Courtney Matthews paced nervously around the park bench, glancing at her watch every few seconds. Damn, she thought to herself. She's late. Maybe it's a sign I should just go and leave this alone.

At that moment, Emily Quartermaine ran up to her breathless. "Sorry, but Nikolas insisted on coming with me." She motioned to the handsome young man coming up behind her. "Why did you need to see me?"

Courtney took a deep breath to clear her head before she began. What she was about to ask may destroy her relationship with her fiancé, Jason Morgan, but she was tired of all the secrecy concerning his past. Every time she thought she broke down a barrier with him, another triple reinforced door sprung up in it's place. "I want to know about Jason" She paused, "and Robin Scorpio."

Emily's face grew guarded instantly. "Jason doesn't like people to talk about his personal life."

I know. Courtney responded, But he refuses to let me in. I know haven't hiding something regarding their relationship. All he'll say is that she betrayed him and stole his son. Carly says Robin ripped their lives apart and set out to personal hurt Carly. Sonny shakes his head and gets this sad, faraway look in his eyes whenever I approach him about it. If I'm really going to marry this man I deserve to know the truth. Courtney pleaded in a slightly desperate tone.

Why are you so sure there is more to tell? Nikolas asked coldly. Just go back to living your fairytale life and leave Robin alone.

That's just it. I know there are 2 sides to every story. Ms. Scorpio must be pretty special to have held onto Jason's heart for so long. I know he's still not over her. The mere mention of her name makes him clam up faster than a cold shower. And what he does say is tinged with such bitterness after all these years that I can't help but wonder why he's still so angry.

Look Courtney, Robin is a good friend; one of my best. And Jason is my brother. I don't know if I can talk to you about this.

But I can. Nik spoke up. Don't look at me like that Em. Robin is my friend and obviously no one has filled Courtney in on her side of the story.

Yeah but it isn't your story to tell. Emily protested.

I know that. Nikolas sighed. Courtney, what do you know about Carly? I mean about how she came to live here and her relationship with Jason?

Um, not much. Just that she came here to meet her mother and she and Jason fell in love and-

Emily burst out laughing. She told you that? You have to be joking. Jason never loved her. Not the way he loved Robin. Not even the way he loves you.

Now do you see? Courtney exclaimed growing more agitated by the second. I don't know anything. This information could affect my future and no one wants to talk about the past!

Are you having 2nd thoughts about your relationship with my brother? Emily asked, her tone concerned.

I think so. We haven't been getting along and everything I do is wrong in his eyes somehow. I'm tired of fighting to fit in, of trying to prove I can be trusted. I'm sick of him shutting me out. I don't know, maybe our relationship is based solely on sex and the adrenaline of some of the situations we've been in together. I can tell you this, we aren't exactly friends.

Emily looked at Nik. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? She asked him

Yeah. Do you want me to call her or do you want to do it?

What is this some kind of code? Courtney wanted to scream with frustration.

Courtney, you do realize that if Jason finds out about what you are asking, it's over between you 2? Before we go any further I have to know that you are willing to take that risk.

I know. But living this way is killing me. I can't do it any longer. So it's either find out the truth, or leave it be and leave Jason anyway.

Fine. Emily responded. I'll call Nik. Why don't you tell her about the beginning? Why Carly came here in the first place and why AJ ended up fathering her child.

What? Who is she calling? Courtney asked completely confused.

Don't worry about that now. Nik reassured her. You came to Emily for answers and we are going to give you as much as we can now. There's obviously a lot you don't know about what happened when Carly came to town.

Nik sat talking to Courtney for the next hour while Emily made several calls on her cell. The blonde woman's eyes grew wide with shock as she learned the full story of Caroline Benson AKA Carly Roberts. How she seduced her mother's husband out of some sick desire to hurt Bobby for putting her up for adoption, how she told him she was pregnant to get him to leave Bobby, then drugged AJ while knowing he was a recovering alcoholic and seduced him in order to conceive a child. How she passed the pregnancy off as Tony Jones to everyone in town, knowing that he had recently lost his own flesh and blood daughter. Then how she turned on him and yanked Michael away, claiming Jason was the real father and left Tony practically insane with his marriage and career in ruins. By the time Nik finished, Courtney didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

But she lied. She whispered. Jason doesn't tolerate liars.

Nikolas shrugged. I don't know why but when it comes to Carly, your fiancé is a blind man. He would do anything she asks him to, even if it means giving up the love of his life. He told her meaningfully.

And Robin put up with this? No wonder Carly thinks she's a Saint. Courtney spat out.

I can't tell you Robin's story. But I do know that she is one of the kindest, warmest people I've ever known. She saved my life once. The treatment she got from those 3, Carly, Sonny and Jason was undeserved. They nearly destroyed her.

My Lord. What happened?

Well, if you have a passport you're about to find out. Emily interrupted.

Why where am I going? Courtney asked.

To Paris.

Why?

To meet Robin Scorpio.

Stop fidgeting! Emily Quartermaine snapped at Courtney Matthews for the 12th time since landing at Charles de Gaulle International Airport. She leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes as the Paris Countryside whizzed by outside the window. Thank God were almost there She thought to herself, That girl is so nervous, I'm going to need a Valium to calm myself down just from being near her.

The blonde in the seat across from her continued to rub her palms on her thighs. She'd never been to France before, but at that moment, the beautiful architecture of the centuries old buildings and quaint charm of the Old World City was completely lost on her. Get a grip, Courtney. She's not going to bite you. She muttered under her breath.

Nikolas Cassadine, seated comfortably next to Emily, took pity on her. Courtney, relax, enjoy the scenery. He motioned out the limo window just as they past the Arc de Triomphe.

Sorry, She smiled weakly back at him. I'm worried. What if she refuses to let us in? What if she hates me on sight.

Hmph. Came from Emily, a small smile played at the corners of her mouth. That's not going to happen. First off, she's expecting us. She sent the car. Secondly, just calm down. When you meet her, you will learn Robin is one of the least judgmental people to ever walk the earth. Oh, you do remember the rule's right?

Yeah. She'll talk when she's ready to and she wants to get to know me a little first. Which is why we will be gone for 1-2 weeks.

What did you tell Jason? Nik asked.

That I was going to bond at a spa with my soon to be sister in law in Europe. He didn't seem to care one way or the other. He was glad that I would spend time with Emily but otherwise no interest at all.

At that moment, the vehicle pulled to a stop in front of a large town house bordering the Seine on the Right Bank. The house occupied at least half a city block and was built in the 19th century. In the waning sunlight it glowed a romantic gold. Emily thanked the driver as all 3 passengers piled out. As he sped away Courtney started to have a fit. Our luggage!

Um Court, he's driving around back where the garage is located. One of the staff will move it up to our rooms. Nik explained patiently. Let's go inside, the doorman is waiting and it's hot out here.

No one told me she was wealthy. wailed Courtney. Everything I do or say will be wrong now.

Robin doesn't own the house. It belongs to Dimitri Marrick, otherwise known as Count Andrassy of Hungary. He's her uncle. He married her Aunt Alex so once Dimitri met Robin, he decided her tiny apartment wasn't good enough for her and offered her this house to stay in.

Oh. It sure is beautiful.

You haven't seen the half of it yet. Wait til you go inside. Emily smiled and swung a friendly arm around the stressed blonde and led her to the door.

The man holding up the door open led the 3 travelers into a large foyer distinguished by a black and white patterned tile floor and a huge double staircase to the upper floors. The coolness inside was a welcome relief from the stifling summer heat and everyone breathed an audible sigh at escaping it.

MADEMOISELLE Scorpio est dans l'étude, vous pouvez la joindre là-bas. (Miss Scorpio is in the study, you may join her there) He said motioning to the double doors behind the stairs.

Merci beaucoup le Monsier Theriault. C'est bon de vous voir encore. Emily responded warmly. (Thank you very much Mr. Theriault. It is good to see you again)

Et vous Manquez Emily, mais s'il vous plaît m'appeler Alfred. (And you Miss Emily, But please call me Alfred.)

Butler. He's the sweetest man. Emily whispered Courtney as Alfred swung open the doors and announced them.

MADEMOISELLE Emily Quartermaine, M. Nikolas Cassadine et MADEMOISELLE Courtney Matthews, Manquer Robin.

Merci! Alfred. Called a tiny brunette woman who now hurried forward and embraced Emily tightly. Em, it's so good to see you! And your Highness. She gently teased Nik by curtseying low.

Hey, knock it off! He chuckled pulling Robin into a long hug. Lord we miss you back home.

I miss you too. You both look great! She pulled away and turned to the stranger in the room. But where are my manners? You must be Courtney. She smiled warmly and offered her hand. I'm Robin Scorpio.

Courtney was suddenly in complete awe. The woman standing before her was nothing like what she expected. Petite, with small, delicate features and creamy porcelain skin that blended well with the long rich brown haircut stylishly to frame her face. She wore a white silk fitted camisole top and a pair of lavender stretch capri pants, which showed off her toned, trim practically perfect body. All of these things presented a very nice picture but it was another feature that changed Robin from being just another pretty face into a stunning beauty; her eyes. Large and a dark chocolate color, they also allowed the viewer a glimpse into the owner's soul. One look in them and Courtney felt she had known Robin all her life.

Thank you for agreeing to this. She finally stammered out feeling like a bumbling oaf next to this gorgeous creature.

But Robin sensed the woman's unease and kindly put an arm around her shoulders. You must be tired from your trip. Alfred will show you to your rooms and after you freshen up, we can meet down here for dinner...Oh one more thing. Do you speak French? She asked Courtney.

Um no. Why? Courts guard went up. OK, she's going to make fun of me for being stupid, that's why Carly hates her so much.

But Robin surprised her again. Because all of the staff here speak English. Alfred will give the order that if you are in the room they are to speak your language so that you understand what they say and don't feel like they are talking behind your back. I do hope though that while you're here you'll let me teach you a few words. It will make your next visit a little more fun.

Aren't you going to tell me that- Courtney stopped herself. This isn't Port Charles, she obviously doesn't think you are stupid, just go with the flow Court. Um, thanks, I think I'd like that. She smiled shyly at her hostess. She allowed Albert to lead her away reluctantly. At that moment all Courtney wanted was to make Robin her friend. The thought surprised her more than she ever thought possible.

A few hours later curled on the sofa with a glass of Cabernet and a stomach full of exquisite French cuisine, Courtney thought maybe she died and went to heaven. She listened as Robin, Emily and Nikolas told stories about growing up in Port Charles and all the adventures they experienced. Some were sad, like Emily losing her mother and Robin losing her parents, others where just plain funny like the backstage squabbles between Lucy Coe and Katherine Belle at the Nurses Balls. The weirdest part of all was that she didn't feel left out. Robin made a point of asking her questions about her own childhood and asking for her opinion on every topic. For the first time in her life Courtney felt like part of the group and she enjoyed it immensely.

As it grew later, she stifled a yawn not wanting the evening to end but her host spotted it immediately. It's late Court, why don't you go on up to bed. What would you like to do tomorrow? Robin asked.

Well, I've never been here before, so I don't really know. Courtney couldn't believe someone was asking what she wanted. Usually Carly took the lead and she followed.

Ahh, a newbie. Great! I love playing tourist. We'll go see some of the sights. Robin clapped her hands with delight.

Well, count me out. I'm going to lie in bed all day long. Emily sighed with happiness.

I think I'll stay with Em. Nik said with a mischievous grin. Not in the same bed of course. He hastily added when Emily smacked the back of his head.

That leaves just you and me then. Robin looked back at Courtney.

Sounds great. Goodnight. The blonde replied and headed for the stairs. Outside the door she paused about to go in and ask what time she should get up when she heard Emily speaking.

What do you think of her? She asked Robin.

Courtney held her breath, sure that something negative would spew from the too good to be true woman's lips.

Robin took a moment before answering. Would you be horribly upset with me if I told you I like her? Because I really, really like her.

Of course not, Emily responded. You wouldn't be you if you didn't.

Hearing those words made Courtney happier than she had been in a long time. Not wanting to be caught eavesdropping, she turned and ran up to her room with a silly grin on her face. As she climbed into bed she silently thanked whatever trick of fate had brought her to this place and time because for the first time ever in her life, she felt she finally found a true friend.

Courtney Matthews never imagined when she flew to Paris to meet her fiancés ex-girlfriend that she would gain a friend. She expected suspicion and a distant demeanor at best and downright animosity and hatred at worst. Instead, she found Robin Scorpio to be the warmest, most open person she ever met. 3 days passed in a blur of sightseeing. She still couldn't believe when Robin asked her opinion of a place or piece of artwork she really wanted an honest answer. At first Courtney attempted to discern how Robin felt and give the right answer based on the response. However, her companion was more intelligent than that and gently prodded until Courtney soon spilled her real thoughts. When Robin didn't laugh or belittle her or tell her she was wrong the way her sister-in-law did back home, she grew bold and often expressed how she felt before being asked. Her favorite moment so far had been the Louvre Museum and Leonardo da Vincis The Joconde better known as The Mona Lisa.

What was she...her secret I wonder. Robin said, studying the portrait. Her eyes are so thoughtful and that smile has just a hint of mischief in it.

I think she had a love whom no one knew about. In that moment she dreamed of him and the artist captured that expression for an eternity. Courtney answered.

Robin turned to look at her new friend. I think you might have something there Court. I've often wondered about her life, was she married, did she have children. I'll bet the lover wasn't her husband.

Exactly! Courtney elaborated on the story. She began an illicit affair no one knew about because she was trapped in a loveless marriage.

If they were found out, both would have been condemned! Robin added.

It's all so romantic. Courtney gushed and the 2 chummily moved on to the next painting.

By far the worst moment came on her 3rd day in Paris at lunch. Emily finally ventured out with them to do some shopping and catching up with Robin. For the most part, everything went well. The young women all got along, laughed together and enjoyed themselves. However all the fun abruptly halted when Emily asked Robin about the Protocol.

How are your viral loads?

Fine. Still undetectable, a zero count. Robin answered. They recently made some adjustments because of new research findings. I responded well.

And being a Doctor? How do your patients react when they find out? Emily asked.

For the most part, Ive been working with people with HIV/AIDS. It helps because they aren't as worried about transmission and some of these men and women are in serious need of medical attention. When there is a need for me to work with an uninfected person, I'm up front about my condition, then they or their loved ones make an informed decision. Paris is a lot more tolerant than the US, so usually there is no problem.

Condition? What condition? Courtney looked at Robin in confusion.

My HIV. Robin answered automatically.

You have...but I didn't...Did Jason? I mean... The young woman looked petrified as she stammered trying to make sense of this new information.

Robin gasped as the realization hit her. You didn't know? Jason never told you? She asked in horror.

Courtney shook her head no unable to speak as tears filled her blue eyes.

I am so sorry. I assumed you knew. I never kept it a secret. Robin put a comforting arm around the sobbing woman's shoulders. If it helps, he never contracted the virus.

It isn't your fault Robin. I should have known. I was aware Stone died of AIDS but I just thought you didn't have intercourse with him because neither Jason nor Sonny ever mentioned you having it too. I figured if you did one of them would have told me about it. I am so stupid.

First off Courtney that is about the 9th time in the past 3 days I've heard you call yourself stupid. You aren't stupid, you just haven't had the privilege of college and believe me there is a world of difference. You didn't have the opportunities for an education the way I have, you learn quickly and have some very insightful opinions, so stop putting yourself down. Second, it was Jason's responsibility to tell you about his sexual past, not your job to automatically know. Nor was it anyone else in Port Charles job. He's negative so technically you weren't at risk but he still should have told you.

It's just another secret, another lie on top of all the one's I've already been told. Courtney sniffled trying to compose herself. So many more things are starting to make sense to me now. Jason told me that you controlled the sexual relationship, when, where and all that stuff. I thought maybe you were frigid especially since Carly calls you the ice princess. But knowing you now I understand you were afraid of hurting him. Robin you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if Jason got sick. He's obviously twisted a lot of stuff around to suit his own purposes.

That may not be true. I mean, what he told you is probably how he saw it. I held back for a long time even though it was Jason's decision to make as much as mine. Robin countered.

Emily gave a small, bitter laugh. That is so like you Rob. Here's Jason keeping information from his fiancé then distorting your relationship with him so he looks like a great guy you betrayed for no reason at all and you defend him. She shook her head at her friend.

Emily's right Robin. I'm having a tough time reconciling what I have heard with the person I now know. There has to be a lot more to your relationship. Courtney responded.

Well, I guess it's time then. Let's go back to the house. Brenda should be there by now and-

Brenda Barrett? Courtney asked. You know her?

Yeah, she's my best friend. When she left Port Charles, she came to live with me. She's been away for a romantic holiday with my cousin Aiden. But they were due back this afternoon.

Nice! Said Emily, Wait til you see him Courtney...Humana, Humana, Humana!

I'd like to lie down for a while, if that's OK. Courtney said. I have a lot to think about.

I understand. Robin nodded. We'll talk after dinner.

Several hours later Courtney made her way downstairs and stood in the kitchen watching Robin and Emily attempt to teach Nikolas how to bake a chocolate soufflé. She smiled softly at the trio and tried to remember if she ever had a friend quite like the young doctor.

A female voice interrupted her reverie. I know that look. Brenda Barrett chanted as she approached the blonde. You're falling in love with her aren't you?

Um, Brenda, hi. I'm not, I mean I... Courtney blushed right to her roots.

Oh sweetie don't worry about it. I'm not either and I'm in love with Robin too. Brenda linked her arm with the younger girl. She's my girl crush. Has been for as long as I can remember. She's so amazing. You know when I came to Port Charles; I didn't have many friends. I'm a guy's girl and I didn't get along too well with other women. But Robin was different. She didn't judge me or talk about me behind my back or go after every boy I wanted. She just accepted me, even tried to be like me in a lot of ways. In the end though, it was me who wanted to be just like her. Robin is the strongest, bravest, most beautiful person I know and I thank God she's in my life.

Yeah, she's pretty special and I do have the hugest crush on her. Courtney agreed. I don't understand why Carly hates her so much.

You might after you hear Robin's story. Brenda said. But I have a funny feeling the only opinion it's going to change is yours about Carly. Come on let's go help or we'll never get dinner.

After a filling meal and several bottles of wine, Everyone settled in the study ready to listen to Robin. Brenda curled up next to Aiden Devane and Emily lay down on a sofa with her head in Nikola's lap. They all knew part of the story but no one ever heard the entire thing so all waited anxiously for Robin to begin.

First, please don't think less of me or Jason or Sonny or even Carly after I tell you this. I'm not putting blame on anyone. We all played a part and are different people now. Robin started off saying.

I won't Robin, but I have to know. Courtney looked down at her hands and rubbed them nervously on her thighs.

OK, here it goes. I guess I have to start with the beginning, with Stone the first love of my life.

Robin spoke in soft, tender tones as she remembered that endless summer when anything seemed possible, when she met a beautiful, perfect boy who thought she was a beautiful perfect girl. Stolen kisses, stolen moments, stolen days of love. It felt so right and so amazing. She remembered feeling so complete when she was with him. She defied her uncle and together they sealed their love with reckless abandon. And then, he got sick. She took them through his illness, how hard he fought but to no avail. How she and Sonny bonded over their mutual love for this brave young man...How she found out she was positive but tried to be strong for Stone. And then in the end how the disease ravaged his body and stole his eyesight and he died in her arms and she thought she would never really live or love again.

Courtney brushed away the tears that fell down her cheeks. She wanted desperately to comfort Robin but Brenda beat her to it. I still don't believe Sonny broke his promise. She whispered wrapping her arms around Robin and squeezing her tightly.

It's OK Brenda. Robin sighed taking a deep breath to get her emotions under control.

What promise was that? Courtney asked innocently.

He made a promise to Stone. Brenda answered. To always lookout for Robin, to always make sure she was happy and cared for. Stone was a brother to Sonny but I guess Jason was more important.

Brenda don't. Robin pleaded.

No. She deserves to know what her brother did. Courtney, do you know I betrayed Sonny? I wore a wire on him. I thought I was doing the right thing but it all got screwed up. You see, he kept telling me he was out of the business. Like a fool I believed him. And then one day, someone broke in and tried to gun me down while I was in the shower. I was so scared, I let people talk me into wearing a wire to help Sonny. It backfired and he left me. In that whole time, Robin never chose sides. She was a true friend to me and still a friend to Sonny. Do you think he could do the same for her? Hell no! Brenda spat out angrily. When Robin told AJ the truth, Sonny turned his back on her because she betrayed Jason. He didn't have anything to do with the situation and he chose Jason over the woman who he swore to a dying man that he would take care of, he chose Jason over the woman who never judged him and brought him back from the edge when Lily was killed.

Courtney looked horrified. But that would mean-

That Sonny is a hypocrite? Yeah well sorry if your big brother isn't all you thought he was. Brenda sat back down next to Aiden who pulled her close and nuzzled her neck in a comforting gesture.

Robin looked down and continued her story. She talked about how she thought her life was over. All she felt was numb and how the loneliness threatened to consume her. And then Jason Morgan came along. He was the boy without a past and she was the girl without a future. Together they found a love deeper than anything Robin ever knew or even dreamed about. She taught him to feel and love and in exchange he gave her life. She thought it would last forever, but Carly Roberts had other ideas.

On into the night she told her story, one of an amazing journey she took with Jason Morgan. She spared none of the details but was completely open with her audience. She told them of her fears that he would get hurt in the business so she asked Sonny to fire him and the argument that ensued.

Jason: When I woke up after that accident, I looked around and there were 2 people, only 2, who seemed to know what they were doing that made any sense to me. And that was you and Sonny. So I watched you guys. If people said 'Hello', you said 'Hello' back. If people would cry, you would touch them right here. (points to his heart) When people made a certain face that means they told a joke and you laughed. And I watched how all these things worked Robin. And you were the best at them than anybody. So when you told me to do something, I did it. To wear a watch, to say goodbye when you hung up the telephone, to be nice to the Quartermaine's, and to only have a certain kind of sex and only when you said. See I didn't know this meant you thought you were in charge of me. So, if you need an excuse use that one.

Robin: Could you and everyone else in the world just do me one little favor? Don't look up to me okay? I didn't die and go to heaven. God didn't appear to me in the clouds. Think I'm pretty. Think I'm smart. Whatever makes you happy. But I'm too damn little to be anybody's patron saint. You know what? I didn't do this because it was best for you. I did it because it was best for me! And if I'm going to lose you it is going to be because you walk away, or because I hate your guts, or because one of us did something unforgivable, which maybe I have. But you know what? I don't care. Because the one thing I am not going to do is put somebody else I love in a grave.

When Robin remembered the first breakup, another realization hit Courtney. Jason told her that Robin tried to control his life, had gone to Sonny to get him fired. But hearing the other side put a whole new perspective on everything. Robin had lost everyone who mattered to her and was scared of losing Jason too. That wasn't being a control freak, it was a normal reaction to seeing someone's boyfriend get shot. She interrupted to say so but Robin stopped her.

I know Court, but I still shouldn't have done it. Robin immediately took responsibility for her own actions. With her, there was no blame, no running from the part she played.

She moved on to Carly and how she entered their lives. She spoke of Jason's infidelity with Carly and how she forgave him. She told the story truthfully and openly not holding back on her own mistakes and not even painting Carly as the only villain. In the end, the secret Robin was keeping, the lie's she allowed her friends and family to believe, were killing her day by day. She couldn't sleep, she couldn't eat, she lost weight and Jason didn't even notice. When he said he wanted to move in with Carly and Michael so they could be a family and asked Robin to be his woman on the side, she knew he no longer loved her and she ended it. Then came the final confrontation with Carly and the cruel words the other woman spoke caused something in Robin to snap. Without rhyme or reason she went to AJ and finally unburdened her heart. She regretted only that she hadn't told Jason first and given him time but deep down, she knew the relationship was over, Jason would always choose Carly. For some reason he looked past her lies and unbalanced behavior and forgave her for everything he would never tolerate in anyone else. So Robin met him at the bridge, told him what she did and said goodbye. She had to in order to in order to save herself but his final words, It would be easier if I never saw your face again. Still rung in her head when she remembered them and hurt her deeply.

Everyone in the room stared at the young woman stunned. For the most part they knew what happened but no one realized the strain Robin had lived under for those last months. Emily and Nik both moved to embrace her but Robin held up a hand to stop them. No, I'm not finished. What I'm about to say, I've never told anyone before. When I got to Paris, I was in bad shape. My health was at risk but I ignored the warnings and threw myself into my studies. I was exhausted, couldn't keep food down and cried all the time. Finally, my friends dragged me to the doctor. He ran some tests and I discovered I was pregnant. Robin broke down in sobs unable to control her emotions any longer. I tried to call Jason, I left messages but he ignored me or never got them. I wrote letters but they were returned unopened. I was sick all the time and losing a lot of weight. I tried so hard but... Her entire body shook with the memory of what had happened. I decided to take a walk one night thinking the fresh air would do me good. In the park I felt a terrible pain...and when I looked down-

Robin, baby, don't do this to yourself please. Brenda pleaded, tears rolling down her cheeks.

I have to. I have to get it off my chest. Robin whispered. I was covered in blood. I collapsed. If my roommate hadn't followed me I would have died out there alone. She got me to the hospital and they saved me but I lost my baby. She was crying almost uncontrollably now. I lost Jason's baby and he never even knew.

No one moved or said a word. How did Robin bear that loss alone? How could Jason have treated her that way? Emily and Brenda were sobbing softly into their boyfriend's shoulders and Nik and Aiden were wiping away tears of their own. Finally Courtney moved toward Robin. She knelt in front of her and pulled her hands away from her face. Shhh...It's going to be OK Robin, you aren't alone anymore. She wiped the woman's tears away, took her into her arms and gently rocked her while they both cried for the loss of a child and the loss of a perfect love.

Robin Scorpio sat in the middle of her kingsized bed staring at Courtney Matthews as if 2 heads suddenly sprouted from the other woman's neck. What did you say? She asked.

When I go home, I'm ending my relationship with Jason. The blonde replied.

