The dinner
Humphreys POV:
It was nightfall and I just finished cleaning my fur since mom wanted me to look my best for the dinner. I was not looking forward to it one bit since it means I'll have to be near Kate again and if I'm really unlucky that punk Garth and that's the last thing I want especially if they try to talk to me. I heard footsteps approaching my den and turned to see my dad as he asked. "You ready yet son?" I sighed and replied. "Yeah I'm ready." He looked at me confused before asking. "Something wrong?" I replied. "No just not looking forward to this dinner!" He tilted his head and asked. "Why not you got something against Winston and Eve?" I replied. "Not them but their daughter Kate." He sighed in understanding and said. "Troubles with this girl are still confusing you I see! Son like I said before you must learn to forgive her so this doesn't cause and become an obstacle for you in the future!" I replied while trying to avoid this conversation going further. "Sorry dad but it's just not that easy for me to forgive her!" He smiled and answered. "These things never are easy my boy they never are." I sighed knowing there was no avoiding this conversation going shorter and figured that at least I left Bella with her grandmother. We began our walk as we talked to each other about why I wasn't finding it easy forgiving or seeing Kate even though I promised to talk to her.
When we arrived at the den I finished off the talk with him as dad sighed and said. "Sheesh sounds like this girl really messed you up but the only advice I can give you is to try give her another chance." I sighed and said. "Yeah but I don't want to give her another chance after what she did!" He sighed and said. "Son you can't stay mad at her forever because I highly doubt she'll ever stop since girls like her are insanely determined and stubborn. Take it from me since I've been married to one for years now." We chuckled at this before we walked into the den where everyone was waiting for us. It was then Bella ran up to me screaming. "Daddy!" I chuckled and nuzzled her as I said. "Hey princess how has your day with grandma been?" She answered. "It was fun daddy! I had a great day." I smiled and said. "That's wonderful now why don't you go play on the other side of the den while the grownups talk?" She smiled and said. "Okay!" She then ran off to the other side of the den to play. I chuckled at her before Winston came up and said. "Welcome all." I nodded to him before we all sat around and talked but I mostly kept quiet not in the talkative mood being around Kate and I'm pretty sure she knew this since I kept looking at her with annoyance!
It was five minutes after we started talking Eve said. "Kate why don't you say something dear is something wrong?" She sighed and said. "Nothing mom just surprised we could all be here together." Her parents and mine chuckled as Eve said. "So am I sweetie. After their pack moved away I didn't think we'd see each other again and now here we are talking like old times!" Mom chuckled and said. "I couldn't agree with you more Eve." Eve then turned to me with one of her famous smiles which makes you feel as though you're going to die soon before she asked. "Humphrey I've been meaning to ask how did it feel to kill those wolves?" Everyone stopped talking and turned to Eve before she said. "What? I'm just curious!" I sighed and said. "It's alright everyone and to answer your question Eve the first time it's scary you just don't know what to do knowing you've taken the life of another but it gets easier as you do it as if you learn to leave your body while you do it so you don't feel anything knowing you've once again taken the life of another." They all stared at me in disbelief before Eve said. "Okay then why don't we start dinner it's caribou!" The rest of dinner was done in uncomfortable silence which I'm glad Bella didn't notice since she was too young to notice or understand it. Once dinner was done I saw Bella was getting sleepy so I decided it was time for me and her to head home so we said our goodbyes before I took Bella by the scruff of her neck and left.
Back in the Den
Nobodies POV:
After Humphrey left everybody let out a sigh before Eve said. "Well that was interesting!" Anna replied. "He's confused about the way he feels about what he's done! A mother can tell these things!" Jake (AN: Humphreys father) looked down at the ground and said. "Agreed. I saw the look he had in his eyes. It's the look of one who doesn't know what to do." Winston then said. "It's never easy dealing with so much at once like your old pack moving in to your territory, raising a child, taking the lives of other wolves and all taking place in such a short amount of time!" Jake replied. "He already had something going on before my pack even arrived and before he killed those wolves." Everyone looked at him confused before Winston asked. "What do you mean?" Jake replied. "We've been talking and it has shown me that he has emotional wounds that have been cut deep before he came to Sawtooth!" Anna then asked. "Well what do we do then love?" Jake sighed as he shook his head saying. "Nothing we can do hon! The only person who can heal the wounds done to Humphrey is her!" As Jake pointed to Kate before everyone turned to look at her confused as Kate asked. "Why me?" Jake replied. "You're the one who did the damage so you're the only one who can make things right with Humphrey!" Kate looked down in sadness and said. "But how do I do that when he wants nothing to do with me and goes out of his way to avoid me?" Jake simply replied. "Because you're trying to get his affection before you repair the damage you've done. If you want to make things right let him know how sorry you truly are from the bottom of your heart and remind him of the good times you and him have shared in the past. Only when you have repaired the bridge of your friendship with him will he be able to rekindle the flames of his love for you." Everyone looked at him in surprise before Anna asked. "You've been sneaking up to human cabins and watching those human soap operas, again haven't you?" Jake shrugged and said. "They give good advice hon and besides they gave me the advice to be able to marry the most beautiful alpha I've ever met!" She giggled and said. "Oh you flatterer you!" before nuzzling him before Jake turned his attention back to Kate and said. "Anyway, first apologize and show Humphrey how truly sorry you are, then remind him of the good times you two have had together and only then will you be able to repair the damage you've done!" She nodded before Anna and Jake bid everyone a goodnight and retired to their own den for the evening.
Kates POV:
Anna and Jake just left when dad said. "Jake made some good points Kate! You've been trying to earn Humphreys affection before earning his forgiveness." I looked down in shame and said. "I never really thought about it. I thought if I apologized everything would be back to normal." Mom then said. "Things aren't always that easy sweetheart. Just try taking Jakes advice and you might stand a chance of getting back Humphreys affection." I sighed and said. "I guess it couldn't hurt to try. Not like Humphreys feelings towards me could get any more negative!" My parents comforted me after that for a few minutes before I went back to my own den to get some sleep for tomorrow.
AN: Hey guys sorry for the long wait but I have had a ton of problems! First I had writers block, then my computer got a virus costing me all my data and stopping me from writing, then I couldn't load anything above 200 words into my doc manager, then the chapters file got corrupted. So you see why it took so long because I still have writers block and was barely able to push this new chapter out so please be nice.
