First Person POV: Isabella

The sisters and I shot through the woods like bullets. A few hours had passed on our run to the Denali national park. I clutched the bag with my merger belongings inside. I had put on the clean clothes that Lacy, the nomad, had given me so I didn't look like a wild woman when I met the rest of Tanya's coven. I peered into the forest ahead of us and saw that there was a modern-looking house coming into view.

"Nearly there!" Tanya told me enthusiastically and I grinned back at her in response.

I hoped I would get along well with their other coven mates. If they were anything like Tanya and her sisters, then it wouldn't be difficult.

As we approached the house, I saw that it was a large two-story home with cedar siding and lots of full pane windows. We ascended the front porch steps, and I followed them through the front door of their home.

"Carmen, Eleazar! We have a surprise for you." Tanya called.

Two vampires flashed down the steps. They had olive skin, wavy dark brown hair, and the same golden eyes that I had seen on the sisters. The woman had a loving and motherly vibe. She was tall like Kate with full lips and almond eyes framed by thick lashes. The man stood tall with an average build. He had a square jaw, prominent nose, and thin lips. And just like every other vampire I had met, they were beautiful.

"Hello girls… and who is this?" Eleazar inquired.

"This is Isabella, she's been living alone in the gates of the arctic national park. We found her when we went on our hunting trip." Tanya informed them.

"Oh, I'm sorry dear, what happened to your sire?" Carmen asked me.

"I'm not sure, I never met my sire." I told her.

"Isabella woke up alone with no memories of her human life or change." Tanya explained.

"Oh, you poor thing. How awful!" Carmen said while squeezing my shoulders comfortingly.

"You're remarkably controlled for a newborn, and your eyes…" He said, waiting for confirmation.

"Yes, isn't she so composed? And she discovered our diet all on her own, it's extraordinary!" Tanya gushed and the girls nodded in agreement. I fidgeted and looked at the ground, feeling unworthy of their praise.

"Oh, leave the poor girl alone, you're embarrassing her." Carmen chided. "Now, why don't we continue our discussion in living room?"

"Actually, I'd like to speak to you and Eleazar for a moment, we will join the rest of you momentarily." Tanya told the group.

I followed Irina and Kate into the living room and took a seat on one of the couch chairs. Tanya and Irina plopped down on the three-person couch. I started biting my lower lip and bouncing my heel while we waited for the others. I knew I shouldn't be so anxious, for all I knew they were discussing a matter totally unrelated to me.

"Calm yourself little one, there's nothing to be worried about." Kate said soothingly.

I stopped my fidgeting, but it still felt like an eternity before Tanya arrived with Carmen and Eleazar.

Tanya moved to stand in front of me. I looked up at her with wide eyes. What was going on?

"Isabella, I would like to offer you a place in our coven. We can train you to control your blood lust and protect yourself. What do you think?"

I was overcome with joy but couldn't seem to form words in the moment. So, I just squealed and jumped at Tanya, wrapping her in a tight hug. Tanya stumbled back a few steps, taken by surprise, but recovered quickly and returned my affection. I rested my chin on her shoulder and leaned my cheek against her soft curly hair. I got a whiff of the delectable scent wafting off her hair. Cherries and vanilla. It was potent and intoxicating. I felt venom pool in my mouth and swallowed it back. I discretely took another breath and reveled in her scent before breaking away.

"I'll take that as a yes then." She said with a chuckle.

"Yes!" I responded eagerly.

Once everyone had congratulated me, we settled on the couches around the living room. The sisters shared the three-seat couch and Carmen and Eleazar took a love seat, so I took a single couch chair. Tanya joked that they would have to order a four-person couch to fit all of us girls now. I smiled; I was simply happy to be part of their coven. If 'vegetarian' vampires were as rare as they said than it was almost kismet that I met the Denali's.

Tanya and Irina started a game of Mario kart. As the game went on, it started to get heated, and Irina lost by no less than a millisecond. I heard a crack as Irina crumpled her controller. I saw her drop the pieces in the trashcan next to the couch. Eleazar walked over to a set of drawers in the corner of the room and pulled out a brand-new controller. He tossed it to Irina as if it were a totally normal occurrence. Maybe it was?

I leaned over and peeked into the trash can. Sure enough, it was full of smashed controllers. I couldn't help but laugh. When Irina noticed what I was laughing at she defended herself.

"Hey, they're not all mine!" She said with a pout and Tanya gave her a disbelieving look.

"Okay, fine, most of them are mine…" Irina grumbled.

"She has anger issues." Kate mock whispered to me resulting in her receiving a finger jab in the ribs from Irina. I giggled at their antics.

"Hey little one, you want to play a game?" Kate asked me with a wicked smile and Tanya and Irina both groaned.

"Try not to scare off our newest family member Kate, keep it weak." Tanya warned.

"Don't worry sister, think of it as her coven initiation." Kate said and Tanya rolled her eyes in response. Kate got up and pulled a chair over to where I sat so that we across from each other.

"You'll want to be sitting for this. We're going to play red hands but enhanced. Now… let's play!" Kate said maniacally.

I was surprised she didn't elaborate on how the game was enhanced but decided to go with it and hope that I would catch on to any differences.

Kate placed her hands out flat, palms up and parallel to the floor and I placed my hands on top of hers.

In a flash Kate moved her hands around to slap the back of my hands, but I managed to pull away in time. I succeeded twice more before I saw her smirk. This time her hands came around immediately as I placed mine, taking me by surprise. Kate smacked my hands with a big grin. When I offered my hands for another round, she looked confused.

"Huh…Let's try that again." She said and held her hands out. This time, I avoided her once and then got my hands smacked. Kate was watching me expectantly, but I didn't have a clue what she was looking for.

