Chapter 1.
It was dawn, the sun was just starting to rise in the sky painting a picture of gold and shades of blue. The air was crisp and cool with a gentle breeze flowing making the flowers and leaves on the trees sway gently. A chorus of birds and bugs sounded slowly as the day began.
A tall golden blonde haired man slipped from the large house he lived in and stood out on the balcony over looking his village that was slowly waking up. Only a small group could be seen walking through the streets while others opened their doors to their businesses and stands while parents worked to get their children to the academy.
Yes today was going to be a good day for the land of Leaf, he knew it. Everyone and everything was at peace and that's how he liked it.
The man was Namikaze Minato, king of the land of Leaf. He was 32 years old but sometimes felt much older with the little action he saw anymore.
Minato POV
I let out a sigh as looked over my village with a smile. The wind blew against me giving me a small shiver and causing goosebumps to rise on my skin and my hair to sway slightly. It seemed like not that long ago I had to fight for not only my life but my village's life as well from my once best friend and his clan. It brought a pang to my heart as I thought about him and how much hatred was in him and I sometimes doubted if that hate would ever leave and we could be friends again like we use to. But unfortunately his father and my elders drilled it in our heads we could not be friends, allies nothing, well nothing except enemies. I held on to the hope that we could be friends but he let it go and became just as hateful as his father.
I blinked as I heard the quiet click of the door shutting behind me before two slender arms wrapped around my waist, I smiled turning to see my beloved wife Kushina there with a smile. Her violet eyes still clouded with sleep and her long red hair frizzy and messed up which was sure signs she just woke up.
"How can you get up so early?" She asked her voice low from the sleep.
"I've always been an early riser, don't you remember?" I smiled, she snorted and squeezed me.
"I recall." She said and sighed setting her head on my shoulder and I leaned mine against her.
It made me smile how we were now but when we were younger growing up it was totally different. Kushina was from another village that had been destroyed and she was one of the few that managed to escape, she came here to Leaf for cover and we took her in instantly. I found her beautiful and spunky, especially since she would beat the bullies half to death for making fun of her. We grew up to be best friends before finally dating and getting married and having our first child, a baby girl.
My little Naru was a princess, spunky and headstrong with a heart of gold like her mother, she had my golden hair and crystal blue eyes but her mother's soft features and I loved every bit of her and even though I knew I was over protecting her sometimes I couldn't help it, after my childhood and everything that happened I couldn't let her get hurt.
Soon after we were blessed with another child a boy this time who came at a surprise a week early, little Mitsuru. While he gained my build he had his mother's red hair and violet eyes and was timid and shy, not very strong or brave sometimes. Of course Naru was extra protective of him never letting anyone say anything bad about him or bully him or anyone for that matter.
So her heart of gold, determination and views is why I decided to name her my heir when she turned 13 years old in a little over a month. Normally it was suppose to be males take the throne then get their wife but Naru had all the makings of being a great ruler and I believed in her.
"Daddy? Daddy!" Naru's voice sounded, I turned and smiled at my girl standing there with a smirk and her hands on her hips. "Did you forget something?" She asked.
"Huh?" I asked.
"You promised you'd take me on a tour through the village daddy!" She said stomping her foot. "To teach me lessons on being the ruler!" She said with a deep pout. I chuckled a little with a sweat drop, I completely forgot all about it.
"I'm sorry baby." I said walking up and bent down. "Let me get cleaned up and we'll head out." I said, she grinned at me and nodded.
"Okay daddy! Be quick!" She said, I kissed her head and walked back in the house and into the bathroom and quickly got cleaned up or risk the wrath of her.
Normal POV
Naru followed her mom into the kitchen as she began to cook their breakfast quickly.
"Morning..." A sleepy voice sounded, Naru turned and smiled at her little brother Mitsuru standing there rubbing his eyes and sighed.
"Hey Mitsuru!" She said, he smiled and sat on the seat next to her. Naru ruffled his red hair that was sticking up more than normal, he chuckled ducking away from her.
