The Daughter Of Bruce Stark Part 6
The next day, Leo and Evelyn were doing some training like they did yesterday while under Halle's supervision. She watches the two kids train together. Bruce was at work while Leia and Seth were in the Batcave. Sam was in the library reorganizing the books. Leo started doing some crunches as Evelyn held his feet down.
This went on for a few minutes and it was Evelyn's turn to do some crunches. After another few minutes pass by, Leo pulls her on her feet. The two kids did some training exercises; pushups, pullups, stretches, handstands and splits. Halle approaches them.
"I'm surprised that you are training together and doing some exercises." Halle said.
"We just became friends last night." Leo folded his arms.
"That's nice." Halle smiled. "It's nice to see you two being friends."
"Thanks." Leo thanked her.
"Let's check out the library, Leo."
Leo nodded his head and follows his new friend inside the manor. The library was located near the front of the manor. There was a big brown leather couch with a bunch of bookshelves lined up against the walls of the room and a table with a miniature Gothic City. A large round table was in front of the leather couch. Each shelf had its own genre.
"There's a lot of books in here." Leo approaches a shelf.
"I was in here yesterday when the tracker went off." Evelyn said.
Leo takes a book off the shelf and looks at the cover. "Hm. Clive Cussler and Nora Roberts. Interesting."
"There are other books here too besides that one." Evelyn pointed out. "Like J.K. Rowling."
"This is interesting. A history book about earth." Leo looks at the blue book. "And a book about-" he was saying as he takes a book and saw the cover of felines. Leo let's out a small gasp and the book fell on the floor.
"About felines." Evelyn finished as she picks up the book.
"Yeah." Leo looks away from the book for a moment and picks it up to put it away where he found it. "Hm? Are those comic books?"
On the next shelf over was some comic books.
"Yes. I was looking at one yesterday. I didn't read the whole thing." Evelyn replied.
Leo walks over to the next shelf and picks up the first comic. "DC Universe Rebirth Teen Titans Vol 1: Damian Knows Best"." Leo read the cover. "You think these comics used belong to the others before us?"
"Probably. I'm betting these comics used to belong to Rick." Evelyn said.
"I can say that Damian's design is interesting. Especially his Robin costume." Leo takes a closer look. He grabs a couple of comics and places them on the couch before walking back to the shelf. There were several books that caught Leo's attention and brought the several books over to the couch and started reading.
It was the late afternoon as Bruce returned from the office. He enters the kitchen to see Sam finishing up cooking dinner.
"Welcome back, sir." Sam turns around with Bruce's food. "I have already prepared your dinner and kept it warm for you."
"Thank you, Sam." Bruce said as he sits down at the table. "How's Leo and Evelyn right now?"
"They are doing fine right now, sir and both of them are in the library."
"What are they doing in the library?"
"They are both reading some books right now. I saw Leo looking at Master Rick's comic books of DC."
"Which one of Rick's comic books?"
"The DC Rebirth Universe, sir. Last time I checked, Leo was reading on the couch while your daughter was reading on the floor in front of the couch."
"After dinner, please bring Leo and Evelyn to the Batcave." Bruce said as he started eating his dinner.
"As you wish, Master Bruce." Sam nods his head.
Back in the library, Leo was reading a book on the couch as Evelyn was reading on the floor.
"Master Bruce needs the both of you in the Batcave right now." Sam announced, standing in the doorway.
Leo and Evelyn follows the butler to the Batcave where there was a girl who was waiting for them with Seth and Leia. She was wearing a gray and black costume that covers her entire body. Her face was covered by mask excepts her blue-green eyes. She has a hood up that covers her beautiful long red hair except a single bang was next to her left eye.
"Who's this?"
"Leo, Evelyn, this is Kathleen Springfield, also known as Tracer." Leia introduced her friend.
"Nice to meet you two." Kathleen said.
"Same to you." Leo said.
"How come you're here?" Evelyn asked her.
"Thought I'd come by and drop this off." Kath fishes out a vial of blue liquid.
"What is that stuff?" Seth wonders.
"I'm not sure. I found it last night in the building that you two kids were in after Bruce called me. Plus, I'm surprised that he's doing it."
"Huh?" Leo and Evelyn looks a little confused. They both turn around to see Batman standing behind them.
"Evelyn, if you're going to help, then you will have to become Robin." Batman said.
"Fine." Evelyn nodded her head.
"Sam is bringing the uniform." He informs her.
"And what about Leo?" Evelyn points at him.
"You really think I need to wear that?" Leo looks at Sam bringing the uniform.
"That one used to be mine and there was one for the boys as well." Kath said.
"You wore that to patrol the city?"
"Yeah." Seth nodded his head.
Evelyn takes the uniform and finds a small changing room.