Courtney, I don't want this to be because of me. I couldn't live with myself if our relationship was the wedge that drove you 2 apart.

Courtney sighed and climbed on the bed to sit next to her new friend. Robin, it is in large part because of you, but not in the way you think.

What do you mean.

When I came here 2 weeks ago, I expected you to be, well honestly, A stuck up snot. I thought you'd give me some brief explanation of your history with Jason painting him as the bad guy and kick me out the door faster than I could say, Hi, I'm Courtney. What I got instead was a warm, honest person who let me in her inner circle without blinking an eye. Not only that you accepted me for who I was. You let me express myself and expected a real opinion not something I thought you wanted to hear. When you told me about your relationship with Jason, you took responsibility for your own actions and didn't blame anyone else for the outcome.

Robin smiled. Well I'm glad that you feel that way about me, but what does that have to do with you and Jason?

For the first time in my life, when I came here I fit somewhere without having to change who I was. I never felt that in Port Charles. With the Quartermaines, I was too good for AJ but not good enough for the rest of them. Liz's friendship had too many conditions. And Sonny, Carly and Jason...I don't belong with them either. They keep too many secrets and Carly expects me to be exactly like her. If I do something she doesn't like, I'm wrong not different. I care a great deal for Jason, he's rescued me from a lot of dangerous situations. But I'm learning that adrenaline doesn't mean love. Besides most of those situations were brought about because of the business he's in. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think I love him, not in the way he deserves and I know he doesn't love me in the way I deserve either.

Wow. Robin hugged Courtney. When did you get so wise?

Courtney shrugged. I don't know. Maybe you're rubbing off on me.

Her friend laughed. I don't know about that. Are you going to tell him you met me?

Yeah. I think it would be dishonest not to. I'd like to do something if you don't mind.

What? Robin asked.

I'd like to tell him, about you know...I think he has a right to know.

I dunno. Robin sighed running her hands through her long dark hair. He might already know and he just chose to ignore me. Besides, it isn't your place.

I thought you would feel that way. Which is why I have another plan. Courtney looked at Robin pointedly.

I can't go back there. I'm not ready for that. Robin whispered.

Robin, you are strong enough. Don't sell yourself short. But I knew you wouldn't go so I want to bring your letters to him.

The one's he returned to sender?

Yes. You still have them don't you?

Of course I do. How do you know me so well after only 2 weeks.

Because you let me.

Robin crawled off the bed and walked to her armoire. Opening the doors, she dove into the corner and came out with a small hatbox tied with a pink ribbon. There are even phone records here from all the times I left messages. For the life of me, I don't know why I kept it all.

Because you planned on giving it to him one day. Courtney said simply.

You aren't mad at him are you? We all played a part, we all made mistakes.

No. I thought about it. But I know that isn't why you told me what happened. And it wouldn't be fair. It would be like Sonny turning his back on you. I just think he has a right to know and I'd like to give something to you because you've done so much for me.

Robin handed the box over to Courtney with tears brimming in her chocolate eyes. Thanks.

Brenda Barrett burst in the door and immediately noticed the tense atmosphere. Hey! Hey! No crying! Tonight is a celebration. She whipped out a bottle of Cristal from behind her back.

Woo Hoo! She broke out the good stuff! Emily Quartermaine came in pushing a large cart laden with junk food. Party time! She slammed the door and locked it.

Hey let us in! Came the muffled cry from Aiden and Nikolas.

Hell no. Laughed all 4 of the girls. Pajama parties are for girls only! Then Brenda popped the cork on the champagne and poured it into 4 flutes.

They raised the glasses in the air. To us. Friends forever.

In the morning, she didn't want to go. Courtney dragged her suitcases into the hall before being caught and scolded by Albert. It's our job. He told the flustered girl gently.

Merci Albert. Je vais vous manquer et cet endroit. (Thank you Albert, I'm going to miss you and this place.) She said using the carefully memorized phrase she made Robin teach her. Then she impulsively hugged the older man and kissed him on the cheek.

I'll miss you too Miss Courtney. He smiled at her. It has been a pleasure serving you. You have a good heart. Now it's time to go down to the foyer, everyone is waiting.

She climbed down the grand staircase looking around her reluctantly for the last time.

There you are. Emily cried. We have to go. Ned needs the plane back this afternoon.

Robin greeted her with a hug and a soft smile. You OK? She asked patting the blonde woman's cheek.

I don't want to go. Courtney whispered tears slipping down her cheeks.

You have to Court. You have a life in Port Charles. And you have obligations. Robin sighed. I don't want you to go either. I'll miss you.

Courtney now! Emily snapped and kissed Robin on the cheek. If you want, I can kick Jason's ass for you. And Grandfather hates Carly; he'll gladly hire someone to kill her if I ask and tell him it's for you.

No Emily. That's the past and not your concern. But thank you. It was wonderful to see you.

Seriously, The Cassadines are powerful. Stephan hates Corinthos. At a snap of my fingers-

Nik stop it. Robin laughed. Thank you. Take care of Emily OK? She's like a sister to me. And watch out for this one here. She motioned to Courtney.

You got it. Anything for you. He hugged her and then it was Courtney's turn.

Can I come back and stay? Courtney couldn't stop the tears.

Of course you can. Robin answered tears of her own brimming. I love you Court.

I love you too. Courtney smiled. Bye Robin. The 3 friends waved one last farewell before walking down the steps to the limo.

Wait! Brenda Barrett shrieked running out. I want to say goodbye and Courtney you tell that no good son of a bitch ex husband of mine- Robin clamped her hand over her friends mouth quickly.

What she means is Bye, have a safe trip. See you soon. She called after the trio. Then both women stood and watched as the car pull away.

Courtney sighed as she walked into an empty penthouse. Of course no one greeted her at the airport. She had hoped but really deep down she knew her so called family probably forgot. Carly probably had an emergency and we all know the whole world revolves around Carly. She thought to herself and went to start packing the rest of her belonging.

3 hours later, Jason Morgan wandered in exhausted from more of a day of chasing Carly trying to stop her out of control wedding plans. Courtney's absence didn't deter her one bit. In fact, one would think Carly was the one getting married. She even tried to choose the other woman's dress for her. He shook his head in frustration. When will I ever learn. He thought to himself as he tripped over Courtney's suitcase and almost went flying.

Shit! He swore softly. Today was the return date and he hadn't even noticed. Truth be told, Jason really hadn't missed his fiancé all that much. He knew he cared for Courtney but it wasn't love. Mostly he was marrying her because she was nice enough and Carly approved. The 2 weeks she was gone seemed like mere hours compared to all the times Robin had gone away. There it was again. Another thought about the woman from his past. For some reason Jason couldn't stop thinking about the girl who would forever own his heart and the closer the wedding got, the more he thought about her.

Jason, is that you? Courtney called from upstairs.

Yeah, uh welcome home. Sorry I didn't go to the airport.

That's OK. Could you come up here for a bit? I have some things I need to talk to you about.

Yeah sure. Jason quickly scaled the stairs. If nothing else, at least the sex was good.

Upon entering the bedroom he shared with Courtney, Jason received a huge shock. His intended sat at the edge of the bed surrounded by boxes. A quick glance at the open closet doors showed that all her clothes were now packed and all her personal mementos disappeared. In her lap was a small round box tied with a pink ribbon.

Uh, Courtney, what's going on? Jason asked confused.

I'm moving out. Our relationship is over. She stated.

Why?

Because the last 2 weeks opened my eyes to some stuff. She told him. Jason, Emily and I didn't go to a spa. We went to see an old friend of hers.

OK. So what does that have to do with us?

"Nous sommes allés à Paris. J'ai rencontré Robin Scorpio. (We went to Paris. I met Robin Scorpio.) She told him using another carefully rehearsed speech knowing he would understand.

Jason stared at her in surprise. Why?

Because I had to know the truth. No one here would answer any of my questions. You all treated me like I didn't have a right to know.

You didn't. It's none of your business. Jason angrily replied.

Not even that you slept with her and she's HIV positive? Courtney shot back.

Jason had the grace to look down shamefaced. I'm sorry. But I-

What? Don't tell me you didn't think it was important. My Lord, you're supposed to protect me yet you kept something like that a secret? You aren't who I thought you were.

So what did she tell you? Jason asked looking in her eyes and holding her gaze.

The truth. Oh Jason, don't look so bewildered. She insisted on getting to know me first. And she didn't put blame on anyone. In fact she took way more than her fair share if you want my opinion.

What's that supposed to mean? His demeanor turned cold.

Jason, Did you really expect her to put up with Carly's antics? Give me a break here. Did you ever put yourself in Robin's shoes? Here's a woman you cheated on her with, completely in love with you and ripping into Robin every chance she got. And you Courtney laughed bitterly. You just let her. Did you know that Carly threw her HIV up at Robin every chance she got? She taunted Robin with the fact that she gave you a child and Robin would never be able to.

Jason's mask slipped and a look of surprise came into his eyes. He sucked in his breath slightly but remained silent.

But it isn't my place to tell you what you should have been aware of all along. Besides, it doesn't really have any bearing on me leaving you.

Then why?

Because we aren't right for each other. You know it as well as I do. I don't fit into your world. Over the past 2 weeks, I've come to realize that. I barely missed you and I want more from my life than just being a mobster's wife. Seeing another part of the world made me realize that. I'd be selling myself short, and if you're honest with yourself so would you, if we went through with this marriage. Courtney patiently explained.

Jason nodded. Where will you go?

The cottage. Brenda Barrett gave me permission. Jax sent her the deed to the house. I think he felt guilty. She shrugged and got up to leave. I'll always care about you Jason. I hope we remain friends. She gently caressed his cheek. Someone will come by for my stuff tomorrow.

OK. He hugged her tightly. Courtney, how um how is she?

She's good, She became a Doctor. She's a pretty amazing person and I'm proud to know her. The woman smiled. She sent this for you. Courtney handed him the box she had been holding. You need to read what's inside.

Jason stared at the box as if it would explode. OK. He gulped.

As she reached the door, Courtney turned back one more time. One last thing Jason. I faced your past and it's time you do the same.

What do you mean? He asked slightly confused.

You still love her, you always will. She answered softly and walked away.

Jason watched her leave than sat down on the edge clutching the hatbox in his hand. After a few minutes he tore at the ribbon and lifted the lid. The parcel was filled with letters addressed to him in Robin's elegant script but each one contained the words return to sender, refused. The postmark on each envelope indicated Robin sent them starting about 5-6 weeks after she left. Why had he never seen them before? There were at least 25 letters and some phone bills. Scanning the itemized call list, he saw his cell and the penthouse number at least 30 times. Again he could not explain why he never got the calls.

Slowly, tentatively he opened the first letter, the one that had been mailed first. The paper was rippled as if it had gotten wet, and some of the words were smeared. Robin cried as she wrote this, he realized and then began to read.

Dear Jason,

I know you don't want to hear from me right now, and I really don't know how to tell you this...I'm pregnant.

Jason Morgan couldn't stop the tears from falling down his cheeks. As he finished one of Robin's letters he tossed it to the floor now strewn with paper. Each page he read filled him with pain and despair. 6 weeks of calls and letters all filled with detailed notes on the progression of her pregnancy, each containing a quiet air of desperation. She'd been terribly sick and almost completely alone. He looked down into the box, realizing he'd almost finished. Only 2 more remained.

He took the top one out. Different from the others because it was in a large manilla envelope rather than airmail and someone else had addressed it. He felt the bulk inside before tentatively opening it and withdrawing the contents. Another envelope addressed to Robin was wrapped in a group of papers, which he realized, made up a medical report. He scanned it quickly for a hint of her condition, his heart stopping as he read the words potentially life threatening blood loss, hospitalization and finally miscarriage. The last sheet was a typed letter.

Dear Mr. Morgan,

I am writing because Robin asked me to. She is currently incapacitated having suffered the greatest loss of her life. She asked me to be polite and to just let you know she lost her baby and to return the letter sent to her. Shes got a good heart and always puts others before herself but I'm not capable of simply letting you off scott free, you heartless son of a bitch. You see I found her in a pool of her own blood in the park. She told me she was going for a walk but she was more upset and agitated than usual. Seconds after she left, I found the letter you sent and knew the reason why. Take your blood money and shove it up your ass, you fucking dick. The least you could have done was written the letter yourself instead of having that whore you call your friend do your dirty work. Does it feel good knowing you hid behind a woman's skirts? Does it feel good that you got your wish granted and you get your money anyway? I hope this eats you up inside...you almost killed her and you murdered your own child. Live with it.

In case you have doubts concerning the validity of Robin's claim, enclosed is a copy of the medical report.

Miss Andrea Tracy

The bitter anger in the note surprised him, until he glanced at the envelope addressed to Robin. Immediately Jason recognized the handwriting and swallowed hard, Carly. With extreme trepidation he removed the paper inside and began to read.

Dear Saint,

I told you I'd win and I did. Jason loves Michael so much that all I had to do was threaten to take him away and Jason would do anything I asked. It was so easy really especially since you being so nice would never tell him the things I told you. Jason is now and forever my puppet on a string. I yank and he responds how I want him to. I even convinced him that you tried to control his life. What a laugh, as if you could ever control any man. All you are is a sad, pitiful girl who got AIDS all on her own because you're a stupid slut and can never give Jason the one thing he wants, A child!

He doesn't believe you are really pregnant, however if you are, he definitely doesn't want some diseased little brat running around. So he asked me to send you this check so you can abort the baby. And just remember like he told you the last time he saw you, he never wants to see your face again. Goodbye Robin.

Carly

Jason just stared at the letter in complete shock not understanding how this woman he brought into Robin's life could be so incredibly cruel. She must have followed that night and spied on them. He knew he never told Carly what was said on the bridge. Why would she do this? He glanced at the check, a forgery but a very good one, in his writing. A measly 50,000 for the life of his child. Seeing it must have been like a knife in Robin's heart, he knew it was killing him.

Bitter pill to swallow, Slidin down my throat

Bitter pill to swallow, How it makes me choke

How the hell am I gonna find, Happiness and peace of mind

When I'm losin all the time?

YeaBitter

His mind went back to that last night on the bridge with Robin. He'd been so angry at her, failing to listen to a word she said, using words he wished thousands of times since that he could take back.

Don't you ever call me, I don't wanna see your face

Don't you dare to call me, don't darken up this place

What the hell dya expect from me? Emptiness and misery

Took it all away ya see

YeaBitter

He'd tried time and time to forget her betrayal, to forget how it hurt him to know she'd been the one to tell AJ the truth. For days after she left he felt only numb. He played the martyr well telling himself time and time again she didn't matter. Robin meant nothing. Her actions successfully destroyed their relationship. He never acknowledged he'd left months earlier.

Ooh it means nothin to me

Ooh you mean nothin to me

Ooh it means nothin to me

I paid the price

Sacrificed

Sacrificed

Standing in his bedroom now, fury building in the pit of his stomach like acid eating at his soul, he finally saw clearly what he'd been blind to. He spent weeks running to Carly every time she called. She said jump and he said How high? Each time, he asked Robin to wait, asked her to lie, asked her to be someone else. Every time she tried to tell him, he walked away not hearing her. Our love is all we need. He'd said, but to her the words must have seemed hollow and empty.

Bitter pill to swallow, How can I abide

The taste of rage and anger, Burnin me inside?

How the hell will it ever change?

Slowly drivin me insane let me cover up this pain

YeaBitter

Slowly, he began to gather the letters, still thinking of the past. Robin's image flashed before him. That last night, her face so pinched and drawn. Huge dark circles floated under her eyes and even in the heavy coat she shivered. How much weight did she lose from the strain he had placed on her? How much of her soul had Carly's constant attacks torn apart?

When I'm feelin low and there's no place to go

And I'm on my knees fallen back down on the floor

And Ive had enough and the situations tough

And I'm holdin on by my nails

Holdin on hopin I won't fail

This is what reality is made of cant

You see I'm relatively twisted

They'd nearly destroyed her, he finally admitted to himself. He played just as big a role as the woman he'd allowed into their lives. Robin tried to tell him that Carly would take Michael away and in the end she did. She'd tried in her own quiet way to tell him she'd reached the breaking point. What did he do? He left her, to live with his family and added insult to injury by asking she be his mistress. He'd treated her like a cheap whore.

Laid myself upon you, underneath your feet

Laid myself upon you, didn't that look sweet?

Before Robin left for good, he'd told her she'd taken HIS son away from him. She'd answered simply, How can you take something away that never belonged to you in the first place? And now he allowed himself to recognize that truth, something that before Carly, he'd never had trouble with. Carly took Michael away, she took him from Tony, from AJ, from him. And then, as if that wasn't enough, she took his real flesh and blood child from him as well.

Finally the truth has come, guess I knowed it all along.

Nothin else I could have done

Yea

Bitter

Bitter

I'm bitter

So bitter

Looking down, he saw he'd put everything away in the box, except the last letter. Once again in Robin's elegant script, addressed to him but never mailed, he tore it open. The top was dated about 2 months after the miscarriage.

Dear Jason

I'm so sorry for losing our child, for hurting you, for everything. I hope you find the happiness you seek. I forgive you and I'll always love you.

Robin

At the last words, his vision blurred again with tears. He couldn't breathe, his anguish and anger threatened to strangle him. He grabbed the hatbox and ran down the stairs. He had to get out or he couldn't be held responsible for his actions.

He pounded on the door across the hallway with his fist until a bleary eyed Sonny Corinthos opened the door.

Where's Carly? Jason demanded.

She's at the casino man, she flew there this evening to plan out your honeymoon. What's wrong?

The wedding is off. Keep her there though because if I see her, I will kill her.

Whoa, whoa, back up a minute. Sonny said confused. Come in and start at the beginning. He stepped away from the door and Jason stormed by. I thought Courtney was at a spa with Emily. How can the wedding be off? What happened?

Sonny, she went to Paris. Jason replied and watched, as the older mans eyes grew wide with shock. To meet Robin.

Why?

Because we kept too many secrets from her. She wanted to know the truth. Jason explained running his hands through his hair and pacing back and forth. Courtney called off the wedding because she realized we weren't right for each other.

So Robin poisoned her mind against you? Sonny asked not quite able to believe that scenario.

No, not according to Courtney. Robin was the model hostess, she took her share of the blame and didn't say anything bad as far as I could tell.

I take it you didn't argue with Courtney. It was a statement not a question.

No, I don't love her and she's right. We'd both be making a horrible mistake.

But what got you so upset?

Jason slammed the hatbox he still gripped down on the bar. Robin sent that back for Courtney to give to me. In a burst of anger he picked up a glass and threw it at the fireplace. As it shattered into a million pieces Sonny stood and stared at his friend, waiting. She was pregnant when she left. Did you know that? I didn't. She wrote me time and time again, all the letters were sent back. She called too. That box contains every thing she wrote to me. I didn't get any of it, not the phone messages, not the letters, nothing. But someone did.

Carly. Sonny whispered, rubbing his temples.

Sonny you need to read them. We betrayed Robin far worse than anything she ever did to me.

OK. What are you going to do? Sonny watched Jason cross to the door.

I'm going to go for a ride. I need to clear my head.

Sonny nodded as the younger man turned and ran out. He slowly picked up the package Jason brought and opened the lid. He took out the first letter and began to read.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Several hours later glass could again be heard shattering inside the closed doors of Penthouse One. Sonny ripped the entire place apart in a rage that only when there was nothing left to smash, finally ran it's course.

Taking a deep breath he pulled out his cell and quickly dialed. Ric, He barked into the phone. I need you to draw up some divorce papers for me. My marriage is over.

After hours of riding his bike aimlessly, Jason found himself in familiar surroundings. Still the same after all these years, he dismounted the motorcycle and walked to the spot he'd first seen Robin standing. He didn't know then, but that beautiful sad girl would change his life forever. He sighed deeply and stared down at the water. Tears again filled his blue eyes as he spoke in between choked sobs. I never meant to hurt her. She was so pure, so perfect. How could I screw it all up so badly?

Minutes turned to hours and he continued to cry, standing alone on a bridge that once meant so much. Finally he pulled himself together. He took out his cell and dialed a number. Emily...It's Jason. He whispered. No, I'm fine. I need a favor, if you're willing. I mean I'll get the information with or without you but it would help a lot if No Em, I promise, I won't hurt her, I'll try not to at least. Hell, she probably won't even talk to me. Thanks. I owe you one. I love you Em. I won't screw up this time.

He quickly dialed again and held his breath with anticipation. The other line was picked up on the 3rd ring.

Bonjour, Robin Scorpio. The dark haired woman answered laughing at a joke her cousin had just told her.

Jason couldn't speak, the sound of her voice put his heart and head into a tailspin.

Bonjour? Who is this? She stopped laughing, her own heart pounding in her chest.

Still he couldn't answer her. He longed to reach across the Atlantic to caress her soft skin, to hold her and take all the hurt he'd caused away.

She knew almost instantly from the erratic sound of his breathing, from the failure to speak, from a bond that time and the span of an ocean couldn't sever. Jason? She whispered as her eyes filled with tears.

Robin...I...I'm so sorry. Please forgive me.

Carly Corinthos stepped out of the elevator at HarborView Towers and approached the guard standing at the door to Penthouse One. After being stuck on her husbands private island for 4 days without contact from him or her best friend Jason Morgan and with no one to pick her up when her flight landed, she was in no mood to be messed around with.

Hey you! She barked to Johnny O'Brien who had the pleasure of door duty at the time. Where the hell was my driver at the airport? Where the hell is my husband? And why the hell are you just standing there? Open the door and get my bags from downstairs.

No. Johnny replied and didn't move.

WHAT? Carly stared at the man. You insolent piece of trash. You'll be fired for this. I never liked you anyway. She rooted through her purse until she found her keys muttering under her breath the entire time. You go away for a few days and people forget their place.

Johnny just smiled knowing what was in store for the soon to be ex Mrs. Corinthos.

Carly shoved her key into the door and turned it, pushing with her shoulder at the same time. It wouldn't budge. She tried key after key with the same result. Finally in desperation she stamped her foot at Johnny. Open this door right now and maybe you'll live to get another job.

Look lady, Johnny answered sarcastically. Things have changed around here. For the better if you want my opinion. Ask me nicely or you'll never get in that door.

What? Carly shrieked. Fine. Just know that as soon as I talk to Sonny, you'll be a dead man. Please open the door for me.

Sure thing. First address me by my name.

Carly sighed ready to go postal on this guard who seemed to have a death wish all of a sudden. James will you please-

Eeh, wrong name. And use the last name to.

What's your name again? Carly asked through clenched teeth.

Johnny, Johnny O'Brien.

Fine. MISTER JOHNNY O'BRIEN, will you please open the door?

He grimaced at her and unlocked the door. Wait here, while I see if the boss will see you.

What? I live here you idiot and the boss is my husband. She shoved her way past him into the penthouse. Sonny! Sonny...Where are you? Get down here now.

She stopped short when she saw the room. All of her carefully selected furniture, accents, toss pillows, plants, everything had disappeared. The entire room had undergone a transformation in 4 days. It once again looked like a dark bachelor pad, with one exception. Every inch of spare flat space was covered with framed photographs. They sat on the mantle, on the bar, on the side tables, the coffee table...all with one face laughing back at her. Those brown eyes, so warm and intelligent. Robin Scorpio smiling with Stone, with Sonny, with Jason, with Brenda, with Lily. At the Nurses Ball onstage giving a speech, hugging friends, lying with Stone in his hospital bed.

For the first time she noticed the dark haired man sitting on the couch. Her temper already frayed beyond repair exploded. What in hell's name are you doing here? She screamed. I don't know how you got in here or what kind of sick joke you're playing by changing my home around and putting up all these pictures but-

Ric Lansing looked up from the paperwork he had been reviewing and smiled sweetly. Well, it's nice to see you too, Carly. I'm here because I was invited. I have business with your husband...and you. He said almost as an afterthought.

I don't care if the God Damn Pope himself asked you to come here. Sonny will kill you when he sees what you've done to this place.

Ah, you must mean the redecorating. I must say, I never knew Sonny had such good taste. This place always used to like one of those home improvement shows gone bad. What don't you approve? He asked with amusement twinkling in his eyes.

I'm not talking about the furniture, you moron. The photos! How dare you put up photos of that, that sanctimonious twit who-

Careful Carly, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Sonny Corinthos said softly as he came down the stairs. His eyes, cold and dark never left his wife's face. Ric, thanks for coming. Is the paperwork in order?

Yes. It's all here. All I need is your signature. And Mrs. Corinthos of course. Ric answered.

Good. Sonny scribbled his signature at the bottom of the page presented to him. Sign it Carly. Again his order came with no emotion, just that steely-eyed glare.

Too confused and disoriented to argue, she snatched the papers and with a flourish of the pen placed her name at the bottom.

Well that should do it. Ric said picking up his briefcase. I'll file these papers in the morning. Since no one is contesting, everything should be finished by the end of the week. I'll be in touch. With that he walked out the door leaving the married couple alone.

Not contesting what Sonny? Carly turned to her spouse. What the hell did I just sign?

Our divorce papers Carly. In less than 7 days, we'll no longer be legally tied together.

What are you talking about? For the first time in a long time, Carly felt real fear. Sonny seemed so distant with her. Sonny, you love me.

No I don't. I don't think I ever did. He answered his voice as hard as nails.

She did this. The blonde woman grew angry, picking up a picture of Robin. I don't know how, but she managed to poison your mind against me in 4 days. So what? She shows up in town and on our doorstep crying some sob story about big bad Carly and you decide you've had enough of me? You take the word of that lying home-wrecker after everything we've been through? How dare she even show her nasty face in this town again after what she did? Where is she staying? If she's got something to say about me she can say it to my face!

No Carly. Robin isn't here. Sonny looked at his wife with hatred in his eyes. She's in Paris where her life is. I'm afraid this time like most of the messes you land yourself in, you brought this all on yourself.

No. NO! Carly yelled. What did she do? What did she tell you I cheated on you?

Aren't you listening? Sonny calmly walked to the bar and poured himself a drink. Robin didn't tell me anything. She wouldn't stoop that low.

