Hitotsu no negai
Summary: One night in the land of waves Sasuke and Naru wish they had the others life. When they wake up in the morning they find themselves actually living their wish. Sasuke has no family and is out of the spotlight. Naru has the family and spotlight. But with this reversal everything has changed. Will the two realize their lives they had wasn't too bad? Or will they stay in this different life?
1: The Wish.
A young teen boy with midnight blue hair and black eyes with fair skin sat outside on the wooden dock that surrounded the small simple house. It the middle of the night the moon was shining bright in the sky with stars and a cool wind was blowing gently making his hair sway gently. His legs swung slightly over the water that was glistening from the moonlight.
"Sasuke?" A quiet feminine voice sounded behind him, he turned to look at his teammate Uzumaki Naru standing a few feet behind him.
"Hm?" He asked.
"Can't sleep either?" She asked walking up and sat next to him on the dock with her legs hanging down like Sasuke's.
"No." He said.
"Are you okay?" She asked looking at the boy, his neck and arms were still wrapped in gauze from the earlier battle. Sasuke and the team almost lost their lives earlier in the day, Sasuke was the closest.
Sasuke, Naru, their other teammate Sakura Haruno and their team sensei Kakashi Hatake got a C-rank mission thanks to Naru throwing a temper tantrum in the Hokage office convincing the old man to give the brand new genin a C-rank mission instead of a D-rank. They were introduced to Tazuna from the land of Waves who was a bridge builder who wanted protection from robbers which was a huge lie. In all truth he was wanted by a rich man who had taken over the land of Waves, Tazuna was building a bridge to free the land from him.
The team quickly found out when they were attacked by two rogue chunin from Mist and with Naru's protests on continuing and Sasuke's want to go on they stayed on the mission which only got harder. Once they docked in Waves they were attacked a rogue jounin named Zabuza Momochi who shockingly captured Kakashi. And much to the protests and orders of the jounin Sasuke and Naru worked together defeated Zabuza freeing Kakashi to nearly take him down until Zabuza's partner saved his life.
The team trained hard knowing Zabuza was alive and coming for them and Tazuna again. And holding true he did, Kakashi battled him again nearly dying. Zabuza's partner a young boy named Haku trapped Sasuke first, Naru came in the fight late and got trapped with Sasuke. When it seemed like they were going to die Sasuke activated his clan's kekkei genkai; the sharingan giving him a small leg up until he jumped in the way for Naru and seemingly dying in her arms.
At the sight of her teammate dead she dipped into the powerful demonic chakra that belonged to Kyuubi no Yoko that was sealed inside her as a baby. She lost control and broke out of Haku's jutsu nearly killing him but sparing him at the last second. But Haku with his loyalty to Zabuza took the death blow from Kakashi dying instantly. The battle continued until Gato showed up at the bridge firing Zabuza who even though on the cusp of death killed Gato and a large number of his thugs before dying by Haku's side wishing to join the boy where he was.
And thanks to Inari who got a severe tongue lashing and point proving from Naru that it wasn't right for them to just bend and give into Gato, the whole village showed up running the remaining thugs out of their land freeing them.
"Well?" Naru asked quietly.
"Yeah, I guess." He said quietly and stared out.
"I'm glad you're not dead." She said. "Who else would I argue and fight with." She said bumping his shoulder, he sighed quietly. "Sasuke?"
"What?" He asked glancing at her.
"I'm sorry." She said, he looked at her confused. "I feel like I've done something wrong..." She said.
"It's not you Naru, it's me." He said, she looked at him confused. "How come you could take Haku down and I couldn't?" He asked, she paused and blinked with a sigh.
"Sasuke, I got … a … I guess a special … thing? That is why."
"What?" Sasuke asked.
Naru sighed and gulped. "You remember how they always told us about the Yondaime and the Kyuubi?" She asked, he nodded. "I'm that baby." She said, he looked at her shocked. "I hold him." She sighed.
"oh..." He said.
"I dipped into his chakra when you …." She stopped. "And it helped me to take him down, but he sacrificed himself for Zabuza." She said. "So really Kakashi-sensei took him down."
"You freed us." He said. "I say I'm an avenger and yet I couldn't break free from that. I basically died." He said.
"Why are you calling yourself an avenger? Is it because of the … clan … thing.." She said hesitantly.
"Yeah." He said. "I swore I would destroy him..."
"Your brother?" She asked, he nodded his head. "How can you do that?" She asked, he looked at her confused. "I mean … he may of killed everyone but … he's still family." She said. "I know I don't know what that is but …" She sighed. "I would get revenge by recreating the family he killed." She said.
"Naru … you -"
"I know, I know, I have no idea what I'm talking about dope." She said, he snorted with a small smirk. "But Sasuke, you know I'm jealous of you." She said, he looked at her.
"Really? I couldn't tell with the competitions and fights you pick." He said.
"I don't mean that." She said. "You don't know how lucky you are to have a family, a mom, a dad, a brother …" She said.
"Naru you're the lucky one, a family isn't all that it's cracked up to be, especially being the youngest." He said. "You have no attention from your father, you always expected to be like your brother." He said. "You have none of that, you don't have expectations, you don't have to be like someone or else you're nothing." He said.
"Sasuke …." She said. "I ..." She said. "I'd give anything to have what you have." She said.
"I'd give anything to have what you have." He said, she paused and sighed.
"I guess we just got the short straws when we were created huh?" She asked.
"I guess." He said looking up at the starry sky.
"Make a wish." Naru said pointing to the shooting star that went across the sky, Sasuke hummed quietly, Naru closed her eyes before opening them again with a sigh.
"Well I gotta get some rest." Sasuke said standing up slowly groaning in pain. "You coming?" He asked.
"In a minute." Naru said, he nodded and walked back into the house quietly and laid back down in his bed.
'I wish I had your life.' He thought before closing his eyes.
Naru sat on the dock and looked into the water and sighed. "I wish I had your life." She whispered imagining the life of laughter, no empty apartments, no hate, just love. She groaned and stood up stretching and headed back inside and crawled into bed looking at Sasuke's back before she sighed turning her back to him and falling asleep quickly.
