What if when Naru battled Sasuke at the final valley he killed her. She wakes to Hagoromo who offers her a second chance, not in her life but in the past to stop the darkened future. Now living the life she always craved she must take the responsibility of fixing the past or risk watching everything fall apart. But is she really prepared for a task this big on her own?

Chapter 1: The battle.

"WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH ABOUT ME?!" The exhausted and bruised Sasuke snarled, his eyes burning as he stared down the only obstacle in his path to power.

"Because, you're my friend." The 'obstacle', which was his teammate Naru, replied with a sad smile on her face. She stared at her teammate who was currently trying to abandon his village for a dangerous rogue criminal, Orochimaru, who less than three months ago placed a mark on the boy that was twisting his mind.

Sasuke paused before letting out a huff and began to dig in his pants pocket, she watched mildly confused as he pulled out his blue hitai-ate, tying it on his forehead.

The blood red eyes that stared nearly in her soul shifted every so slightly and a smirk crossed the boy's face. "Bring it on Naru," He called, she twitched at the call. "If that's what you think, then all I have to do is sever that bond." He said, her lips curled and her body shook as she bawled her hands into fists and closed her eyes.

"Sever the bond? That simple huh? Then what's with the hitai-ate?" She questioned.

"I'll admit it, you're strong." He said, her head snapped up and her eyes widened as he admitted the one thing she craved for since she met him. "And ya wanna know why? it's because you're like me, you feel the pain of being alone, and pain is what makes people strong." He smirked. "So, if I cut our bond, I'll become strong, much stronger." He said and tapped the metal plaque "But you see this? not a single scratch, and there is no way you'll change that." He taunted, her fists curled tighter until her knuckles popped.

"Nothing I saw is gonna sway you, is it?" She questioned.
"I'm done talking, all that is left is to fight! So bring it!" He barked.

Naru shot forward towards him, his blood red eyes shining as he could suddenly see a transparent image of Naru, showing him her next move mere seconds before she executed them.

'I can finally keep up with her!' He thought and threw his left hand out and watched as it connected with her jaw knocking her back before she bounced back and hit after hit to which he easily blocked again and again.

I shot through the trees as fast as my body would go, the exhaustion in my head trying it's best to slow me, but I couldn't slow down. I couldn't be late, not this time! "Boss!" My ninken's voice called, I spotted Pakkun waiting on the branch a few feet ahead and we quickly fell in line together. "This way?" I questioned him, he gave a nod.

"I have Sasuke and Naru's scent trails, it's strong." He provided, I balled my hands tight and mentally cursed myself.

I was a complete fool, I never should have left Sasuke the other night, it was clear he was unstable, he needed me! And my oh so wise move was to scold him and then leave for a damn mission! and now Naru was putting her life on the line to fix my mistake! I had already seen what they were capable of, they were ticking time bombs with deadly force. Sasuke had my stupid chidori and Naru had the rasengan, and even with the chidori being a weaker verison of the rasengan, it was still deadly, especially in the hands of a blinded by revenge child.

I should have done more, something! Anything! I mentally berated myself, my heart pounded against my ribs and sounded like a beating drum in my head.

'Let me make it! Kami let me make it in time!' I mentally pleaded and prayed. Hoping that for once my lackadaisical reputation wouldn't bite me in the butt again. I couldn't lose my students, I couldn't lose anyone again! My stomach churned as I felt the feeling in the air, something was off, like the balance of life was being thrown completely off, something bad was happening, or was going to happen and I didn't like it one bit….

I roared as I slammed Naru down head first into the rock below, I heaved for air before kicking her down into the river and watched as she floated. Her body was lax and I wondered if she was even conscious, cautiously I approached her and stared down at her. I couldn't understand it, why was she trying so hard, risking her life to stop me? It didn't matter, my mind was made up, I was going to Orochimaru, he gave me this bite and gave me a real taste of power, more than anyone ever did before. I needed power, and he was the way to go. I let out a small growl as I grabbed her neck, squeezing it and holding her head under the water. It was time to finish this….

Pain shot through every nerve ending from Sasuke's blow, I closed my eyes tight and gritted my teeth. I gotta stop him! I can't let him go, I gotta stop Sasuke! I yelled in my mind trying to get my body to move. I blinked and found myself in the familiar location of the seal that kept Kyuubi locked inside me.

"Tsk! You runt! You really are weak!" His demonic voice taunted me, I closed my eyes once again. "You best thank me, me and the Yondaime, who saw it fit to seal me in a weakling like you!" I would thank him one day….

I cried out as the burning sensation of his evil red chakra invaded my body, I snapped my eyes open as I realized I couldn't breathe, I grabbed Sasuke's hand giving it a twist as he cried out yanking free and stumbling backwards.

The red chakra bubbled from my stomach and covered my whole body, my teeth shifted into a point, my nails turned to claws and the wounds began to heal as I dropped into a crouch like a wild animal glaring at Sasuke who was in shock at the sight.

I took the chance throwing my hand up watching as Kyuubi's chakra smacked into him knocking him into the same rocks he slammed me into.

I pushed up with a groan of pain, that hit without a doubt broke something, that chakra was incredible. I stared at her, her normal blue eyes were blood red almost like my own, but in a way they seemed deadlier. I recalled seeing them once before in the chunin exams back when I first started to realize she was stronger than me.

'What is she?' I thought, a bead of sweat dripped down my face and my knees slightly buckled as my sharingan picked up the image her chakra was releasing.

"I know Naru is the one you're really after." Jiraiya's voice echoed in my mind as flashes of my pathetic attempt of fighting my brother weeks ago appeared.

"You're right, to take Naru with us is the supreme order given to us by the Akatsuki. She's the key." Itachi's voice answered.

