Chapter 7

Ring, ring
Scott's phone rang and he picked it up looking at the caller ID. It was Malia.

"Hey, Malia. What's up? I'm sorry about earlier. Are you okay?"
"Scott, it's fine. I—"
"No, it's not okay. I'm the Alpha, I shouldn't be like that to you guys."
"Scott! Shut up! This is important!"
Scott clamped his mouth shut in surprise and Malia continued, "I found Liam. He—"
"Where is he, is he okay?…"
Questions rushed out of him too fast for Malia to answer them. If she had been there she would have slapped him.
She growled, "Scott, I'm trying to tell you, just shut up, I'm going to lose them."

Scott nodded, then realised Malia couldn't see him, "Okay, tell me."
"I'm in the woods, I heard Artemis and her brothers talking so I spied on them. They have Liam with them, I'm following them now, I don't know where they're going yet but I'll tell you when we get there. Follow my scent. Hurry!"

She hung up and Scott stood there with his phone to his ear for a bit longer before he shook himself out of his trance and immediately called Stiles and Lydia and filled them in. He was impatient as he waited for them to come to his house so they could follow Malia's scent and find their friend.

Malia was crouched behind a tree, she had been following Artemis and her brothers for the last fifteen minutes, they had finally reached a cabin in the middle of the woods, it wasn't even in a clearing, there were trees growing right up against the building and even one growing out of the chimney. She shook her head at the absurdity, this place was really old and definitely abandoned. She had been through these woods hundreds of times, how did they know about it and she didn't?

She watched as the trio went behind the building, taking Liam with them. Staying hidden, she went around and caught a glimpse of them going down stairs to what most likely was the basement. The last thing she saw was Liam look at her with that same pleading look that he'd had earlier. She gave him a reassuring smile and a thumbs up, knowing it was stupid but it seemed to help him a little bit. She waited for a few minutes before seeing Artemis, Matthew, and Marcus coming back up the stairs. They closed the hatch style doors behind them, securing them with a padlock. Malia waited for them to go inside the house before creeping up to the door to inspect it closer.

She held the padlock in her hand, ready to pull it off, when she heard a sound behind her. She froze but the sound continued, someone was walking towards her. Three someones. She ready herself to pounce, she didn't care if they outnumbered her, she was going to get Liam away from this crazy wolf bitch, nothing could stop her.

She turned around and jumped, tackling one of the other people to the ground. She was about to start punching them but realised she was wrong,
"Stiles?" She asked in surprise.
Looking up at her, with a slightly frightened but still smiling face, was her boyfriend.
"Hey, Malia. How's your walk? I see you've calmed down."

She stood up and helped pull Stiles to his feet.
"Sorry, I thought you were Artemis and her hench-brothers."
"Nope, just regular old, weak, me."
She kissed him, "But I like 'regular old, weak, you."
"Guys," Scott interrupted, "Liam?"
"Oh, right," Malia said, "he's in there."
She pointed and they all turned to look at the basement doors.

"Okay," Scott walked over and pulled the padlock off with ease, "Let's go."
Lydia stood guard by the doors and the rest of the group crept down the dark staircase in near silence. When Scott reached the bottom, he was suddenly tackled and thrown to the side. Someone grabbed Stiles by the shirt and pulled him into the pitch blackness where he landed with a thud. Malia was ready when the attack came and able to get the upper hand on the assailant. She pinned them to ground, she had expected to see Artemis or one of her brothers but gasped when she saw who it really was.