Then what? Why have you changed? You love me Sonny. Her eyes filled with tears as she walked up to him and tried to put her arms around him.

Get off me! He pushed her away roughly and she stumbled back breaking the heel off of her sandal.

Sonny. Carly pleaded. What did I do? Her face was now streaked with tears and she began to sob quietly into her hands.

Why did you intercept Jason's mail when Robin left Carly? Sonny asked. The room went deathly quiet as she looked up at him. ANSWER ME! He yelled making her jump.

Genuinely terrified now, Carly began to stammer. I...I...don't know what you're talking about.

Then I'm sure you don't know about the phone messages either. Was the bitter cold response.

Well, I might have erased one or 2 but she kept calling and pestering him. Jason didn't need that. He was hurting so badly by what she did. She gasped as Sonny took an envelope out of his breast pocket. Where did you get that?

Why so scared Carly? If you don't know anything why does this letter worry you so? He was taunting her now, giving her just enough rope to hang herself.

She laughed uneasily thrown off guard. Well, she kept saying she was pregnant and Jason didn't want anything to do with her or the baby. Michael was the only child he wanted and-

You took it upon yourself to pay her off?

Well, Jason wrote the check, I just mailed it for him.

LIAR! Sonny exploded. How dare you stand there and tell me that Jason paid Robin to have an abortion. How dare you insinuate that she was lying about her pregnancy! And how dare you send back all the letters and erase all the messages without letting Jason decide for himself. I read this letter Carly. It is cruel and calculating. You deliberately drove Robin and Jason apart and then you took his child from him.

No! She yelled back. Robin did it all. She tried to run Jason's life. She couldn't handle the fact that Jason and I were a family so she destroyed it! He didn't want her! It was the desperate whine of a woman who knew she was fighting a losing battle.

She told the truth. Sonny hissed at her. What you did was far, far worse. You controlled him more than Robin ever tried to. Or do you not remember this. He took out the letter and began to read: Jason is now and forever my puppet on a string. I yank and he responds how I want him to. I even convinced him that you tried to control his life. What a laugh, as if you could ever control any man. All you are is a sad, pitiful girl who got AIDS all on her own because you're a stupid slut and can never give Jason the one thing he wants, A child! He folded the letter and began to put it away as Carly ran up to him and tried to snatch it out of his hands. Ah, ah, ah. Didn't anyone ever teach you it's not nice to read other people's mail? Is that how you really feel about people with HIV? That they're stupid and ignorant? My brother died from AIDS you selfish Bitch! He shot out at her, trying desperately to control his temper. His fingers itched to wrap themselves around the tender white flesh at her throat and squeeze until there was no life left in her.

Well, Robin was supposed to be so smart. But she was just dumb. She deserves what she got. And I didn't know about Stone then. Now I do and I know it was probably Robin's fault he got sick.

Sonny walked to the fireplace and picked up a frame. He ran his fingers over the face of the beautiful girl smiling at him. I broke a promise I made to a dying man when I shut Robin out of my life. I disrespected her and Stone's memory when I married you. You see, I thought that I didn't deserve any better. That's why it was so easy for me to forgive your lies, and schemes, your countless betrayals even though I couldn't forgive Robin for telling the truth. I didn't care that it made me a hypocrite because I didn't really love you. What you did couldn't possibly hurt me. But from today forward I am keeping my promises. What you did to Robin and Jason is unforgivable. We are over Carly. You are dead to me.

Sonny please! Carly cried out, the tears streaming down her face smudging her mascara. You don't mean any of that! She ran up to him, hobbling on her broken shoe and clung to his arm grasping his jacket frantically.

ENOUGH! Sonny yelled yanking his arm away from her, sending the woman sprawling backward onto the floor. Carly, we are finished. Your things have already been moved to the townhouse you bought last time we split up. You get a nice support package and full ownership of The Cellar. If you have any questions feel free to contact Ric. He walked to the door and opened it waiting for her to leave.

She scrambled to her feet What about Michael? If you do this you'll never see him again. Carly threatened.

Oh, you mean my son? The same child that you told the entire town was Jason's? The same child you used to drive a wedge between Jason and the only woman he'll ever love so you could have Jason for yourself?

Jason loves Courtney! Carly shouted. And that woman ruined my life!

No Carly. You tried to steal hers. Only Robin was smarter than you ever gave her credit for. In fact, shes far more intelligent than you will ever be. When she realized what was happening, she took the only option you left for her. She told the truth. In the end, you got her to leave but you never really got her life. You certainly didn't get Jason.

How dare you! She raised her hand to slap him but he was too fast and grabbed her wrist.

I dare because I can, little girl. Sonny smiled softly. And as for Michael, I will share custody with you. Don't try to fight it or I'll take this letter and publish it in every major newspaper in the country. You don't stand a chance.

You heartless bastard. I will get you for this. When Jason finds out what you've done, he'll kill you.

You go tell your sob story to him all you want Darlin. Sonny replied staring at her with eyes as dead as the darkest night. Now get out of my sight. You disgust me. He pushed her out the door and slammed it in her face.

Carly's sobs echoed throughout the building as she pounded on the door to Penthouse 2. Jase! Open up please. I need you to help me! She cried. Please Jase! I need you and Courtney now!

Johnny O'Brien stood by quietly laughing at the woman who stood banging on a door to an empty apartment.

Open this door! Carly demanded.

I don't take orders from you anymore. Besides, if he wanted you to come in, I'm sure he would have given you a key. He smirked at her.

You asshole! She shrieked kicking at him. Where is he? He's supposed to be here when I want him. She turned back to the door and again began to beat against it with her fist. Jase! Jason!

Um you're going to have to yell a lot louder than that.

Why? Where is he? She pleaded with Johnny.

In Paris.

Carly stared at the man blankly before a fresh wave of tears trickled down her swollen face. She leaned back onto the door and slid slowly to the floor. Her head dropped to her hands and she sobbed with misery, yielding to a deep sense of hopelessness as her formerly perfect world crumbled around her.

Jason Morgans ice blue eyes flooded with relief when he saw the petite brunette enter the café. She'd come. He hadn't expected even this small victory when days of scouring the city for the love of his life turned up nothing. Finally, he'd broken down and called her. The angry words she fired at him still rang in his ear when he asked her to meet him. She'd hung up then not giving him an answer and he spent a restless night positive that she wouldn't show and his hurried trip to Paris would fail miserably.

He saw her glance around the small restaurant, searching him out. Her expression lit up with fury when she finally spied him at the corner table. She strode over to him, annoyance building with each step.

Jason. She hissed when she was standing before him. What are you doing here?

It's nice to see you again too Brenda. He answered.

Oh, can the chitchat Morgan. We both know you want something. Brenda slid into the seat across from him ready to do battle. I'm only here to make sure you stay away from her. You've caused her enough pain to last a lifetime.

Where is she Brenda? He asked quietly, his eyes never leaving hers.

What? Your little network of intelligence cant track her down? Brenda laughed. I guess you didn't consider her family connections to the WSB. They've kept her personal information top secret ever since Anna came back from the dead.

Anna? That's her mother right? Robin's mother is alive? Jason's shock registered on his face.

Wow, you really didn't keep tabs on her when she left did you? Jesus Jason, she could have been killed or kidnapped...or sick. She threw at him noticing the flash of pain across his chiseled features with the last words. You didn't even care. Was Carly worth it? Was she? Oh, that's right she wasn't because the minute your back was turned she slept with your best friend and then she married him. But of course to you that wasn't a betrayal. It was just Carly being Carly. But Robin, sweet, kind Robin tells the truth and shes condemned by both you and Sonny. You really think I'm going to let you near her again?

Don't play little miss innocent Brenda. You let her think you were dead for 4 years. I watched her mourn for you! Jason shot back.

Look, I screwed up OK. I was a coward. But for some reason she forgave me and we moved on. But you...you almost destroyed her. Robin trusts me now and I'm not going to ruin that by letting you hurt her again. The beautiful brunette stood up to leave. Just remember Jason, she doesn't want you here. Go home.

Wait Brenda. If you don't want to help me why did you come? Jason asked, his frustration growing.

To tell you to back off. You had your chance Jason. You blew it. End of story. Robin told you when you called to stay away. Respect her for once in your life. Do what she wants.

Brenda?

What? She snapped exasperated by his tenacity.

How does she look? How is she...really? The desperation in his voice softened her heart.

She's more beautiful than ever and stronger than anyone I've ever known. But there's a sadness to her now too, as if she's been branded by heartache and a loss to great to measure.

I caused that. Jason bent his head in shame.

Brenda nodded slightly. She doesn't see it that way. She blames no one. But please understand Robin is protecting herself. That's why she won't see you. Goodbye Jason. I hope you have a good life. On impulse she bent down and kissed his cheek before turning and walking out without a backward glance.

Once she was gone, he rose from the table quickly throwing money down to cover the bill. He dialed a number on his cell and spoke in a low tone, careful not to be overheard. Yeah, she just left. Follow her. I want the address of every place she goes. Whatever you do...Don't lose her.

Courtney Matthews buzzed around her knew home in a cleaning frenzy. She'd never lived on her own in such a nice place before. Everything seemed new and exciting and she wanted it to be perfect.

In the living room, on the desk in the corner, a neat stack of college applications sat, waiting to be mailed out. Since meeting Robin Scorpio, she felt she could accomplish anything and an education was what she wanted. The essay had been the biggest obstacle but a few calls to her new friend and some positive feedback from Emily helped tremendously. With a little luck, she'd be attending PCU in no time at all.

Sonny smiled broadly when she told him. Courtney, I want the best for you. College can open a lot of doors. Wherever you go, I'll pay the entire cost.

But that's too much. She protested. I can get a job and pay for part of it.

No. You can repay me by working hard and getting your degree. And by enjoying yourself and making good friends. He flashed his dimples and hugged her tightly.

I'm glad I could make you smile. She told him. How are you doing?

I have good days and bad. But I'm going to be alright Sweetheart. He told her. I don't regret what I did. Carly was poison.

I still don't believe she wrote that letter to Robin. Courtney shook her head. You know, Robin never said anything. I bet she even forgot it was in that box. She certainly didn't try to make me hate Carly. In fact, she told me I had no right to judge because I wasn't there.

That's just like her. Sonny sighed running his hands through his hair. I messed up Court, I ruined the best friendship I ever had. I'm glad you got the chance to know her. Robin's heart is pure and she's loyal and true. I couldn't have picked a better friend for you.

I know. She's amazing. She made me feel like I could do anything.

Me too, Sonny smiled. Me too.

The doorbell stopped Courtney's dusting. Just a minute. She called out putting down her cloth and polish. She went to the door and opened it expecting to find Mike or even Emily. Instead for the first time since before she flew to Paris, she came face to face with the former Mrs. Corinthos.

Carly looked awful. Puffy, red eyes stared out of her face. Her hair hung in greasy locks and her clothes were rumpled as if she'd slept in them. She pushed past Courtney into the living room. So this is where Jason shipped you off to when he broke up with you. Who decorated this place? It looks like a dump.

I did. Courtney replied frostily. What do you want Carly?

What you want. To get Jason away from the clutches of that evil whore and get our lives back. If we work together we can have everything we want. I know that Jase loves you Court. He's just confused.

Um...I don't think whatever you have planned is going to work. Courtney tried to keep her temper under control.

Of course it will. Jason will come home soon. I'll cry on his shoulder a little bit. He'll forgive me like he always does. I'll get him to see once again that the Saint isn't anything but a home-wrecking tramp from hell and that you are meant for each other. Sonny will understand that I'm right and we'll all go back to being one big happy family. So are you in or out? Carly asked turning to face her former sister in law.

Definitely...out! Courtney replied ice in her tone. Carly I think you better leave now.

Why are you acting like this? Carly burst out incredulously. I mean all that snotty little witch has done for you has been to swindle you out of a fiancé and the love of your life. Who would have thought she'd pop out of the woodwork like that, sending Jason all of the letters she wrote whining, Oh I'm pregnant...help me Jason. Waa, Waa, Waa! How dare she try to ruin our lives for a second time? Well I drove her out of Jason's life before, and I'll do it again.

Finally the anger Courtney struggled to keep under control exploded. Look Carly, let me set you straight! She shouted. I have listened to you insult Robin for the last time. I am not joining in any of your harebrained schemes to screw up Jason's life AGAIN!

Well, well, what's this? When did you grow a spine? Carly spat back at her.

When someone taught me that I was worth more and deserved more than being your little puppet. Snapped Courtney.

Who would that be? Carly asked already knowing the answer.

Emily and I didn't go to a spa. We went to Paris.

Oh. So what? Emily dragged you to meet the Saint!

No Carly! I asked to talk to Robin. She graciously allowed me into her home and got to know me. She didn't judge me or order me around or roll her eyes every time I expressed an opinion that differed from hers. She treated me like an equal on every level. And yes, she told me the story of what happened between you, Jason and her.

That BITCH! She blamed it all on me didn't she? No wonder you turned on me too.

No, again you're wrong Carly. Did you ever bother to get to know Robin? Or where you so blinded by getting what you couldn't have that you just tried to rip her to shreds the second you met her? Courtney's voice was calm but cold.

Of course I tried to get to know her. She was so high and mighty and smug. Everyone loved her. But I-

You what Carly? Couldn't stand that she had everything you always wanted? Do you ever think about anyone but yourself? She shook her head in amazement. For your information, Robin didn't blame anyone, unlike you. And those letters, they were nothing compared to the one you wrote. Courtney smiled at the shock on her former mentors face. Oh yes, I know about the letters. I'm the one who ASKED if I could bring them to Jason. Still, Robin didn't share any information about your correspondence. Sonny showed me that. You cruel, heartless bitch. How dare you stand in my living room and pass judgement on a woman you know nothing about. How DARE you insult her and tear her down when all you do is lie and manipulate and hurt people! Robin was nearly destroyed by what you did! And yet when you got what you swore you wanted more than anything else in the world, you turned around and threw it all away for Sonny. You ruined Jason's life out of a purely selfish need to see if you could get what you wanted. You make me sick!

How dare you! You were nothing before me. I got you in with Sonny. I got you a gorgeous guy! You repay me by going behind my back and befriending that slut. You little whore! Carly shouted.

The crack of Courtney's hand as it hit Carly's cheek reverberated throughout the room. GET OUT! She screamed at the woman before her as a finger and palm shaped welt began to form on the other woman's face.

You'll regret this. Carly hissed as tears spilled out of her eyes.

Maybe I will. But something tells me I won't. Courtney whispered. She shoved Carly out the door and slammed it shut as the other woman pounded from outside.

You were nothing without me! I made you what you are. You OWE me!

I paid my debt in full. Courtney muttered under her breath as she picked up the phone. Port Charles Police Department? I'd like to report a disturbance. I need to have a woman forcibly removed from my property.

For 3 days Jason watched her, learning her routine by heart. The simple sight of her dark brown hair swelled his heart with a love he never dared to believe he would feel again. Lord, she was beautiful. Stunning even. Every time he saw her smile, his breath caught in his throat. Watching her from afar was all he had left. He knew Robin didn't want him there, but he had to make sure she was OK. That she had love and health and the life she deserved.

Robin Scorpio jogged out her front door into the crisp autumn morning. Instantly she felt his eyes on her for the third morning in a row. She wondered how long it would take for him to approach her, or even if he would. As she ran toward the park, she listened for the low rumble of the motorcycle he was riding, telling her he was behind her again.

After 2 miles she slowed to a walk and sat down on a bench waiting. When the bike stopped she stood and walked toward him.

What are you doing here Jason? She asked him quietly. After all this time, his beauty still overwhelmed her. That firm chest and spiky blonde hair and piercing blue eyes.

How did you know? He responded drinking in the melodic sound of her voice.

I felt you. Robin whispered reaching out a hand to gently caress his cheek.

I just wanted to make sure you were alright. Jason smiled and took her tiny hand in his, pressing his lips against her palm and squeezing it gently.

I told you not to come. She pulled her hand back as if she'd been burned. Her dark chocolate eyes filled with tears and a single drop rolled down her skin.

He automatically reached over to wipe it away; I couldn't stay away.

Why.

Because. Jason's own sky blue eyes spilled over. I love you. I never stopped.

Robin Scorpio stared at the man before her, unable to move. Her head spun with the impact of his words, 3 words she never dreamed of hearing from him again. She took a deep breath, trying to buy time to gather her thoughts. Should she tell him of the love still inside her and risk the pain again? It was too late. Too many years had passed and though Jason would always own her heart, her trust vanished long ago, lost in the storm of their relationship when promise after promise was broken. Jason, I- She began haltingly. I don't know-

Shhh. He whispered back. Don't say anything Robin. I threw you away. I ruined the most precious thing in my life. I know a few words don't mean anything. But I'm not asking for you to love me. Just give me a chance to be your friend, to get to know you again and be a part of your life. Maybe someday you can forgive me.

She sighed, self-consciously tugging on her ponytail and brushing her bangs away from her eyes. She looked at him, searching his face for any hint of the apathy that used to accompany his expressions after he allowed Carly into their lives. What she found startled her and she felt a familiar tingle deep in her stomach. His love for her shone through in eyes so tender, so sad. I forgave you a long time ago. She said softly. It doesn't mean I'm not still angry because I am. But we both made mistakes, we both did things we regret. I've always been more upset with me. I allowed myself to make you the center of my universe; I depended on you for everything, friendship, love and my own happiness. You didn't deserve that.

I suppose but Robin, I saw what my choices were doing to you. I knew you were unhappy but I continued to put every other priority I had in front of you when you were the most important person in my life. I'm sorry for that. He looked down at his boots and shuffled his feet uncomfortably.

I'm in a really good place now Jason. I'm happy, independent, healthy. She saw the relief flood his face at her last words. I can't go through that pain again. It nearly killed me.

I don't want to hurt you. He shook his head forlorn and dejected. Be happy OK? So long as I know you're alive and living your life, it will be enough. He moved away from her and mounted the bike.

Just the thought of him going filled Robin with dread. She knew she wanted him in her life one way or another. On impulse, as he began to put on his helmet she stopped him. The Jason Morgan I knew would never give up so easily! She teased him, a twinkle in her eye.

He looked up then smiling tentatively, unsure how to respond. Do you mean...I...can we? His lips broke into a full fledge grin as he realized she was offering him a grain of hope.

Yes Jason! She laughed. Lets start over...as friends.

Carly Corinthos woke up after a night of drinking herself into oblivion with a raging hangover. Her mouth felt like she'd been licking the pavement and she reeked of stale cigarettes and cheap wine.

Slowly she sat up and placed her feet on the floor. Rubbing her makeup smeared eyes, she moaned softly as her head pounded in protest at her movement. A wave of nausea hit her and she lurched unsteadily to the bathroom expelling the contents of her stomach into the toilet.

Ha, can't hold your liquor babe? A deep, gravely voice called from the bed. Keep it down would ya? I'm trying to sleep here.

Carly's head shot up in horror. Who the hell is that? She thought to herself as she glanced down at her naked form covered in scratches and love bites. Searching her brain for a name, she rose and rinsed her face with a splash of cold water. She stared at herself in the mirror, disgusted with the sight. Frantically she scrubbed at her face trying to clean the filth of the strangers touch from her skin. Look Kevin, You need to leave. Carly tried to keep her voice pleasant and calm. It was fun while it lasted but my husband will be coming home any minute.

The name is Jack and you ain't got no husband. I've watched you at Blackie's every night for the past 2 weeks. Every night you take a different guy home and all of them say ain't no man livin here with you. He shot back at her.

Fine you know my little secret, but you still have to go. She felt her temper rising.

I'm not going anywhere bitch. Now get your ass back in here and take care of me. His voice rose loud and angry.

Now Carly's heartbeat faster. She opened the door and got her first good look at the man in her bed. He was huge with a long scraggly beard and several tattoos. He looked like the type that wouldn't hesitate to use violence on a woman if it meant getting his way. Think Carly! she fearfully searched the bathroom for any type of weapon that could help her out of the situation. Suddenly she remembered the gun Jason insisted she keep in the bedside table last time she lived here. Now she just had to get to it before this brute Jack realized what she was doing.

Hurry up you little whore! Jack yelled from the bed.

Carly took a deep breath and plastered a smile to her face. Hold on big guy. She stepped into her bedroom and seductively made her way to the bed. If you wanted another go round, all you had to do was ask. She straddled herself over his body and leaned down kissing his neck. He reached up to grab her breasts roughly kneading them.

That's more like it. I'm gonna screw you so hard you're gonna walk bowlegged. Jack leered up at her. He tried to grab her and shove her down onto him but she pulled away.

Ah, ah, ah! She giggled and leaned over to the bed opening the drawer. No glove, no love

Didn't stop you last night but whatever floats your boat babe. He chuckled indulgently. Hope you have extra large.

Before he could blink, Carly pressed her pistol against his head. It's loaded, and believe me Asshole, I'm not afraid to use it. She climbed off of him and motioned to the door. Now get your skanky ass out of my bed and out of my house and don't ever come back.

Fine, fine. Jack stuttered, struggling to put on his pants and shoes as he hobbled to the door. Crazy bitch! He mumbled as he stepped out into the day. You were the worst lay ever! He yelled back at her as she fired a shot narrowly missing his head and then cackled with laughter as he ran down the walk and drove off in a blaze of squealing tires.

Mommy, what's going on? Michael stood on the stairs sleepily rubbing his eyes. Immediately Carly's euphoria at getting herself out of a bad situation died with the realization that she was standing in her living room, naked and holding a gun while her 6 year old watched. She lunged for the sofa and wrapped a blanket around herself.

Nothing Michael. Just a salesman. He's gone now. You can go back to sleep sweetie. She looked at him, relieved when she saw that her small son was still too sleepy to have seen her or the man.

Wow they keep coming earlier every day. Michael yawned and climbed back up the stairs disappearing down the hall.

Once he was out of sight Carly sank to the sofa and sobbed into her hands. Her life was a mess. Every night since her encounter with Courtney she brought home someone new trying to fill the empty void inside her. A revolving door strange, faceless men but nothing seemed to work. Sonny and Jason were no longer around to pick her up and clean up after her. She did this! Carly thought angrily. Little Miss Saint! She turned everyone against me! If it's the last thing I ever do, I'll make her and all the people that hurt me pay!

For 2 weeks Jason Morgan lived in a blissful dreamworld. Slowly but surely Robin was letting her guard down around him. She told him about her life in Paris, working as a Doctor primarily on HIV/Aids research and education. How her mom was alive and more beautiful than ever. She told him about her plans and dreams.

He'd seen her every day since their encounter in the park and though sometimes the pace of their relationship seemed agonizingly slow, he was grateful for every moment spent with her. He already realized he wanted way more than just friendship with this woman, but knew he had to move slowly, to regain the trust he'd lost. One thing he was sure of, now that he had a foot in the door, he would never stop fighting to win her love.

Robin Scorpio spent 2 ecstatic weeks basking in the attentions of Jason Morgan. His sincerity shone through in everything he did for her. She was starting to trust him more and more each day, sharing her life with him. The worst moment came when she introduced her cousin Aiden Devane to him. She thought for sure the 2 men would hate each other on site, but both surprised her, bonding over a mutual desire to keep her safe and happy.

She'd spent time with Jason every day since their encounter in the park, and though sometimes she felt she was offering her heart to him way too quickly, she already knew she could never go back to living without him. He completed her in a way no one else could. One thing was sure, now that she had a chance, she'd never runaway from him again.

They sat together on the sofa in Robin's living room as the afternoon light streamed in the window, watching old movies and munching popcorn. Though they started out on opposite ends of the couch, gradually both crept toward the center until his arm draped lightly around her shoulders, her head rested on his shoulder and her legs lay over his lap.

When his cell rang, it startled them both and they pulled away guiltily like 2 kids caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

Morgan. Jason barked into the phone, uncharacteristically flustered by the interruption. Hey Sonny No I'm doing OK. She's here with me now. He smiled at Robin softly. What? His tone grew serious and Robin looked at him with concern. OK. When? Carly? Is she OK? I'll be on the next flight out. Sonny, just watch over her for me, I can't lose her Sonny, I can't! He hung up the phone and rose from his seat agitated. I have to go. He whispered.

I know, Carly. I couldn't help overhearing. Robin replied trying to hold back tears. She bent her head in silent defeat. 2 weeks and already I'm the second priority she thought in her head.

Robin. Look at me. Jason gently tilted her chin up so he could look into her beautiful chocolate eyes. It's not for Carly, but something she did. She could see his vivid blue eyes filled with concern and worry.

What is it Jason? She searched his expression for any clue.

Emily, she's in a coma. He answered, looking away so she wouldn't see his eyes well up.

Oh my gosh! Robin felt cold fear grip her heart.

Apparently, someone tampered with her dose of chemo. The police believe it was Carly.

Hours after the ominous phone call, 4 weary travelers arrived in Port Charles. They slipped quietly into a waiting limousine and headed toward General Hospital. Robin Scorpio squeezed Jason Morgan's hand in a gesture of tender comfort, telling him with her eyes and a small smile she would stay with him every step of the way.

Aiden Devane held Brenda Barrett close to his chest. Since hearing the news that Emily Quartermaine lay in a coma, she'd spoken little. Her silence worried him to no end. It wasn't like the beautiful spitfire to give up on anything without a fight let alone a close friend.

The sleek black vehicle pulled to a stop outside the doors of the large brick building. The companions spilled out and into the waiting room where they were greeted with a shocked gasp.

Robin...what are you doing here? Alan Quartermaine approached the petite brunette, engulfing her in a tight embrace before noticing Jason behind her. Are you? He looked from the woman to the man and Robin instantly knew what he referred to.

No. She shook her head. We're working on friendship right now. Jason came to see me in Paris. He was there when Sonny called. How is she?

Alan placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. We can't tell yet. Whoever did this gave her an overdose of Gamma-hydroxybutyrate. It induced the coma and she just regained conciseness a little while ago.

GHB? The date rape drug? Robin's forehead wrinkled in consternation. She should have come out of it sooner than now. How big was the dose?

