Lana and Lola landed on the second floor of the castle with a flash of light, their forms quickly shrinking back to their normal size. They both took a moment to adjust, brushing off dust from their clothes and regaining their bearings.

"Normal size again," Lana said, flexing her fingers with a relieved smile. "Feels good to not tower over the world anymore."

"No kidding," Lola replied, stretching her arms. "Being tiny had its perks, but dodging fireballs as a bug? Not my favorite."

As they looked around, they noticed Angus, the castle's friendly guide, waiting for them. His face lit up as they approached.

"How did it go?" Angus asked eagerly.

"We're all done with the second floor," Lana announced proudly, holding up five Power Stars. "It was intense, but we managed."

"Great work, you two!" Angus exclaimed, clapping his hands. "That means you're ready for the third floor now."

Lola grinned. "Yep. Let's keep the momentum going."

But before they could head to the staircase leading to the third floor, a sharp beeping sound echoed from their Power Star detector. The twins exchanged a glance, and Lana quickly pulled the device from her satchel. On its small screen, a notification blinked.

"Update received," Lana read aloud, furrowing her brow. She tapped the screen, and a new message appeared.

"According to this," Lola began, leaning over her sister's shoulder to read, "there's a single star we didn't collect in every world we've visited so far. And to get it, we need to collect eight red coins in each world."

Angus stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Interesting. The red coins are a special type of challenge. They're hidden in hard-to-reach places, but collecting them is definitely worth it."

"But do we have time for this?" Lana asked. "I mean, shouldn't we focus on moving forward?"

Angus smiled kindly. "The more stars you collect, the stronger you'll be for the challenges ahead. If you feel up to it, revisiting those worlds could make a big difference."

Lana and Lola nodded in unison. "Alright," Lana said. "Backtracking it is."

The twins turned and made their way down the grand staircase to the first floor. They stopped at the familiar painting of Bob-omb Battlefield, its swirling colors almost inviting them back inside.

The twins leaped into the painting, feeling the familiar pull of its magic. Moments later, they landed in the vibrant, grassy fields of Bob-omb Battlefield. The sound of rushing wind and distant explosions filled the air, bringing a wave of nostalgia.

"Alright," Lana said, checking the Power Star detector. "Eight red coins. Let's split up and find them."

The first red coin was located above the moving platforms on the main path. Lana made her way up, dodging the familiar iron balls that rolled down the slope. Timing her movements carefully, she leaped onto the platform and grabbed the coin, its metallic red glow briefly illuminating her face.

"One down," she called to Lola.

Lola, meanwhile, had ventured toward the Chain Chomp's post. The area was now eerily quiet without the giant creature thrashing around. She spotted the second red coin hovering above the post and used her agility to climb up the remnants of the post and snag it.

The third coin was nearby, resting on a rock where the Chain Chomp had once been. Lola grabbed it easily and moved on to the fourth coin, which was hidden under the bridge leading to the mountain. She crouched low, reaching into the shadowy space to retrieve it.

Lana tackled the fifth coin, located on the steep incline at the base of the mountain. She carefully climbed the slope, dodging the iron balls that threatened to knock her down. With a final burst of effort, she reached the coin and pocketed it.

The sixth coin was trickier, perched on a tree on the floating island near the mountain. Lana spotted it from a distance and activated a nearby cannon to launch herself toward the island. She landed gracefully, climbed the tree, and grabbed the coin.

The last two coins were in the log area, located at the center of four wooden logs. Lola joined Lana there, and together they carefully navigated the area, avoiding the spinning logs as they collected the seventh and eighth coins.

As the final coin was added to their collection, a chime echoed through the battlefield. The Power Star appeared at the Star Marker in the log area, its golden light cutting through the afternoon haze. The twins rushed over and grabbed it together, feeling its warmth as they were transported back to the castle.

"Whew," Lola said, brushing her hair back as they landed on solid ground. "One down, how many more to go?"

"Too many," Lana replied with a laugh. "Next up—Whomp's Fortress."

They headed to the next painting, its fortress-themed design sparking memories of their earlier battles. Without hesitation, they jumped in.

Upon arrival, the twins immediately felt the weight of the fortress's atmosphere. The towering stone structures and rotating platforms were as intimidating as they remembered.

"Alright," Lana said, consulting the detector again. "Let's start looking."

The first red coin was above the middle Moving Bar on the main path. Lana leaped onto the bar, timing her movements carefully to avoid falling, and grabbed the coin.

The second coin was perched above the second Thwomp. Lola approached it cautiously, waiting for the massive creature to slam down before darting in and snatching the coin.

The third coin was behind a sleeping Piranha Plant. Lola tiptoed around the snoring creature, her heart pounding as she grabbed the coin without waking it.

The fourth coin was along a narrow ledge next to a collapsing bridge. Lana took this challenge, inching carefully along the ledge while the wind threatened to knock her off. She breathed a sigh of relief as she grabbed the coin and jumped to safety.

The fifth coin was on the rotating bridge between the regular coins. Lola navigated the bridge with precision, collecting the coin just as the platform began to rotate again.