"I don't think I need an insipid costume with a bird's name to hide my identity." Leo folded his arms and gestures his head to Seth. "I'm way beyond his simplistic training as he saw what I did last night to Dylan."
"You're just lucky I didn't fu-" Seth was saying until Kath steps on his foot. "Ow! Alright. You're just lucky I got some rope to tie you up."
Leo was about say something else until he saw Evelyn stepping out in her costume. Evelyn was wearing a dark red tunic with the yellow R on her left breast. The tunic covers the black body suit. She was wearing a black domino mask. Not to mention the green bladed gauntlets and black boots. The blades are curve, thin, hard and sharper than normal steel and retractable as the black boots. Her red utility belt was wrapped around her waist as she wore a black cape with yellow lines on all four sides of the cape.
"How do you feel in it?" Leia asks her.
"It doesn't feel uncomfortable." Evelyn replied as she moves her arms.
"Good." Batman nodded. "Because we need to get moving. We're meeting Commissioner Lyndon at the usual spot tonight."
It was a dark night in Gothic City. The commissioner was waiting on the rooftop with a bottle of water next to a spotlight.
"Commissioner Lyndon, I presume?" a new voice spoke behind her.
The commissioner quickly turns around to see a young raven-haired kid behind her. "What are you doing here, kid?"
"He's with us, Cindy." Batman drops onto the roof with Batgirl, Black Devil, Tracer and Robin.
"Ok then. But when did you get another Robin?" Cindy asked Batman.
"I'll explain later." Batman answered.
"We found an interesting item you'll all be interested in." Commissioner Lyndon takes out a Ziploc bag with a piece of paper. She hands it over to Batman.
Batman takes a look at the piece of paper. There were directions on this paper plus a phone number. "Who's phone number is this?"
"His "chatline". Cindy said carefully. "These directions leads to Old Gothic Stadium."
"That's a good place to start." Tracer folded her arms.
After leaving the commissioner, they arrived at Old Gothic Stadium. It was located in the city, and it was big. Batgirl, Tracer and Black Devil was standing on a tall building as Batman, Leo and Robin was on top of a parking garage.
"Remember our deal that you two are backups." Leo reminded himself of what Bruce said.
Leo was seeing through a pair of binoculars that Batgirl gave him. He could see some security cameras in the distance.
"Let's move." Evelyn said, getting ready to move.
"Hang on." Leo lowers the binoculars. "We need to get past those security cameras first."
"Fine." Evelyn nodded her head.
"We'll have to go through the sewers to go in there." Batman points at the sewers.
After crawling through the sewers, they made it inside a small room. The three of them made it to another room by going through the vents. Batman opens the door slightly to watch two soldiers walking by. The coast was clear and all three of them steps out in the hallway.
"Let's take them on." Evelyn said.
"No. We need to find Dr. Baker." Batman replied.
"Then let's split up." Leo said. "We can cover more ground that if you or I could find the doctor first. And besides, I know him."
"Fine. But remember. Do not kill."
The young boy nodded his head and ran off into the darkness by himself. He dives behind a box to hide from two soldiers. The two soldiers walk by without even looking. Leo resumes to proceed to move again. He heads up to the upper levels. There was no signs of any soldiers on this floor. But Leo saw a light that being emitted through a door.
He enters the room. There were several books that was on a desk with a chalkboard at the wall. The laptop was on and there were several glass bottles. A man was wearing a white lab coat, a gray t-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes. He has short blond hair.
"Dr. Baker." Leo said.
Dr. Baker turns around and his black eyes saw Leo. "Leo? What are you doing here? How did you find me?"
"We're rescuing you. Found some directions that led us here." Leo approaches him.
"Who else is here with you?"
"Batman and Robin are here with me. Batgirl, Black Devil and Tracer are waiting for us outside."
"Thank goodness." Dr. Baker sighs with a relief. "I'll be glad to get out of here after being forced to work for two years with these people. I really want to get the hell out of here."
"Then grab your stuff and let's leave." Leo said. "I'll help you out."
"Thank you, Leo."
A few minutes later, Dr. Baker's bag was all packed.
"I got everything." Dr. Baker said, holding a backpack that contains his notebooks.
"Alright then." Leo nodded. "I'll call the others on my phone."
"You can't. I tried that already a couple years ago because they're jamming the signal."
"Damn. Then we need to move fast before they discovered that you escaped." Leo said. He pokes his head out of the doorway to see five soldiers walking in the hallway. Leo quickly hid behind back in the room and watches the five soldiers walk by the room. "The coast is clear. Let's go."
Leo and Dr. Baker made it down to the lower levels. The two of them met up with Batman and Evelyn on the next floor before the last level.
"I see you rescued the doctor, Leo." Batman looks at Dr. Baker.