"Here you go." Kushina said setting their plates down, both smiled at her thanking her before digging into the food. Minato walked in after a while dressed in his royal clothes which was a white, gold and red tall collar jacket that reached his ankles, he wore blue pants with black boots and a white and gold shirt.
"Here hon." Kushina said putting some food in front of him, he smiled and sat down taking a bite.
"So what are we gonna do daddy?" Naru asked swallowing her food.
"We're going to go for a walk around the village and learn about things you'll be handling once you take the throne. See the whole village like never before." He said.
"Cool!" Naru said with a smile and finished her breakfast in one last big bite and chewed quickly.
"Can … can I go?" Mitsuru asked quietly.
"I'm sorry, but it has to be Naru only." Minato said. "It's the leader lessons today." He said. "Maybe next time." He said.
Mitsuru slumped a little and sighed. "S'okay." He said quietly, Naru frowned.
"It'll be okay 'Suru, how about we meet after and we'll hang out huh?" She asked with a smile, he cracked a small one.
"Okay, sure." He said.
"What would you like to do?" Kushina asked.
"Dunno... may just stay in here." He said.
"'Suru you need to hang out with other people, not just books." Kushina said.
"I hang out with others!" He said looking down. "Yeah they're older but... the others wont... I mean..." He stopped and sighed standing up and walking out slumped.
"He really can't come daddy?" Naru asked looking at Minato.
"I'm sorry baby, but this stuff is for the next ruler, only that one must know these things." He said, Naru sighed and looked at the door.
"Okay..." She said and looked down a little.
Mitsuru walked up to his room slowly before getting dressed and walked to one of the wings of the large house and opened the double doors that led to a room that was lined with books floor to ceiling. He walked to the double glass door and opened them and walked out slowly and looked out at the village.
"Come on!" Naru's voice sounded, he looked to see Naru running down the steps followed by Minato, she hugged his arm and walked next to Minato as they entered the village. Mitsuru slumped and sighed staring out quietly before he walked back into the room and got lost in a book.
Naru glanced back at the large house and sighed quietly as she held her dad's arm and they walked out of the village.
They began to walk through the village and Minato instructed her on the ins and outs of the village, meeting many people before they came to the large mountain that had the faces of the rulers carved in it.
"So that's why when you become leader you must know how to distinguish what's right and wrong." Minato said. "This whole village depends on its ruler being fair and respecting everyone in it and with everyone having a relation to it." He said.
"So this is all gonna be mine someday..." She said looking around with a smile then it fell. "H... how will I know I'm doing right?" She asked with a frown, he smiled and bent down to her.
"Because you're with your family, we're all together and while some choices don't seem the best we'll stand by you no matter what. Once you're there, you're never forgotten." He said, Naru smiled and looked down.
"Well I have one more question.." She said.
"Okay." He said.
"You said we have to respect and be kind to all even ones with relations to us..." She said, he nodded. "What bout the broken country of Fan, the Uchiha colony..." She said, Minato stiffened and sighed. "Shouldn't they get a chance to ….. get a better life?" She asked looking in the direction where their land resided farther away from the village. "They were once apart of us." She said.
"Yes, true." He said. "But they followed Madara, who nearly destroyed everyone because he was hungry for power, he claimed one thing but did another." He said. "We've given them chances and some have come to our side." He said. "But they have a black heart that only wants power." He said. "They can't be trusted. And while it may be hard to see their conditions, you must know every choice has a consequence, it was their choice." He said, Naru nodded a little. "Alright." He said and sighed. "How about we go-" Two blurs shot down next to them, Naru smiled as she looked at her dad's student Kakashi who had a big soft spot in his heart for Naru. And Yamato Minato's assistants who was very weird and all about rules, rules, rules which meant Naru didn't get along with him.
"King Minato." Kakashi and Yamato said with a bow.
"Hi Kakashi." Naru said, he smiled and winked at her.
"What's wrong?" Minato asked.
"Uchiha spies have been spotted by the northern border." Yamato said. "They've kil- er..." He stopped looking at Naru.
"Alright." Minato said instantly turning his father mode off and becoming the responsible leader he was. "Kakashi take Naru home."