We haven't been able to discern that yet. Alan looked down. I'm glad you're here though. He turned to Brenda next and held out his arms. She went to him gladly, tears in her eyes. You look well. He whispered kissing the top of her head.

Alan, she has to be OK. Emily is part of my family. I just got her back in my life. Brenda sobbed softly.

We'll do our best Brenda.

Can we see her Alan? Jason asked abruptly. He had no patience for chitchat and reunions at that moment.

Yes but one at a time only. Room 1152

Jason looked at Robin waiting. Go ahead. I'll be there in a moment. She reassured him.

Um, I won't be long. He turned and walked away from the small group.

Where's the rest of the family? Robin asked.

Monica is with Em, A.J. will be here later, Grandfather is home with Lila, Ned and Skye are around here someplace.

Robin nodded relieved she would miss seeing A.J., a confrontation she dreaded. I'd like you to meet my cousin, Aiden Devane. She motioned to the striking man behind her. Aiden this is Dr. Alan Quartermaine.

The 2 men exchanged pleasantries before Alan excused himself from the group. I wonder why Skye didn't leave town. Brenda murmured. After all, she isn't a real Quartermaine.

Bren, this isn't the time for that. Besides, I think you landed on your feet after Jax left you at the altar. Robin winked at Aiden who grinned.

Yeah, I think I'll buy that bloke a beer when I meet him! Brenda's playful smack only made him laugh. He caught her hands and planted a soft kiss on her lips. Glad to see some of your spirit Luv.

I'm glad you're here with me. She whispered back.

OK you 2...let's go see Emily! Robin softly chastised the 2 secretly delighted they found each other. Together they walked down the hall to visit their friend.

Turning the corner, Brenda spotted him first. Maybe because her heart would always be inexplicably drawn to him, like a moth to a flame. No matter how often she singed her wings, she kept going back for more.

She sighed heavily and tried to turn Robin away. You know, I'm feeling a little peckish. Lets go get something to eat. She motioned with her head to the dark haired man loitering in the hallway, trying to enlist Aiden in her quest to not let her friend see the man who turned his back on her. Naturally the overzealous movements alerted Robin almost immediately.

Brenda, is something wrong with your neck? She switched into Doctor mode and attempted to diagnose her friend. Then her eyes met his. He smiled that dimpled smile that never failed to warm her heart in the past. Sonny. She whispered and stopped short.

Don't worry sweetie, I'll take care of him. Brenda assured her. Aiden, take Robin to the cafeteria. I'll get Jason and-

No Brenda. Robin cut her off. I can take care of myself. She advanced toward the man she once considered her big brother, the one person she had believed she could count on forever and in the end, the one who hurt her the most. Within seconds she stood in front of him, silently searching his eyes, looking for a window into his soul.

Under her close scrutiny, he broke. His eyes filled with tears and he turned away to compose himself, murmuring softly, I'm so sorry sweetheart, I'm so sorry.

Without thinking she gently clasped his hands to her chest. I know. She sighed. I've always known, Sonny.

He pulled her to him crushing her to his chest in a hard embrace. I love you so much. I don't deserve your forgiveness but if you're offering, I'm taking it.

I forgave you a long time ago.

But why? He asked completely surprised by her easy acceptance of him.

Robin loosened his grip on her so she could look at him. It took me awhile...but I finally realized, you saw your chance and you took it. By choosing Jason, I would finally be out of your life, and then and only then would I be safe. Sonny, once you said that I would be the one thing in your life that remained pure and untouched, but you knew I would never abandon our friendship. So when I told the truth to A.J., you pushed me away. In your own way, you protected me and kept your promise to Stone.

You are so amazing, Robin. What did I do to deserve you? He openly wept, drawing her close again and tucking her head under his chin.

Michael Corinthos, you are better than you know. I've seen your heart. Don't forget that. Robin's own tears ran down her face. Finally, after years, she felt at home.

OK, OK you 2 cut it out! Brenda gulped out. You're making me all weepy.

It's alright Luv. Aiden put a protective arm around her shoulders.

Yeah, yeah, but I'm such a sucker for a happy ending. She blubbered making the other 3 laugh and effectively breaking the more somber mood.

Jason poked his head out the door of Emily's hospital room smiling when he saw Robin tucked under Sonny's arm. He knew she would forgive him. Another reason he loved her so much was the amazing capacity she had to let go of the past and accept people, mistakes and all. You can see her now Robin. She asked for both you and Brenda. Monica said it was OK.

Thanks Jason. Are you OK?

Um, yeah. She's alright. I'll be out here. I need to talk to Sonny for a minute.

About Carly?

He nodded and kissed her forehead. Go on, she's waiting.

The 2 women went inside the sterile hospital room. Emily Quartermaine lay pale and quiet on the bed. Hi guys. She croaked out. Sorry to put you through so much trouble.

Hey now, no trouble at all. Robin took her friends hand in her own. I always knew you'd drag me back here one way or another.

Hey you! Brenda cooed from the other side of the bed. You know, that hospital gown does nothing for you. Didn't any of my fashion sense rub off?

Emily giggled weakly. I'm glad you're here though. It's time you both came home and stayed.

Robin and Brenda looked at each other. I don't know about moving back. But were here now. If you need anything, just ask. Robin answered her. I'm going to talk to your mom now OK? Brenda will stay with you. I love you Em, you're like a sister to me.

Ditto Robin.

Well, I hate to interrupt this mushy sentimental junk...but where is that man of yours? Brenda abruptly changed the subject as Robin went to the older woman in the room.

Hello Monica.

Robin, Monica rose and enfolded the small brunette in her arms. It is wonderful to see you again. We all miss you so much.

I miss you too. She smiled but quickly turned serious. What's her status? Robin motioned to the bed where her friend lay.

Well, she should make a full recovery. Whoever did it managed to find some pretty pure Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, rare because it's a street drug.

And they think it's Carly?

Yes, I'm afraid so. Monica returned.

Why Em?

I don't know. There isn't enough evidence right now to arrest her, so we don't know for sure. It could have been one of Zander's old friends too, trying to hurt him...but we just don't know.

Keep me posted OK? If there's anything you need, I'd be happy to help.

As a Doctor? You know were always shorthanded here, and you've gained an impressive reputation. Would you consider working for GH?

Wow, I...I don't know what to say...I don't know what my plans are right now...but I'll definitely think about it.

Good, now if you'll excuse us, Emily needs her rest and Nikolas will be visiting soon so-

Yeah we'll go. Robin laughed.

Edward and Lila would love to see you both while you're in town.

Well make sure we stop by the house when we get a moment.

Good then we'll see you soon.

Goodnight Monica. Goodnight Emily. Come on Brenda.

Oh, already? Brenda whined. But we were just getting started.

Emily needs rest. Robin reprimanded. And I need to get to the hotel and get some sleep! With that she shoved her protesting friend out the door.

After ensuring the women were out of hearing range, Jason approached Sonny. His ice blue eyes glittered hard and cold thinking of the very real possibility that the woman he used to call 'best friend' may have attacked his sister. What do we know? He asked all business.

Not much. Carly flipped out after the divorce. I've heard from various sources that she's been in contact with Moreno. She's also installed a revolving door to her bedroom. She's the new town bicycle. Sonny's voice dripped with disdain. Everyone get's a ride.

That still doesn't explain why she's the prime suspect. Jason pointed out. And Emily? Carly doesn't have a problem with her.

Sonny ran his hand through his hair, pausing a moment to collect his thoughts. After I told her we were done, she went to Courtney apparently to enlist her help in getting her family back. They argued and Court let it slip that, uh, Emily took her to Paris to meet Robin. Carly then swore in front of the police that she would make those that took what was hers pay.

Jason nodded. Anything else I should know?

Johnny told her where you were and Carly was asking Liz about Emily's treatment times. Today she just happened to show up, under the excuse of getting a morning after pill, during the time of Emily's scheduled chemotherapy.

Jason let out a low whistle. So she started with the easiest target, Emily. Does she know I'm back yet?

I don't know. There are guards on Courtney. I'm figuring she's going to be the next target. Sonny responded pulling at his lower lip.

No she's not. Aiden who'd been listening quietly interrupted.

Who's he? Sonny asked immediately defensive.

He's cool Sonny. Aiden Devane this is Sonny Corinthos. Jason introduced the 2.

Devane? Where do I know that name from?

He's Robin's cousin on her mom's side. He's also former Special Forces and a WSB agent.

Sonny raised his eyebrows. OK, I guess I'll trust Jason on this. So Aiden who do you think Carly's going to go after.

Look Mate, from everything I've heard about this Carly...she considers Jason, Courtney and You her family. She's apparently not stupid. If she hurts one of you, then she loses all chance of getting that back.

He's right. Jason nodded his head.

But then why would she go after Jason's family? Sonny was still skeptical.

It's simple. Carly assumed correctly that Emily and Robin were still good friends. She also knew Jason was in Paris with Robin. What better way to get them both back in town?

So she didn't intend to hurt Em...just scare us? Jason stared at Aiden who nodded. But that would make her next target.

Robin and Brenda tumbled out the door laughing in relief that Em was going to be fine and in giddy exhaustion. All 3 men turned their eyes to stare at their beauty, each lost in his own thought of what Robin meant to him. To Sonny she represented redemption and purity, to Aiden she was part of the family he sought for so long and to Jason, she was his heart, his soul, his life. His skin visibly paled as he thought of any harm coming to her.

Robin-

Jason Morgan stood in the doorway of the guest bedroom of his penthouse watching Robin Scorpio sleep. He relaxed against the doorjamb listening to the soft, even sound of her breathing, calm and easy. The lack of argument to get her there surprised him. She fought harder back in Paris, wearing him down until finally he called to make a reservation at the Port Charles Hotel. Recent threats to her safety however put that idea to rest. Maybe she relented because of exhaustion, after all, she'd been awake for more than 24 hours. More than likely she witnessed the fear on not just his and Sonny's faces but that of her cousin, Aiden Devane.

Though he'd only known the man for a few weeks, and he admittedly worked for the WSB, an organization that could potentially destroy Sonny Corinthos and him, Jason liked Aiden. The other man's easy going manner hid a ferocious temper that only came out when he needed to protect those he loved. He was honest to a fault and because of this, shared a special closeness with Robin that Jason never saw with anyone before.

Jason planned to keep the Carly mess from her, partly out of a natural desire to protect the woman he loved more than life itself and partly from an ingrained sense of secrecy. That's how he worked. The people around him were on a need to know basis. Carly wouldn't get near Robin, so why worry her with mundane details. Aiden though had other plans

When Robin and Brenda exited Emily Quartermaines hospital room, they immediately sensed a change in the atmosphere. The mens tense faces and stiff body language were all they needed to know a problem had arisen.

What's wrong? Brenda demanded as soon as Jason choked out Robin's name.

Nothing. Came the reply from both Sonny and Jason.

Aiden stared at the floor and coughed. That's not gonna fly mates. He told the men.

Robin walked to Jason and gazed into his eyes. He's right you know. If it concerns Brenda or me we have a right to the truth. I know you think keeping secrets will keep me safe, but I'm not a little girl. I can take care of myself.

Jason sighed and deferred to Sonny who stood silent.

Aiden broke the awkward moment, once again speaking up. Either you tell her or I will. I don't tell Robin lies, and I don't cover up stuff. Trust me, she's tougher than both of you know.

OK. Jason took Robin's hand in his, rubbing his thumb in small circles over her palm. On one condition. You move into the penthouse until this is over.

No. Robin shook her head. We had this disagreement already Jason. The hotel is better for me. It's neutral territory.

Robin, Came Aidens soft plea. I think it would be best. His eyes held her's and she nodded.

Alright. But I have a few demands of my own. First Brenda and Aiden stay with me. Second, I come and go as I please. I will not be a prisoner in that place ever again.

Jason let out the breath he'd been holding. So long as you take guards with you as well as Aiden or Me, that's fine. Anything else?

Yes. You stay at Sonny's. That one is nonnegotiable. She glared daring him to argue with her.

Instead he smiled, relieved it had been so easy. Deal. He shook her hand to seal the bargain and she laughed.

Jason, I'm not a business associate. Now what's going on?

Within minutes they briefed her on the ex Mrs. Corinthos apparent plan. She nibbled at her lower lip, worrying it with her teeth, lost in thought.

Robin? Sweetheart? You OK? Sonny asked concerned with her lack of response.

Yeah. I'm fine. It's just...well...I can handle whatever Carly throws at me. But what about Courtney?

She's already being guarded around the clock. She hates it but understands.

And...what about?

Sonny interrupted her thought. Actually this whole mess is about to get worse. He rubbed his hands roughly through his hair, then placed them on his hips. I'm headed over to her place now to get Michael. The way she's chosen to live is no place for a child. He drew a form from his inside breast pocket. A notice from the courts giving me full, temporary custody until there's a complete review of the environment Carly has created. She even missed the court hearing this morning and by default, Michael is now mine.

Do you want backup? Jason volunteered instantly. She's not going to be too happy about this.

No, I'm taking Johnny with me, and a court appointed liaison. Letticia already has him packed and ready to go. Hopefully Carly won't cause too many problems but we'll see. You just get Robin and Brenda settled. I'll call if I need anything. Sonny hugged both the women and smiled his dimpled grin. We'll take care of this. I promise.

Well, this better be one promise you don't break Corinthos. Brenda frowned at him. This is my little sister were talking about.

I know. Goodnight. Mr. Devane, it was a pleasure meeting you. I'll see everyone later.

Now nearly 3 hours later, Robin slept soundly in his spare room. All Jason really wanted was to crawl in next to her, gather her small body close to his and hold on for dear life. He took a small timid step toward the bed careful not to wake her. How could he have forgotten how beautiful she was while she slept, cheeks flushed, soft pink lips slightly parted, a serene expression gracing her face as if she dreamt only pleasant thoughts? In his intense study of her face, he neglected to watch exactly where he was going. Jason stumbled over one of Robin's discarded shoes and fell to the floor with a noisy clatter.

Robin sat up straight in bed, her heart pounding a mile a minute in the unfamiliar setting. Who's there? She called out groggy and unsure.

Dammit! Jason swore softly under his breath. Sorry.

Jason? What are you doing here?

I, uh, I was watching you sleep and I tripped over your shoe. He responded sheepishly, getting to his feet.

In spite of the fear that momentarily gripped her, Robin smiled to herself in the dark, flattered by his admission. What time is it? She asked rubbing at her eyes not quite awake.

He moved to the bed and sat beside her, brushing the hair off her face tenderly. It's late. Go back to sleep.

She settled back against the pillows and yawned. Is Sonny back yet?

Yeah, he brought Michael back about an hour ago. I was just giving him time to get the little guy settled.

How did Carly take it?

She wasn't home. Jason answered and even in the dark Robin saw his blue eyes flash cold and angry. Sonny said the place was a wreck. Dirty dishes and trash everywhere and not a whole lot of food in the kitchen.

Wow. Why didn't Letticia clean up? And why did Carly let it get so bad?

Letticia got back from a 2 week vacation yesterday. Who knows what Carly's been doing since that time? Obviously it wasn't taking care of Michael.

Robin sat silently looking down at her hands. Finally when she looked up at Jason, he saw the tears that fell freely down her cheeks. I'm sorry Jason. I should never have let Courtney take those letters to you. If I hadn't none of this would have happened and Michael never would have been exposed to this.

Gently he pulled her to his chest. Shhh. Robin, it's not your fault. I had a right to know...to know a lot of things that Carly chose to hide from me. Every time I look at you, every time you smile or laugh with me, it kills me inside knowing I brought you so much pain. That you'll even talk to me or Sonny again is a gift and I'm not ever giving it up.

But if I had refused to meet Courtney, if Sonny hadn't left Carly because of those letters...if- Robin broke off sobbing quietly and Jason thought his heart would break to see her in such turmoil and with so much concern for everyone but herself.

He lifted her chin to look into her eyes. Robin, Carly did this. Not you, not me, not Sonny. Nothing is ever enough for her. It took me too long to see that. We'll get through this and Michael will be fine. We'll make sure of it.

She nodded and glanced shyly up at him suddenly remembering where she was. Staring into his eyes, she sucked in her breath seeing the deep love shining back at her. She bit her lower lip self-consciously as the strap from her camisole slipped off one shoulder.

Jason's look changed instantly from one of adoration to predatory. He felt mesmerized, unable to stop himself. He bent his head and claimed her lips with his own. With aching delicacy, he explored her mouth, breathing in the heady scent of her perfume and tasting the sweetness that only belonged to Robin. Hearing her low whimper, he pulled back quickly. I'm, I'm sorry. He stammered out. I'll just go. You need to rest and-

Jason...Shhhhh. She whispered. Stay with me, at least until I fall asleep. She pulled back the covers and he slid beneath the cool sheets and lay next to her. He drew her in, spooning her body tightly against his kissing her temple. Goodnight Jason. She sighed snuggling against him.

Goodnight Robin. Sweet dreams.

The screaming woke them both. Loud shouting and cursing emanated from the hallway between the 2 penthouses.

Sonny Corinthos! Get out here now! I want MY child you sorry Son of a Bitch!

Carly. Jason sighed in frustration. And she's obviously drunk.

What are you going to do? Robin asked.

Jason scrambled out of the bed and quickly yanked on his shoes. No matter what you hear, stay put. I'll be back.

Jason- she hesitated. Go easy on her...she's been drinking and Michael might come out.

I'll take care of it. Don't worry.

Another yell traveled up the stairs, ear splitting even through the thick brick walls accompanied by resounding thuds as Carly began to pound on doors and walls with her fist.

You Kidnapper! I'll kill you. Give me Michael NOW!

Jason ran out of the room, as Brenda and Aiden poked their heads out.

Need any help mate? Sounds like a right nutter out there. Aiden offered.

No. Just stay here. I know how to handle Carly.

Always knew that chick was off her rocker! Brenda said as Jason flew down the stairs and out the door at a breakneck pace.

At the sound of the door opening Carly turned around and stopped her path of destruction. Marco stood by Sonny's door and motioned behind her back that he'd been powerless to stop the tirade and Jason nodded. I'll take care of it from here Marco.

Carly's face lit up with relief. Jase? You're home!

What the hell do you think your doing Carly? He stood staring at her, eyes ice cold, and body rigid.

Jase! She squealed, staggered toward him and threw her arms around his neck. You're home...Now every things going to be OK! You and me and Michael...We'll finally be a family.

Jason Morgan stared with blue eyes as cold as ice at his former best friend who lay sprawled on the ground at his feet. The stench of booze wafted from her body in powerful waves and he shook his head in disgust. Get up Carly! He commanded in a menacing tone. When she refused to respond, he yanked her to her feet angrily. Go home and sleep it off. Jason thrust her from him and she stumbled backwards.

Jase Carly whimpered softly. I'm sorry. I know I screwed up but that Saint brought it on herself...You can fix this. You can make Sonny see-

SHUT UP! He barked back at her. Don't you dare blame Robin for your problems. Go home Carly. You're drunk and I'm not dealing with you until you sober up.

But Jase... She continued her whine. You love me, you always fix everything. She teetered toward him on unsteady feet and reached out her arms to him, begging for his touch, for some small comfort in his arms.

I'm done cleaning up your messes. He responded with disdain. Now leave before I have you removed. He nodded at Marco who moved forward.

Fine! Carly spat out at him turning nasty. But not without Michael. He's MY son and I want him.

Brenda Barrett heard her best friends sobs as she stood outside the bedroom door. She sighed heavily and wrapped her knuckles across the wood before walking in. Honey...Robin...What's wrong? She went to the small, shaking figure on the bed and engulfed her in a tight embrace. Shhh...sweetie...it's OK. Let it all out. Brenda stroked Robin's hair and rocked her in her arms as the younger woman cried her heart out.

I'm so stupid Brenda!

No, no...don't say that. Robin, you're the smartest person I know.

But here I am back in Port Charles less than a day and it's like I never left. I'm in Jason's house, falling asleep in his arms and he's rushing to Carly's side. She wiped her eyes with the tissue Brenda offered her. I can't do this again.

But it's different this time. Look, I'll admit I'm not Jason's biggest fan, but he isn't out there to help her. She was screaming so loud she could wake the dead. Brenda patted her friends back and waited for her to continue.

I know, I know. But it's more than that. Being here brings back so many memories. And Carly showing up just drove those memories home. I lost myself in Jason the last time we were together. I gave him every part of me, I fought so hard for us and in the end it wasn't enough...I wasn't enough for him. He wanted Carly and Michael and that instant family she provided. I couldn't compete.

Is that why you told A.J.? Brenda asked quietly.

Robin thought for a moment, her tears drying on her face as she remembered that difficult time in her life. In her head she heard Carly's triumphant voice gloating because she won, she had Jason living with her and soon he would love her too and Robin could do nothing about it. She heard her own voice, telling Carly that she could love Jason and the slam of the door as she fled the brownstone. No. It came out in a strangled whisper. As much as she upset me that last day, as much as she lorded her victory over me and taunted me, I didn't do it out of vengeance. That's Carly's MO, not mine.

Then why? Brenda already knew the answer but also knew Robin needed to talk it out, to hear it in her own words.

Do you remember when you wore the wire on Sonny? She responded. Do you remember how you felt when you agreed to do it?

I was terrified! I mean Sonny was lying to me about being out, I was shot at while taking a shower and-

Yeah, but Brenda, what did you hope to gain by doing it?

Brenda nibbled on her lower lip as she pondered Robin's question. I was sick of the lies, of being lied to, of being dishonest to my friends and family, of living in denial every waking moment. She looked down at her hands, for the first time fully understanding Robin's predicament and knowing her friend had no one to turn to.

That's why I told the truth. I couldn't live with myself any longer. I couldn't look A.J. in the eye and call him my friend while pretending his child was someone else's. And I knew Carly would continue to use Michael as a tool to make Jason do her bidding and then throw him away when something or someone with more power and money came along.

Which she did.

Robin nodded. The only thing I'm sorry for is not telling Jason first, for not telling him I was drowning in a sea of deceit, that little bit by little bit I was dying inside, becoming someone I didn't recognize and didn't want to know. Everything else I would have done again.

So where does that leave you now? Brenda pointedly asked.

Her friend shrugged. I don't know. I still...I still love him Brenda...but I can't give up my life again. I can't go back to that dark place. Love wasn't enough last time. I don't know if it ever will be.

Sweetie, Brenda took Robin's hand. I've watched him looking at you. I've never seen a man so completely lost in a woman before. Not even Sonny and me in the best of our relationship. He worships you.

For the first time since Brenda came in, Robin broke into a smile. I know, He's so tender and sweet. It scares me sometimes. I'm drawn to him like a moth to a flame. But I don't want to get burned again.

Brenda nodded. Better than most she understood the pain of shattered love. What do you want to do?

To hurry as fast as I can back to Paris and my life there.

Do you think that's the best idea?

I don't know Brenda. All I know is that I can't stay here. It's too close to Jason and I need to slow down. I'll be safe in Paris.

Fine. We'll get Ned to loan us the jet and we'll go back. Emily is going to be fine and if you and Jason are meant to be together, he'll just have to come and find you.

Thanks Brenda-

I love you. Anything you need, I'll do it. You're my little sister.

The 2 women embraced. Pulling away Brenda brushed the hair off Robin's face. Lord you are so beautiful. She told her.

Not like you.

No, where I'm bright and flashy, you are soulful and honest and real. I'm gonna go, I'll check on Jason, tell him you're asleep and he should go to Sonny's. Get some rest.

Jason simply stared at Carly with disbelief. His silence unnerved her and all her arguments for convincing him to give her Michael flew from her head. Instead she grew angrier and angrier. She wasn't used to the turn her life had taken. Usually she could manipulate the men in her life with the simple crook of a finger but since the reemergence of little Miss Perfect everything changed.

Don't just stand there you brain damaged idiot. Go get Michael! Now!

No Carly. He's asleep, you're plastered and this isn't about him. It's about you feeling sorry for yourself and wanting to hurt the people that hurt you. Go home now Carly. Maybe you can salvage a shred of your dignity and talk to Sonny in the morning.

How? My life is ruined all because of that bitch!

SHUT UP you skank! Brenda screamed from the doorway of Penthouse 2. How dare you insult Robin. You hid her pregnancy from Jason; you tried to convince her to have an abortion...you even kept her miscarriage from him. Someone should give you a lobotomy so you can't hurt anyone else. She felt a rage growing inside her and before Jason could stop her she flew at Carly knocking the other woman to the floor. She pummeled her face with strong fists as Carly cried out and tried to struggle to get free.

It took a second for Jason to respond. He paused and let Brenda deck the writhing blonde figure one last time before pulling her off kicking and screaming. I'll kill you! You stupid whore!

Enough Brenda! Go back inside. Tell Robin I'll check on her in a few minutes. Too late he realized his mistake and ran his hands through his hair. Carly, I'll have Marco take you home.

No. She hissed at him wiping the blood trickling from her nose. Go on in to your perfect little Miss Saint. Didn't take her long did it? The second I'm out of the picture she's moving in with you, throwing herself at you! She'll just hurt you again, and this time I won't be around to pick up the pieces. She turned on her heel. At the elevator she paused and turned back. I'll be back, for my son...And my life. She said ominously and left.

Jason pinched the bridge of his nose and rubbed his eyes. What Brenda?

What? You want me to apologize? She was attacking my best friend. Someone had to defend her.

Yeah well she's also trashed and now she know's Robin is here. He tried to brush past her to go check on the woman in question.

Um...Not gonna happen, Jason. She's asleep. Goodnight. Brenda shut the door in his face leaving him standing bewildered and frustrated in the hall.

Carly Corinthos stumbled along the docks muttering to herself under her breath. I'll get that Saint if it's the last thing I do. I'll make them all pay.

Mrs. Corinthos A masculine voice called out to her. If I might have a moment of your time. She turned in the direction of the words and gasped. From out of the swirling fog came a ghost.

What do you want from me? You're dead. She whispered as fear gripped her heart.

