Chapter 1
Months had seemed to trickle by for Steve. He had asked Kimberly to find a place where he could go in the middle of the night when he couldn't sleep. He was thankful that the young woman was able to find a place so easily. The man who owned the gym was nice enough and allowed him to come in to let out some of his stress.
Kimberly entered the gym seeing Steve punching a punching bag. "I knew I would find you here." She said taking a seat on the bench and watching Steve pounding away at the punching bag.
Steve's eyes slid over to the young woman who was watching him. "You're the one that found the place." He pointed out as he grunted slightly punching the bag once again. "You were kind enough to me to find this place. And I'm thankful for that."
Kimberly took a soft breath as she watched him. "The memories are still strong aren't they?"
Steve remained silent for a moment his punches slowly getting stronger as he continued to work over the punching bag.
Kimberly shook her head lightly knowing that the memories were plaguing him terribly. She hated the fact that she couldn't help him with them. She turned her head seeing her boss there. She got up to her feet. "Sir?" She heard the chain snapping and the bag hitting the ground from one final hard punch.
Nick moved forward watching Steve pick up another bag. "Trouble sleeping?"
Steve looked up seeing Nick there. "I slept for seventy years, sir. I think I've had my fill." He said putting the bag up and beginning to punch it once again.
"Then you should be out, celebrating, seeing the world."
Steve suddenly stopped punching the bag and walked over to the bench. He took the tape off of his hands slowly before sitting down on the bench that Kimberly once sat on. "I went under, the world was at war. I wake up, they say we won. They didn't say what we lost."
"We've made some mistakes along the way. Some very recently."
Kimberly's brows furrowed together. She knew that something was wrong if Nick was here and not back where they were testing the tesseract. She didn't agree with the whole idea of even using an item that they hardly knew a thing about.
"You here with a mission, sir?"
Nick walked towards Steve. "I am."
"Trying to get me back in the world?"
"Trying to save it." Nick said handing the file over to Steve that regarded the tesseract along with other Hydra projects that he had stopped long time ago.
Steve's eyes wandered the page taking in as much as he could before looking up. "Hydra's secret weapon."
"Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought what we think, the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's something the world sorely needs."
"Who took it?" Kimberly questioned her brows pinched together in concern. She didn't like that idea that the Tesseract was taken and something had happened that they were now in a rush to get things done.
Steve handed back the file to Nick.
"He's called Loki. He's not from around here. There's a lot we'll ha ve to bring you up to speed on if you're in. The world has gotten even stranger than you already know."
Steve took a breath looking at Nick. "At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me."
"Ten bucks says you're wrong. There's a debreifing package waiting for you back at your apartment to share with Agent Kimberly."
Steve picked up a punching bag and started to walk out of the gym.
"Is there anything you can tell us about the Tesseract that we ought to know now?"
"You should have left it in the ocean."
Kimberly followed Steve out of the gym seeing the sour look that was upon his face. "You truly believe that it should've been left in the ocean."
"Yes, Shield should have never messed with it. It's unpredicable."
Kimberly pursed her lips together in thought. "I honestly don't know much about it. But something about it always rubbed me the wrong way… Perhaps because it glowed." She said with a simple shrug.
"You alright with going to my place ma'am?"
Kimberly let out a soft chuckle. "You know you can call me Kim." She pointed out to him as they walked towards his apartment. "Fury must've known that I would be with you since I was in charge of you trying to get you integrated into the world of today."
"You've been doing an alright job with it," Steve said, offering her a small smile.
"Not as good as I should have. There is still a lot for you to learn… but also for me to learn about the times back then too." She said as she put her hands into her pockets. "I wonder what fully happened if he is bringing you in… and myself in… but losing the Tesseract is something that we shouldn't have lost."
"It shouldn't have been found, but I'm willing to get it back and put it somewhere where no one can use it for evil again."
Kimberly pursed her lips together and then nodded her head. "So that tells me we are to look at the file and be on our way to Shield."

This is the end of Chapter 1. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best to write this chapter out the best that I could. I can't wait to show you guys what will happen next. Pretty soon we will see what Kimberly is able to do. But it will be a little while longer before she shows who she truly is in front of Steve. I haven't decided on who she should be paired off with, but it'll take time to figure that out. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. I will try to get the next chapter out soon. Until next time.
