"Thank you for dropping me off," Cora said without looking at Robert. The drive home had been in an awkward silence. When Cora came downstairs, he had not been in the breakfast room. Carson had informed her that he wanted to leave around ten in the morning. Confused and lost she had wandered around in the garden. She did not dare wander in the house, how could she explain that she was alone and did not know where Robert was? Violet had not been at the breakfast table either, it was just her and Patrick. He had not mentioned Robert not being there, had Patrick assumed that Robert had already left? Cora had been in the breakfast room when he entered. When she came to the front door at ten, he was waiting next to his car. Without a word he opened the car door for her and got in himself.

Cora walked towards her door, just before she opened it, she heard Robert's car drive away. She sighed, secretly she had hoped he would make a gesture at the last minute. But she realised this was not a film where things always went the right way. She still had not figured out why Robert reacted the way he did. Of course, she had raised her concerns about how they would go on, but that was not a reason to be this angry. She knew it had been a mistake going to Downton, they were just trying too hard to be together, while everything in their life tried telling them that it would not work out.

She put her suitcase down and decided to go and take a long shower. She should start working on that second book, even though she knew it would be difficult getting the words out. She had already dreamed of sitting in Robert's living room while he played, and she could write. Only the two of them enjoying what they wanted to do the most. Being together and making art, she should let go of that dream and find her passion again in another way.

"Robert, please can you tell me what is wrong?" Rosamund looked at his grumpy face. Rosamund had invited him and Cora for afternoon tea, but Robert had said that Cora did not have time. Rosamund would have loved for Cora to be there too, but she already knew the happy news.

"Nothing is wrong, why would there be anything wrong?"

"You have been grumpy for weeks now. Since you came back from your visit to Downton something changed." Rosamund did not back up and wanted to know why he was behaving like this.

"Can you just leave it at rest. I told you nothing is wrong. Now can you tell me why you wanted me here? I have more things to do."

Rosamund gave Marmaduke a concerned look. "I am going to check if cook has everything. Do you want to stay for dinner?"

Robert shrugged his shoulders, he did not want to stay, but he realised that with this behaviour Rosamund would keep pressing for answers. He did not want to talk about it, but there was no other way he feared.

"Good, I will let cook know they need to prepare an extra plate. Dear?" She looked at Marmaduke. "Maybe you could offer Robert something a bit stronger than tea?"

Robert watched how Rosamund left the room, he knew exactly why she left them alone. She was hoping he would start talking, but if Marmaduke did not ask, he was not going to tell him anything.

"Women can be difficult creatures, can they not?" Marmaduke said while handing him a glass filled with Whiskey.

Robert looked at the glass that was filled more than half, he chuckled. Marmaduke always had loved having a good drink, but he knew that this was on purpose. "Rosamund can be very stubborn, she always has been."

"Do you have those problems with Cora?"

There she was, he thought. He knew it would come eventually. "We do not live together." He answered short.

"True, and if I had known how stubborn she could be, I would have never taken the step." Marmaduke winked.

"Would you not?" Rosamund said playfully. Her hand rested on Marmaduke's shoulder, and she softly squeezed him. "You can stay for dinner, cook will make an extra plate, I was just in time she said. I almost got told off by her." Rosamund chuckled. She sat down next to Marmaduke.

Robert saw how they looked at each other and he could see how much they loved each other. Could he have had something like this with Cora? He shook his head; he should not think this way. There were to many obstacles for them to be together. At the same moment that thought went through his head he knew he was lying to himself. There were not that many obstacles, he had only behaved in a childish way. Cora had been right with her doubts and just because he wanted to be romantic that evening and she had not reacted the way he had hoped he had gotten angry. It did bother him that he always had to fight for things he wanted. His mother never just accepted what he said, his father had questioned if he could take over the company and now Cora was also questioning him. He had proved his father that he was more than capable, and he was running the company at this moment. He would always have to endure his mother; she would never change. But Cora, oh darling Cora, he was not sure if he could safe what they had. He had been a total jackass and since he brought her back home, he had not heard from her. Suddenly he got up. "I am sorry, but I have to leave."

"What?" Rosamund exclaimed. "Robert, you cannot go, Cook will kill me."

"I will run down to her, she will understand." Robert emptied his glass in one go.

"Robert wait." Rosamund got up too. "We invited you here today because we have something to tell you." Marmaduke had also gotten up.

Robert stopped and turned back around. "You are ill?" He gasped. "Oh, please dear sis, please do not tell me you are ill?"

Rosamund stepped towards Robert. "I am not ill, and Marmaduke either, no we have good news."

Robert looked from Marmaduke back to Rosamund. "Marmaduke got a promotion?" he guessed.

"Oh, Robert do not be daft, why would we call you over to tell you something like that." Rosamund took Marmaduke's hand in hers.

"My dear brother-in-law, you are going to be an uncle." Marmaduke said smiling widely.

"What?" Robert looked confused.

"I am expecting a little one." Rosamund said with her hand on her abdomen. You are going to be an uncle in less than six months."

"Are you pregnant? Oh, dear sister, what an incredible news, I am so happy for you. Is it a boy or a girl? Do Mama and Papa know?" He wrapped his arms around Rosamund and gave her a big strong hug, he slapped Marmaduke on his shoulder. "Well done boy!"

"Thank you. Now can you please stay for dinner?"

Robert sighed, he wanted to go to Cora, but with this news he could not leave. "I will, but after dinner I have to run. I need to set somethings straight."