The sixth coin was on a slope directly below the rotating bridge. Lana slid down the slope, grabbing the coin as she went, and landed safely at the bottom.

The last two coins were on a series of floating platforms at the top of the fortress. To reach them, the twins knocked over a nearby wooden plank to create a bridge. Together, they climbed the platforms, collecting the seventh and eighth coins.

Once the final coin was collected, the Power Star appeared at the base of the fortress. The twins descended quickly, dodging Thwomps and Piranha Plants as they went. They reached the star and grabbed it, feeling its familiar energy transport them back to the castle.

"Two down," Lola said, stretching her arms above her head. "This is turning into a workout."

"And we're just getting started," Lana added, glancing at the Power Star detector. The device beeped softly, guiding them toward their next destination.

The twins headed to the room housing the painting of Jolly Roger Bay. The watery image shimmered invitingly, and without hesitation, they dove in. A rush of cool air enveloped them as they landed near the familiar seaside cove. The salty breeze and gentle waves greeted them like an old friend.

As they explored the cove, they noticed a pink Bob-omb Buddy standing on one of the wooden platforms near the newly risen ship. They approached it, eager for guidance.

"Hello there!" the Bob-omb Buddy said cheerfully. "Looking for Red Coins, are we? Here's what I know: you'll find some in clam shells, others atop spires or platforms. Keep an eye out for the temporary platforms activated by the Purple Switch to reach the ship."

"Thanks!" Lana said, giving the Bob-omb Buddy a thumbs-up.

The twins set off. The first coin was easy to find, lying on one of the wooden platforms near the ship. Lana snatched it while Lola dove underwater to find the clam shells. The first clam shell, located near their starting area, opened to reveal a gleaming Red Coin. Lola quickly grabbed it, then swam toward the second clam shell just beyond the first.

Meanwhile, Lana had climbed to the crag near the Bob-omb Buddy and spotted a third clam shell. She waited as it opened and carefully collected the coin inside. The fourth clam shell, resting at the bottom of the bay, was a bit trickier due to its depth. The twins swam together, dodging fish and keeping an eye on their air meters as they retrieved the coin.

"That's four," Lola said, surfacing for air. "What's next?"

"The spire near the Bob-omb Buddy," Lana replied. They climbed the stone spire with care, the salty wind buffeting them as they reached the top and secured the fifth coin.

The final three coins were on the ship itself. They located the Purple Switch and activated it, watching as temporary platforms appeared, forming a path to the ship. The vessel rocked back and forth on the water, adding an extra layer of difficulty. Lana and Lola worked together to avoid the moving crate, timing their jumps carefully to collect the last three coins.

With the eighth coin in hand, the Power Star materialized at the ship's stern. The twins grabbed it triumphantly and were instantly transported back to the castle.

"Next stop: Cool, Cool Mountain," Lana said.

They entered the room and jumped into the snowy painting, landing amidst the icy winds and sparkling snow of the mountain. The first Red Coin was easy to spot, sitting on a tree near the entrance to the interior slide. Lana climbed up and grabbed it.

The second coin was located at the bottom of the exterior slide, just before the Headless Snowman's head. The twins carefully navigated the slippery slope to reach it. Nearby, they found the third coin at the end of a broken bridge, its precarious location requiring precise jumping.

They continued their search near the warp by the Mother Penguin, where the fourth coin rested. From there, they moved to the edge of the level, where they found the fifth coin near a steep drop.

The sixth coin was located on a tree near the exit of the interior slide. Lana climbed it swiftly, brushing snow off her gloves as she descended with the coin in hand. The seventh coin was atop the two ropes on which the chairlift moved, requiring careful balancing to reach.

The final coin was on a platform next to a yellow block and a patch of ice. With all eight coins collected, the Power Star appeared at the Star Marker on the opposite side of the broken bridge. The twins navigated their way back and grabbed the star, feeling its energy transport them to the castle once more.

"Four down," Lola said, exhaling a puff of visible breath. "And now, the dark world."

The twins made their way to the foreboding door that led to the castle's dark depths. Beyond it, they found a gaping hole in the floor. Without hesitation, they jumped in, descending into the swirling void.

The Dark World was a maze of platforms, fire pits, and treacherous ledges. The first two Red Coins were atop blocks that appeared upon activating a Purple Switch. The twins activated it and worked quickly to grab the coins before the platforms disappeared.

The third coin was next to the third crystal in the second section, glowing faintly in the dim light. Lana grabbed it while Lola headed for the fourth coin, located near the stone cube that moved on a set path. Timing her movements with precision, Lola collected the coin when the rectangular yellow block extended out.

The fifth coin was in the far left corner where two platforms circled each other. The twins worked together, using their teamwork to avoid falling into the void as they retrieved it. The sixth coin was near the pin on an octagonal platform at the start of the third section, and the seventh was behind the second seesaw.

The final coin hovered above the far-left platform overhanging the seesaws. With all eight coins collected, the Power Star appeared near the Warp Pipe at the end of the world. The twins raced to it, avoiding the last of the traps, and grabbed the star.

They were transported back to the castle, where they took a moment to catch their breath, Now it was time to go back to the haunted mansion.
