Chapter 6
Flight of The Turtle
A peaceful breeze swept over the ocean, and seagulls flew across the sky, their cries carrying across the great blue as the white birds soared their way towards land.
Calm waves rolled across the sea, following the warm breeze's ever-changing direction, and a gray whale rose up for air before heading back to the depths. Peace and harmony resonated through the region, and a pelican landed upon the water, resting its wings as it bathed in the great blue.
The sun continued to shine over the ocean, bathing the waters with its majestic yellow rays, just like with every inch of land and every other body of water.
And then, the sea exploded.
Mighty torrents burst into the air, with water shooting in every direction, carried by an explosion of fiery nuclear energy.
The resting seagull cried, and flew back to the skies above before the blast could hit the beaked sea bird. Water shifted violently, sending waves in every direction, and the scaly visage of the irradiated beast known as Godzilla surfaced, with smoking burns upon his face.
He threw back his head, and he let out another menacing roar that shook the world to its core. Godzilla's white-black dorsal plates flashed and crackled, and his eyesight cleared.
The beast looked around the ocean with a snarl, and shot out another stream of his radioactive plasma at the water in front of him. The sea steamed and boiled, with more violent waves sweeping around the ocean.
Godzilla growled at the water, his eyes narrow with great fury.
The towering leviathan of destruction suspected that his rival below was not finished, and he was prepared for the battle to continue until that fire-breathing turtle titan was destroyed, leaving Godzilla as the ultimate leviathan to walk the Earth.
Or maybe the fire-breather had perished, with his charred remains laying upon the sea floor below.
Perhaps, it was over.
A large torrent of water shot into the air, and Godzilla lifted his head to watch as a shelled, scaly UFO hovered above the ocean. Gamera, still alive and gleaming with fire, raised his head from his shell and roared at the atomic beast. The flying turtle kaiju dove towards the mutant dinosaur like a comet, and Godzilla ducked his head.
His tail shot up, and smacked Gamera as he passed by. The turtle swerved, and plummeted into the ocean. Steam and water rose up, and the centuries-old reptile lifted himself to Godzilla's level, his eyes blazing furiously.
Godzilla let out an indigenous roar, which Gamera responded to with a ferocious howl, and the two mighty leviathans lunged at each other.
Fierce, angry battle cries filled the air, and the beasts engaged in the next round of their duel.
In that moment, upon Oshima Island, the refugees of Jatosama Village stood at a distance, watching as Godzilla and Gamera engaged in battle. No one knew for sure what the outcome would be, but some carried hope for a positive outcome to the situation at hand.
Violent waves crashed against the island's shoreline, caused by the tussle of the titans, and birds flew from the trees near the beach area.
Godzilla and Gamera grabbed for one another, and their hands closed around their respective wrists. Both monsters' eyes leveled with one another, and they struggled for dominance.
A resolute Godzilla pushed against Gamera's defenses, and the turtle pushed back. Steam rose from the latter's mouth, and the former's dorsal plates pulsated with greater power beyond recognition. Gamera growled, and a jet of bright orange fire shot forth from within his mouth.
He leaned closer, attempting to set Godzilla ablaze, and the titanic dinosaur countered with a burst of irradiated plasma that hit Gamera in the mouth.
The great turtle titan reared back, coughing and smoking, surprised by Godzilla's move. Godzilla pushed forward, and slashed at his rival's chest. Blood poured out, dripping into the ocean, as Gamera let out an earth-splitting shriek. Godzilla moved further, and slashed at his face, with his claws cutting into Gamera's cheek.
An ear-splitting cry left the megaton turtle's throat, and more blood oozed into the ocean. Reeling with pain, Gamera spat a large stream of fire at Godzilla, knocking him back by several feet, and the resulting explosion blinded the nuclear reptile's eyesight for a moment.
Gamera growled, and reached up to touch his bleeding cheek.
In moments, the wound began to close up. Cells reformed, nerve endings began to reconnect, and skin tissue knitted itself together before scaly flesh closed over the spot that had been ravaged by Godzilla's claws.
A concentrated beam of nuclear energy slammed into the turtle's face, and his vision blurred as Gamera blindly fell back. Godzilla, who'd launched his next counterattack, roared, and began moving towards his nemesis like before. He observed the near-blinded Gamera, and started to strategize the next attack.
Right then, Gamera's head shot up, with fully-opened eyes, and the turtle fired off another fireball that exploded in the prehistoric reptile's face.
The flames licked Godzilla's eyes, and he shrieked with confusion. Godzilla blinked, and concentrated his nuclear energies into healing himself. As his eyesight became normal once more, the kaiju noticed Gamera was gone.
And then, he looked up.
He was in flight, his body spinning, and soaring over the ocean. Gamera flew high above the water, and ascended higher. The fire-breathing turtle's flight path began to level out, and the flames spitting out of his body became brighter, until he was getting smaller by the moment.
From below, Godzilla watched Gamera leaving, his eyes filled with disdain. He raised his head to the sky, and let out another thundering roar. The Big G was not finished with the turtle yet, and he knew that wasn't a retreat.
The scaly giant dove beneath the waves, with water splashing in various directions, and he began swimming in the direction Gamera was headed. Wherever the turtle went, Godzilla was eager to continue the battle, and find more nuclear energy to feast on.
