Chapter 28
A/N: Sorry guys, I know it isn't much, but I'll be ready next week. Please review, I'd love to hear what you guys think. Enjoy!
You wake up in a starkly white room. You're dressed in all white with comfortable jean-like pants, sneakers, and a t-shirt. You're just lying there, on the floor. Sitting up, you look around, taking in your surroundings. The room is fairly small probably about 4 meters long and 3 meters wide. In one wall, is a door, also white; it looks like it's made of metal and probably heavy or at least heavily secured. On another wall is a mirror, set into the wall; though, if your memory serves you correctly—which you hope it has so far—it's probably a one-sided window through which someone else can watch you.
You stand up and walk towards the mirror. You knock on it and shout,
"Hey! I'm awake! I'm guessing you need me for some reason, otherwise you wouldn't have gone through all that trouble to get me here. And I'm thinking you're in somewhat of a hurry otherwise you would've waited until my time in the Glade was up. So come talk to me, don't leave me waiting forever."
You sit back down again, the floor really not all that uncomfortable. You don't have a watch and have no other way of telling time but it feels like a solid twenty minutes before you hear a high-pitched beeping sound and the door opens. You've been staring at the door on and off for most of the time and now you draw your attention back to it. Rat Man steps through and looks down along his nose at you.
"Ah, Y/N. I hope you weren't waiting too long."
You stand up and walk over to him,
"Let's just get this over with."
"Come with me," he turns around and walks out the door.
You follow him out and, in the hall, you see two armed guards like the ones in the Maze standing at your door. They follow you and Janson as he leads through a number of turns and corridors. You try to focus on how you're getting where you're going, just in case; you never know. Eventually, the four of you come to a door labeled Chancellor Ava Paige; Janson opens the door and heads inside, gesturing for you to come in as well. The guards stay outside. When you step through the door, you're not surprised to see the room from your memory: the one where you waited with Teresa before talking with the Chancellor.
"Please sit down," Rat Man says, as he points to a bench, the one where you and Teresa had sat in your memory.
You reluctantly sit down—not really wanting to follow orders but knowing it's probably the best option in order for you, Newt, and Minho to make it back to the Glade alive—as the man goes into the next room. You get bored and glance around, the room is basically the same so it couldn't have been too long since you met Ava Paige for the first time. The secretary woman sitting behind the desk wasn't there though, now it was a nerdy-looking guy who looked pretty young and who you wouldn't be surprised to hear was gay.
"Excuse me," you say.
He turns his attention to you and says, "Yes, what is it?" very impatiently.
Ah, so not that different then, you think to yourself, These people clearly have no respect for teenagers. You put on a nice face and answer,
"I was wondering what happened to the former secretary."
"Oh, her? She's in the Crank Pits, got the Flare unfortunately."
You nod along as if you know what he's talking about, "Thank you."
What?! You wonder silently. You shake the thought away, deciding to ask someone later, as the door that Janson disappeared behind opens and Rat Man gestures for you to come in. You breathe deeply, getting ready for whatever was coming, keeping your nerves in check so you don't slip up and get you and your friends killed. You stand up and go inside Chancellor Ava Paige's office.
The Chancellor is standing next to her floor-to-ceiling window as you walk in. She turns around and says,
"Ah, Y/N. I was wondering when we would meet again."
"What do you want?" you cut to the chase, wanting to get back to the Glade as soon as possible.
"Oh, in a hurry, are you? Don't worry, we'll get you and your friends back where you belong in no time, so long as you don't misbehave," she winks at you as if you guys are old friends and it was an inside joke.
Your face is definitely saying What the hell? as you say, "Whatever, let's just get this over with."
Ava Paige turns to Janson and says, "Leave us."
"Right away," he leaves, closing the door behind him.
