Hunger -Chapter 12
She stopped the stage in the middle of the road near the forest, then looked for a child who was hiding behind a bush. She told the child stories all the time, always keeping him calm and under control, as well as of course whetting the boy's imagination, she really must be a good teacher. Elizabeth fed her son with the food that Jonhan had shared with her, they had already been walking for over eight hours, she only went out to clean her son and feed him, but he only saw that she had eaten something when she took it out of her own bag, it was a small portion in her closed hand, it took three small chews and that was it, he had swallowed it; He didn't know what it was, but in eight hours, that was it? Maybe that's why she was so slender. He noticed her expressive eyes, she had a light, a peace that he hadn't been able to find for a long time, he could fall in love with this woman so easily. Many years ago, after the death of his fiancée, he had never seen or felt so concerned about another woman. Arriving at a bus stop, he said he was going to look at a hotel and two rooms, he left the stage and headed for the square, Elizabeth noticed that there was a lot of bustle in the city and because it was so late, she decided to stay inside the stage with her sleeping son, waiting for the good man to find a hotel, she couldn't stay with her son in a bar or a dump, and thank God a good soul wanted to help her.
Elizabeth noticed the movement and soon realized what was happening. She had already traveled almost half the way and would soon find her cousin or uncle who was in the Northern Territories. Seeing the men scrutinizing everyone in the square, she knew who they were and what they were looking for. Grabbing her purse, she pulled out a small piece of paper and wrote a few lines of thanks and, together with some money, left it on the stage bench. She left by the back door, very quietly, with her son and the bag, and continued walking in the dark up the alley. She soon found a door to a lot with an abandoned building in terrible condition; she threw her bag against the wall under a staircase and slept there, holding her son on her lap. A deep sleep, where he slept and heard nothing more.
Jonhan returned to the stage with the valet and when he opened the door, he saw the note:
SR JONHAN
YOUR PRESENCE HAS BROUGHT ME MUCH COMFORT THIS DAY. GOD BE WITH YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY AND PROTECT YOU. I LEAVE HERE THE MONEY FROM THE STAGE RACE, I HOPE IT'S ENOUGH FOR THIS PURPOSE, AS I DON'T KNOW THE PRICE OF IT. MY SON AND I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL. GRACE.
Jonhan and the valet searched for her for hours, but found nothing. When dawn broke, he returned to the search, but to no avail. He had to continue his journey because he had an urgent meeting in the capital. Meanwhile, the knights of Hope Valle arrived and found Jonhan leaving. Thinking they had found Elizabeth, they stopped the stage and opened the door to find him alone. Gab immediately asked where she was and as he was known, Jonhan decided to show him the ticket and the money inside. Tears filled Nathan's eyes as he gave him a basic explanation of the case, the escape and his motive. The man, seeing all this love, said:
- Look, she was a determined person, because all the time she tried to keep an eye on the boy even during the bad times of the trip, she looked tired, but she didn't show it at any time or complain, in the more than eight hours we were together she didn't close her eyes for a single moment. As for little Jack, he ate my food, I shared it with them, but she only gave it to the child, and in all that time on stage, I only saw her eat twice, it was something that was in her bag, she took something small in her closed hands and put it in her mouth.
- It was sweet bread, Lucas shouted. She's only had two mouthfuls of sweet bread, my God, we need to find her before she starves to death.
Jonhan moved on, but said he would help them in any way he could, because he felt so at peace with her words, which he seemed to have known for years. Everyone looked at each other and knew what he was talking about, because they had all been there before.
