Hiccup began to bring Finral up to speed about what transpired when he was knocked out.
"Captain Vangeance of the Golden Dawn?!" Finral gasped.
"That's right, he and Licht were sharing the same body nobody knew," Hiccup nodded.
"What? How does that even happen?" Finral asked.
"Licht said that William was asleep inside of him or something like that," Hiccup explained.
"So technically, it's more like he's possessed?"
"You're asking the wrong person, but it wasn't just him that started acting like a lunatic," said Hiccup. "Fishlegs and the doctor did as well; even Astrid is different."
Finral's eyes widened. "No way, Captain Astrid?"
"Suffice it to say a lot of crazy stuff went down while you were out," Hiccup sighed. "We're very lucky they didn't get control over you as well."
"Wait, I wonder if that's what happened to Langus?" said Finral.
"Very likely, out of all the scenarios I could anticipate, I never imagined this," said Hiccup as he turned towards the window. "I thought it would be the Eye of the Midnight Sun that would turn into elves. I did not anticipate that our own people would turn, let alone get possessed by elves driven by vengeance for a crime 300 years ago."
'That ominous mana I felt,' said Finral, thinking back. 'The way he tried to kill me without hesitation.'
Hiccup then looked back at Finral. "Hey, Finral. You ready?"
"Yes, sir," Finral nodded.
Moments later, they were outside and joined up with Heather and the twins. They looked towards Clover Castle.
"Your posture, they'll attack the castle?" Heather asked.
"From my conversation with Licht, he had a deep resentment of the Royal family, so I imagine the number one on his hit list," said Hiccup.
"You mean we have to go and rescue some stuffy royals?" Tuffnut grumbled.
"Yeah, can I get a rain check on the plan?" said Ruffnut.
"Look, I'm not entirely thrilled to help those self-centred royals myself, but there are some good people among them," said Hiccup. "Plus, if they die, the entire kingdom will be thrown into chaos, which is the last thing we want."
"Hiccup right, we have to save," said Heather.
Finral just looked towards the castle. 'Langus, I'll stop you this time. I promise that I will.'
In the woods, Magnus was still practising.
"Fire Magic: Explosive Scattershot!" he yelled, unleashing an onslaught of fireballs at a nearby cliff.
He then heard clapping and saw Vanessa had been watching the entire practical.
"Not half bad for a delinquent," she said.
"Why are you out here, Vanessa?" Magnus asked.
"I just got done visiting Finral, and I figured you'd be crying your eyes out from loneliness. So I stopped by to make you feel better."
"Crying?! Me?!" Magnus scoffed. "Yeah, right. And who said you can sit on my Crazy Cyclone, huh? Look, just don't interrupt my training."
He then looked towards the flames that were still lit on the cliff.
"Dak, Luck and Adelaide are out there destroying the Eye of the Midnight Sun with the Royal Knights right now."
"Most likely," Vanessa nodded.
"I outrank those three, so I'll be in embarrassment to them if I'm not as good as they," said Magnus, clenching his fist and then conjuring up a fireball. "That's why… I have to become stronger."
Meanwhile, at the Eye of the Midnight Sun hideout, Zora managed to carry Victoria across the lake. Then he turned to the hideout and thought of Dak. He hoped that he would keep his promise, but he was entirely confident.
At the same time, Dak was facing down the possessed Klaus, Hamon, and Leyla.
"What's wrong with you?" Dak yelled at them. "Tell me!"
"Please, can't you see you're nothing but strangers to us now?" said Klaus.
"No!" Dak yelled.
"I told you it's pointless."
"Stop screaming, or we'll silence you ourselves," said Hamon.
Hamon then raised his hand into the air and conjured up a large chunk of glass, and Klaus created a spear-like drill.
"Klaus, listen to me! You can't do this!" Dak pleaded.
Hamon then fired shards of glass at Dak, who quickly drew out his Demon-Dweller sword. He then quickly swung his sword, shattering the shards.
"Be careful," said Maple, who could only watch helplessly.
Klaus then launched his drill at Dak while he was busy deflecting the glass shards. He barely had time to block it with his swords, but the impact caused him to move backwards and then, using his strength, he managed to cut right through the drill.
"I'm begging you, stop it!" Dak yelled frantically. "We're all Magic Knights, don't you remember that?"
Klaus then suddenly felt his hand reacting to Dak's words. 'This body… it's responding to his words.'
He then glared at Dak. "You fool! Regardless of what we were in the past, our grudge is far deeper than any bond we shared!"
He then fired off two drills at the same time at Dak, but he was easily able to cut through them with his blades. Then suddenly, two steel spikes shot out of the ground, and Dak barely had time to jump out of the way to avoid getting skewered, but they did manage to graze him.