Don't be ridiculous, as you can see I'm very much alive. Lorenzo Alcazar laughed at the terrified expression the woman before him wore. It's my twin brother who met his maker. I have to say though, I love making an entrance.

Fine, you're Alcazar's brother.

Lorenzo. He took her hand and pressed his lips against it. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Yeah well, the pleasures all yours. You've had a moment now get the hell out of my way! Carly tried to brush past him but he grabbed her wrist and held fast.

Not so quickly, Mrs. Corinthos...especially when I can help you get the one thing you want...The one thing that would benefit both of us.

What are you talking about? She asked intrigued in spite of herself.

I'm talking about you getting your life back and me avenging my brother's death.

I don't know what you mean. Just leave me alone. She wrenched her arm from him and began to walk away.

He called out to her and she stopped lured by the sultry sound of his voice. Coming up behind her Lorenzo whispered in her ear, a melody that made her smile. I can arrange a little accident for Miss Scorpio...How would you like that?

Robin Scorpio slipped out of her coat and hung it on the rack at Kelly's diner. Turning she surveyed her surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and trepidation. A wave of nostalgic memories hit her as she looked around. Moments spent with Jason, Stone, Brenda, Sonny, her parents all came flooding back, moments filled with laughter, tears and sometimes just a good cup of coffee. With a barely audible hiss of breath she sighed and made her way to an empty table, her cousin Aiden Devane and Brenda Barrett following close behind.

What is it Robin? Aiden asked concerned. While he agreed that living at the penthouse was no longer an option since that head case Carly Corinthos knew of her whereabouts but he hated Robin running away again. He believed in facing all problems head on, whether in matters of the mind or heart. And after observing Robin in her hometown for less than a day, it was evident Port Charles was where she belonged.

It's amazing, you know. She answered him. How so many things change, yet how many things stay almost exactly the same.

I know. Brenda agreed. Good old Kelly's. It's seems to be the one constant in our lives.

It's not different at all. I swear Bobbie must have stock in that curtain material. Robin laughed effectively breaking the tension as Liz Lansing approached the table to take their order.

What can I get you folks this morning? She inquired smiling pleasantly enough but not looking up from her pad and pen.

Um...we're waiting for one other person. Brenda spoke in a soft soothing tone.

Yeah we'll wait a few more minutes. Robin reached for Liz's hand to prevent the younger woman from fleeing back to the counter. She stood and hugged her much to the surprise of the waitress. Emily told me about your loss. She whispered in her ear. You must be devastated.

Unable to stop herself, Liz crumpled in Robin's arms and sobbed quietly. Thank you so much. She managed to gasp. When her cries died out, she pulled back. I'm sorry for blubbering like an idiot. Robin, you must think I'm such a twit. She took the Kleenex Aiden offered and dabbed her eyes.

No, not at all. I know what it feels like to lose something so precious. You have every right to be sad.

You know, I'm really sorry we never got the chance to know each other before. Lucky, Nik and Emily always say you are the nicest person they know...they're right. Maybe now that you're back in town we can have lunch or something.

Oh I don't know. Robin hesitated.

Oh. The small amount of hope briefly splayed across Liz's face died. If you don't want to I understand.

No, no it's not that. I just don't know how long were going to be here. Robin reassured her.

Well, if Jason Morgan has anything to say about it, then you'll never leave again. Came the matter of fact reply.

Why do you say that? Robin asked

After you left, we became close, but nothing ever happened. Liz explained. I was just a poor substitute for you. To Jason the sun rises and sets with Robin Scorpio. It always has and it always will.

Before Robin answered, Courtney Matthews rushed in from the cold. She shook off her coat and fluffed her blonde locks before making her way over to the table. She grinned and engulfed Robin in a hug. It's so good to see you. She gushed. Sorry I'm late. Hi Liz.

Hi Courtney. Liz gave her a small smile. How's school? Though at odds over the past few months because of Jason, after Courtney's Paris trip things changed and they began to rebuild a tentative friendship.

It's great! Thanks. Um...have you met everyone? She motioned to the table.

Well, I already knew Robin and Brenda, but who is the gorgeous guy that gave me the tissue? She winked at Aiden who blushed to the roots of his hair while the girls giggled.

Where are my manners? Robin exclaimed. Liz, I'd like you to meet Aiden Devane, my cousin. Aiden this is Liz Lansing.

Pleased to meet you. Aiden offered his hand.

The pleasures all mine! Liz smiled.

Hey, hey! Brenda piped up. Hands off!

OK, OK! Liz held up her hands in mock defeat. What can I get you guys...and yes, I do expect a big tip.

The entire table burst into spontaneous laughter as they all placed their orders and Liz hurried off to the kitchen.

For an hour they lingered over food and coffee, talking about everything that happened since they'd last seen each other. Courtney raved about school, the cottage, all her new friends, and how much she enjoyed discovering who she really was. For once her life agreed with her, she felt independent and happy.

As the conversation wound down, Robin became quiet, lost in thought. She pushed the remaining bites of egg around her plate in a daze until Brenda grabbed her fork and took it away. Robin, are you OK? She asked pointedly.

Yeah. Courtney chimed in. What's bugging you?

Nothing. Robin sighed. I'm just tired.

Well, if you're sure? Courtney bit her lower lip worriedly.

Yes.

I have to go to class, but call me later this week and we'll have dinner and maybe go shopping.

Uh...Courtney, we're headed to the airport. Robin said in a small voice. We're going back to Paris.

But you just got here! The blonde wailed. You can't go yet. What did Jason say?

Since when does Jason Morgan control my life? Robin snapped irritably, then immediately regretted it.

She's a little cranky. Brenda said as way of an apology. We had a 2AM visit from The Barracuda.

Oh. Carly. Courtney nodded. Robin, you can't let her chase you away again. Besides it's different this time. Jason loves you and you love him so what's the problem?

Court, I know you mean well, but I just need some time to think, away from everything here. Robin squeezed her friends hand.

Besides, Brenda offered, If Jason wants her so bad, he'll go after her.

OK. If you think it's best and you're sure it's what you want. Courtney admonished.

I don't know what I want. But I will, I just need my own space.

Goodbyes were said, along with promises to call and write and just like that Courtney disappeared and the limousine whisked the 3 travelers to the airport.

Before boarding the ELQ jet, Robin hesitated staring down the tarmac. Are you sure about this Luv? Aiden asked her seeing the indecisive glint in her eyes.

She stood quietly for a moment as if pondering his question. Aiden, Brenda...If I decided to move back here permanently would...would you both come with me?

Yes. The answer was emphatic and instant.

Good, cause I don't think I can do this without you. Let's go, I have a lot of details to take care of.

Wait, wait Brenda called out confused. I thought you just said-

I did Brenda. We're moving back to Port Charles. Robin looked at her friend like she'd morphed into a complete moron.

Then I want to know 2 things. First...what made you change your mind?

I belong here Brenda, as much as I've tried to escape, this town is my home. Being here, the hospital, having breakfast at Kelly's brought that all back for me. And partly because of what Elizabeth said. All this time, I thought Jason stopped loving me when he chose Carly and Michael, but if someone that barely knew me can see what he felt, then I have to believe he never did. I can't keep running from the place my heart is.

Brenda smiled. Good girl! You are so much stronger than you give yourself credit for. Now, Why are we going back to Paris?

Robin laughed, Because silly, I have to resign my position at the hospital, let my mom know, tie up loose ends-

You can do that here. Brenda threw up her hands exasperated.

Yeah but Brenda, your clothes aren't going to pack themselves. Aiden teased gently.

OH! What are you 2 waiting for...we have a plane to catch. With that Brenda trotted to the waiting plane as the others ran after her.

Jason Morgan woke up for the first time in 5 years actually feeling happy. His confrontation with Carly Corinthos the previous night a distant memory, he pulled on jeans and a T-shirt and bounded down the stairs.

Morning Sonny. He greeted his friend who looked up from his morning coffee with a look of bewilderment.

Morning. Man, what's gotten into you? Sonny asked a grin spreading across his face.

What do you mean? Jason poured his own mug and took a sip.

Well, normally you won't say 2 words in the morning, let alone greet someone voluntarily. And you're smiling. Sonny's dimples flashed mischievously.

No I'm not. Jason tried to look somber but the corners of his mouth refused to budge from their decidedly upturned position.

Yes you are. Sonny laughed. Jason Morgan smiling, who would have thought it? I'm willing to bet good money that it has something to do with a certain brunette staying across the hall. You didn't come back in until late last night. He winked slyly.

Well Carly came by drunk and throwing a fit. So I went out to settle her down. Brenda came out and attacked her. I finally got them apart and Carly stormed off.

Sonny sighed and put a finger on his lips. I heard the cat fight. I'm just glad it didn't wake Michael. Did you have her followed?

Yeah. Reynaldo went. I'll get a report this morning on what she did after leaving here.

Good. I want her tailed around the clock. Make sure she doesn't so much as suffer irregularity without us knowing.

Jason nodded. The guys are already on it.

So, if I remember Carly showed up really late. I know you weren't here when you went out in the hallway. Sonny's tone grew playful again.

Marco told you huh? Jason looked down sheepishly.

He said you came out of your penthouse disheveled and sleepy eyed.

I'll get him back for this. Jason chuckled. Nothing happened Sonny. I just fell asleep.

Are you sure? Sonny raised his eyebrows.

Um...yeah. I was watching Robin sleep. Then when I tried to get closer to her, I tripped over her shoes and woke her up. We talked-

And-

And nothing. I fell asleep until Carly's screaming roused everyone.

Mm Hmm. Sonny murmured knowingly not buying the story for a moment. You've got it bad.

It's incredible Sonny. I'd forgotten what this felt like. I've realized for the past few years I've been going through the motions, pretending to be happy, smiling when I'm supposed to, cleaning up other peoples messes, going through life but not really living. Jason tried to explain.

And now?

It's like waking up from a nightmare and realizing everything is going to be alright. Or finding all the pieces that make you a whole person, your other half. That's what Robin does for me, what she is to me. I used to think that it would be easier if I never saw her face again. I even told her that after she betrayed me, but now I know I can't go back to living that empty existence. Life isn't worth living if she's not with me.

Wow. Sonny smiled.

What? Jason asked.

You man, you're positively glowing. He stifled a giggle.

OK, OK...you've had a good laugh at my expense. I'm outta here. Jason moved to the door.

No wait! Sonny called after him. I'm happy for you. Just don't blow it this time. Shes the best thing that ever happened...to both of us. We lost track of that once, we can't do it again.

I know. Jason smiled. All I want is a chance. At that moment his cell buzzed. Quickly glancing at the caller ID, snapped the phone open. Morgan-Wait? What did you say? And you're sure that's what he said? Jason nodded. Uh huh. Yeah. I want a background check run on him. Find out what connection he has to Robin and why he'd want to hurt her. Call me in an hour. He hung up and paced the room restlessly.

What's going on? Sonny asked concerned.

That was Reynaldo. A man who looks like Luis Alcazar accosted Carly on the docks. He told her he's Alcazars twin Lorenzo and made her a proposition.

What?

Working together they can both get what they want; revenge on the people that hurt them. He said he could arrange an accident for Robin.

What do we have on him? Sonny grew agitated. He hated unknown enemies.

Not much. But we've got people working on it. I should know within the hour. Jason answered. Right now I'm going to get Robin and update her on the situation. Carly alone I could handle. Now I just don't know.

Good idea. I'll have Benny do some background work on Robin for the last few years. See if there's any reason for her to have made any enemies. Call me the second you receive any information.

Quickly Jason exited the penthouse and crossed the hall. So intent on his mission he didn't notice Johnny talking to Max. The guard called out to him as he passed. Hey Jason-

It can wait Johnny...I need to find Robin. Be waiting out here, you'll be assigned to her today. He entered his home and frowned. Something seemed wrong. Everything was too quiet, too empty, and too lonely. He scaled the stairs 2 at a time calling out her name. Robin! Robin are you here? Pushing open the door to her room, his heart stopped. All her luggage was gone. No tangible trace of her remained only the soft lingering smell of her perfume. A quick check of his own room showed no signs of Aiden and Brenda either. Running down the stairs again Jason rushed to the door colliding with Johnny. She's gone man...where did she go?

I was trying to tell you. I just dropped them off at the airport. Johnny sighed seeing his friend so obviously upset.

Do you know where they were going? What flight number they were on? Jason searched the other man's eyes for answers he didn't want to hear.

They took the ELQ Jet. Robin said it was good to see me again and told me that she was going home. That's all I know.

Jason grabbed his jacket and crossed the hall to Sonny's. I'm taking the jet. He shouted. You know how to reach me.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on? Sonny rarely saw his friend so distressed.

It's Robin. She packed up and left. Carly must have scared her off again last night. Jason rummaged through the desk drawer for his passport and the extra cash he knew Sonny kept there.

Well, just give her a few days. Maybe she just needs some space. Sonny tried to calm the agitated man down.

Not this time Sonny. Every time shes left, I've let her go. I've never done a thing about it even though I've wanted to. I've let my own doubts and fears for her future interfere with what we both feel. I love her Sonny, I'm lost without her and this time I'm going to Paris to bring her home where she belongs.

Carly Corinthos woke up in a huge bed covered in silk sheets and a down comforter. Hmmm. She sighed as she snuggled in the warm cocoon feeling safe and content for the first time in forever. She stretched her body like a kitten lying in a patch of sunlight and growled with satisfaction. She thought back to the previous evening and the mystery man she met on the docks. Not only was Lorenzo Alcazar a sexy, sensual man, he also appeared to be the best chance to get her life back.

When he accosted her, she felt terror at first, an icy fist of fear grabbing her heart and holding on tight. But in soft, dulcet tones he convinced her that working together they could and would destroy the woman who ripped her life to shreds.

Why Robin? Carly asked him, not really caring about the answer but letting her curiosity get the better of her.

Because killing her will provide the most pain to most of the people who made my life a living hell. More bang for the buck. He replied morosely, a far away look in his eyes and an expression so foreboding Carly felt a chill run up her spine.

What did she ever do to you? The words popped out before she could stop them.

Robin, nothing at all. It's the people who love her that caused my misery.

Wow, you're kind of creepy, in a I really like the way you think kind of way. Carly broke into a smile.

He returned it and placed an arm around her shoulder. Lets get you inside where it's warm and we can discuss this in more comfortable surroundings.

Now here she lay, on a gorgeous, powerful mans yacht basking in luxury and with a little luck and a little scheming little Miss Saint would get what was coming to her. Carly giggled at the thought.

Mmm. Nice to see you so amused Mrs. Corinthos. Lorenzo sidled into the room. I come bearing gifts. With a small flourish he presented a tray with fresh coffee, juice and fresh bagels. I didn't know what you would like so-

Breakfast in bed. A man after my own heart.

And if all goes according to plan, you'll soon have a Robin Scorpio free world.

What do you mean? She eagerly scrambled to the edge of the bed.

Well, our lovely victim hurried back to Paris this morning, where one of my people have kindly arranged a beautiful fireworks display. You know He paused for effect. Boom, boom.

As she bit into a hot bagel, Carly just grinned. Life was good, and getting better every second.

For Jason Morgan, the plane jetting him to Paris couldn't move fast enough. By his calculations he was running about 2-3 hours behind the ELQ jet. Every mile seemed to take an eternity. He paced restlessly as Johnny O'Brien tried to calm him down.

Jason, sit down. You're going to wear a hole in the carpet. Besides, it won't get us there any faster.

I'm not going to lose her again Johnny. I can't...I won't. He stated emphatically. What time is it?

5 minutes later than the last time you asked. Johnny rolled his eyes in exasperation.

Jason finally slowed and sank into one of the private jets plush seats. He rubbed his hands roughly over his eyes and groaned. I'm sorry Man. It's just...I love her so much...I mean this is it, it's-

Robin. I know. Johnny's tone softened. I've always known from the moment I saw you together. You were an idiot when you let her go. But you came around. What the hell took you so long?

Brain damage? Jason quipped, a small smile finally breaking across his face and a twinkle returning to his baby blues.

Good one Man. Johnny laughed.

The plane phone rang out, shrill and unexpected. Jason snatched it up quickly. Morgan. He barked and grew still as he listened to Sonny Corinthos on the other line. You're sure? No, Johnny came with me. We should be there within the hour Uh huh...You can't be serious? I don't know Sonny, we'll come up with something...God, if something happens to her...I'll kill him with my bare hands...Yeah...I'll keep you updated...Thanks.

What is it Jason? The concern was evident in Johnny's voice.

That was Sonny. They did some digging and got some information about Lorenzo Alcazar.

And?

He's a serious player, highly skilled, connected and dangerous. No one knows why he wants to hurt Robin yet, but there are indications that it has to do with her parents and his brother's death. Anyway, we managed to bug Carly last night. This morning it picked up a conversation between her and Lorenzo. He's planted or is going to plant something at the Paris house. A bomb.

Johnny let out the breath he'd been holding. How do we stop it? If he could, he'd do everything he could to protect the young woman he not only respected and admired but also looked at as a sister and friend.

Sonny seems to think it's in a package of some sort, hand delivered to avoid detection through the mail. It will arrive if it hasn't already sometime today.

So we have to get to it before she does.

Yeah, if she hasn't already. Jason's eyes showed his worry and fear. He clenched his hands into fists again and again in a desperate attempt to gain control. At that moment the captains voice came over the intercom advised the passengers to prepare for landing. It's about time. Jason exclaimed as the 2 men strapped themselves in.

The plane barely taxied to stop before the doors burst open and Jason followed closely by Johnny ran out. Sonny's connections enabled them to skip past customs and climb into a cab that quickly pulled away from the curb.

Jason explained to the driver the urgency of the journey in French and without question he floored it. The white-knuckle journey through the Paris streets lasted less than 20 minutes, but to the 2 passengers each one seemed like an eternity.

Finally they pulled in front of Robin's elegant home. Throwing several large bills at their driver they hurried up the steps. The quiet French suburb appeared peaceful in the cool afternoon sun and Jason breathed a sigh of relief. Whatever was planned had not happened yet.

Albert, the butler opened the door before they even knocked. Monsieur, what are you doing here? Miss Robin does not expect you.

Where is she? Jason demanded curtly concern for Robin over riding the trapping of polite society.

She is at the hospital taking care of a few things. I expect her within the hour. You can wait for her in the study. Albert stepped aside and directed the visitors. Years of service in a household gave him a keen insight. Watching the 2 men, he knew something was seriously wrong.

Thanks. Was the only reply as they trudged away and were left to sit and wait.

Robin Scorpio left the Paris hospital for the last time, a box of miscellaneous items in her arms. That wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. She smiled as she slid into the waiting car. Her cousin Aiden Devane and best friend Brenda Barrett found a way to entertain themselves while she submitted her resignation.

Ahem. Robin cleared her throat, trying to break them apart. When that failed, she burst out laughing. Get a room you 2! She smacked Aiden on the shoulder.

Oh, sorry. Brenda muttered pulling away and trying to fix her rumpled blouse and smudged lipstick. What took so long?

Brenda! This hospital has been my life for a couple of years, I had people to talk to and say goodbye to and a boss to appease.

How did Dr. Bertrand take it? Aiden asked knowing the older physician loved her young protégé and would hate parting with her especially so quickly.

She told me it was a long time coming. Robin answered. She said she knew my heart was somewhere else the moment she met me. Then of course she insisted on calling Alan Quartermaine and telling him in no uncertain terms to take good care of me, that I'm probably much better than he or General Hospital deserves and if she so much as feels I'm being mistreated she'll come over there and box his ears herself. Brenda and Aiden both laughed and Robin promptly burst into tears. I know, I know, I'm being silly. But I'm going to miss this place. She sniffled.

It's OK sweetie. Her best friend moved to comfort her. But you're going home...where you belong.

I know. Robin sighed. I know I'm doing the right thing. But I hate goodbyes. I've said way too many of them in my life.

Aiden kissed her forehead softly. Where to next Luv?

The house. She wiped the tears away. I already called and told Albert our plans. He is decidedly bent out of shape but he's already arranging everything, movers, telling Uncle Demitri that the house will be vacant again.

All the things you wanted to ignore. Brenda said dryly.

Um, no Bren, that's you. Aiden quipped earning a playful smack on his head. Ouch! He joked. Would you 2 birds stop hitting me?

Ahh...but that wouldn't be any fun. Brenda giggled and hit him again. As punishment he grabbed her wrists and kissed her hard and unrelenting. She gasped when he finally let her up for air. Wow. She sighed dreamily and snuggled against him.

Hey now. Robin chimed in. We're here, so you 2 can hold off for 2 more minutes can't you? She scolded them but her eyes twinkled with mischief.

Robin, you're such a romantic! Brenda smiled at her friend. Thank you. She mouthed so Aiden wouldn't hear.

Brenda, no one is happier than me that you 2 found each other. I don't know 2 people that deserve this more than you both. Just take care of each other.

Don't worry, we will. Aiden pulled Brenda closer to him.

I know. Robin answered as they piled out of the car laughing and linking arms.

Albert hurried toward the trio as they entered the house, engulfing Robin in a huge bear hug. Thank God you're all OK. He pulled back and inspected the young Doctor for injuries causing her to stare at him quizzically.

Of course I'm alright! She wrinkled her nose. Why wouldn't I be?

Well Mr. Morgan and a friend are here to see you. They seem really agitated and were demanding your whereabouts.

Jason is here? Robin's eyes grew wide with surprise.

Well good old lug head finally decided to fight for you! Brenda gloated. It's definitely luuurve!

Shut up Brenda! Robin silenced her friend. Where is he now? She asked Albert.

In the Study. Can I get you anything? He answered her.

Um, no we're fine. I'll call if anything changes. Robin hurried to the room in question without a backward glance. Jason She called out.

He stood immediately and ran toward her at the sound of her voice. He grabbed her and crushed her to him, breathing in her scent, running his lips over neck and cheeks. God Robin, I've never been so afraid in my entire life.

Jason, put me down. Why are you here? Robin's confusion grew as she felt the rapid fire beat of his heart under his jacket.

He put her away from him, grabbing her hands in his. I should ask you the same thing. He glared, the fear momentarily giving way to a slow boiling anger that she left him again.

Jason I- She tried to explain but he interrupted.

Robin, couldn't you at least tell me you were planning on leaving? Did you have to runaway again? I thought we were getting past all that.

I tried to call you, I kept getting your voicemail-

Oh, so you though a phone call would be enough? A quick bye Jason makes everything better?

Hey Enforcer boy! Brenda shouted at him. Has anyone ever told you, you have a bad case of foot in mouth disease?

Not now Brenda. This has nothing to do with you. Jason turned toward her then back to Robin. You're coming back with me tonight. Every time you've gone before, I've just let you go...but Robin, a life without you isn't worth living...Can't you see that we belong together?

Jason...I'm trying to tell you-

Please hear me out...Whatever you're afraid of, we can get past it together. I love you Robin. Tears shone in his eyes as he looked at her. He brushed her hair softly off her face. Come home with me.

Are you finished? She asked him, her soulful eyes capturing his gaze. She intertwined her fingers through his catching him off guard. Realizing she had his full attention, she pressed up against him and wrapping her arms around his neck she pressed her lips softly to his, her teeth gently grazed his lower lip as she pulled away. Mmm, Jason? She sighed as she traced his jawline with featherlight kisses.

His breath quickened coming in harsh gasps. She was deliberately driving him slowly insane with desire and wanting. Finally he stopped her. He cupped her face in his hands and looked deeply into her chocolate eyes, searching for how she felt what she was trying to tell him with her mouth and body.

Robin smiled with heartbreaking tenderness. Thank you. For coming to get me. She whispered. For loving me enough to want me by your side.

Always Robin. Forever. His blue eyes pooled with unshed tears as he tried to find the words to tell her what was in his heart. I-

Shhh...I have something to tell you. I had to go to the hospital first-

Instantly he grew concerned. Are you OK? You're not sick are you?

No. Jason, I had to resign my position. I can't very well work at a hospital here in Paris while I'm living in Port Charles. She paused and looked up at him waiting.

But you love being a... He trailed off as her word hit him. Wait, living in Port Charles? Really?

She nodded. With a cry of joy he picked her up and spun around the room as she laughed and held on. Jason put me down! He set her back on her feet.

Why didn't you tell me? He asked her trying to keep the hurt out of his voice.

I tried. I left you about 5 messages. And just now but you wouldn't listen. I still can't believe you came after me.

I'd do it again too, but you're never leaving again.

We have to take it slow though Jason.

This time it's forever so we have all the time in the world. He bent down and captured her lips in a sensual kiss that grew more heated and passionate.

Finally! Brenda cleared her throat and echoing her friends words from earlier barked out, Get a room you 2.

They pulled apart reluctantly both smiling at each other as if there was no one else in the room. Fine Brenda. I deserved that. Robin admitted.

The doorbell rang effectively breaking her out of her reverie. I'll get it. Albert is already doing way too much for me at the moment. She hurried out to the foyer.

I have a delivery for a Miss Robin Scorpio. The courier said when she opened the door.

Oh that's me. She smiled and dug some francs out of her purse to tip the man on the steps. Thank you.

She turned the box in her hands over looking for a return address but there was none. That's weird.

What? Aiden asked.

I just got this. She showed him the gift. No return address.

Jason and Johnny interrupted. Who was there? Johnny inquired suspiciously.

Oh God! Jason shouted when he saw a plain package. Before anyone could stop him he snatched it out of Robin's hands.

Jason!

Robin it's a bomb! Get down! He shoved her to the floor as he threw it out the door. It exploded in midair, the force of the blast lifting him off the ground and throwing him backwards. His body hit the floor with a sickening crunch as smoke filled the room.

Jason! Robin screamed as the dust began to clear. The doorframe shattered when the bomb detonated sending wood splinters and shards of glass everywhere. Aiden! Johnny! Where are you guys? She tried to keep the panic from her voice.

I'm here. Aiden called out scrambling to his feet. Brenda?

Thank God you're OK! Brenda threw herself into his arms sobbing uncontrollably.

Johnny picked himself up brushing debris from his clothing. I'm alive! No injuries.

