Time to get away

Humphreys POV:

It's been three days since my near-death experience thanks to Angela and although not that much time has passed quite a few events have happened with my favorite out of all these things being Angela leaving me alone. The reason for this is she got herself stuck at the front of a large caribou stampede and was rescued by none other than Decca who as a pup had a huge crush on her. Because of this she'd begun looking at him in a new light and had given him the long-desired chance that he'd wanted since he was a pup and as expected, they were an official couple in two days. I was happy about this for two reasons and they were, Angela wouldn't be bothering me anymore since she now had someone and two Decca got the girl of his dreams and as a friend I could not help but be happy for him. I could already see a bright future for the both of them since it was clear as day they were made for each other and I'd say by the next season they'd be marrying.

Along with that I am sad to say heat has arrived for the pack being led by Winston and Eve and that means I had to spend my days, constantly moving around stealthily to avoid the females of the pack. The problem with this is it takes me an hour to get a drink from the pond that is only three minutes away from my den and even when I arrive I have to keep my eyes peeled for females who knew it was where I get a drink. Heck I couldn't even lay down in my own den for a nap without keeping my guard up since some females have used it as an opportunity to try and seduce me by either coming in while I'm sleeping so they could snuggle up to me or be waiting for me after filling my den with their scents. This of course would make resisting them a whole lot more difficult but fortunately, most of the time I had Bella with me so it gave my will a bit more strength since I didn't want my daughter finding out about this stuff until she's my mom's age.

Of course, I had other problems in the form of Bella asking me multiple questions about what was going on around with the multiple sounds and strange smells that were floating around. The sounds were happy couples enjoying the season while the smells were the scents of females who have gone into heat and were giving off the scent to attract the males. As for the girls who'd yet to get a mate, they fell into two categories and they were girls who were willing to be a little subtler and seduce the males they desired while using the scent to lure them in. Then there's the second category that had females who were willing to do anything to get rid of their heat and were willing to actually jump a male to get rid of their heat. Now every single male in the pack was being perused by at least one female who fell into each category but I didn't have it that easy as over half of the single females were after me and the majority fell into the second category.

This situation brings me to now, with me running as fast as I could down a valley to escape three females who fell into the second category and had their eyes on me. I jumped onto a log to get some height and jumped again and used my muzzle to grab onto a branch that was sticking out of the wall and used it to swing onto the upper edge before taking a breath as I looked down to see the girls looking up at me in disappointment. When I saw they were calm I took a breath and looked around as I smiled, seeing nobody was around and chuckled before I said.

"I am so glad I left Bella with the guys since if I had her escaping those girls would be a lot more difficult."It was then a voice said.

"Those were some pretty impressive moves." I turned to see none other than Kate and at first, I thought it was just her being friendly until I caught her scent and knew she was in heat as well so I got my guard up.

"What are you doing here Kate?"

"I was just taking a walk and saw you pull of that stunt to avoid those heat crazed females." I shrugged.

"Live on your own long enough and you pick up a few things but perhaps you should tell me why I shouldn't be using my skills to escape you since I can smell that you're in heat to." She smiled.

"Yeah, I am but unlike those girls, I know how to handle my heat so you don't have to worry." I still looked uneasy before I began backing away.

"Still, I think it best I get away from you for now." I began walking away but she quickly cut me off.

"Come on Humphrey, just because I've gone into heat it doesn't mean we can't just enjoy spending time together." She gently rubbed her tail under my muzzle giving me a full blast of her heated scent and I knew right then and there I had to get out of there before her heat got to me.

"Sorry Kate, but if I enjoyed the kind of time with you that you're thinking of then your mother would skin me alive and I like my skin on."

I then tried to leave but it was then she went from the first category to the second and tried to jump me from behind so she could no doubt try to have her way with me. Fortunately, I saw her shadow and quickly ducked to avoid her attack before I stood back up and looked at her to see her smiling as she said.

"You're fast Humphrey, but let's hope you're not as fast when it comes to ending my kind of fun."

"Sorry Kate, but I'm not into doing that kind of fun while you're in this state since your mother would prefer it if we were married before we have that kind of fun." She smiled.

"Are you saying that you're willing to marry me in the future."

"I am not saying that but right now what I'm saying is goodbye." As soon as I said that I ran with Kate hot on my heels and knew she was not going to be easy to escape since she was the most skilled female in both packs. "I really cannot wait for heat season to be over in this park but until then, perhaps I better get out of Sawtooth with Bella for a little while." I ducked to the ground as I made a quick turn while dodging another pounce from Kate. "Yeah, maybe a little father daughter bonding trip away from all this craziness." I jumped against a tree to get a little distance to avoid Kate who lunged at me. "Perhaps a trip to the water falls on the other side of the park is an order." I then looked behind me to see Kate charging towards me. "But first, I better shake the heat crazed females of the packs." With that said I began running again.

AN: Hey guys, it's been a long time and first I'd like to apologies for the long delay in posting a new chapter for this story and all my A&O stories. I only meant for it to be a few weeks but before I realized it, it'd been years but the ideas for these stories don't come as easily to me as they used to. Anyway, as you can all see I've been working on my writing style so hopefully the future chapters will be easier for you all to read and if you have any thoughts for future chapters then please let me know as they might help update faster. From now on though I will try to update at least one chapter a week until this story is complete so please don't hold the long wait for a new chapter against me.
