The reuniting of friends
Humphreys POV:
It has been two weeks since all the pups were adopted and since it's just been Bella, and me, which is nice because it means we've gotten to know each other a lot better. It's been pretty good and to make things better her wounds have finally healed which means she can go out into the world again. I knew she couldn't wait to finally get out of the den because after I told her I thought she would never stop bouncing around in excitement which made me laugh at seeing how much energy my little girl has in her from being stuck in the den so long.
It was now morning and I felt the warmth of the sun enter the den as it slowly stroked my fur. I slowly opened my eyes before craning my neck up with a yawn. I then proceeded to look down at Bella and had to hold back my cooing, as she looked so adorable. She was lying right next to me, her head resting against my stomach, her body on the mattress and her tiny little paws was her stuffed bear. To be honest it was the most adorable thing I had ever seen. I of course knew this wasn't going to last much longer because I had to wake her up so we could have breakfast. I gently lowered my muzzle down and nudged her while saying. "Bella it's time to get up sweetie." She slowly lifted up her head and let out the cutest little yawn. I smiled down at her and said. "Good morning sweetie pie." She smiled up at me and said. "Good morning Daddy." I then asked. "Want some caribou for breakfast?" She then said. "Yay caribou!" and ran out of the room into the main area of the den. I chuckled at her enthusiasm before putting on my hat, grabbing my knife and strapping it to my hind leg before following her.
Once I saw she was sitting in the dens entrance room on the rug I walked into the food storage room and bought out a dead caribou I hunted down yesterday. I put it down gently on the ground and we began to eat. We ate for five minutes before we were done. I then took the leftovers into the food storage room. I then came out and said. "Well today is the first day you get to go out of the den for a long time now what do you say we get going." She began jumping around while chanting yes. I smiled at her before we began walking out the den. Once we were down the slope leading to the den Bella asked me a question that I was not prepared for as she asked. "Daddy why did you kill those meanies two weeks ago?" To say I was shocked is an understatement so I responded with a question by asking. "Now why the sudden question like that sweetie?" She just replied by saying. "It's just something that I've been wondering for some time." I sighed and said. "I will tell you when we get to the clearing." She nodded and we continued on our way.
We reached the clearing and sat down so we could talk. I looked at Bella and sighed before saying. "When I was about your age I was with another pack. In this pack my parents were the pack leaders so I was to be the next leader. One day I was out in a field training on my own when some wolves that weren't from my pack just grabbed me and took me away. These wolves took me to a den out of my packs territory and to a cave with other pups and treated us like slaves like the way you were treated. After three months of the torment before I decided to run away and attempted it when the adults were distracted but one of the adults got in the way so when he picked me up I scratched him across the face over his right eye leaving it blind. I then ran as fast as I could and was lucky to get away. I wondered for a week with no food or water before I just collapsed out of hunger and exhaustion. When I came to I was in a den with two adult wolves. Those wolves were Winston and Eve. Them along with Kate and Lilly nursed me back to health and sent the pack after the pupnappers but fait favored them as they escaped with all the pups. I spent the rest with the western pack as an omega because I was to weak to go to Alpha school and haven't seen my parents since. When I saw the wolf who was trying to kill you I knew he was the man I gave the blind eye to and then my blood just began to boil and I let my anger flow out because I wanted those men to pay the price for all lives they had ruined. That's pretty much it sweetie." I saw that she was beginning to have tears swelling up in her eyes. Before I could ask what was wrong she ran up to me and hugged my waste. I knew that she did this because she realized that we both had a lot more in common then we thought. After we were done hugging I picked Bella up and began to take her back to the den because I doubt either of us were in a playful mood now. We spent the rest of our day inside the den just listening to the radio, reading books etc.
We were now sitting outside the den while watching the sunset together. It was times like these I felt at peace and happy with the world. Then Bella asked. "Daddy what do you miss most about being with your old pack?" I sighed and said. "Well I would have to go with snuggling up with my parents at night, playing with my best friend tuck and my moms goodnight kisses." I let out another sigh and said. "Well it's best not to dwell on the past so I just move on with my life and that's how I enjoy each day." Bella smiled up at me before snuggling up to me and falling asleep. I then gently picked her up and took her to bed before joining her in the sweet embrace of slumber.
One week later
Morning came too soon for me as I was out late last night with the guys but once I wake up I have a hard time falling back to sleep so I figured I would get a start on my day. I decided to start with a quick trip down to the stream for a drink so I got my hat and knife before heading out. Fortunately Bella slepped over at friends last night so I wouldn't have to worry about her. On the way to the stream I thought about how good my life has been. I have an awesome den, cool stuff, great friends and a sweet little daughter. Frankly I don't know how life could have gotten any better for me.
I reached the river and dipped my head in to fully shock myself awake. Once my head rose up from the water I caught the scent of a wolf that isn't from our pack but it was somehow familiar in a way. Nevertheless I knew I had to find out who was there so I slowly followed the scent through the bushes. I soon arrived at a clearing that was completely empty. I slowly entered the clearing keeping my eyes peeled for the owner of the scent. I looked around but saw nobody until I heard a stick snap from behind me. I decided to pretend not to hear it and give the person sneaking up on me a false sense of an advantage before I turned the tables on him. I sat down ready to be attacked so I could pin the intruder. I didn't have to wait long as I heard the intruder getting ready to pounce. Just as I heard him leap up I quickly moved to the side and just as he landed on the ground I pinned him to the ground on his back and held my knife to his throat while saying. "Who are you and why are you here." He just said in a terrified voice. "Please don't kill me. I was just looking for some food. Please don't kill me." My eyes widened hearing that voice as I now remembered where I had smelt that scent before. I slowly removed my knife and slowly climbed off him and backed up a little before asking in a confused yet hopeful voice. "Decca?" He looked at me and asked. "How do you know my name?" I smiled and said. "Oh now don't tell me you don't remember your old pal after all the time we spent playing together as pups and how are things with Angela going." His eyes widened in shock and amazement before he asked. "Humphrey?" I replied by saying. "Oh give the man a medal he figured it out." We both laughed before Decca asked. "Dude you've been missing for years no we all thought you were dead. Oh man your parents are going to have heart attacks when they see you again." I then asked in a concerned voice. "How have they been since I disappeared?" Decca frowned before saying. "Well after you disappeared your parents wouldn't stop searching for you for two years but by then the pack was able to make them realize they had to let you go but they never have had another pup in fear of driving it away like they did you." I gave him a confused look before asking. "Why would they think they drove me off?" Decca replied. "They said it was because they pushed you too much." I laughed as the memories of how they always pushed to try harder but I always enjoyed it. I then said. "Oh the good old days. Where are they now I need to set things straighten things out with them." Decca nodded before saying. "Follow me man." I then followed him and I had a feeling that when we got to our location I would have a lot of explaining to do.