Good. Jason gasped obviously in pain as he struggled to a sitting position holding his left arm and wincing. Go after the delivery guy. I want him found.

Johnny didn't hesitate, just turned and left. Robin raced to Jason's side and frowned slightly. She gingerly inspected his arm. It's broken. She informed him matter of fact. We have to get you to the hospital.

Wait, Baby. He reached for her, pulling her in and burying his face in her neck. Are you hurt? Are you alright?

Yes. She replied, tears slipping down her cheeks as what she could have lost hit her hard. Who did this Jason?

We don't know a lot yet. He groaned as she tried to straighten his injured arm.

What do you know mate? Aiden asked brusquely.

A man planned this. A man that Brenda may know, considering she was on trial for his brother's murder.

Aiden stiffened when heard what Jason had to say. He stormed around the foyer kicking shards of debris out of his way. Damn it! I thought he was dead.

Who? Brenda asked even more confused by what she was hearing.

Lorenzo...Lorenzo Alcazar. Luis twin brother.

Sitting up in his hospital bed, Jason Morgan inspected the freshly set cast on his left arm. He grinned up at Dr. Robin Scorpio mischievously. You do good work Doctor. He teased. And you're gorgeous too. He winked.

She rolled her eyes at him and swatted him with her clipboard playfully as he pulled her into his lap and placed a soft kiss on her lips. She drew back and looked at him concern clouding her chocolate eyes. You're sure you're OK? She frowned.

He sighed and rubbed a hand over his eyes. Yes Robin, I'm fine, other than the arm and a few bruises. I'm just glad no one else got hurt. He could have killed you- Jason's breath caught in his throat as he wrapped his good arm around Robin and buried his head against her neck.

Shh...I'm fine. She answered hugging him back. And can I just say, you are the worst patient ever! I've dealt with 6 year olds who are more cooperative. She smiled at him trying to lighten the mood.

He shrugged. I hate hospitals.

Yes but Jason, you do realize it's a conflict of interest for me to tend to you when there are hundreds of capable Physicians in this hospital?

He nodded. Yeah, but none of them are as cute as you.

She giggled and gently stroked his cheek. Yeah, but throwing a fit and demanding Dr. Scorpio when I no longer work here was pretty bad.

So sue me. He replied his own eyes twinkling at her.

What am I going to do with you? She sighed with mock frustration.

Spend every waking moment with me for the next 50 or so years of our lives? He pulled her closer to him resting his forehead against hers.

I'll have to get back to you on that one Mr. Morgan. She whispered softly brushing her mouth against his.

Never one to miss an opportunity, Jason entangled his hand in her hair and deepened the kiss. He ran his tongue lightly over her bottom lip asking permission to enter. When she moaned her consent, he swept in tasting her sweetness.

He could have spent an eternity there, but the sound of the curtain around his bed being ripped open and Brenda Barrett's loud, not so subtle cough brought both of them back to reality. Can this lug head leave now? She asked motioning to Jason.

Robin chuckled at her friends obvious annoyance. Yes Brenda. But we can't go back to the house. The foyer is in shambles and Albert has already called in the Calvary to begin repairs. Her tone grew serious as she saw Aiden appear behind Brenda placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. And we will need somewhere private to discuss...new developments. She finished quietly looking at her hands.

Demitri called. Aiden interjected. Anna contacted the WSB already. We have a safe house about 40 miles outside of the city. We can stay there for a few days, regroup...come up with a plan.

Yeah, you have a lot to answer for. Jason's eyes grew clouded with anger.

Hey, shut up. Brenda shouted. This is neither the time or the place to discuss this.

Brenda, babe. Aiden turned her gently. He's right. I have a lot to talk about.

I know. She answered. I just want to get out of here. She lowered her eyes looking sad and defeated not at all like herself.

Robin rose from her spot and took her friend in her arms. Bren, it's going to be OK. I promise.

Brenda sighed and let Robin comfort her. I thought I was all done with this. She whispered and slumped against her little sisters shoulder. With the Alcazars.

Be strong. Robin told her. For just a little while longer.

Robin Scorpio, I'm here to take you to the safe house. A male voice came from around Aiden.

She looked up and broke into a huge grin, and catapulted herself into the newcomers embrace. Sean Donnelly! What are you doing here?

Are you kidding? Your mother didn't trust anyone else with your life. If I didn't come, when I was already in the city, I'd have to face her wrath.

So? Robin teased him. It's just Anna. She's harmless.

Sure. He stared back at her. I'd rather face 20 armed, insane terrorists singlehandedly than tangle with your mother when your safety is in question.

The petite brunette laughed. Yeah, Mom can be pretty ruthless. She conceded. Can we get going? She asked. I think we're all pretty tired and I have to eat so I can take my pills.

Sure, sweetheart. Sean kissed the top of her head. I already stopped by the house. Albert had your bags ready to go. Let me tell you that is one pissed off French butler.

Yeah well that house is his baby. Brenda piped up.

And the people that live there. Sean told her pointedly as the small group trudged down the hall and out into the dark Paris night.

Lorenzo Alcazar barked into the phone plastered to his ear in an obvious rage. What the hell do you mean she's alive?

His harsh voice snapped Carly to attention. She'd been quietly doing her nails in anticipation of the glorious news that Saint Robin Scorpio had died a gruesome death and now, it appeared the plan had failed.

I pay you to get results! I pay you to carryout my orders! I want her dead...I don't care if Morgan stopped you, kill him if he gets in your way again. The furious man paced the master suite of his yacht practically wearing a hole in the carpet. And they disappeared? How did that happen? Damn you! The sound of the glass of scotch Lorenzo had just thrown at the wall ricocheted throughout the room and Carly visibly cowered deeper into the bed trying to make herself invisible. Fine. Just find her, and make sure she and her little pals all get back to Port Charles. I'll take care of this myself.

The messenger winced as his phone was harshly pulled from his ear. He glared at the man in front of him rebelliously. What now? He struggled against the ropes that held him to the chair in vain, succeeded only in burning the skin on his wrists. You might as well just kill me. I did what you asked.

Oh no, we aren't done with you yet. Johnny O'Brien answered. You may have information we need, valuable information. It's too bad for you, you're too stupid to cover your tracks. He looked up at the delivery boy hired to bring the bomb to Robin's house. Or maybe, it's just your bad luck that you found a delivery guy with a photographic memory. He grinned at the young man. Thanks.

The boy nodded silently. When the American grabbed him hours earlier, he'd been terrified but when he finally realized what his package had caused, the fear turned to remorse. His own sister met a violent death when the cafe she was sitting in had been bombed by terrorists. Since then, he'd been constantly on alert for suspicious characters. When the man in the chair had given him the job and passed off the package, he'd put off warning bells in the boys head so on a hunch he followed the weird guy back to this hovel. Now he was really glad he did.

What will it take to buy your silence? Johnny asked withdrawing his wallet.

No need for that O'Brien. Stephanie Anderson entered the dirty room; The World Security Bureau could use some good people. She told the boy in fluent French and offered him her card along with an envelope filled with francs. You can call that number any time.

Merci. The boy gasped his eyes wide with excitement.

You can go home now. Thank you for all your help. She smiled wistfully as he hurried away remembering herself at that age, young and eager to begin her life.

Hello beautiful! Johnny whistled taking her in his arms and placing a gentle kiss on her full, soft lips. I miss you.

I miss you too. She sighed. But this is not the time or place. There's a car waiting downstairs to take you to the airport.

The bomber spoke up, Hey sugar how about giving me some of that sweetness? He cackled.

Within seconds the butt of her gun crashed down on his head knocking him unconscious. Shut the fuck up! She shouted as Johnny pulled her back.

Easy Steph. He's just a creep.

Yeah but he almost killed Robin and you. If anything had happened to either one of-

But we're fine. He told her. How's Jason?

Good, they are on their way to a safe house for a few days. We'll take this guy into custody and hopefully get some good Intel on Alcazar from him.

And me? He asked.

You're going back to Port Charles. She shrugged. The WSB will be in touch.

Steph, I'll go, but when this is all over-

I promised Johnny, one last mission and I'm retired...we'll be together.

He smiled at her. Who would have thought when I visited Robin that summer 3 years ago, I would have found the woman of my dreams.

She wrapped her arms around his neck. And who would have thought that I would fall head over heels in love with a mobster?

As he dipped his head to kiss her again, the bomber groaned from the floor and Stephanie sighed. You better go. She told him.

Hey, He lifted her chin and looked into her eyes. You be careful.

I willI, I have everything to live for now.

Finally assured, he reluctantly left shaking his head with amusement as he heard the spitfire WSB Agents boot connect with the tied up mans ribs with a sharp crunch. Knowing Stephanie the way he did, he almost felt sorry for him.

The 4 weary travelers made their way into the living room of the French Provincial cottage that would serve as their home for the next several days. A light supper of cheeses, fruits and breads lay spread out on the elegant coffee table and a cheery fire blazed in the large grate, warding off the winter chill.

This doesn't look anything like any safe house I've ever seen. Jason quipped as he sunk into the sofa and grabbed a plate.

Well, only the best for the Scorpio family. Sean Donnelly told him. The WSB holds them in the highest regard. Robin's father is a legend in the Bureau.

Yeah, Daddy was pretty cool wasn't he? Robin smiled remembering the countless stories she'd heard of her father's daring exploits.

He was a real life James Bond. Her uncle agreed with her. Now there is a secure phone in the kitchen. You can reach me at any time, day or night. The fridge is well stocked; there are plenty of bedrooms all with clean linen, a couple of computers in the library...and about 100 acres to walk around. The nearest house is 5 miles away so no one should disturb you. He headed toward the door. And if anything does happen there's a car in the barn. He gave Robin a quick hug. If you need anything-

I know. She told him. Tell Mom I'm fine. I love you.

I love you too sweetheart. Goodnight.

Robin turned back to the other 3 people in the room. She noted the distance Brenda was keeping between her and Aiden with worry. Her heart ached for her cousin who looked lost and completely exhausted. And poor Brenda, just when she thought she was finally finished with a horrible chapter in her life, another skeleton came out of the closet to dredge it all up again.

Robin, come and eat Baby, Jason called. He gazed at the beautiful woman with concern. She kept wincing as if the light hurt her eyes and there were dark circles under her eyes. When she was within reach he pulled her down next to him and began to rub the tension out of her neck and shoulders with his good hand. Are you OK? He asked softly.

I'm fine, She replied. I just have a splitting headache and I'm tired. It's been a long day.

Robin, you need to eat. Aiden reminded her. Here. He held out an overnight bag that contained all her medication.

Thanks Aiden. She shook out the correct dosage and went to pour a glass of water.

I'll get it. Brenda suddenly needed to do something with her hands, anything to keep from looking Aiden in the eyes.

Robin took the offered glass and gulped down her pills. Next Brenda handed her a plate of food. Brenda...could you just sit down? She asked her friend. You must be dead on your feet.

I think I'm just going to go up to bed. She answered.

Bren. Aiden moved toward her but she held out a hand to stop him.

Don't touch me. She told him icily and immediately regretted it when she saw the hurt cloud his eyes. Look, I just need some time...and some sleep.

But Brenda, we have to talk about this. Let me explain. Aiden pleaded.

Explain what? Jason jumped in. How you knew the twin of the man who held her hostage for 4 years yet didn't bother to tell her? We're you going to save that for the wedding night.

Jason! Robin scolded. You have no right to judge Aiden without hearing him out. She went to Aiden and wrapped her arms around his waist in a comforting hug. Look, why don't you go up to bed. She soothed. We'll talk in the morning.

He looked at her and nodded. You're right. He sighed. Goodnight, I'm glad you're OK.

Once both of them disappeared up the staircase, Robin glared at Jason.

What? He questioned.

I would think you'd have a little more sympathy for Aiden and the position he's in. She told him bluntly.

All I know is that he lied to both you and Brenda about who he is Robin. He's lucky I didn't knock him out. He grumbled feeling like a little boy who was being chastised for no reason.

First of all, He never lied to anyone...he just didn't say anything. You, of all people should understand that. She pointed out.

But... Jason stammered back.

Look Jason, Robin walked to him and allowed him to draw her into his lap. I don't want to fight with you about this. You know that Aiden is a WSB agent. He is sworn to secrecy on a lot of stuff.

But what he knows, and did could have gotten you killed today. Jason admonished. Don't you have a pact to always be honest with each other? Didn't he break that promise by not telling you about Lorenzo?

Seeing the love for her and the genuine terror he had felt in his vivid blue eyes, Robin tenderly caressed his face with her hand. He didn't keep anything from me. She admitted. I knew.

You knew? And you let Brenda get involved with him without telling her? Jason asked dismayed.

I couldn't...it wasn't my place, and it's classified information. She told him simply.

Why? Seeing Robin's trepidation, he changed tactics. Robin, we're going to find out tomorrow anyway. Brenda and I are in the middle of this, whether the WSB likes it or not...we have a right to know.

I know, I know. She acknowledged. It's just that...well Lorenzo was...

What Baby? You can trust me with this. Jason coaxed gently, taking her hand and entwining his fingers in hers.

He was a WSB Agent. She informed him. In fact, he was Aiden's partner.

In the early light of dawn, Robin Scorpio slipped down the stairs of the French safe house into the bright, shabby chic kitchen. She'd slept like the dead after the excitement of the previous day waking only when she heard the creak of someones soft footsteps outside her door. She knew her best friend had a lot on her mind and whenever that happened she had developed a habit of rising first thing in the morning to seek out Robin's counsel before the younger woman headed to work. Once again, her instincts proved correct as she found Brenda curled up in the breakfast nook, staring out the window at the softly falling snow.

Are you OK? Robin asked slipping in beside her quiet friend and placing a comforting arm around her shoulders.

Hmm. Brenda nodded and took a sip of the cup of coffee in front of her.

You made coffee? Robin joked knowing the other woman's culinary skills amounted to boiling water but only if absolutely necessary.

Brenda gave her a weak smile. It's instant.

Robin grabbed the cup and took a tentative sip, wrinkling her nose in disgust. And it's crap. She grimaced. I'll brew a pot. She rose and rummaged through the breadbox pulling out a loaf of homemade country white bread. And I'll make you some toast. Bren, you need to eat. She scolded when her friend tried to protest.

Within minutes, 2 piping cups of coffee heavy with cream and sugar, a plate of toast with butter and a jar of blackberry jam sat on the table between the 2 women. They ate in silence, Robin knowing without words that Brenda would open up when she was ready.

A noise on the stairs startled them both. Brenda scrambled to her feet and fled when she saw who was there. Robin gave her cousin a sad smile and moved to give him a reassuring hug. Give her time Aiden. She's just acting on instinct.

I should have told her though. Aiden shrugged. I know how she feels about-

Stop it. Robin held her hand up. You had your reasons. And no matter what, you can't change the past.

I know...but...

Robin sighed. Why is there always a but in this family? Why don't you build a fire and I'll go talk to her?

You don't have to Robin. I owe her an explanation...and Jason-

I filled him in a little bit already. And the story will come from you. I'm just going to soften her up a little bit.

Thanks. Aiden smiled gratefully at his cousin as she slipped from the room.

In Port Charles, Lorenzo Alcazar awoke feeling angry. His head ached ominously as he tried to remember the dream he'd been having before Carly Corintho's stomped to the bathroom like a thundering elephant. The ladylike graces were certainly not her strong suit.

He sighed and pounded the pillow in frustration. He'd been happy in slumber. Remembering a time that slipped through his grasp like wisps of smoke. The faces in the dream were cloaked and hidden, blurred images he now had no chance of recalling.

Carly appeared again and grinned like a Cheshire Cat. What's the plan today? She whispered crawling next to him and laying her head in his lap.

What? He barked distractedly climbing out of the bed and away from her. She was beginning to get on his last nerve, so much so he wondered how Corintho's had put up with her for such a long period of time. Purgatory on earth was his best guess.

To kill the Saint. She shouted at him. Lorenzo, if you don't pull your head out of your ass soon this whole thing is going to blow up in our faces.

Carly, it's all under control...soon Robin Scorpio will be nothing but a memory. He told her as he went to find some aspirin. Now if only I could regain some of my own-

Robin found Brenda in the library curled up on one of the overstuffed leather sofas, tears streaming silently down her face. Hey, She said softly sitting next to her friend and offering her a Kleenex.

I'm sorry. I just can't believe that Aiden lied to me. Brenda hiccuped wiping her eyes and blowing her nose.

Whoa, hold up. He didn't lie to you. Robin responded.

Yes he did. He didn't tell me that he knew the man who held me hostage for 4 years had a twin brother. I had a right to know that.

Brenda, Robin reminded her friend, I was there the night Aiden told you about his life. I heard him tell you that if you weren't able to accept the fact that his life is dangerous and he knows things he can never tell you then the relationship couldn't happen.

Yes, but he also promised he'd always tell me if he knew something that would put me or any of my loved ones in danger. Well this qualifies don't you think? I thought that for once I found a man who wouldn't try to keep things hidden for my own good. Brenda rose and began pacing across the room as she ranted wildly gesturing with her arms and hands. I've had my fill of men who deceive all in the name of protecting me. First there was Sonny, then the white knight Jaxass, and finally Luis. All 3 kept secrets from me and each relationship turned out to be nothing but a pack of lies. I can't believe I fell for it again.

Robin's expression turned cold. Aiden is nothing like any of those men, not in his heart and soul where it matters. You know that Brenda. And every secret is not lie.

Oh so who died and made you queen of all that is right and good? The only time it counts is when it happens to you? Is that it Robin? Only your relationship with Jason qualifies for the deceit and secret Olympics?

Don't pack the bags Brenda, we aren't going there. Robin hissed. I lived that life with Jason, not you. And I know my cousin. He is a good man with a strong heart and he has been nothing but honest with you. Maybe if you stop making this all about you, you'll see the truth.

And what is that? That it was none of my business? That Aiden had to protect me from memories of Luis so that he could hold onto me?

No. Robin answered before standing and heading toward the door. Brenda, I love you. You are a sister to me in every way. But sometimes you are so self-centered I want to scream. Did you ever think maybe the person Aiden was trying to guard from pain wasn't you? Maybe it was his own heart he was trying to protect.

Jason Morgan climbed down the stairs into the kitchen finding Aiden sipping a cup of coffee and pushing eggs around a plate listlessly. I know how you feel. He commiserated with the man whom he was beginning to feel he could call friend one day.

Not bloody likely Mate. Aiden sighed and got up to poke at the fire burning cheerily in the grate. You and Robin are back on the right track. You didn't sleep alone last night.

Yeah I did. Jason told with a shake of his head.

Really? But Robin-

Informed me at the door that taking it slow did not mean going to bed together right away, even if all we did was sleep. Jason chuckled remembering how shocked he'd felt when the woman he loved more than his own life gently rebuffed him with a sweet, tender kiss and told him goodnight.

Ahh man! Aiden groaned in sympathy. Tough break.

Not as tough as yours though. Jason replied pouring himself a cup of Joe and sitting down being careful of his broken arm.

No, I guess not. Look...I owe you an explanation- Aiden started and Jason stopped him.

I owe you an apology Aiden. I had no business jumping down your throat last night. Robin filled me in on a few things and I understand a little more now. It's no excuse, but I just get so worked up when I think Robin's in danger, I sort of lost my head.

Apology accepted. Thanks Mate. I still owe you and Brenda an explanation though. As soon as everyone is here, I'll tell you what I know.

Maybe it will help give us some insight as to why this head case has targeted Robin. Jason replied as the woman in question stomped into the room.

Sometimes she makes me so mad I could spit! Robin shouted as she began opening and slamming cupboard doors in an effort to calm down.

Jason and Aiden couldn't help the small smiles that began to spread across their faces. Both literally had to hide behind their mugs to keep from laughing at the spitfire in front of them. She looked so darned cute in her messy ponytail and oversized mens style silk pajamas with a cow print all over them and in her anger her face was flushed a soft, pretty red.

What? She demanded as Jason choked on a mouthful of coffee trying to keep down a chuckle. Looking at their faces, Robin's temper fled almost instantly. Seeing the 2 men she loved more than any in her life bonding even if it was to giggle at her eased the frustration in her heart. If Jason could forgive and even like Aiden, there was definitely hope for Brenda.

Jason took her in his arms as best he could and held her tightly. You are so adorable when you are pissed. He informed her. Even when you were yelling at me, I always found it hard to keep a straight face.

You and Aiden both. She smiled.

I'll go talk to Brenda. He said as he kissed her forehead before heading out.

He found her in the library once more on the overstuffed couch, muttering to herself under her breath. When she saw him she glared. Come to gloat, lug head. Brenda found another man that screwed her over. Once again the best relationship I've had was being married to you. She said sarcastically, not yet willing to give up her hurt.

Shut up Brenda. Jason sank down beside her. I didn't come to laugh at you.

Oh but that's your favorite game; pretending to be holier than thou, the oh so mighty perfect Jason Morgan. And now you have Robin back and you can both sit around and have a few shits and giggles over poor pathetic Brenda.

Do you ever stop running your mouth long enough to listen to what you're saying? He asked incredulously.

She took his side! Brenda shouted in frustration.

Yeah, and after 4 years of you playing dead you show up on Robin's doorstep and she forgives you without a second thought. Brenda, you're lucky that woman loves you so much. Most people would have thrown you out on your ass, including me!

That shut her up. She sat silent and stunned waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Jason rubbed his eyes tiredly. Talking to Brenda always seemed to give him a major headache. I can't even believe I'm about to tell you this. He shook his head.

What? She blurted out sullenly.

Brenda, you have a right to be mad at Aiden for not telling you...but you need to stop thinking with your head.

What did you say? She stared at him in shock.

You need to stop thinking with your head Brenda. Start thinking with your heart.

Ever since I've known you, you've told me to use my head...and now when I do...you say use your heart? What kind of screwed up logic is that? Are you sure you didn't hit your head again in the explosion?

I'm fine Brenda. Look for once just trust me OK? What does your heart tell you?

Brenda sat for a moment before whispering, That there's more to this story than I know, and that Aiden is a good man, who deserves me to hear him out before I runaway.

Exactly. So let's go. He offered her his good hand and led her back to the kitchen.

They found Aiden and Robin talking quietly in the breakfast nook, watching the snow building on the ground. Already a few inches had accumulated and the thermometer was dropping. Inside however, the crackling fire had warmed the room to a comfortable, cozy temperature.

Jason slid in next to Robin and she rested her head on his shoulder, taking strength from his presence. She'd heard the story Aiden was about to tell once before, when her cousin, drunk and miserable had poured his heart out to her. It cut her to the core then with the depth of his pain and she was not relishing the wounds it would tear open now.

He began softly, in a slow halting voice, talking about growing up alone and spending most of his adult life searching for a family, his family. 5 years earlier, he joined the WSB in hopes of learning more about his aunts Alex and Anna. It was then that he met Lorenzo Alcazar, a renegade and outcast from his own family because in their eyes, he was on the wrong side of the law.

Zo was a great guy, a brilliant man who spent his childhood in his brothers shadow. Aiden explained. No matter how hard he tried, or what he did, Luis was the one who always won their fathers approval. Maybe it was because Zo was honest and Luis, well he was only too willing to follow in the footsteps of Lucio Alcazar as a premiere arms dealer and drug lord. So in desperation, Zo became a WSB Agent.

He was one of the best too. He had a mind like a steel trap, and he was better than anyone I ever saw at not getting involved with the Mark. He was always able to keep his distance and he brought down criminal after criminal. But after hours, he was warmhearted, generous to a fault, a man you'd trust with your life. He was like the brother Id never had but always wanted, we were more than just partners we were family.

When I found out Anna and Alex were alive, he was there for me, happy that I'd found relatives at last...and that they accepted me. They both loved him too...and then 2 years ago, everything fell apart. Aiden's voice broke as he remembered the horrible night that ultimately led to his partners downfall within the Bureau.

Brenda took a breath seeing the pain in Aiden's faith and asked a question to give him a moment. Did you know him Robin?

I talked to him once, on the phone, but that was it. She shrugged and reached for her cousin's hand giving it a gently squeeze to urge him to continue.

He nodded and in a slightly stronger voice started again. He had a fiancé, a beautiful woman with long red hair and porcelain skin and a heart so pure and true you couldn't help but fall in love with her. And fall Zo did, hard. Marcella became his whole world.

What happened to her? Jason asked holding his breath, because by the look on Aiden's face, he thought he already knew.

Lucio thought it was time someone sent a message to his wayward son. To reel him back in to the family fold. Luis, you see, wasn't as focused on the family business as he once had been. He had a new obsession and Lucio was calling home the backup. On his orders, 2 men broke into Zo and Marcella's home while he was away on assignment and executed her. They left him a note that said simply, Father knows best.

It destroyed him...I'd never seen a man so lost before, aching with so much grief and rage all at the same time. Ironically enough though, it worked in a sick sort of way.

What do you mean? Brenda asked.

Aiden sighed softly trying to relax so he could continue. Take your time Aiden. Robin told him and he again nodded.

He told his story long into the afternoon, a painful, heartbreaking tale of a shattered man. Lorenzo tried to hold it together, but his loss was too great a burden on his shoulders. He blamed not only his father but also the WSB and even Aiden as irrational as it seemed. He began to disappear for long periods of time and on one fateful day, he arrived on his partners doorstep and told him it was finished. Lucio Alcazar was dead. All the newspapers would say it was natural causes but Lorenzo claimed he smothered the man in his sleep.

For a few months, a hopeful air hung over the partnership between the 2 men. But soon enough Zo was back to his old tricks, disappearing, not showing up for assignments and when he did he was sloppy making what seemed to be rookie mistakes that cost several lives.

It had been a fluke really; finding out Lorenzo was running drugs and arms for his brother. Robin's mother, while running a background check on a known drug lord found a recent photo of the 2 men together. Instantly suspicious, Anna informed Aiden. Her young nephew found it difficult if not impossible to believe. But when their 3rd mission in a row ended in disaster, his own instincts kicked in.