I sneered at her, she was full of surprises, growing stronger and stronger, while I was stuck in place! 'So you got some special power, well so do I..'

I swallowed heavily as I thought about the only possible way I would be the victorious one. I would have to resort to opening the seal. It wasn't the best, but it was my only option, there was no way in hell I would return to Konoha now.

My leg bounced rapidly as I stared out the large bay windows of my office, my heart beat wildly as I stared out at the forest and the graying sky. All I could think about was the genin and chunin I sent out this morning, sending them to get Sasuke back.

'You did what you could Tsunade….' I tried to reassure myself, which wasn't working at all. 'They'll make it,' I thought.

In all honesty I couldn't care less whether they brought Sasuke back or not, I only care if they tried and they all came back alive! I knew as Hokage it was wrong, we needed the Uchiha in the village and it would be horrible if he fell into Orochimaru's hands, but to me… he wasn't that important. If the boy was choosing to go rogue then fine.

I groaned, tipping back in my chair slightly, before I reached for my shot glass and flinched as a quiet crack sounded, I looked down to see my cup split down the middle. I swallowed heavily and felt a bead of sweat roll down my face. An omen like that always spelled bad news, something terrible is going to happen. I looked back out and my mind went straight to one certain genin out there. 'Naru…..' I shot up quickly disregarding Shizune's questions and went to the roof looking up at my grandfather's face. 'Did I make a mistake?' I doubted myself turning back to the woods and listened as the thunder rumbled. 'Kami please make it in time, Kakashi…'

Sasuke cried out as Naru's chakra punched him into the side wall. He heaved for air and watched blood dribble from his mouth. 'This is it… once I unleash this, I have no idea what will happen, but…..' Sasuke glared at Naru. "You've left me with no choice." He stood slowly and watched with a mild fascination as the black flame-like marks on his body began to glow before spreading, turning his skin into a gray color, his hair grew thicker and lightened a shade. "You're pretty special, but in the end I'm still more special than you!" He taunted, Naru stared at the transformed not before her, a flurry of emotions filled her.

"That's it? That is what makes you special?!" She yelled at him.

"I'm not losing here."

o0o

I let out a snarl racing forward and pouncing down on him, I jolted in shock as my blow didn't hit Sasuke but a large hand shaped that grew from his back. It flung me back to my previous location, I grimaced as my body screamed and begged for mercy and a break, but I couldn't. I listened to Sasuke's cry of pain watching the shape become another from his back. I looked into his eyes, I wanted to cry as I saw only Orochimaru there. I think Sasuke is gone…..

I shifted to my feet and went to move but whimpered as I stared at my dangling arm, I yelled in my mind for it to move and watched a fingertip twitch but nothing more. 'Move! Move!' I ordered my arm to listen and watched the bubbling chakra cover it and heal some of the damage.

"That power of yours…. It has its drawbacks huh?" I glared over at ….. at that thing before me. "Did you know we're at the border known as the Final valley, seems fitting we're here meh?" He questioned, I grit my teeth refusing to give into his taunts. "No comment? Oh right, I did say no more talking." He chuckled darkly. "It's time to end this battle… AND ALL THE BATTLES TO DATE!" He roared, gripping his wrist and I watched the chidori light up. I lifted my hand and formed the rasengan in it. The ball rapidly spinning and shaking as it grew in power, his own chidori doing the same. This was it, my last chance, I couldn't fail now.

We both kicked off from our perch launching towards one another, our jutsu of choice clashing loudly, our evil chakras twisting and molding together destroying the area around us.

My body trembled as I went for the finishing blow but all I could see was Sasuke, his mocking smirk, his insults, his hand. I couldn't do it, I couldn't! I let the rasengan fade, opting instead to slash my claws across his hitai-ate the same time his fist slammed into my chest. I gasped for air and my vision blurred and I lost the fire I had, Kyuubi's chakra faded and my body tingled with electricity. I glanced up and saw Sasuke, the boy I knew. The arrogant, determined boy, the boy who was my friend, my brother. I reached out to touch his face before everything turned white and everything faded with a low hum.

o0o

I braced myself in the tree limb just in time as a shock wave came crashing back. The subtle prickle of my hair moving, the beating of my heart and the sheer loss of breath pushed me on. 'This is bad! This is bad! Almost there, come on!'

I kicked off and heard the crack of wood splintering as I raced faster, the feeling in the air was no doubt from them. And my pinpointing of their location, it was pure irony they would choose that place to do this.. would history repeat itself? Would a new tale be told? I was terrified to find out…..

o0o

I heaved for air as the burning and pulsing kicked in as adrenaline wore off and my brain noticed all the damage done. I blinked my bleary eyes and instantly found my target.

The sun shone a ray of light on her body before disappearing behind the dark storm clouds. I found myself standing above her taking in her image. "Naru….." I called, I paused my heart, my lungs, every bit stopped until her eyes fluttered ever so slightly before she succumbed to the darkness. I watched in fascination as my hitai-ate fell from my head landing next to her, I scoffed as I looked at the scarred metal. She put a damn scratch on it.

I cried out as my mark pulsed and I fell to my knees and hacked up blood. I leaned over her as the clouds opened, dumping freezing rain on us.

"Naru." I whispered almost ready to brush her hair from her face before I heard and felt that familiar ripple of space altering.

I looked to the side as sandaled feet appeared, my vision traveled up the black and red cloak to the familiar bastard I met some time ago.

"What are you doing here?" I sneered looking up at him.

"You know what you have to do." He replied, I swallowed the vomit that wanted to erupt, I stood on my quaking legs stumbling around until I stood over her body.

"I know." I gripped my wrist wincing as my chakra protested my over usage but I pressed it still as my chakra once again lit up my hand and I stared at my best friend.

Her eyes fluttered as her consciousness came back. " The battle is over."