Dak winced as he picked himself up.
"Easy," said Rhya. "Don't go overboard, or you'll wind up dead."
Dak ignored him and got back up, not showing any hint of giving up.
"What a pain, though. As soon as we get the grimoire and the swords, you won't be used to us any more. Doesn't look like you're planning to give up. Well, if you're set on dying to protect your Royal pal, by all means, have at it."
Klaus and Hamon then began to combine their spells together.
"Dak, no," said Maple helplessly.
"Not yet," said Dak defiantly. "I'm not dying, not yet. I promised my friends that I would get out of this place alive. I won't let teammates kill each other; I'll survive. I'll get through this, and one day, I will become the Wizard King!"
Dak's words reached Leyla, who then began to remember those happy times she and Dak shared as they fulfilled their promise to one another.
"That was quite an impressive speech coming from someone who is too weak to move his body," Klaus admitted.
"We've heard enough," said Hamon.
"This is where you die…"
"Human!" they said in unison and fired their spells at the same time.
Dak braced himself, but then a wind tornado appeared before him and blocked the attacks. Everyone looked shocked as they turned towards Leyla.
"No one messes with my brother," said Leyla, who then appeared in front of him. "And I'm going to be the Wizard Queen."
"Leyla?" Maple stared.
"Is that really you, Ley?" Dak asked.
"It's me, Dak," she smiled.
"You sure because you've got pointy ears and everything?"
"So what if I do, it's still me."
"Sorry, but this whole possession thing is following me for a loop."
"I can confirm that is indeed Leyla," said Summer. "Though I can't say what is going on either."
Maple sighed. 'I'm glad they're not possessed, but I wish they get me down from here.'
"I can't really explain what happened, but it's still me," said Leyla.
"That's good to hear," said Dak.
Rhya just stared at them, shocked, but Klaus and Hamon still didn't appear to realise that the human spirit was still in possession of the body.
"You've awakened," said Klaus. "It's good to have you on our side. Come stand over here."
"Pipe down!" said Summer, blasting them with a powerful gust of wind. "We're having an important conversation here."
'Judging by that mana, the reincarnation must have been a success, but she's not quite ready though.' Rhya noted. His eyes then turned to Licht, who continued flowing in the middle of the room. 'And even with his swords and grimoire right in front of him, Licht isn't responding at all. Maybe it's because he's just used the highest-order forbidden Magic to bring his open friends back from the dead. We're definitely going to need some more time for…' He then looked back at Leyla. '…Licht and for you.'
"I'm not sure exactly what is happening, but I can sense different souls are moving within their bodies," said Leyla, looking at Klaus and Hamon. "Klaus and Hamon as we know them are lying dormant somewhere inside."
"Really?" said Dak as he freed Maple. "So, how are we going to bring them back?"
"Oh, thank you so much for rescuing me, Dak," said Maple, looking a little flustered.
'And inside my body…' said Leyla, sensing the presence inside of her.
"What's up?" Dak asked.
Leyla then looked at her former teammates defiantly. "I am Leyla, one of the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom and no one else."
"This is a shame," said Klaus. "That human vessel is awfully stubborn. It's clear now she hasn't fully awakened. The humans have tainted her. Very well, we'll slay those vermin behind you and exorcise you from that body!"
Klaus and Hamon unleashed their Magic at them, but Leyla easily blew away with her Wind Magic.
"What?!" Klaus stared.
"Those bodies belong to my squad mates," said Leyla. "Leave them now, or I'll force you out."
"Well, if this is the way you want to behave," said Hamon, creating a large amount of glass.
"You've left us with no choice!" said Kalus, creating a massive amount of steel.
The two of them then began to combine their magics together.
"Whoa, they're making the room shape just by glaring at us," said Dak.
"I know I can't fix this, but I can stun and capture them," said Leyla. "I'll handle them. You went Maple should fall back."
Dak then burst out laughing, to everyone's confusion.
"Yeah, right," he said as he placed his hands on his Demon-Slayer sword. "I want in on this, too. Save some fun for me."
"How about a bit of a power boost, Ley," said Summer.
"You read my mind," said Leyla.
"Maple, could you give us a little extra room to work here?" Dak asked.
"Okay," said Maple, quickly running off.
"With new developments and improved grimoires, magic is significantly more refined than it was during our time," said Klaus.
"I agree," said Hamon.
The two of them then stood upon a steel-moving fortress with razor-sharp spikes and covered in glass.
"Combo Magic: Le Chateau du Verre!" they said.
"You're finished!" said Kalus, glaring down at them.
