proclaimed, and Tamaki gave a shy smile.
"T-thank you... sunshine," Tamaki muttered the last part quietly, blushed, and talked a little more, "B-but, what's wrong?"
"That's the thing!" Mirio said, throwing his arms up, "I'm not sure, but... there's something that... feels off? Does that make some sense?"
Tamaki thought for a moment, wistfully gazing at Mirio before responding, "I... feel it too. I feel tension, like something's missing, something I've been anticipating... but am not really sure what it is."
'Anticipating? I mean, maybe something to do with being first significant others to each other... hang on!' Mirio snapped his fingers, looking Tamaki dead on, and speaking. "I know exactly what it is!"
"Well?"
Now, Mirio thought for a moment. He could wait for the right moment, or do this right now. 'Ah to hell with it. Confidence!' "Come over here for a moment." Mirio said, gesturing for the black haired boy to do so.
Tamaki shrugged and did so, and stood next to Mirio, as the blond stood up.
And kissed Tamaki.
On the lips.
It was sweet and innocent, yet also a release of tension. It lasted no more than a second but felt like an eternity to the boyfriends. They both blushed and Tamaki quickly sat back down, but Mirio just chuckled, a weight lifted off his shoulders. And he could tell by Tamaki's slight smile but more relaxed shoulders that it was the same for him.
They had a much more fun date as a result.
...Flashback end
Mirio tapped Nejire on the shoulder as he saw Tamaki come down the stairs and told her a small piece of advice. Hopefully she was listening, (well, she nodded but it's hard to tell).
The boyfriends bid Nejire farewell, a muscular scarred hand grasping a leaner but undoubtedly strong one.
Nejire let out a sigh of relief as Tamaki and Mirio left, leaving her to finish her preparation. She loved the two like brothers, and some of the few friends she had. Most people were either in awe of her strength, or obsessed with her body. Someone like Izuku was a nice break, someone that (if what his classmates told her was anything to go by), probably had no clue regarding curves and very much liked her for her personality and bubbliness.
She giggled at the thought, floating slightly subconsciously. She brought the platter of various snacks over to the coffee table in front of the television, before floating upstairs to grab her laptop.
Grabbing it and quickly floating back downstairs, she shot a glance at the clock. 8:59. Izuku would arrive, literally, any minute. She plugged it into the TV, and loaded the episode they were up to. This episode was one about the principal of the school having had challenged the octopus teacher to a round of textbook questions.
Satisfied everything was set up, Nejire collapsed onto the couch, bobbing her head side to side. It shouldn't be long until Izuku arrived.
Izuku had finished talking briefly to Tamaki and Mirio, who were out for the day together. The two were fairly excited, (or at least Mirio showed it. Tamaki was... much subtler).
Mirio had given him some advice, but he... wasn't so sure about following through with it.
Regardless, he continued to the 3-A dorms, his breath speeding up and his hand shaking as he rung the doorbell. He did his best to try and steady both his breathing and nerves (unsuccessfully), waiting for the door to open.
And when it did open, it opened with great force. Izuku barely jumped back in time as it swing open right in front of his face. He gave a shaky smile to Nejire, who beamed a slightly shaky smile back.
"Izuku! You're here! I've been looking forward to this! Wait, is that too forward? Do you care? Do I care? Nope! Come in!" She said, grabbing his wrist and pulling him inside with a jolt.
Izuku blushed at the sudden contact but couldn't hold in his chuckle as she dragged him over to the couch and sat him down. She grabbed her laptop, gestured to the snacks, and played the episode.
Whilst they were still commenting on the episode as they watched, like they used to, they now sat at opposite ends of the couch to each other, occasionally shooting each other nervous glances, not entirely sure what to do. Izuku sighed, Mirio's advice long forgotten.
Nejire sighed. It had been a couple episodes since they started but the awkwardness stayed. She thought back to Mirio's advice and excused herself to go to the bathroom. Izuku paused the episode and gave a smile that she couldn't help but smile back to.
She looked at herself in the mirror, having had splashed stingingly cold water on her face (and definitely not regretting it. Nope, not in the slightest.) in an attempt to build her confidence. It only kind of worked.
Drying her face and hands, she decided she'd just try Mirio's advice. What was the worst that could happen? "Well, he could end up hating me, he could run away, he could cut the date short, he could-"
"Who could do what?" Izuku's voice sounded from outside the door, concern prominent in his voice.
"Uhh nothing!" Nejire called back quickly, "Why are you here?"
"W-well, it's been twenty minutes so I started getting worried..." Izuku said, laughing nervously.
"Wait really?!" Nejire was concerned, checking her phone, "Oh my gosh! I am so sorry, I was just... lost in thought I guess..."
"Do you want to talk about it?" Izuku asked, and sat against the bathroom door, she heard the slight thud and saw the shadow there. Nejire thought for a moment before responding, "I-I guess."
She took a deep breath, and started, "I suppose that... I just don't know what to do sometimes. Like, I'm at the top of the school yet I feel lost and isolated. I'm meant to lead, but have no idea how. I can't even do this date right!" Nejire sighed, leaning against the door as well, feeling tears well up, "I-I'm sorry, I-I'll understand if you want to cut it short."
Izuku remained silent for several moments, and Nejire felt her breath catch, before he started speaking. "Well, I can't really relate to the struggle I suppose," Izuku started, getting Nejire worried until he continued, "but that's because I've never been there. And I'm not going to give up Nejire, don't worry. I'm not going to hate you for anything, and I'll do my best to support you no matter what we are. But remember that Mirio and Tamaki are in the same spot as you, and I'm sure many teachers would be able to help. And of course myself, even if I can't give as much help as they could. If nothing else, but your my best friend and I will help you with the good and bad, no matter what."
Nejire heard Izuku's determination in his voice, and Nejire smiled as she listened to his little speech. She was thankful that she took this chance. Speaking of...
"Hey Izuku," Nejire said, her tears long forgotten, "Could you not lean on the door for a moment?"
"Sure, I'm not now- mmph!" Izuku was cut off as the door opened and green eyes met blue eyes as two pairs of lips met.
It was momentary, but felt like an eternity and a massive weight had been lifted off of the two's shoulders. "By the way, I'm preeeeetttyyyy sure we're boyfriend girlfriend now!" Nejire said, back to her usual self as Izuku stared blankly.
"That sounds good." He replied, still emotionless as he was processing. Nejire giggled, dragging him back to the couch to continue the episode.
The remainder of the date went well, the two laughing at moments, and taking a break to have lunch and the date ending after the two cuddled and cried their eyes out at the final two episodes. The final statement was another sweet kiss, Izuku bidding Nejire farewell as he returned to his own dorm, a blinding smile on his face that Nejire was already matching.