Leo nodded his head. "We should get moving before-"
Then the sound of footsteps can be heard coming from behind Leo and Dr. Baker.
"We're discovered." Evelyn growled.
"Move!" Batman ordered as several soldiers appeared at the end of the hallway. He threw down a smoke bomb to cover their escape.
"Don't let them escape! We need those three alive!"
They kept running through the halls. Eventually they made it to the bottom level and ran to the main entrance. Several soldiers were waiting for them and open fired at them. Leo and Dr. Baker dives through the glass door of an abandon sports store as Batman and Evelyn dives behind a stone column. Batman threw several smoke bombs to the soldiers to cover them all in smoke. Evelyn followed her father through the smoke to knock out the soldiers.
"Stay down, doc." Leo tells him before entering the fray. He drew his diamond sword and charges to a couple of soldiers.
"No swords!" Batman barks at them before delivering a hard punch to a soldier's jaw.
"Fine!" Evelyn exclaims in annoyance.
Leo nodded in agreement and sheathes his sword and dodges a stab from a soldier. He counters back by punching to the throat and a strong palm uppercut to the jaw. The kid dives forward to dodge a grab from another soldier. Leo jumps back and did a headbutt to a soldier's stomach and grabs the gun from him and knocks him out to the head.
"Ha!" Evelyn shouted, punching a soldier across the face. She was doing well against several soldiers. The young girl dives between a soldier's legs and kicks one of the legs to force him to get on his knee before jumping into a back spin and threw the soldier into another room with his comrades.
She disarms a soldier who had a gun pointed at her. With enough fast jabs to the abdomen, Evelyn swept him off his feet.
Leo looks up to see more soldiers coming. "We need to get out of here!" He shouted at Batman. The young kid picks up several grenades and threw them to the new soldiers before Batman throws several smoke bombs to cover their escape.
Once they escaped, Batman had to cover Dr. Baker's face with a sack before heading back to the Batcave. The Black Knight removes the sack from the doctor's face.
"Where am I?" Dr. Baker looks at his new surroundings.
"You're in the Batcave." Seth answered.
"I see."
"Take a seat, doctor." Leo offers him a chair to sit down.
"Thank you." Dr. Baker sits down.
"Why did they take you away from your wife and son?" Batman asked him.
"Does it have something to do with this mysterious energy source you discovered?"
"Yes. But I didn't get a chance to study this energy source yet until I was captured by those soldiers. I don't know what they're planning to do with it." The doctor lowers his head.
"And what about dinosaur bones? Why are they digging them up?"
"To bring them back to life and clone them along with the others who went extinct. Saber-toothed tigers for example." Dr. Baker answered. "I was shocked when Julian told me that."
"When was the last time you contacted your family?"
"Two years ago."
"So how the hell is Julian going to bring back the dinosaurs and clone them?"
"I'm not sure, but there's a few helicopters coming in tonight to deliver those crates of bones to a boat in Wuji City. I don't know what they're planning to use that mysterious energy source for."
"Can you tell us what it looks like?"
"It looks like some sort of liquid. And it smelled funny too. I wished I studied it."
"Perhaps this could help." Black Devil walks up to them with two heavy buckets. He takes the covers off to reveal the mysterious liquid.
The liquid was red as blood.
"This is the mysterious energy source." Dr. Baker was surprised.
"I got these two buckets when I went in there to search for you guys." Black Devil said. "Plus this." He takes out a hard drive.
Batgirl takes a sniff. "It does smell funny."
"What is it called?" Evelyn asked.
"They call it Kreytine, from what I read on the hard drive. It acts as gas fuel."
"Let's put the cover back on." Batgirl puts the cover back on.
"This gas is not from Earth." Leo looks at the doctor.
"I'll get the Batwing fueled." Black Devil said.
"Good. In the meantime, we should come up with a plan on how to deal with Julian and Carlos." Batgirl said.
"Fine." Dr. Baker nodded his head.
"Now that we know that Kreytine is fuel, let's use it as a bomb." Leo suggested.
"We don't know what the blast radius is. The hard drive should tell us." Batman said. He notices Leo walking away. "Where are you going?"
"To get a drink." Leo answered before he and Evelyn left the Batcave. As the two arrived in the kitchen, Evelyn notices a letter on the table.
It was addressed to her and Leo. She opens the letter and started reading it.
"If you want to save your mother and Xeno, you will both come alone. We shall wait for your arrival at the docks in Wuji Harbor. Signed by Commander Julian."
Evelyn hands the letter over to Leo. She watches him crumple the paper in anger and leaves the kitchen to head outside. Evelyn follows him outside.
Leo stops and turns around to her. "We need to leave for Wuji City and end those two bastards.
"Then let's move. I'll drive."
