Aether lay in bed, still aching from his fall yet feeling surprisingly comfortable. The Butterfly Mansion's herbal scents filled the air, a soothing blend of calming aromas that eased his tension and quieted his mind. His conversation with Shinobu Kocho and the stern Giyu Tomioka had been enlightening, even if a little unsettling. This world was unlike anything he had encountered before, its dangers more immediate and visceral, with demons that hunted and destroyed humanity. Yet, his presence here remained a mystery, even to him.

Shinobu had questioned him thoroughly, her sharp, assessing gaze never wavering as he explained his background, his travels through worlds, and his accidental arrival here. Though skeptical, she had ultimately seemed to believe him, if only because the strangeness of his appearance matched the mystery of his sudden descent from the sky. Giyu had simply observed in silence, his gaze inscrutable. Aether could tell the man was wary, though not openly hostile. It would take time to earn his trust.

For now, however, he was left alone to rest and recover.

As Aether lay back, his thoughts drifted to Lumine, to the peaceful farewell they had shared before he crossed worlds. The memory of her face, resolute and radiant, brought a pang of longing, but he quickly pushed it aside. Here, in this new world, he had to focus on survival, on learning the ways of this land and its people.

Just then, the door slid open quietly, pulling Aether from his thoughts. He turned his head to see two women entering, each carrying an air of elegance and strength. The first woman was petite with strikingly soft, delicate features. Her violet eyes sparkled with curiosity, yet her movements were measured and calm, almost as if each step was calculated. This was Kanao Tsuyuri, whom Shinobu had briefly mentioned as one of her skilled protégés. Kanao moved silently, her face tinged with a faint blush as her eyes glanced over Aether's form before quickly darting away.

The second woman, however, commanded his full attention. Tall and radiant, she had an unmistakable air of grace and confidence. Her long, dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her smile was warm, almost playful. She wore the same butterfly emblem as Shinobu, marking her as a member of the mansion, yet there was a maturity and allure about her that set her apart. Aether's gaze lingered for a moment longer than intended, and the woman's smile only deepened in response.

"Oh, you must be Aether,"she said, her voice as smooth as silk, carrying a hint of laughter. "I've heard about you from Shinobu. My name is Kanae Kocho, and this is Kanao Tsuyuri."

Aether nodded, attempting to sit up a bit straighter, though his body protested. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kanae. And you as well, Kanao."

Kanao gave a shy nod, her cheeks flushing pink as she looked down, clearly a bit overwhelmed by the sight of him. Kanae, on the other hand, approached his bedside without hesitation, her eyes dancing with an unreadable glint.

"So, a traveler from another world… That's quite the story,"she said, her gaze openly assessing him. "I can see why Shinobu was so intrigued."

Aether chuckled, feeling a slight warmth creep up his neck under her scrutiny. "It sounds unbelievable, I know, but—"

"Oh, I believe you,"Kanae interrupted, her tone teasing as she leaned forward, inspecting his bandaged chest. "Someone as unique as you couldn't be from here, after all."

Her eyes flicked to the fresh wrappings around his torso, her fingertips reaching out to gently trace the edge of a bandage. Her touch was light, almost a whisper against his skin, yet it sent an electric jolt through him. She examined the muscles beneath his bandages, her fingers brushing against his abdomen with a feather-like touch that seemed both innocent and deliberate.

"You've been through a lot, haven't you?"Kanae murmured, her voice softer now as her fingertips traced a careful line down his torso, just above his waist. She paused, her gaze meeting his with an intensity that made his breath catch. Her fingers moved in slow, sensual circles, drawing near his lower abdomen, teasing without crossing the boundary, but close enough to leave an undeniable heat in her wake.

Aether found himself unable to look away, his heartbeat quickening under her touch, his body instinctively reacting to the attention. Kanae's smile grew, as though she could feel his reaction, and her gaze softened, as if daring him to respond.

Kanao, who had been watching in silence, seemed entranced by the scene unfolding before her. Her face was bright red, her hands fidgeting as her gaze flicked between Kanae's bold touches and Aether's expression. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but no words came. Instead, she took a step closer, almost as if drawn in by an unseen force.

