Side Story II - Entrenching (I).
Takes place in: Month I - Day 18.
[Late upload. Far too many things on my end. So yeah, missed last week. Sorry people! Anyway, another little event that takes 6 parts to complete.]
* Danger lurks everywhere in Hell, even in The Tower. With many on the Fourth Level, ready to witness an explosive show that heralds the opening of the mine, opportunists chose to strike. Blood marks the First Level as Rosie cements the family's trust in her while getting rid of some pests. *
A nod and a happy wave. Or well, as happy as it could get right now. Mireya was strangely okay with the blonde woman passing her side, lips and chin covered in blood.
Sinners that were cannibals in life tended to have greyish, bluish or otherwise smoky colored kin, like the Cannibals of the Colony. They were also, at least if they were members of Cannibal Colony, just as well mannered… most of the time, on both accounts. It was an interesting consistency.
Was it strange that Mireya found many of them much nicer than most people she remembered from back home? Maybe… Then again, monsters seemed to be more sincere than most people. And Mireya included herself there.
Sad thoughts. But still, she was not unhappy here.
At least one of her sons was with her. He still cared.
"Mom. Are you alright?"
And having him at her side made her feel a little better.
"Just fine, hon." Mireya offered her son a little smile. "Just tired of being cooped up. I thought helping my father check on everyone would be at least something."
Ernesto gave a nod. "It gets you out of the house at least."
The young man didn't mind that the place was very simple. His brother complained, but that is all Pablo did as of late. He barely shared any time with anyone but his own thoughts. Ernesto knew this would only last so long before something bad happened.
He didn't voice those thoughts as they walked through the two 'streets' that had been laid close to their own homes. A number of abodes; three rows for the three dozen houses or so. Quaint, if it wasn't for the similar design.
Ernesto utterly hated the look. That was the only thing he would complain about.
"So what are we going to do?" He opted to ask instead of dwelling on it. Perhaps once all was done he could talk with Rosie? No, no… that was probably a bad idea.
"What I have been doing." Mireya didn't seem to pick on her child's unhappy disposition at the place. "Check on everyone. Dad had a talk with Rosie and he is going to be named the 'mayor' of this place, or something."
"Or something?" Ernesto arched an eyebrow. "I thought you'd be interested in seeing the fireworks upstairs. Forget about-"
"That is what he said and no." The woman cut her son quickly. Ernesto frowned, but Mireya broke no argument. "Not interested in a bunch of explosives making me deaf or debris falling everywhere around me." Mireya shrugged as she went for the next house, then stopped. "Isn't this one…?"
Ernesto caught on. "Yeah… this is the one where Uther lives."
Uther… That Cannibal paired with the twin women Polly and Ester. He had been a pain for some time now. One of the people that came to live here from the Colony and with Rosie's promise of being capable.
Capable, not friendly. And most people in the family had seen the man's hunger behind those black eyes.
The other Cannibals had at some point looked at them like meat. But apparently that was the norm here. More so with Sinners with cannibalistic tendencies. Everyone was game in their culture, at least if they dropped their manners.
But this man. Uther? He had been making it clear that this was no game for him.
"Perhaps… Perhaps we can skip this one." Mireya got a nod from her son. That is all she needed for both of them to turn around. "Let's check the ne-"
"So nice of you to join us, dear."
A hissing yelp of pain is all Mireya got out before a claw pierced her shoulder and another silenced her. Her son fared much worse with one arm choking him and another clawing at his elbow the moment he tried to defend himself.
The voice of a man made a cold chill run down her spine. "I think it is time our hosts offer us a proper meal. No?"
