Chapter 4 - Jasper
I'd been surprised when Bella had walked into my bedroom. It wasn't a secret that my mind had been playing tricks on me since I'd arrived in Texas at the ranch. I'd been so angry at Bella's birthday party when I'd learned the truth. I wasn't angry that Bella was my true mate. Quite the opposite actually. I'd been happy. No, I'd been angry and Alice and Edward and to some extent Carlisle too. He'd encouraged Alice and Edward to keep me away from Bella. My Bella. When I'd seen her enter my bedroom, I'd thought that I'd lost my mind. I thought that I was imagining her being there. Ever since I'd learned that she was my true mate, I'd imagined being with her so many times, but it never happened. So when she crouched in front of me and told me that she was really there I couldn't help the excitement that I felt. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and never let her go, but I knew that I couldn't. But then she started telling me about how she'd met Char and the conversation that they'd had.
I knew that I couldn't be mad at Char. On some level, I was grateful. She'd brought me Bella. I mean, sure, she shouldn't have told Bella everything that the Cullen's had lied about but I probably wouldn't have told her. I wouldn't ruin the good memories that Bella had with them.
Bella and I talked for a while before I pulled her over to the bed and lulled her to sleep. I could see how tired she was. And it wasn't just a physical tiredness. It was also emotional. She been told a lot of information that night.
Once she was asleep, I made my way downstairs, mainly realizing that I needed to hunt. When I stepped into the living room, I saw Char and Pete sitting on the couch. Char was flipping through a magazine while Pete was reading some book. He was like Bella in that sense. He loved to read. "Well, he lives." Pete said and I rolled my eyes.
"I haven't been that bad." I said.
He looked up from his book. "Really? Jas, you've barely left that room since you got here. And when you do, it's only to hunt. Once you told us what happened, the only things you've said is that you lost her or that she's gone. This is the most we've talked since you got here." Pete said.
I rolled my eyes again. I turned to look at Char. She was looking directly at me. I knew what she was waiting for. She thought that I'd be angry with her. But I wasn't. "Thank you. I don't know why you told her everything, but thank you." I said.
"No problem. She seems sweet. Can't wait to get to know her better." Char said before she went back to looking at her magazine.
"Sure Char. I'm sure Bella would love that." I said. "She's asleep. I'm going to hunt. I should be back before she wakes up." I said and they both nodded.
"Bambi?" Pete asked with a raised eyebrow.
I shook my head. "No more Bambi." I said, before I dashed out the door.
I wasn't sure how long I'd been gone, but I knew that it had been a while since I'd hunted. I'd managed to find 3 predators while I'd been strolling through the sketchy part of the nearby town. On my way back to the ranch, I thought about Bella. I thought about where we'd go from here. I knew that she still had about a year and a half left until she graduated and I knew that it was important to her. But after that? I had no clue. I knew that once upon a time, she'd begged Edward to change her. That she wanted to be like us. But now? I had no clue what Bella and I would do. If she wanted to remain human…then so be it. I'd stay with her while she remained human and then when she died, I'd go to the Volturi and have them kill me so that I could join her in the afterlife. But if she wanted me to turn her? Sure, I'd be okay with that too. I'd do whatever Bella wanted.
Arriving back at the ranch, I made my way upstairs to my room. Bella was still asleep so I grabbed a change of clothes and headed into the bathroom to take a shower. I knew she didn't like the sight or smell of blood. Now granted, I'd been a vampire for a long time. I knew how to feed without getting blood everywhere but I didn't want to take a chance.
After my shower and getting dressed, I climbed back into bed with Bella and watched as she instinctually snuggled into my side. I knew that when she woke we'd have to talk about the more important things.
I just hoped that things were going to work out the way that I wanted them too.