"Man, that is a tough–looking spell," said Dak. "You not scared, are you, Ley?"
"Their power is outrageous, I can't protect us both this time," said Leyla as she merged with Summer.
The two of them then entered their spirit and dark forms.
"Here we go!" they said.
"Onward! Chateau du Verre!" Klaus and Hamon commanded.
The fortress began to advance towards Dak and Leyla, who then suddenly took off straight towards them.
'It's over!' said Leyla.
'You're going down!' said Dak.
Leyla unleashed a powerful blast of spirit energy, which slammed into the glass shield surrounding the fortress and held it in place. Dak then swooped in and sliced the thing in two with his sword, and Leyla demolished what was left of it with her spirit energy. They landed directly behind the fortress, which crumbled to pieces. Klaus and Hamon fell to the ground unconscious.
"Whoa, that was amazing, you two," said Maple.
Rhya stared at them, shocked. 'The Anti-Magic brat is another pain, but now this one gets the magic boost from reincarnation even though she's not completely awakened yet.'
Rhya did not like his chances, as he was still recovering from his fight with Victoria. However, Licht had seen the entire battle, bringing back memories of the elf massacre; he then appeared before Klaus and Hamon and had them float using Magic.
"Licht," said Rhya stunned.
Dak and Leyla just stared at him.
'He should be out of power; how is he able to make things levitate?' Leyla stared and sent an incredible amount of magic power coming from him. 'The mana is strangely dense. This is impossible.'
He then landed in front of the curved sword.
"Now we have to defeat their leader, but what's with the sword?" said Dak.
He then felt movement within his shirt, and suddenly poking out was Nero.
"Nero?" Dak blinked. Nero then suddenly began taking him relentlessly. "Hey, cut that out. It really hurts."
Licht then grabbed the sword and pulled it out of the ground; the moment he did, it turned pure white, and in response, Dak pulled out his Demon-Dweller sword.
'His aura,' Dak frowned.
'That sword has massive power,' said Leyla.
'Uh-oh, I can't sustain this form much longer. Come on, just a little more.'
Leyla noticed that Dak was struggling. "Dak, careful, all right."
"Yeah, I know that," said Dak.
However, when he looked up, he suddenly saw Licht right in front of him.
'He's fast,' Dak gasped. 'No, it's more like he's melted into the air. I can't read his aura now.'
'Why can't I pick up his mana? Did he somehow become one with the natural mana around him?' Leyla stared.
Licht then grabbed Dak's Demon-Dweller sword and raced into the air, and it instantly turned pure white. He then swung it straight down, and they were suddenly blown away by the swing. Dak jumped around across the rubble as Licht sent a slashing attack with the Demon-Dweller sword straight at him, and he barely had time to block it with his Demon-Slayer sword.
Licht began swinging his sword, unleashing more slash attacks, but this time at Leyla, who flew around the area to avoid them. He then suddenly moved with blinding speed, and within seconds, right in front of her, she barely had time to stop as he thrust the Demon-Dweller at her but quickly moved in and slammed right into him.
Dak kept swinging his sword relentlessly, but Licht kept parrying his attacks. He then slammed his sword on top of him, but Licht blocked it and pushed him back. Leyla then began to fly around Licht, which created a massive tornado.
'Wing Spirit Binding Magic: Liable Tempest!' she said.
The tornado then turned into strings and wrapped themselves around Licht, trapping him in place.
Leyla then landed next to Dak. "Please don't miss."
Dak smirked. "Where did all that confidence go?"
Dak then shot out towards Licht and struck him with his sword. 'Got him.'
"Dak, look out!" Leyla warned.
Licht somehow recovered and struck Dak while his back was turned, sending him crashing into the ground. Then, when he tried to pick himself up, Licht landed next to him, kicked him aside, and sent some more slashing attacks.
Dak quickly cut through them with his blade, but the last one was powerful enough to send him back.
Leyla then created a bow out of wind and aimed towards Licht, who was now fighting Dak in close quarters. She was waiting for an opening when suddenly, he appeared right in front of her and cut right through her bow. He swung his curved sword, and she quickly leaned back to avoid getting skewered.
However, she lost her balance and began falling towards the ground, where Licht somehow appeared, kicking her towards Dak. The two landed near the wall, with Leyla standing upon it.
"He's casting Fast Movement, now what?" Leyla asked, looking down at Dak.
"This is where we push past limits!" said Dak determinedly.
"That's your big plan?"
Licht then unleashed another powerful slash attack, which slammed into Dak. It hit him with so much force that he was sent crashing through the walls, and then Licht appeared in front of him and kicked him down towards the ground, where he landed in a large lake.