He broke into Zo's home when his partner had disappeared and entered a secret room he didn't even realize Aiden knew about. What Aiden found caused his heart to plummet. Files on every agent that had died in the recent missions and one on his partner. Lorenzo Alcazar had committed treason against the bureau, sabotaging his comrades at every turn and now he planned to kill Aiden as well.

He was actively working with his brother, Luis, building a drug and arms empire. But the question was why? What did he have to gain?

Before the WSB could discover his motives, the final mission began. Not willing to risk another life to Zo's madness, Aiden confronted him in a final showdown that would give him months of nightmares.

How did you find out? Zo hissed at him.

Anna. Aiden replied simply.

It took you long enough. Came the taunt. I thought you were smarter than that Aid. Too bad I have to kill you now. His partner hissed at him.

Whatever his failing in identifying Zo's breakdown, Aiden Devane was a good agent, one of the best. He quickly sized up his precarious situation. The two men stood on top of cliff overlooking the ocean. He knew if he could maneuver Zo to the edge, he might have a chance. He began to talk fast. Zo, why? He took a step forward and as expected the other man stepped back.

Because my family loves me! My brother needs me He hissed. All you ever did was take and take. He ranted.

Come off it Zo...you're my brother. You're my partner. Aiden inched another few steps forward, raising his gun. Just put the gun down, and we'll get you help.

I don't need your help. I never needed you don't you see? Alcazar put his own gun up and aimed at Aiden's head. It's you or me. One of us won't leave this place alive

In that instant Aiden knew and the split second before Zo fired he shot his partner, his best friend, his brother and watched as he tumbled backwards off the steep cliff into the ocean below. He sank to his knees sobbing and begging the heavens for forgiveness but all he heard was the crash of water against rock.

When he finished talking, Brenda reached out to take him in her arms, her own tears mingling with his. Finally she understood what Robin meant when she told her Aiden's secret wasn't about her, it was himself he tried to protect by burying the guilt and memory far away just so he could survive another day. Oh baby. She choked out. I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry-

Brenda...are we? He couldn't bring himself to ask and yet he needed to know, to be reassured.

OK? She finished for him. I don't know...but we will be. I love you Aiden Devane. It was the first time she dared to speak the words she'd felt for months. I love you so much.

I love you too Brenda. He whispered against her neck, holding her tightly.

For a moment, Jason and Robin allowed them to be lost in each other...but questions had to be answered sooner or later. Robin softly cleared her throat and the 2 turned their attention back to the matter at hand.

So did they ever... Jason asked.

Find the body? Aiden finished for him. No. They searched for days only recovering a shoe and his gun.

And why is Robin the target? Brenda was confused. Why not Aiden or the WSB?

Because I'm the link. Robin answered looking at Jason. Not just to Aiden and my mother but to all of you. Zo blames Sonny, Jason and you for Luis death. And it would be too easy to just kill you one by one.

He wants us to suffer. Jason said. And that means we have to live with what he lived with when he lost Marcella. The loss of only one person would torment each of us equally...and that's Robin.

Stephanie Anderson stood on the docks of Port Charles staring at the cold water and checking her watch impatiently. She sighed with frustration; she was early as usual, a long ingrained habit that potentially could blow her cover and endanger everyone who she was assigned to protect. She moved quickly toward Kelly's, the local diner Johnny O'Brien and Robin Scorpio had so often told her about, hoping a hot cup of coffee would kill some time and warm her up.

As she neared the alley, 2 strong arms grabbed her and pulled her into the dark space. Before she could struggle free, she was spun around and a warm mouth descended onto her own. Instantly she melted into Johnny's chest and sighed. He deepened the kiss, tangling his hands in her long hair and pulling her closer still. All too soon she broke away and stared up into his beautiful green eyes, which twinkled mischievously at her. Hello gorgeous! He whispered, gently brushing her cheek with his thumb.

Stephanie smiled sweetly before deftly kicking his legs out from under him and pinning him to the ground. Don't ever sneak up on me like that again O'Brien! She scolded. I could have killed you!

OK! UNCLE! He cried laughingly. I give Steph, I won't do it again.

I didn't hurt you did I? She asked, her brow wrinkling with concern as she offered him a hand and helped him up.

Only my pride. He told her as he dusted himself off and moved to take her once again in his arms. Lord, I've missed you. He sighed, resting his chin on top of her head.

It's almost over. She responded, threading her arms around his waist and allowing herself for one brief moment to let her guard down and feel safe and loved. This probably isn't the time or the place for this. She whispered against his chest.

I know, but Steph I need you. He kissed her forehead gently.

Can we go somewhere? Out of this town where no one will see us? She pleaded softly unable to keep the desperation out of her voice.

He thought for a moment before taking a business card out of his pocket and quickly scribbling an address on it. Meet me here in 2 hours. He said before glancing out the alley to make sure no one was coming. The coast is clearGo now, Ill see you soon.

Promise? She asked.

Promise. Now go. He hurriedly kissed her one last time before she disappeared around the corner and into the diner.

Robin Scorpio hummed softly to herself as she tidied up the quaint French kitchen after her breakfast. In 2 short weeks the charming house had become a sort of home for her and when the troop of 4 headed back to Port Charles in the next few days, she would miss it terribly.

Best friend Brenda Barrett tripped down the stairs in an oversized sweater. Her petite stature seemed almost lost in the woolen folds but she still looked strikingly beautiful. She smiled brightly as she poured herself a cup of coffee and sat in the breakfast nook.

You look like the cat that ate the canary Bren! Robin commented as she joined her. What's going on.

Nothing. Brenda looked away not daring to meet Robin's eye's with her own. She slunk down into the cowl of her sweater and grinned even bigger.

I know you and it isn't anything...spill it! The other petite brunette demanded.

Brenda slid her left hand out showing off a stunning antique sapphire and diamond ring set in white gold adorning her finger. Isn't it beautiful? She whispered.

Oh Brenda! Robin gasped as tears filled her chocolate eyes. When did he do it?

Last night after dinner.

On that walk you didn't want to go on. Robin teased in a singsong voice.

You knew! accused Brenda. And you didn't tell me.

Of course I did. Her friend admitted. He was worried about the ring because, well-

Because of Sonny and Jax right?

Robin nodded slowly. He knew it wasn't as big or expensive or flashy as they got for you.

And what did you tell him?

I told him the truth...that the ring fitted you more than any expensive, gaudy bauble ever could. You pretend to be all those things on the outside, but on the inside Bren, you are just a simple girl with good taste who wants to be loved and to love in return. Robin informed her. It was his mother's you know? It's the only thing of hers he has-

I know. Brenda said. It makes it even more special to me. Good Lord Robin, I love Aiden so much, I sometimes think I'll burst.

Her friend smiled at her indulgently and gave her hand a warm squeeze. You're sure this time?

Brenda laughed. Yeah, I really am. I was in love with Sonny...don't get me wrong but it was...it was like being on fire all the time. There was never a moment to just catch my breath and enjoy it. And Jax...well I loved him. I loved what he gave me...security, safety, protection. He was my Knight in Shining Armor for so long. It's all I was to him really though, someone to rescue. When I started to really want to take care of myself, he fell off that horse quickly enough because he just didn't feel needed.

And Aiden? Robin prompted.

Aiden is what I've always wanted but never knew it. He never pushed me; he didn't try to save me when we first met. He let me find my own way even if it meant I failed. And he's so tender and sweet, yet there's this air of mystery about him and he can be tough and strong and adventurous. Brenda gushed.

OK, OK! Robin laughed. I am so happy for both of you...you deserve this.

Thanks Robin. Brenda went to her and embraced her oldest and dearest friend. Now what about you and Jason?

Robin sighed and got up to rinse her cup out. She leaned against the sink and gazed out the window at the darkening sky. A storms coming in. She said matter of fact.

Hey...don't avoid the question. That's my MO not yours. Brenda admonished.

I don't know Bren. I mean, since we got here and I rebuffed him that first night, he seems kind of distant. Don't get me wrong, he's been nice and all but-

Robin Scorpio! You WANT him to make a pass at you!! Brenda pretended to act surprised but already her mind was concocting a plan to get the couple together.

I do not! Her face turned bright red and she looked down sheepishly. Well, maybe I do. I don't know.

Robin, that man worships the ground you walk on. All you have to do is crook your little finger and he'll come running.

Maybe I pushed him away one too many times. Robin shrugged.

You are kidding right? He's just trying not to get too close because every time he so much as touches you Mr. Happy comes out to play. And believe me it's a visual I could do without.

Brenda! Robin looked shocked; her blush was back turning her ears a delicate shade of pink.

I'm only stating the facts sweetie! The real question is what are we going to do about it? Brenda looked at her brown eyes twinkling.

Whatever you are planning put it out of your head now! Robin ordered.

I'm not planning anything. Brenda giggled. I just think you should go for a roll in the hay.

What are you talking about? Robin shook her head confused as her friend just smiled and looked at the stairs where Jason and Aiden were making their way down.

Speak of the devil and he shall appear. She said cryptically.

Good morning. The boys mumbled as Robin began pulling on her coat. Brenda frantically motioned at Jason and pointed to the door. He looked at her like she was crazy.

Are you sure you want to marry someone who has fits? He teased Aiden who laughed.

You knew too? Am I the only one that didn't know? Brenda asked smacking her fiancés shoulder.

Ouch! Aiden winced. That's the whole point of a surprise Bren!

So! She snuggled under his arm sighing with satisfaction.

I'm going for a walk before it rains. Robin told them and as she turned Brenda again motioned at Jason.

When it appeared he was going to be too dense to take the hint she hissed. Go with her you moron! Loud enough so even Robin turned to look at her quizzically.

Um...Would you like some company? He asked her and she smiled brightly.

I'd love it, thanks. We'll see you guys later. She told the other couple before taking Jason's offered hand and slipping out the door.

Aiden turned to face his woman and wrinkled his brow. What are you up to? He asked.

I'm just giving them a friendly push in the right direction. She said innocently.

Brenda?

And if they have a nice romp in the hay while they're out there...well my work will be finished. She told him kissing him softly on the lips.

Bren...I really didn't need that visual. Thanks.

The lovers lay limbs entwined in the bed, sated and relaxed at last. Johnny O'Brien kissed the top of his fiancés head softly as he brushed the hair away from her face. I love you, you know that.

I know. Stephanie Anderson answered almost shyly before rising up on her elbows to look at him. I have to go.

I know.

Thank you for this afternoon...it was wonderful.

Steph, please don't... He tried to pull her back into the bed but already she was scrambling around the hotel room picking up her scattered clothing.

I have to. All the information the WSB trusts Sonny with is in that file. She pointed to the nightstand where she had laid a manilla envelope when she arrived. It may not help much because the director expects this to be over within a week.

Johnny nodded. And what do we get to know?

The basics, a little of Lorenzo's past, what you are up against. Also the information we managed to get from the bomber.

What's wrong Stephanie? This is more than a job to you...what aren't you telling me?

She sighed and slumped on the bed. He knew her so well, could read her every mood. It was pointless to try and hide anything from him, and she needed to confide in someone who she trusted, to unburden the pain she'd carried in her heart for so long. It's personal. She told him, biting her lip to keep the tears that welled in her eyes from spilling down her cheeks.

Baby, it's OK. You can tell me. Johnny leaned over to rub her back tenderly.

Lorenzo was WSB. He turned redcoat and sabotaged several missions that led to the deaths of several agents, including my partner...Elaine. She sobbed out. She was just 23 years old and so eager. I should have said no to the mission, I felt something was off the second we got the assignment but she was so determined, I...I couldn't let her down. And it cost her her life.

Oh Steph, it isn't your fault!

I know that in my head, but in my heart...I...It should have been me!

He'll pay for this! I promise you that! Johnny vowed.

I know. Stephanie turned to Johnny with steel in her voice. If I have to kill him with my bare hands...Lorenzo Alcazar will die.

Awakening with a start, Lorenzo Alcazar sat up drenched in sweat, his heart pounding fast and hard in his chest. He felt like he'd been running a race, desperately trying to catch up to something he needed to find peace but every time he got close, it disappeared around another corner just out of reach. With each passing day the nightmares were getting worse. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Marcella, heard her sweet voice, smelled her perfume and felt the soft silk of her skin beneath his fingertips. Then slowly the images would change to her pleading on her knees for her life, begging him to help her and to save the life of their unborn child. Their child, he hadn't even known she was pregnant until the doctors performed the autopsy and it had torn him apart, driven him insane with grief. Now in his dreams Marcella accused him nightly of murdering her and the baby.

He shook his head to clear it and looked with distaste at the warm body sleeping next to him. Carly Corinthos cared for no one but herself. He had tried to tell her once about his life but she all but refused to hear him. Soon it would all be over though, and he would strangle her in her sleep and dump the body where no one would find it. For now he needed her if he wanted to pull off his plan.

Lorenzo rose from the bed and went into the bathroom to rinse his face with cold water and stare at his reflection. He hated what he saw; a broken destroyed man who once had held the world in the palm of his man. In the back of his mind he knew he was wrong, that the people he was trying to destroy were not to blame for the death of Marcella. But he was too filled with anger, grief and hatred to stop the chain of events he'd already set in motion.

His cellphone rang tearing him away from his morbid thoughts and he snatched at it quickly. What? Slowly his expression changed from annoyance to a twisted grin that could have been described as a sort of sick joy. You found them...good! Take them out...now.

Robin and Jason walked along the cottage grounds enjoying the crisp winter air and each others company. The conversation was light, both avoiding anything too serious but it didn't stop the sexual tension, which crackled like sparks between them. Jason wanted nothing more than to take this beautiful petite woman into his arms and kissing her breathless but he held back, respecting what he believed to be Robin's wishes and giving her space.

She smiled at him wistfully, wishing he'd do something anything, unsure of how to make the first move herself, and even slightly scared of being rebuffed. She stopped and leaned against a tree to catch her breath for a moment. Are you looking forward to going home? She asked him.

He shrugged. Home for me is wherever you are. He replied simply and gently brushed a loose strand of hair away from her face.

She couldn't stand it anymore and grabbed the front of his jacket, pulling him close and planting a soft kiss on his lips. It was all the encouragement he needed. He wrapped his good arm around her waist and deepened the kiss like a thirsty man who had just been given a glass of water after days in the desert.

Before they could go any further, Mother Nature decided she had other plans. The storm that had been threatening for hours let loose in a torrent of icy rain. Within seconds both Jason and Robin were drenched. She looked at him and burst out laughing as he grabbed her hand and began to run toward the large rustic barn, which was the nearest shelter.

Inside it was dry and relatively warm. Robin quickly led the way up to the loft where the extra tack blankets and towels were stored. She spread a flannel blanket across a pile of sweet hay so they would have someplace to sit to wait out the downpour and then slipped out of her wet jacket. As she began rubbing her hair dry with a towel, she turned and stopped when she saw Jason, standing before her, wet and shirtless, an image of male perfection. Instantly her breath caught in her throat and the material in her hands slipped to the ground.

He gazed at her, a predator stalking his prey and took a step closer, slipping a hand against the wet off white button down shirt, pressing his forehead against hers. Robin. he whispered in a voice ragged with desire.

She silenced him with her mouth, kissing him passionately and pressing her body close against his. His fingers moved to the buttons on her blouse, practically tearing them off and exposing the hidden skin underneath.

Robin...I want you. He gasped. I won't be able to stop in a moment.

I don't want you to- Came the sultry reply as her arms slipped around his neck and they sank to the floor completely lost in each other.

Hours later they still lay together, sated and drowsy from an afternoon of lovemaking. Her fingers curled in his hair, tenderly stroking his cheek, which rested in the hollow of her stomach and hips. His mouth traced a trail across the satin of her skin causing a small sigh of pleasure to escape her lips.

Mmm...that was amazing. She told him.

I'm never letting you go again...you know that right? He smiled up at her.

Oh is that a fact? She shot back, crooking her eyebrow and grinning mischievously.

At this moment I'm seriously considering tying you up to the wall and keeping you here forever.

Promises, promises! She teased him.

He pounced and began to tickle her mercilessly as she broke into peals of laughter. Say it Robin. He ordered.

Never. She gasped tears streaming down her cheeks. Stop! Please!

Not until you tell me. He demanded continuing his assault.

I love you Jason. Only you...always you. She answered and his blue eyes grew serious as he lowered himself and kissed her mouth passionately. He moved down, pressing soft kisses along her jaw and the hollow of her throat, descending to her breast where he stopped to tease the nipple into a hard peak. Already Robin felt need and desire growing in her again as Jason moved lower still across her firm stomach.

Suddenly, he stopped moving and she looked up startled to find him staring at the small horizontal scar above her pelvic bone, the only remaining reminder on her body of that fateful day 5 years earlier when she'd lost the tiny life inside of her. She tried to curl up and hide her shame but he wouldn't allow it. Tenderly he pulled her hands away and traced it with a single finger before placing a single featherlight kiss on her skin.

Please, don't. She whispered. It's from...from that day.

Robin...I...I need-

No Jason. It hurts too much and talking about it won't change anything.

But I need to know...to feel what you went through. Robin, I failed you in so many ways. Please let me share this burden with you.

She sat up then, eyes filling with unshed tears as she gazed at his face, so filled with an aching longing it nearly broke her heart. Oh Jason, you didn't fail me. I failed you. If I had been stronger...if I had taken care of myself... She trailed off staring down at her hands.

He lifted her chin up and forced her to look into his eyes. You didn't do anything wrong. I'm the one that threw us away, the one who never went after what I wanted more than anything in the world. I wasn't there when you needed me the most and I will always regret that.

Are you sure you want to know? She asked him quietly, her eyes never leaving his face. You might hate me afterwards. She told him.

Never Robin. And I don't just want to know...I need to. He kissed her forehead and wrapped her in his arms as she told him what happened when she left him and Port Charles far behind.

As she spoke, his heart grew heavier with a deep sorrow for all she went through, alone. The pain of losing everything she held dear and sacred and then the worst day of her life, the day the letter from Carly arrived with a check to pay for the abortion of her, no their child. She'd gone for a walk in shock and heartache. There in the park, the physical pain started and she knew when she saw all the blood. Her last thought before slipping into unconsciousness had been I've lost our baby, Jason will never forgive me. When he heard that, the man in question allowed the tears he'd held in check to fall freely down his cheeks.

I would have died if my roommate Andrea hadn't followed me. Sometimes, for days afterwards I wished she hadn't. Her voice broke on the last word, finally admitting to someone other than herself that she wished she'd joined all the people she'd lost over the years.

I'm so sorry Baby. I'm so sorry. He cried out, holding her tighter as if that could take away the loss.

The scar is where they had to go in to stop the bleeding. No one has ever seen it except for the doctors and now you. I'm sorry Jason...For the longest time I thought if I had fought harder. If I had been stronger... Tears streamed down her cheeks, clouding her deep brown eyes.

Robin stop it. You did everything you could. He turned her to face him, cupping her face in his hands. I love you, so much. If I had paid more attention, if I hadn't let Carly into our lives. He sighed. We've lost so much because of me...I don't know how to make it up to you.

No. You don't have to do anything. Jason, we both made mistakes. We both played a part in the breakup of our relationship. It took me years to realize that. And if OUR child had been meant to be...he or she would be here now. She gently wiped the tears from his cheek with a finger.

If...if our baby had lived- He hesitated trying to find the right words. Would you have told me? Came the question.

Yes. She answered immediately. Before I miscarried, I bought a plane ticket home...to tell you in person. I knew it was never you. She told him simply and he understood that she was aware of who was keeping her messages away from him.

Can you still...I mean, it won't change anything Robin...but can you still- He held his breath afraid not for himself but because he knew how much she wanted kids, how important it was to her.

She nodded and he swept her up into a crushing embrace. The risks are the same, but they've made a lot of strides in handling HIV pregnancies.

He pulled back and kissed her stomach. In that moment he knew with certainty he was where he belonged, that to live, to breathe...he needed her and always would. I want to fill you with babies Robin. I want to watch you grow with the weight of our children...to see you glow with joy...Marry me?

She gasped with surprise and fresh tears flooded her eyes. All thoughts of taking things slow fled her mind as she answered, Yes Jason...a million times yes!

The 3 men moved approached the house quickly and quietly, having left their vehicle at the end of the road. They were well trained to handle their assignment and this one appeared to be routine. They had watched for 2 days to discern the placement of the cameras around the property in case they needed to take them out. The storm however had rendered them useless, jamming reception. They considered it a lucky break. If they failed in their mission, their employer would not be happy.

As they neared the house, they split up each going to a separate prearranged location. They peered through the windows to ensure the intended target was inside. If she escaped again, it could cost them their own lives. While staring through the library window, one noticed a petite brunette laughing with a dark haired man. He checked the photo in his pocket and nodded grimly. She was a beautiful woman, too bad she had to die. He signaled to his partners and began to spread gasoline around the building, an accelerant to spread the fire once the bomb detonated. A 2nd man set small explosive device near the kitchen and the 3rd set one near the front door effectively cutting off the exits to the house.

They regrouped, the whole operation taking no more than 5 minutes and headed back toward the car.

How long? The leader asked checking his watch.

10 minutes. Came the reply.

Good, we'll be far away by then.

Brenda Barrett smiled up at her fiancé gratefully as he handed her a cup of tea. Thank you.

He sat down next to her, then stood back up again almost immediately and began to pace.

Aiden...will you relax? You are driving me crazy. Brenda scolded gently.

They should have been back by now. It's dark outside and it isn't safe out there.

Robin and Jason are more than capable of taking care of themselves. She smiled back at him.

Oh you are really enjoying this aren't you? Aiden asked her sarcastically. I know what you think...you think your matchmaking skills were put to good use this afternoon.

Maybe. She replied smugly. Besides, Robin is my best friend and I've never seen her happier than when she is with Jason. And he adores her. Admit it.

Yeah, yeah. He gave in grudgingly. She is happy, and I have to say after spending the last 2 weeks with him...He isn't as bad as I thought. Aiden mumbled.

What? Brenda laughed, her eyebrows raised. I don't think I heard you.

Come on Bren, don't make me say it. He tried to look irritated but his eyes danced.

Aiden likes Jason...Aiden likes Jason! Brenda sang out and he pounced on her as she screamed out.

Take it back Brenda! He teased. She squirmed free and ran around the couch as he chased after her.

Come on Devane, just admit it! I mean he is awfully cute. I married him. She told him boldly.

He went after her then, grabbing her around the waist and pushing her down on the sofa and straddling her waist. Both stopped laughing as they stared at each other, chests rising and falling rapidly as they caught their breath. I love you Brenda. Aiden whispered caressing her face.

She bit her lip softly and smiled up at him. Come here. She tugged at his shirt to pull him closer.

Suddenly he sat up and wrinkled his brow, sniffing the air tentatively. Do you smell gas? He asked her seriously. Despite spending a few weeks in a relaxed atmosphere, Aiden was WSB trained and at the smallest sign of change, all his senses went into high alert.

You're just imagining things- She told him trying again to yank him down to her.

Shhh. He hushed her and listened. Do you hear that?

What? Brenda pouted.

A motor...a car.

Seriously Aiden, your paranoia is in overdrive. Let me relax you.

Yeah, yeah you're probably right. Aiden agreed and slowly, softly kissed her waiting, inviting lips.

Lorenzo Alcazar slept fitfully on the couch of his office, tossing and turning as the dream consumed him. It seemed so real. Marcella came to him time and time again in the past weeks. Every time it started the same way, her pleading with him to save her and their baby. Each time he failed and was left with an endless, aching hole where his heart used to be.

This dream however was different. Shed shown up shortly after he dozed off, right on schedule, her glorious auburn hair waving softly in an unfelt breeze. She smiled at him and held out her hand, urging him silently to take it.

He obliged eager to feel her touch again, even if it was only a dream. Ive missed you so much. He told her pulling her into his arms and burying his face in her neck.

I know. Ive missed you too. Came her reply as she tenderly kissed his forehead and led him through a small grove of trees to a cliff overlooking the ocean. He recognized it immediately as the place where they had first made love, where he proposed on bended knee, and ultimately if he had figured correctly where they had conceived the child he would never hold.

Zo...Come back to me. Marcella whispered as she looked out over the vivid blue of the water.

I'm right here. He told her wrapping his arms around her waist.

No, you aren't. You aren't the man I loved. You aren't the same. She insisted and tears filled her eyes.

But I am. He pleaded with her. I need you Marcella. Please-

Zo, I'm gone. It isn't your fault. You have to stop blaming yourself. Your pain is killing you, little by little. Cant you see that.

No! Without you I am nothing! He persisted. They took you from me...they murdered you.

No Zo. Your job, your friends..they had nothing to do with it. Aiden is your brother.

He took you from me. Lorenzo sobbed uncontrollably and sank to his knees. Marcella, I'm lost without you-

Listen to me, You must stop this hate, this war. The woman you are after is good and kind. She would love you like a brother, the way Aiden loves you still. He is your family...let him help you. Stop this Zo...stop this before it's too late. She begged, her heart aching to see him in so much pain and anguish.

II cant. He reiterated. It's already too late-

No it's not. You can stop this; you can end it. Please stop the nightmare. Remember I will always love you. She took a step back toward the cliff.

Marcella...what are you doing? He cried out.

Always Zo. You are my heart. Please for me, save yourself. She whispered as she stepped off the edge and tumbled into the abyss.

No!! Lorenzo screamed and sat straight up, his heart pounding in his chest. It had felt so real. Her words echoed in his head and he reached for the phone quickly.

Yeah it's me. Stop. I don't want her touched. He barked into the phone. No it cant be! He shouted and threw the receiver across the room and slumped holding his head in his hands in defeat. Oh Dear God. What have I done?

Jason and Robin dressed quickly in their still damp clothes smiling at each other. He couldn't resist pulling her toward him and planting soft kisses on her lips. You are so beautiful. He told her tucking a tendril of hair behind her ear.

And cold. She laughed. Come on, let's get back before Aiden starts to have a nervous breakdown.

Fine by me, so long as I get to sleep with my beautiful fiancé tonight. He informed her.

How do you think she'll feel when she knows you spent the afternoon with me? She teased him lightly.