"Again" she told me, sounding annoyed.

I placed my hands over hers and she successfully slapped my hands the first time around.

"Does that not hurt you?" She asked in disbelief. At this point the rest of the family had stopped what they were doing to watch our game.

"It's only a slap on the hands, I can take it." I said with a chuckle but trailed off when I saw everyone staring at me with varying degrees of confusion. "Why are you all looking at me like that? Did I do something wrong?" I asked, getting nervous. Luckily, my question seemed to snap them out of their shocked states.

"No of course not little one, it's just that when I touch people, I can make them feel as if they're being shocked. The pain level ranges broadly from a little zap to full on electrocution. And I just went full throttle on you… You should be convulsing on the floor right now." Kate informed me. I recalled Lacy telling me the basics about vampire gifts.

"How do you know it's me and not you?" I asked. Maybe her power wasn't working today.

Tanya offered her hand out to Kate and let out a yelp when they made contact.

"Nope, her power still works fine." Tanya gave us the verdict.

"It seems you may be gifted as well then." Eleazar told me. "Would you allow me to read you dear?"

"Read me?" I asked.

"I am also gifted; but my power is being able to identify gifts in others." He informed me.

"Okay, sure." I said, there was no harm in trying.

Eleazar walked over and stood next to me. He looked intensely focused and a few moments later he took Kate's seat and put his hands on my shoulders.

"Contact helps strengthen my gift." He explained to me.

He closed his eyes and tried again. A few moments later he pulled back and gave a frustrated sigh.

"I can't read you, it's like hitting a brick wall." He told me, shaking his head.

"Maybe that is her gift… Maybe she's a shield!" Tanya considered.

"Of course! Since my gift nor Kate's worked on you, I would guess that you are a mental shield rather than physical one but it's hard to tell without testing more gifts on you." Said Eleazar.

"We could invite the Cullen's over, most of them are gifted so it would give us a larger test pool." Suggested Irina.

"Excellent idea Irina!" Eleazar said but Tanya interjected.

"We should give Isabella some time to grow out of her newborn phase and get comfortable living here."

The rest of the coven murmured in agreement.

Third Person POV: Victoria

Victoria silently stalked a young man through the streets of Seattle. He fit her specifications perfectly; He was young, around 22, medium height with a heavy muscular build, and had long shaggy blonde hair. His face didn't matter as much to her.

She had just come from scouting Forks. She needed to see if the wolves had kept Bella around. She had doubted it but wanted to be thorough. Upon arriving, she was unsurprised to see Bella's funeral - featuring an empty casket - being held in a local park. Most of the wolves were in attendance whether for Bella or to support their fellow shifter, Jacob. The remaining wolves had been patrolling the woods. That much easier for her to slip onto their land undetected. Of course, she arrived by sea and had to immediately break into an empty house to shower and steal some dry clothing. But by arriving by sea with almost no wolves around, she managed to avoid them completely. She found no sign of Bella through scent or local gossip. After that, she took a few excursions, combing through the forest to make sure Bella wasn't hiding out in one of the cabins that dotted the land. After a few days of scouting, she was satisfied enough to conclude that she had either drowned in the ocean, or the wolves had dumped her somewhere to wake as a newborn. Bella's wolf friend had looked so devastated at the funeral that she wouldn't be surprised if the wolves had killed Bella instead of letting her change.

She smirked. Now she needed help; so, she had spent the last few months searching nearby cities for a companion that fit her needs. And that brought her here to Seattle.

She lurked a cautious distance away from the young man as he walked several blocks and turned down an alleyway. Now was the perfect time to strike.

"Excuse me?" She called from behind him in the most innocent voice she could muster. Acting was never her forte, but she knew her good looks and cleavage would do most of the work for her. She just needed to get the boy to her car.

He turned around and she saw his eyes widen and jaw drop. She fought the urge to snicker at his expression. He quickly snapped out of his gawking and blushed heavily. His scent enhanced with his blush, but she resisted with little effort since she had gorged herself on blood earlier. She had never changed anyone before, and she wanted to be sure she didn't lose a good candidate to thirst.

"My tire blew out a few blocks from here and I don't know how to change it. Would you help me?" She said and batted her eyelashes.

"Y-yeah, of course." He stuttered out, clearly still distracted by her beauty.

"Oh, thank you! My car is this way." She said while pointing to where she had parked.

She started off in that direction, making sure to keep a slow pace for the human.

"You know, a lady like you shouldn't be out here at night, it's dangerous." The boy said and she stifled a laugh at the irony.

"I know, but my tire blew out and I had no choice but to look for help." She said, faking distress. They were nearly to her car now. Just one more block.

"Hey, it's okay! I can protect you and I'll change your tire so you can make it home." He said, attempting to soothe her.

She gave him a grateful smile.

"Thanks… Oh that's my car there." She said as they approached her vehicle.

When they made it to the vehicle, she popped her trunk.

"There should be a tire somewhere in the trunk but I'm not sure I can lift it…" She continued with her charade.

"No problem, I've got it from here." He reassured her while not so subtly puffing his chest. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms behind him as he searched through her trunk.

"Hey, are you sure there's a spare in here? I'm not seeing one…" He asked.

"Oh really?" She said feigning innocence. Silly boy, she had cleared out the trunk to make room for him.

She stepped directly behind him. Then, faster than the boy could react, she pushed him down by the neck and threw him into the trunk.

"Hey! What the fuck?!" He yelled, but his voice was cut off by her slamming the trunk closed. She allowed herself a manic giggle now that there was no need to pretend and hopped in the driver's seat. She blared her music to drown out his shouting and took off down the road. She would sire him in the cabin she was permanently borrowing from her last meal.