"Aww dad! Can't I come?" She asked stepping forward.
"No Naru! It's too dangerous." He said and disappeared in a flash followed by Yamato.
Naru frowned with a huff. "I never get to go..."
"Oh Naru." Kakashi said. "One day you'll be queen and you can beat those Uchiha's to a pulp." He winked, she huffed, he chuckled and bent in front of her and held her hips turning her a little making a smile slowly grow. "Hows about we go get some lunch?" He asked with a wink.
"Okay!" She smiled, he chuckled and stood up holding his hand out to her, she smiled holding it and nuzzled his arm as they walked away.
They walked through the village and to Naru's favorite restaurant Ichiraku's ramen, they got a seat and ordered the food. "So what do you want to do today Naru?" Kakashi asked.
"Well I'm gonna go find Mitsuru and drag him from his books." She said and chuckled. "He wont unless I'm with him."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, the other kids pick on him, so he's got no courage." She said. "And I swore I'd take care of him!" She said.
"You're very brave to do that. And a good sister." Kakashi said, she giggled with a smile.
"What are you doing today?" She asked.
"I'm not sure yet. I don't know if your father has errands for me to run or what." He said. "So you were getting your village tour?" He asked.
"Yeah! Daddy said on my birthday he'll announce I'm his choice. Although a part of me worries about 'Suru. I don't want him upset that I'm getting the seat." She said.
"I don't think he would Naru. I think he's proud and happy. You're his big sister and he's going to be the one you come to for help on decisions." He said. "It's an important job it's self." Kakashi said, Naru nodded and continued to eat her lunch.
Kakashi walked her back to the palace where her father was speaking with some guards.
"How'd it go daddy?" Naru asked.
"Don't worry about it Naru." He said, which usually meant it didn't go well. "Go play, I need to talk with the guards." He said, she nodded and walked through the halls and upstairs finding Mitsuru sitting in a cushy chair engrossed in his book. She smiled and crept up behind him before pouncing. He yelped jumping straight up and sighed as Naru giggled.
"You scared me!" He said.
"I could tell." She giggled. "Come on, let's go play."
"Aw Naru I don't wanna go out." He said.
"Is this cause of Kiba? 'Suru I told ya, I'll deal with him. Just ignore his dog breath." She said, he chuckled.
"It's not just Kiba, I don't fit in with them."
"Cause you don't try!" She said. "Come on now. Let's go!" She said tugging his arm, he sighed but followed her outside of the palace and headed to the large field by the river where all the kids and families met to play and relax.
Naru spotted the group of kids that was her age, it was Kiba Inuzuka who was a bit of a jerk especially to Mitsuru, he constantly picked on him and called him a runt and of course would get a beating from Naru a second later.
Along with him was Chouji Akimichi who was lazy boy who only liked to eat and hated being called fat or chubby. He was friends with Mitsuru but didn't play much. Along with Chouji was Shikamaru Naru a lazy genius that had a crush on Naru but never really acted on it, he's just call her a troublesome girl and poke her making her blush.
Three others were gathered with them and they were the Hyuuga children, a royal family in the land of Leaf. Hinata was the oldest and very shy and kind, her younger sister was the exact opposite, she was rude and snotty, she picked on Mitsuru constantly and loved to get them in trouble.
"Hey Naru!" Hinata said spotting her, she grinned and ran up to the pulling Mitsuru along.
"Hey Hina. What's everybody doing?" She asked.
"Kiba and Neji are trying to prove who's better." She said, Naru chuckled a little looking at both boys as they jumped and ran around before both collasped at the same time.
"So did they basically show they both suck?" Naru asked louder making both glare at her.
"Like your that great?" Kiba asked and spotted Mitsuru and sneered. "Why'd ya bring that weakling?" He sneered at Mitsuru who hunched.
"He's my brother, get over it." Naru said.
"Oh please! He's so – uh..." Kiba stopped as Naru gave him an icy glare that most feared. He gulped and fidgeted slightly. "It's a nice day out huh?" He asked, Naru snorted at him rolling her eyes.
"How about ninja?" She smiled.
