Chapter 10
Engulfed in Nuclear Fire
Chaos swept through the streets of Tokyo.
The city police scrambled into action once they were given the notice, and on-duty guards got to work with evacuation efforts. Patrol cars rolled onto every district, with sirens wailing and flashing, as police units across Tokyo opened evacuation corridors, with groups of citizens either being sent to different safe zones.
Some were sent down to the subway stations. Others were loaded onto trucks to be transported to a designated safe area outside the main city.
Wailing alarms echoed through every street, and the ground rumbled intensely. Railroad lines were shut down, with train trips being cancelled.
A blue light illuminated the skyline, and an office building erupted in fire before toppling to the ground. Godzilla's head reared over the rooftops of every building, and black smoke rose into the dark sky from the flames that consumed the city block.
The gargantuan reptile smashed through a freeway overpass, and debris scattered across the district, smashing into abandoned automobiles that lay parked in nearby street corners.
Windows shattered, and several onlookers, who hadn't evacuated, made a break for the subway stations, hoping to find protection from the unfolding disaster.
Japanese news reporters on the scene commented on the situation as they maintained a safe distance, covering the attack in real time. The scaly goliath's back flashed a bright blue light once more, and Godzilla fired another blast of radioactive plasma upon the surrounding district, setting fire to the area.
The flames illuminated the Tokyo skyline, rising high against the darkening, smoke-filled sky like tortured souls attempting to escape from the eternal fires of Hell itself. The glow of firelight illuminated Godzilla's face, as if adding to an apocalyptic image with a great world-devouring beast.
He stepped forward, and let out another roar that shook the streets. The police units conducting the evacuation efforts began to vacate the area, and the officers scrambled to evacuate. Police cars rode off, with the wail of their sirens fading by the moment.
Across the street, on 54th Road, a pair of tanks rolled into position, with all guns trained on Godzilla, and military trucks equipped with missile launchers arrived to join the tank corps. The beast stepped forward, his foot smashing a truck full of gasoline, and the street corner erupted in flames as the gas truck exploded.
Right at that moment, the tanks moved forward, and the sound of cannon-fire echoed through the streets as the batteries let loose. Godzilla turned to face the military unit with a storm of fury in his eyes, and gunfire exploded around his head. His arms wavered, and his vocal cords rumbled as he bellowed, "SKREEEEOOOONK!"
Godzilla stomped the ground, cracking the streets, and generating a shockwave that shook the military unit. One of the trucks tipped over, and every missile in it's silo went off. The missiles shot towards the beast's upper body, and exploded on impact with the neck.
The tank corps and the trucks fired off another round, and began pulling back in moments. Godzilla's spines flashed, and the beast opened his maw to release another burst of atomic energy, with his sights set on the trucks and tanks.
With a flash of nuclear energy, the goliath fired, and the street exploded in a ball of fiery destruction, taking the military force with it. The tanks melted into piles of slag that sank into the smoldering asphalt, and chunks of concrete burned to ash. Godzilla turned away with a growl, and continued his advance.
He was marching towards the Ginza district, near the heart of Tokyo, and the irradiated reptilian had just entered Shinagawa. His continuous footsteps quaked the streets, and shook every building within his proximity to its foundation.
Moments later, the sound of rumbling perked his ears, and the radioactive behemoth looked up to see fighter jets approaching, with bombers close behind. Japanese fighters swooped in, and streaked around Godzilla's head like flies.
The pilots squeezed the trigger, and let loose, with guns blazing. Another group of fighters roared past Godzilla, sporting a star-spangled symbol. American F-22s. The United States-model jet fighters swooped around for a run at the King of The Monsters, and gunfire lit up the sky.
Godzilla roared and swatted at the passing planes, his eyes flashing with rage. The jets attacked from every direction, with missiles and bullets streaking towards the radioactive gargantuan before they exploded against his scales. The bombers flew closer, and the jets scattered to let the bombs fall.
With the click of a button in the cockpit, the bomb bay doors opened, and the bombers' payload rained down on Godzilla's head. The bombs detonated on impact with the beast, and the kaiju snarled as his face vanished in a fiery haze.
The smoke settled, and a blue light flashed across Godzilla's back.
The titanic monster's head shot up, and a ray of energy exploded from his throat, streaking towards the bombers, and the planes erupted in a ball of fire. The jet fighters swooped around, ready to make another attack run, and Godzilla's head shifted. He fired another shot, and two planes burst into a ball of flame.
A Japanese jet swooped over Godzilla, streaked up in a dive-bomb fashion, and turned around before making a beeline for the towering leviathan as the pilot prepared for his attack.
He didn't get the chance.
Godzilla's nuclear ray streaked towards the fighter plane, and the blast of blue plasma swallowed the aircraft. The jet burst into flame, and dove towards the city streets. With sparks flashing around him, the pilot screamed, and his fighter exploded in moments.
"Watch out!" An American fighter pilot shouted to one of his comrades.
The kaiju's heat ray struck a JSDF fighter jet, and the engines exploded violently. The uncertain pilot scrambled to hit the eject button, and looked up to see one of his comrades' fighters in his flight path as Godzilla's nuclear fire followed.
Both jets collided, and a ball of fire engulfed both pilots. The Japanese and American fighter units pivoted, and turned, attempting to get away from the indestructible titan. Godzilla roared, and let out another blast of atomic energy. One-by-one, the remaining planes exploded, and their remains rained down upon Tokyo.
He let out another burst of radioactive fire, and explosions ignited the surrounding city blocks, while consuming the remnants of the attacking planes. Godzilla roared, and continued his advance, as the city became rubble and ash, a smoldering memorial to the unknown.
