A/N Happily Ever After by He Is We is this chapter's song title. I chose this song because it talks a lot about not knowing how things are going to end which I feel is a large portion of how Elyssa and Solas feel in this chapter. They don't know the results but they both want a happy ending regardless of what the results are. I thank everyone who continues to read and support this story. I know I don't update regularly but I am trying. Be patient, I will do my best to not only finish this story by the end of the year but also make it the best possible story I can. As always, read, review, and enjoy!

After the joys of Christmas, New Year seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye. Elyssa had her first session with Dr. Cole, who though a little odd, was already proving to be a big help. She loved participating in the burning the Adaars did every year. It was so freeing to let go of her past by burning that dreaded painting and her journal. Standing there with her family and Solas, everyone burning things they wanted to let go of, she had finally felt like she was starting anew. But even the euphoria she found in the release of her chains came to an end as the day approached that they would finally be able to find out who had fathered her child.

Elyssa took a deep breath, her feet carrying her back and forth across the linoleum floor. "What if it's his?" she panicked. Salem pulled her into a chair, rubbing her shoulders soothingly.

"Elyssa this child can never be his if you don't let it be," she answered, "It will always be yours."

Elyssa's heart thundered so loud she barely heard Salem's wise words. She wiped her palms on her jeans, though it did little to help with the perspiration. She bounced her feet on her toes, unable to keep still even while sitting. "What if it's not his," she whispered.

"Then there will be another elf running around my house," the horned woman answered. She gently squeezed Elyssa's shoulders, a gesture of comfort Elyssa appreciated. Still, her panic refused to subside. She needed to know whose child she was carrying. Whose child she had chosen to care for and love. She had made her mind up, no matter whose it was she was going to love it, but that didn't stop this from being any less terrifying.

"Where is Solas?" Elyssa huffed out frantically, "what if he decided not to come. Oh, Creators, I don't think I'm ready for this."

"Elyssa," Salem sighed, "Solas will absolutely be here, especially if he knows what's good for his balls." Elyssa couldn't help but chuckle at Salem's nonchalant threat. As if talking about him summoned him like magic, she saw Solas hastily walking down the hall of the clinic. His eyes searched around the hall then settled on her. He marched to her with long quick strides, the way his brows and mouth furrowed letting her know she was not alone in her worry and panic. He took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. The pain in her chest fading just enough so she could breathe comfortably.

"Ah, Solas, right on time," Leliana's pleasantly nasal voice said from the now open door of the room Elyssa and Salem had been waiting outside. Leliana turned to Elyssa. "Are you ready?"

"Not really," Elyssa halfway chuckled, "but it's now or never I suppose." Leliana smiled sympathetically, letting them all into the room. Solas said little, but his solid grip in Elyssa's hand spoke volumes. She went to sit on the exam bed in the middle of the room, Solas standing next to her, Salem in one of the chairs that lined the wall.

"You are familiar with the process, yes?" Leliana asked Elyssa and Solas. Both elves nodded their heads. They had done their research. "Excellent," she nodded, "let's get started." Leliana moved quickly and cleanly, getting the samples she needed from Solas and Elyssa. Of course, getting the samples was the easy part. The hard part was what came next… waiting.

It had been five days. five painstakingly long days since the samples had been collected. Elyssa had barely been able to pay attention in school. Thankfully no one had bothered her about her extended absence at the end of last semester, the perks of being a wallflower. It was one of the few things Elyssa was grateful for while she waited for the nerve-wracking news to come. The call from Leliana during lunch didn't come soon enough.

"H-hello?" she answered.

"Elyssa?" Leliana spoke from the other line.

"Yes." Elyssa swallowed the lump that had suddenly formed in her throat.

"I have the results of the paternity test," Leliana spoke calmly, her voice revealing nothing. "You can pick them up whenever you'd like."

"I'll be there as soon as school is finished," Elyssa squeezed out between hard breaths. Salem tilted her head curiously as Elyssa hung up the phone. "Leliana," Elyssa answered simply. Salem nodded, understanding all Elyssa was telling her in the one simple word. Elyssa stared down at the food on her tray, the gooey melted cheese of the pizza no longer looking appealing. The rest of the school day and drive to the clinic happened in a blur, the only coherent thought going through Elyssa's mind was that she was finally going to know. One way or another she was finally going to find out whose child it was she carried.

Leliana was waiting for her in her office, a kind smile welcoming her into the cozy room. "I could tell you now, but I suspect you would rather wait until you're not alone for the answer," she handed her a sealed manila envelope. The envelope seemed to weigh a ton though it was thin in size. Elyssa couldn't bring herself to open it, not by herself. Leliana was right in her assumption that she didn't want to be alone.

"Thank you," Elyssa said with gratitude, "I really appreciate your discretion with the whole situation."

Leliana nodded in understanding. "I have already seen that you've been through more than enough for someone your age," she explained, "I have no desire to see you go through more because of who you've chosen to love."

"Again, thank you," Elyssa said, "I'm glad you trusted Salem enough to give me a chance."

"Salem is quite persuasive, no," Leliana chuckled, "are there any more questions for me?"

Elyssa took a brief look at her arms, covered by the long sleeves of her jacket. "Yes, actually," she said, "what would be your opinion of me getting tattoos on my arms while I'm pregnant. Salem assures me the artist is reputable and very thorough with his sterilization process but I wanted a doctor's opinion before I decided."

"If the artist is as thorough with his cleaning as you say I should see little reason why it would be an issue. As long as you are aware there are risks involved with such a process even with proper sterilization. I trust that you will come see me should something go amidst," Leliana answered.

"Of course," Elyssa assured her.

"Excellent," Leliana beamed, "if that's all, I will see you on the 13th."

Elyssa nodded, she had the answers she needed, now it was time to open them. She drove to the only person she could think of being with right now. The only one she wanted to be there with her to find out this news that would change her life one way or the other. He was waiting on the front porch, an untouched glass of water sitting on the table beside him. "Vhenan," Solas greeted, "you have the results?" Elyssa nodded her head, swallowing hard.

"Solas," Elyssa's whisper captured his full attention, "will you open it?" He looked down at the shaking girl beside him, his heart squeezing in his chest for her. How he wished she didn't have to go through this kind of worry. How he wished he hadn't caused it. If only he hadn't pushed her away so quickly, maybe then she never would have been in that awful place that night.

"It will be okay," he promised her, "no matter what the result is." Elyssa's arms wound around him tightly, her face burrowed into his chest. He returned the embrace in earnest. "It will not change how I feel about you," he assured her, "but I will read the results if you so wish." She nodded her head, pulling away to hand him the envelope. He opened the package that held the weight of the world with care. Skimming over the medical terms and analysis to find the results towards the middle of the paper. His heart beat rapidly as he read the writing there. He blinked away the moisture that gathered in his eyes. Instead he pulled Elyssa into his arms once more, cradling her head against his frantically pounding heart. Only when she was nestled safely and comfortably against him did he let the tears flow from his eyes and the smile widened across his face.

"Tell me, Solas," Elyssa demanded in a breathy whisper, "it's his isn't it."

Slowly, as if in a daze, he shook his head. "No, ma lath," he answered happily.

"You mean it?" She asked with breathy hope, "it's yours?"

Solas captured her lips in a joyous kiss, leaning his forehead on hers lightly when his heart could take on more. He held her face between his hands, his thumbs gently stroking the small area they could teach on her cheeks. "It's ours," he murmured gleefully.