"Tsk... fine.." Kiba muttered. Mitsuru slunk a little and gulped.
"Not it!" Naru called followed by others, Neji called last meaning he was it.
They giggled and ran around the field hiding and jumping around dodging Neji. Mitsuru hunkered in a tree silently trying to go undetected. Suddenly he felt someone behind him, he spun to see Kiba there, he gulped and cried out as Kiba shoved him from the tree where he landed on the ground with a loud pop making him scream.
Naru jumped at his scream and ran up to him, he gripped his wrist and had tears running from his face. "Suru! You okay?" She asked and gasped at the swollen wrist. "It's broken." She said. "What happened?!" She questioned him, he glanced up to see Kiba standing there glaring at him.
"I... I was in tr- tree and I fell." He lied mumbling, Naru squinted at him.
"He'll be fine. Get a cast." Hanabi, who was Hinata's younger sister and was 10 times more brattier than Kiba or Neji combined said.
"Shut up Hanabi." Naru snarled. "Suru, tell me the truth." She said quietly.
"Come on guys lets go play." Neji said.
"Hold it! Suru! Now!" She barked in anger, he flinched and shook his head biting his lip. Naru growled in anger and looked over at the others. "Someone better tell me the truth, now!" She growled her chakra leaking a slight killer intent. Hinata gulped and opened her mouth and sighed.
"Kiba pushed him." She piped up.
"Wha-!? No I didn't!" He defended, Naru turned her sights to him, her lip curling. "He's such a wimp, get over it you big baby and go home to your crib!" He bared. "We were playing, ninja is a rough game, you can't be a baby." He sneered. Mitsuru whimpered before running off crying making a few chuckle namely Kiba.
Naru glared at him and balled her fist up which everyone but Kiba saw and quieted down.
"Kiba, your an ass." She growled before rearing her fist back delivering a harsh blow to his eye. He fell back with a cry of pain holding his face.
"That hurts!" He yelped.
"It's a game, you're gonna get hurt, you can't be baby." She mocked him, he glared at her.
"MOM!" He yelled loudly.
Naru cursed and slumped a little knowing she was in for it when she got home that night.
Naru stood in front of her father and mother, she stared at the floor, Mitsuru who had a cast on his wrist stood behind her to the right.
"You punched him in the face?" Minato asked, she nodded her head. "Why?"
"He's always picking on Mitsuru! He's not nice daddy!" She said.
"I agree, but that's not warrant to punch him, you have him a black eye." He said.
"He deserved more.." She muttered.
"Naruko Uzumaki!" He barked making her flinch. "The whole story, now." He demanded.
"We came up and they were already starting to mock Suru, I defended him and we decided to play ninja. Suru was hiding in a tree and Kiba pushed him out of it for no reason which made him break his wrist." She said, tears pricked at her eyes when she took in her father's harsh look. "He lied and Hanabi joined in, they began to mock Suru and I had enough so I punched him." She said.
"Naru a queen can't be seen doing things like that! You must set an example-"
"I was! It's not right to pick on someone, you'll get it back!" She said.
"Naruko!" Minato barked, she looked down and sniffled. "You are grounded, you will not leave the palace for a week.
"But daddy!"
"No butts! Now go!" He barked pointing, she whimpered and ran out of the room sobbing loudly. Mitsuru watched in sadness and gulped.
"Dad please, don't punish her.." He said quietly. "We was defending me, Kiba was mocking me a lot." He said.
"I understand and I will have a talk with his mother and all their parents, but I cant tolerate hitting, especially from Naru." He said. "Just tell her she's grounded for two day." He said, Mitsuru smiled and ran down the hall.
He knocked on his sisters door and found her laying on her bed sobbing.
"Naru.." He said, she sniffled but didn't move. "Dad said it's only two days you're grounded and he's taking care of 'em." He said, Naru looked up at him and sat up.
"Sorry." She muttered.
"What for?" He questioned.
"You didn't want to go and I made you. Ya even got hurt." She said.
"I'm fine Naru. Thanks for defending me."
"I'll always defend you Suru. Always." She smiled, he returned it and relaxed next to her.