Licht then swooped down to finish him off, but Leyla blasted him with a powerful gust of wind.
"Wing Spirit Magic: Spirit Storm!" Leyla yelled, unleashing a powerful blast of spirit Magic.
However, Licht merely raised the Demon-Dweller sword and absorbed the attack. Leyla put more into the attack, and it blasted a hole right through the wall, but no matter how much force she put into the attack, Licht was able to absorb it.
'It's drawing my magic towards it,' she stared.
Licht then pulled the sword away, and it began to glow green.
'That's just one of the fun little perks that comes from the original Demon-Dweller sword,' Rhya smiled.
Licht then swung his sword, unleashing the Magic he had absorbed. Leyla quickly dodged it and watched as it sliced right through the wall; she quickly moved again, just narrowly avoiding being struck by Licht. She was now flying away as Licht chased after her, and she fired another magic blast. However, Licht was able to absorb it and then thrust his sword at her.
Their attacks collided, unleashing a small explosion that sent Leyla flying backwards, where she slammed into the wall.
Dak was deep within the lake; he had lost his grip on his sword and reverted back to normal. His entire body was hurt, and he found it difficult to move.
'This guy is strong, and what the heck did he do with my sword?' he said. 'I don't know what's going on anymore. I hate this. Come on, body, you can't just give up on me, not now!'
Rhya just yawned. 'That runt should be reaching his limit any second. I'm pretty worn out myself, but a good job getting this far.'
"Dak… Leyla…" she said, also finding it difficult to move. 'I can't heal them right now. My Magic is…'
Leyla was now battling against Licht outside the hideout, but she was finding it difficult to stay ahead of him.
'I can't find an opening, time to change my approach,' she said.
She then continued to fly around, clashing with Licht, until she successfully managed to blast him with her spirit energy. He was able to block it with his blades, but the impact caused him to fight up into the sky until he finally was able to absorb it with his sword.
'Not yet,' said Leyla.
She then unleashed a powerful tornado against him, but he sliced through it with the slash attack, which she narrowly avoided.
'Not yet!'
Licht continued to unleash slashing attacks, and Leyla danced around them.
'Not yet!'
'I'm surprised she can handle attacks that first,' said Rhya. 'Nice moves.'
'Not yet!' Leyla yelled, dodging yet another slash attack. She then raised her hand towards him. 'All right, might turn! Mana Zone!'
Rhya's eyes widened when he realised what she was attempting to do. 'That's what that fire chick used!'
He quickly spun around and looked up at Licht. "Watch out!"
Leyla created a vast amount of spirit energy directly behind Licht, where his guard was the weakest.
'Spirit Storm!' Leyla yelled, unleashing the attack.
It was incredibly powerful and incredibly fast, but Licht pointed his Demon-Dweller sword directly behind him and absorbed the attack.
Rhya smiled. 'Look at that; she is only partway through the reincarnation process, and she still managed to catch him off guard. Well, she and Licht are…'
At the same time, Dak managed to clutch his Demon-Slayer sword and re-entered his Black form. He then shot out from the ground directly next to Rhya, who stared at him stunned.
'Wait… I thought he couldn't move!' he gasped.
Dak then moved with blinding speed, smashing through the ceiling until he eventually got outside.
'This is it,' said Leyla. 'Dak is pushing past his limits!'
"I'm not done yet!" Dak roared.
Rhya was completely stunned by what had just happened. 'Their timing is perfect like they planned it that way. Who are these two?'
"You're not killing Leyla!" Dak roared as he swung his sword.
"Or Dak, either!" Leyla added.
They combined their attacks and slammed them as hard as possible against Licht, sending him flying. However, he was able to cushion the attack by blocking it with his other sword, but the combined attack caused him to lose his grip on it.
"He blocked it with that sword?" said Dak, quickly grabbing it.
Licht then pointed his Demon-Dweller sword at them.
'He's condensing a huge amount of magic,' Leyla stared.
He then unleashed all the Magic he had stored up, blasting them with incredible spirit energy. It was so powerful that it kept going straight down back towards the hideout.
Maple felt the wind swirling around her and recognised it as Leyla's Magic.
'Is this Leyla's spell?' she asked.
She saw something melting through the ceiling and then shutting right through it was Dak and Leyla. The two of them were using all their strength to hold back the spirit blast, but it wasn't enough, and it shot right through the headquarters and slammed into the lake. The blast was so powerful that it uprooted several trees near the lakeside.
The Royal Knights had to use their Magic to protect themselves from the after-shock. The heat was so powerful that it completely evaporated the lake.
Dak just lay there on the ground unconscious, and the curves saw that he took from Licht ended his grimoire and turned rusty black.