Noticing her younger sister's reaction, Kanae gave a small, knowing smile. "Kanao, come here,"she beckoned softly, patting the edge of the bed.

Kanao hesitated, her blush deepening, but she slowly moved closer, taking a seat at Aether's bedside. Her gaze darted between Aether's eyes and Kanae's fingers, which still traced languid circles over his bandaged abdomen, brushing his skin with a deliberate slowness that sent his mind reeling.

"Kanao, you shouldn't be so shy,"Kanae chided gently, her voice laced with amusement. "Aether here is our guest, after all. It's only polite to make him feel… comfortable."

Kanao's breath hitched as Kanae's words sank in, her face flushed a deep scarlet. She bit her lip, looking down at her hands before tentatively reaching out to rest her fingers lightly on Aether's forearm. Her touch was hesitant, almost trembling, as if she were unsure of how to proceed. But as Aether's gaze met hers, he gave a small, reassuring nod, silently encouraging her.

Taking a steadying breath, Kanao allowed her fingers to linger on his arm, her touch growing slightly bolder as she traced along the defined muscles beneath her fingertips. Her shyness slowly melted away, replaced by a growing curiosity, and she found herself glancing up at Aether, her cheeks still flushed but her gaze holding a newfound confidence.

Kanae watched with a satisfied smile, her fingers still circling near Aether's lower abdomen, inching just above his waist in teasing patterns. Her hand lingered dangerously close to his hips, her eyes filled with mischief as she held his gaze.

Aether felt his body tense in response, his own fingers curling slightly as he restrained the urge to reciprocate more openly. The unspoken tension in the room grew thick, an energy passing between the three of them as Kanae's flirtation grew bolder and Kanao's shyness slowly faded.

But before the atmosphere could shift any further, the door slid open abruptly, and Shinobu stepped in, her expression unreadable as her sharp eyes took in the scene before her.

"Aether, how are you feeling?"she asked, her voice level, though a slight glint of amusement flickered in her gaze.

Kanae and Kanao immediately pulled back, their expressions innocent yet betraying a hint of guilt. Kanae's hand slid gracefully from Aether's abdomen, her smile turning demure, as if nothing out of the ordinary had transpired. Kanao quickly withdrew her hand from Aether's arm, her face flushing once more as she looked down, trying to stifle her embarrassment.

"I… I'm feeling much better, thank you, Shinobu,"Aether replied, struggling to keep his own composure.

Shinobu's eyes narrowed slightly, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of her lips as she glanced at her sister and Kanao. "I see my guests are making themselves… quite at home,"she commented lightly, the hint of mischief in her voice unmistakable.

Kanae met her gaze with an innocent smile, folding her hands gracefully in her lap. "We were just checking on our guest, making sure he felt welcomed."

Shinobu raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. But instead of pressing further, she simply gave a small shrug and turned back to Aether, her tone shifting to one of genuine concern. "I just came to let you know that you'll need more rest, Aether. Your wounds might seem minor now, but it's best to take care. After all, we wouldn't want our visitor from another world to strain himself, would we?"

Aether nodded, sensing the subtle, unspoken warning in her words. "Understood. I'll be careful."

Shinobu nodded, casting one last look at her sister and Kanao before stepping back toward the door."Kanae, Kanao, we have some tasks to tend to in the garden. I trust Aether can manage his rest on his own for now."

Kanae gave an exaggerated sigh but nodded, gracefully standing up. She shot Aether a quick, playful smile before turning to follow Shinobu. Kanao stood as well, casting one last, shy glance back at Aether before hurrying after the two sisters, her cheeks still tinged pink.

As the door closed behind them, Aether lay back, letting out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. The tension in the room lingered even after they left, his mind still reeling from the unexpected encounter. Yet, despite the confusion, a small smile tugged at his lips.

The world he had stumbled into was

filled with far more than just demons and danger. There were moments of light and connection, however fleeting. And as he lay back, his mind began to drift, already wondering what tomorrow in this strange, beautiful world might bring.