I think she'll take it pretty well. He joked back as they both began to descend the stairs. Once they reached the bottom, Jason took his jacket off and placed it around her shoulders. I don't want you to get sick. He silenced her when she tried to protest. Besides I don't feel the cold.

But Jason...I-

No. Just take the jacket.

OK. She told him and took his hand as they began to walk back through the darkness.

Suddenly a loud series of explosions rocked the air and a flash of light lit the night sky.

What was that? Robin asked fear gripping her heart.

I don't know...come on. Jason grabbed her hand and began running for the house, both terrified of what they might find. As they reached the clearing, they stopped and stared. The entire house was engulfed in a massive fire. Stay here. Jason ordered Robin as she moved forward toward the inferno. In a blur she ran past him and he had no choice but to follow. Robin STOP! He commanded gripping her around the waist and holding her tightly. You cant go in there. You will die.

No, no please dear God no! She cried over and over. BRENDA! AIDEN! Robin fell to the ground sobbing. I can't lose them...please!

All Jason could do was hold her tightly and pray as they watched the fire burn.

A sick feeling of helplessness stole over him as he rocked the petite woman in his arms. Like a scene from a bad movie, cold rain pounded the couple while the fire, already completely engulfing the house belched black smoke and hissed with fury. He tasted his own tears, a small, bitter reminder of how much she had lost in her short lifetime. If there was a God, he had a cruel sense of humor to heap so much upon such small shoulders.

It felt like a lifetime, sitting there holding her, trying desperately to provide a minuscule amount of comfort, of warmth to her small frame. She was shaking so hard, he feared she would come apart at any moment. And then he heard it, the low hum of car engine. Instantly his senses were on alert. He stood and pulled her to her feet.

Robin. He whispered urgently. We have to get out of here.

No. Her voice sounded distant, lost. What if they're in there? We have to get them out!

Robin! Listen to me. His voice was firm, completely in control. If they are in that house, they are gone. Both Aiden and Brenda would die to protect you. They would kill me if I failed to protect you. A car is coming. If we don't move now, we may not escape. She barely nodded her understanding but she took his offered hand and Jason let out the breath he didn't know he'd been holding. Move fast, stay low. He ordered then softened and reached a hand out to caress her tear stained face. Robin, do you trust me?

She looked into his eyes, so vivid blue. She saw the love for her reflected in them and she gave him a watery smile. With my life Jason.

They began to run back toward the barn, to shelter and escape but the engine grew louder with each step and too late they realized their mistake. In desperation, they turned back toward the house and sprinted. She stumbled in a pothole and tumbled into him. Both of them fell to the ground as the car from the structure they had made love in hours before roared to a halt in front of them.

Jason rolled on top of Robin, shielding her with his body, determined to save her even at the cost of his own life. I love you Robin. Know that, always.

Robin! A familiar voice called out of the darkness. Where are you?

Aiden? Jason responded as small hands suddenly possessing great strength pushed him aside. She was up in a split second and running toward the sound, into a pair of sturdy arms. He held her tight lifting her off the ground and burying his face in her shoulder.

Thank God you are alright. He murmured against her neck. Robin I don't know what I would do without you.

Aiden...Is Brenda...where- She faltered, afraid to speak her thoughts aloud in case it made them true.

She needn't have worried so. The backdoor of the car flew open and Brenda was engulfing her, tighter than Aiden or Jason. Don't you ever scare me like that again! She scolded and promptly burst into tears.

How did you get out? Jason asked in admiration.

He heard a car. Brenda sobbed. And I didn't believe him. I told him he was delusional. But he couldn't let it go.

I got her out of the house and I saw a bomb by the door. We took off and within minutes everything exploded. My only concern was getting you 2 and getting the hell out of here.

Brenda, are you alright? Robin asked with concern. She was gazing at a cut across her friends right eye. That's going to need stitches.

Piece of wood. Brenda shrugged it off. It doesn't hurt.

Yeah, but it's going to leave a nasty mark. Jason smirked completely relieved that they were OK. He would never admit it, but Brenda had grown on him over the past few weeks and already, he was willing to call Aiden a friend if not a brother.

You shut up! Brenda laughed and swatted him playfully. Her little sis and ex husband were alive and well. Well, sopping wet and muddy but breathing and seemingly unhurt.

I hate to put a stop to the banter, but we better get a move on if were going to find shelter. Aiden interrupted. I'll call the bureau and see if there is another house where we can hole up.

And Robin, we need to get you out of those wet clothes before you get sick. Jason started guiding her to the car. Despite her relief at finding Brenda and Aiden unharmed, Robin pallor was white and drawn. Her teeth were chattering with cold.

There are blankets in there. We grabbed everything we could use from the barn. Brenda advised as she followed Robin into the backseat and began undressing her. Jason wrapped a blanket around her shoulders and kissed her lightly before climbing into the passenger door.

Aiden was last in. Sean says we can stay with him tonight and he'll find someplace else tomorrow. It seems Lorenzo still has some connections in the WSB. That's how they found us.

If he has an inside track, Jason glared out the window, won't they just find us again?

Sean can guarantee our safety. We'll have to go underground but it can be done.

No. Robin's voice was firm.

What? Aiden was incredulous.

No more running. No more hiding from this man. We're going back to Port Charles.

But Robin, he could kill- Aiden said.

And as he proved, he could kill me here or there or anywhere. I am not going down without a fight. We go home. Tonight.

Johnny O'Brien awoke to the sound of persistent knocking on his front door. He glared at the clock and groaned. It was still relatively early in the evening but he'd worked 18 hours straight and fell into bed at 6pm. Seeing the bright green letters flashing 9pm and realizing he slept a mere 3 hours only aggravated him more. He pulled on a robe and stumbled to the door, stubbing his big toe on his sofa and mumbling swear words under his breath. Whatever this is it better be damned important! He shouted as he tore open the door.

She grabbed him aggressively and kissed him hard on the mouth. Backing him up into the room, she slammed the door shut with her foot, her lips never breaking with his. Immediately he felt desire grow within him. He reached for her face and felt it wet with tears. He drew back and held her from him. Steph...What is it? He asked tenderly. It was unlike her to show this kind of emotion.

Please Johnny, hold me. She gasped out and he pulled her to his chest and let her cry, the most heartbreaking sound in the world.

Shhh, He soothed. It's alright, whatever it is Steph, we'll fix it.

She shook her head no and pulled back from him. There was an explosion. She said softly looking into his green eyes. At the safe house in France.

He stiffened with pure fury, his jaw clenching tight and locking. And Jason and Robin?

We don't know yet. They can't detect any movement from the house. The entire building is on fire. If they were inside, they're gone. The last was barely a whisper.

It's OK Steph. Jason and Aiden are as smart as they come and Robin grew up in this life. She knows all the tricks. They are going to be fine. He tried to soothe her but even to his own ears he wasn't very convincing.

I can't do this again. Stephanie sighed. I can't lose someone I love like my sister. And if she's gone-

Don't talk like that! He ordered and she stared at him blankly. He couldn't read her but he knew her mind was working overtime. Steph...what are you going to do? He asked not liking the sound of the silence in the room.

I'm going to kill him. She answered flatly and turned for the door.

He grabbed her arm as she tried to break free but he held her fast to his chest. Slow down! You cannot go off half cocked Stephanie. You'll only wind up dead and I'm not about to let that happen.

Try and stop me! Came the reply as she slammed her boot heel into his bare foot and again attempted to wrench herself away.

He wouldn't relinquish his hold on her despite the pain she inflicted. No Steph. His voice was low, soothing. I love you and I'm not about to lose you on top of my best friends in the world.

She struggled in vain for a few minutes more until the fight went out of her. At last spent, she began to cry softly. She's been so good to me. And I failed her. I couldn't protect her or stop it.

Johnny let her wail, his own tears spilling over. Steph, this is not your fault. You were doing your job. We will get through this. We will take care of business, I promise you. And if Jason and Robin are gone, heaven help Lorenzo Alcazar.

As if on cue, his cell rang out loudly. He reached for it and flipped it open. O'Brien. Man, where are you? And you're all OK? He let out a sigh of relief. The plane is there. Sonny made sure it was to be at your disposal any time. OK. I'll tell him...and Jason, hug Robin for me. We thought we lost you. He flipped the phone shut and smiled. They're both fine, a little cold, tired and wet...Brenda got a cut but-

She sank down into the sofa and put her head in her hands, hiding the tears of relief from him. Thank you God. She whispered.

Johnny kneeled in front of her and gently lifted her chin. I love you so much. You are my life.

I know. I love you too. She told him. But Johnny. I have to stop this. You know that right?

No Steph. We need to stop this. All of us, as a team. He lifted her into his arms and cradled her in his lap. She rested her head on his shoulder. Already she was growing heavy as her body relaxed into sleep

We don't have time for this. She mumbled.

Just rest Baby. You won't be any good to anyone completely exhausted...and we have a few hours until they get here But before he was even finished she was asleep. He kissed her forehead and shifted her to the couch. Tenderly he covered her with a blanket and walked into his small kitchen. He opened his phone and dialed. Yeah, Sonny...It's time.

Lorenzo Alcazar sat at the edge of his bed, head in his hands as the voices overtook him. You killed her, you killed her, you killed her. Over and over again.

Shut up! He screamed and took a long swallow from the bottle of vodka he held. He drained it dry and threw the bottle against the wall where it shattered. It was as if the dam on his anger and despair burst open and he rose, tearing the sheets off the bed, grabbing anything he could and crashing it against the walls. He raged around the room destroying everything in his path until at last he sank to the floor and buried his head in his hands.

Almost immediately the voice in his head took over. You killed her, you killed her, you killed her. He covered his ears with his hands trying to blot out the singsong sound. Please, please, stop! He wailed and miraculously another softer vocalization came through.

You didn't do it. She's OK.

Marcella? Lorenzo implored, eyes wide with a small glimmer of hope.

Zo, the woman is alive. The sound of her caressed him tenderly.

I didn't.

No. Now he could see her in front of him smiling at him, her eyes shining her love. She escaped...there is still time.

But what do I do? How can I fix this?

Let them help you my Zo. Let Aiden take care of you...you can find your way back to him.

I cant! He shook his head.

Yes you can...and you must start by removing the snake in your midst.

What does that mean? he questioned clearly frustrated.

You know in your heart. She paused, Zo, I am so sorry I had to leave you...so sorry you have had to suffer so.

That was my fault too. He sighed and lowered his head in defeat.

No, it wasn't. Marcella went to him and lifted his head so she could gaze into his eyes. Your only fault was in loving me so much you couldn't let me go. You must Zo-

I can't! He gasped, tears rolling down his cheeks.

You can...please, I am tired, I want to rest...only you can give that to me. Please Zo...let me sleep...Give me this one last gift. She begged him and held him gently.

He stared at her for a few minutes, this beautiful soul who had made his life complete. At last he nodded and in the resignation a small sort of peace spread through him. Will I see you again?

One day we will be together for eternity. I will always love you...and only you. She answered and with a soft kiss on his lips she vanished.

Lorenzo awoke on the floor in the middle of his bedroom and sat up blinking. He looked around almost expecting to see her but found only the mess he'd made instead. He shook his head trying to clear the fog that seemed to hold him captive. What was it she had told him? Get rid of the snake? What did that mean? And then the door opened.

Hello Lorenzo...I hear we have reason to celebrate!

And he knew who needed to be dealt with.

Carly Corinthos.

Jason sat next to the bed watching Robin sleep. He hated to wake her knowing she was worn out but they were about to land in Port Charles. Robin? He shook her gently. You have to wake up.

Hmmm She mumbled rolled over.

Come on baby. We are landing soon.

She sat up and smiled at him drowsily. She yawned and stretched like a kitten in a patch of sunshine. How long was I out?

Almost the whole flight. He laughed and pulled her into his arms. Robin it isn't too late to go back. We can turn right around and-

Shhhh Jason. I am not running away anymore. I'm done. She told him. How are we going to have a life if were in hiding all the time?

He sighed. Somehow I knew you were going to say that. Look, if we are going to do this, you have to listen to what I say...Brenda too.

OK. I can handle that.

He kissed the top of her head and nodded. You and she will lay low at the cottage with Courtney until this is all over. We've ordered extra guards to watch the place and you are not to tell anyone you are there. You got it?

Yes sir! She mock saluted him and giggled.

Robin, I'm serious. I don't want anything to happen to you and the less people that know you're there the better.

I know Jason. I get it OK. But so you know, I am a big girl and I can take care of myself. I know how to shoot a gun and I know how to remove a bullet.

You know how to shoot a gun? He asked surprised.

Don't look so shocked. Aiden said from the doorway. With her parents, uncle and me for relatives you should expect nothing less. In fact she's a better shot than me.

See? Robin gloated.

Fine. Jason threw up his hands. Then you better take this. He handed her a small pistol from the bedside drawer. It may be tiny but it packs a nasty punch. If anyone...and I mean anyone...threatens you, use it.

The captain broke in. Ladies and Gentlemen we will be landing in a few minutes. Please return to your seats and buckle up.

Jason took Robin by the hand and pulled her to her feet.

And what are you guys going to do? She asked Aiden as she slipped into her shoes by the bed.

Stephanie has been running surveillance on Zo and our man on the Yacht says he is pretty crazed. His men aren't guarding him as well as they should be. It's the perfect time to go get him.

Aiden...are you going to kill him? She demanded.

Not if I don't have to. He promised. Hey...You know I love you right?

Right back at you. She smiled and went to sit by Brenda who was sitting up groggily on the couch buckling her seatbelt.

A few minutes later they were on the ground taxing to the terminal and preparing to depart.

As they stood to leave, Robin pulled Jason to her for a long lingering kiss, entwining her fingers in his hair and pressing her body against his. He groaned softly against her mouth and pulled away.

Robin...I love you so much-

I know. Jason...please be careful. Nothing can happen to you-

I will, for you. He smiled and pressed his lips lightly over each eye, then her cheeks and lastly her soft, inviting lips.

Lets go you 2. Aiden called.

The 2 men, friends by circumstance, brothers by mutual respect ushered the women into the waiting car which sped away the second the door slammed shut.

Are you ready mate? Aiden asked.

Jason nodded, a look of fierce determination in his eyes. Let's do this. It ends. Tonight.

Robin Scorpio sat curled in the corner of Courtney Matthews couch, sipping a cup of hot tea and listening as storm that threatened hours earlier finally gave way in a bright burst of lightening followed by a booming clap of thunder. The rain poured down around the small cottage and she closed her eyes and let the sound surround her. She loved thunder storms especially when sitting next to a crackling fire and in the company of good friends. Usually they relaxed her, but tonight something felt...off. She shook her head and opened her eyes. It was just the days of running she told herself, and there is nothing to fear. I'm well guarded, Jason will handle this.

She heard the door open and a damp Courtney came in from passing out umbrellas to the guards outside and Robin chuckled.

What? The blonde asked seeing the amusement in her friends eyes. I don't want them to get wet. It's coming down in sheets out there.

It's just that it's exactly what I would do too Court. Robin reassured her. And Jason would laugh at me and say they were trained to stand in the rain, like the guards at Buckingham Palace.

Did it work?

Nope. I should have bought stock in Gust Buster because of all the spare umbrellas I ended up buying. Robin smiled.

Courtney plopped down rubbing her wet hair with a towel and sighed. It's nice to have you here. I missed you guys.

Me too. How's school? Figure out what you want to do yet?

Well...there is one thing and I'm good at it...but you might laugh. Courtney answered hesitantly.

Robin patted her hand reassuringly. If you love it, that's all that matters. So come on, fess up!

It isn't as glamorous as being a model or in the fashion industry like Brenda and it's not as important as being a Doctor...but-

Brenda burst through the kitchen door where she had been raiding the fridge and squealed while waiving the plate of something in her hand. Courtney where on earth did you get this Key Lime Pie? It's divine!

Um...I made it. It's my own recipe. She replied shyly.

No way! Robin you have to try this. And she shoved a forkful past her friends lips.

Robin chewed savoring each morsel. Courtney, she's right. It's absolutely fabulous.

Really? Came the response. Because that's what I want to do. I want to own my own restaurant and be a chef. Nothing fussy like those California Cuisine places where you get a microscopic piece of meat with a single baby carrot and pea pod and it still tastes like-

Shit? Robin and Brenda chorused together.

Exactly. Courtney laughed. I want it to be good, healthy, homestyle cooking. Favorites with my own twist

Well you've come a long way from chicken pot pie and chocolate chip cookies. Brenda teased and Courtney blushed.

He told you about that?

My husband didn't keep anything from me! Brenda laughed.

Robin looked confused. Did I miss something?

For my first date with Jason, I cooked him pot pie and chocolate chip cookies. I think I even served wine with it. Courtney's face was bright red and she hid her face in her hands.

You didn't? Robin asked trying hard not to giggle.

I know, I know. I've learned so much about food since then. I can't believe I did that.

Just don't do it again. Brenda whispered.

Hey! I'll have you know my new boyfriend loves my chocolate chip cookies...just not with cabernet sauvignon.

Boyfriend! Brenda pounced. Do tell!

His name is Zander Smith. He used to be involved with Emily and is a bit of a bad boy. But were taking it slow.

and... Robin coaxed. Where did you meet him?

At PCU. He's in my business management course. I dropped my books one day and he picked them up...and we've been hanging out ever since. Courtney smiled and laughed when she saw the worried look on Robin's face. It isn't like I'm going to marry him. We've both been burned and we're taking it slow. Heck, we haven't even slept together yet.

Robin's brow remained furrowed. She stood and walked to the window staring out into the dark, stormy night.

Robin, are you OK? Brenda asked concerned.

Yeah. She answered absently. It's just... She turned startled and faced them. Did you just hear that?

There was another booming roll of thunder and lightning, and the room went black.

Something felt wrong to Jason Morgan. He couldn't place it but every nerve ending in his body was tingling and his mind was screaming this was a trap. It had to be the storm. He hated rain storms. They reminded him of all the days and nights he'd spent without her...of all the time he'd wasted in petty anger listening to his so called best friend drone on and on about how Robin had ruined his life.

He sighed as Sonny's voice penetrated his thoughts.

We go in hard, fast. We take Lorenzo guards out and then go get him. His partner said.

Aiden rubbed his eyes. We cant just go in there guns blazing mate. He's highly trained and hell see what's happening before we even step foot on that ship.

Well what do you propose we do then? Sonny screamed clearly agitated. I will not let this madman kill my little sister.

Whoa, settle down. First, don't act like you are the only one who cares about my cousin, Mr. Corinthos. If I remember correctly, you abandoned her 5 years ago. Aiden snapped back. I know Zo best, I know how he thinks, how he acts when he's cornered. I know what moves he'll make and how to get on that ship without being seen. Follow my lead or stay here. That's the plan, take it or leave it.

Sonny glowered at him but stayed silent. Jason would have chuckled if it he hadn't felt so anxious. He knew Aiden was right and he also knew Sonny didn't like hearing it.

OK Aiden. He said. You lead, I'll back you up. Sonny stay here.

Hell no. Sonny replied. I'm going to get that son of a bitch if it kills me.

That's exactly why you are staying here. Jason answered him sternly. You haven't been out on a hit in years and you are angry. If you make a mistake...you could get us all killed. Michael needs you. And if there's trouble, I need you to get to Robin and Brenda and get them out of here.

Amazingly enough Sonny backed down and let the other 2 slip out of the car. He put his head in his hands and ran his hands through his hair, feeling lost, helpless.

Jason stood quiet, rain soaking his face and hair, listening intently. He could see the outline of Alcazars yacht looming in front of him, but it was impossible to make out anything else through the torrential downpour. Aiden moved forward to the dock where a dingy was waiting to take them to the bow of the ship where they would be able to board undetected. Both climbed in and began the journey to the ship.

He still felt uneasy and when Aiden looked at him, he knew Robin's cousin felt it too. Do you think it's a trap? He asked.

No, but something is off. I get the feeling we are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What is it? Jason responded.

Well for one thing, Stephanie hasn't been in contact with us for the past 15 minutes. It could just be the storm has knocked out transmission to her radio or the dock buildings were interfering...or it could be Aiden stopped and shook his head.

Jason blew the air out of his mouth. Do you think they got her? He asked concerned.

Look she's one of the best agents I've ever seen. She is all business when it comes to taking out the bad guy. But this..this time it's personal. One of the missions Zo sabotaged killed her partner, a rookie. Steph blames herself because she believes, and rightly so, that he meant for her to die. He was targeting our best and brightest so they wouldn't be coming after him.

Jason rubbed his hand across his eyes tiredly. The news kept getting worse for them it seemed. Can she handle this? We need her.

If anyone can, it's her. And she has your mate Johnny with her. From what I know, he's pretty damned good himself. Plus Zo is getting sloppy, he's taken unnecessary risks

As they bumped the ship, the CB in Aiden's pocket began to stutter with static. Aiden, come in Aiden. Came the slightly frantic voice on the other end.

He snatched it up and pressed the button. Devane here. Steph, what's going on? He demanded, his concern growing by the second.

We've got trouble!

Stephanie Anderson stood with her back against a wall, trying to calm the rapid beating of her heart. When she and Johnny O'Brien boarded 45 minutes earlier, she had been certain of meeting there objective. Now she wasn't so sure.

After they had rendezvoused with their insider, they moved toward their destination at slow, steady pace. Suddenly from somewhere inside the ship, shots rang out in quick succession. Bap, bap, bap. Then everything was still and quiet.

Fearing the guards had been tipped off, they moved with greater stealth, Patrick the insider leading the way. When he though the was was clear he turned a corner and was gunned down by one of Lorenzo's henchman.

Since then, Stephanie had taken out 3 other guards and Johnny had shot 2, but now they were in trouble and she knew it.

Her fiancé was sitting on the ground, his shirtsleeve wrapped around his left leg in a makeshift tourniquet to stop the bleeding from his thigh where he'd been hit with a bullet. They were in a full on shoot out and needed backup badly.

Baby, how're you doing. She asked kneeling down beside him, concern flooding her eyes.

Johnny chuckled weakly, Ive been through worse. He informed her.

Stephanie brushed her fingers across the stubble on his chin and pressed her forehead to his. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gotten you involved.

Stop it. He replied. Robin is my friend too. And I would never have let you come alone. You know that.

But Johnny, you got shot because of me.

No, I got hit because I was watching you and not keeping a lookout. He reassured her gently. You are amazing by the wayIf I live to be a thousand, Ill never have your instincts.

Well I'm getting you out of here alive if it's the last thing I do. She kissed him passionately and reached for the radio to call Aiden.

Damn it! Stephanie swore under her breath as nothing but crackling static greeted her plea. This storm is blocking me. Where the hell are they!

Hey, hey. Johnny admonished. Stay cool. They'll be here.

I've been trying for almost 30 minutes, since we heard those first shots. We need Aiden and Jason now. Anger flashed across her face for a split second before she composed herself.

Baby, Her fiancé assured her. It's OK. Try again.

She sighed and did as she was told. This time she was rewarded with Aiden's voice coming back to her.

We've got trouble!

Carly smiled sweetly at Lorenzo Alcazar from the doorway of his suite. So far it had been the most satisfying day of her life, her nemesis was dead and soon, very soon she would do something that would have her back in the good graces of Sonny and Jason where she belonged.

Hey Loey, it's time to celebrate. She told the man kneeling in the middle of the floor. She caressed the 9 millimeter she had tucked in her jeans at the small of her back almost lovingly and continued to grin maniacally.

Ding dong Robin's dead, Robin's dead, ding dong the evil Saint is dead. She whispered in a singsong voice.

Lorenzo stared at her not really seeing Carly, only a lunatic whose mind was almost completely gone. He smiled back at her and began to laugh.

What's so funny? She asked, surprised by his reaction.

You are. He told her. You and your pathetic life. You've spent years worrying about Robin Scorpio...letting your hatred for her eat you alive and poison everything you do. And the saddest, most ridiculous part is that deep down, you want to be her...to be loved by the people of this God forsaken town just like she is.

Carly stopped dead at his words, he mouth agape, stunned for once into silence.

What's the matter? Lorenzo taunted. Truth hurt a little too much?

SHUT UP! she shrieked at him losing all control. SHUT UP! How dare you speak to me that way. She pulled out the gun and aimed it at him.

He laughed again, it was a hollow, empty sound, somehow detached from the body on the floor. Go ahead! Shoot me. He said. My life is over anyway. You'll just be doing me a favor.

If you're trying to trick me it won't work. Carly hissed. Now that the Ice princess is dead, I'm going to kill you. Sonny and Jason will be so grateful to me, I'll be back where I belong.

Lorenzo snickered. If you believe that, you are more delusional than even I thought. You see, you are in this as deep as me. They know it and they're coming for you. He paused and as an afterthought added, Besides, we failed.

What did you say? She asked him.

Ms. Scorpio is alive and well. It seems I underestimated her survival skills.

NO! There is no way she escaped this time.

There was a knock at the door and Lorenzo's personal bodyguard entered the room. Carly quickly stepped behind the door so she was hidden from his view still holding her weapon aimed at the man in front of her. Sir, you wanted to know the minute we had information on the Scorpio woman?

Yes, I did. A small smile played on his lips and his eyes lit up.

Well, all indications are that she and her companions escaped the blast and have arrived here in Port Charles. She and Ms. Barrett are at that cottage on the edge of town with Corintho's sister.

Thank you Jake. That is good news indeed.

Do you require anything else this evening?

No, no...that will be all.

Carly's eyes grew wide with shock and anger. She trained the gun at the retreating guard and fired a single shot to the back of his head and giggled as he fell. Turning back to Lorenzo, she fired twice more, hitting him in the shoulder and stomach. Well, well, well. She grinned triumphantly. If you want something done, never ask a little boy to do a mans job. Goodbye Lorenzo. Have fun bleeding to death. And she slipped out of the room and off the yacht as quietly as a church mouse. She began to sing again as she climbed in her car and headed for Courtney's, Ding dong, the Saint is gone, the saint is gone...soon the saint will be gone away.
