Harry sat at the dining room table at the Burrow at 4 in the morning, thinking about what he was doing with his life. He had realized he didn't want to be an Auror anymore. But he didn't really think going back to Hogwarts and pretending that life hadn't changed, that he hadn't died and come back, was the best thing either. He couldn't stay at the Burrow much longer either. Not that the Weasleys wouldn't have him. But Mrs. Weasley's grief was overbearing and was actively hurting Harry as he tried to grieve his own losses. Then it hit him. He did have somewhere else to go: Grimmauld Place.

Just him and Kreacher for a bit. Now that Regulus' mission was accomplished, maybe the old elf would be more agreeable. Unable to wait, Harry scribbled down a note and left it on the table, walking outside to apparate. He could fetch his stuff later once he figured out if the Black estate was going to work out long term.

He stood outside the dilapidated building, more worn than the muggle buildings identical on either side and took a deep breath before opening the door. The dust had gotten worse since he'd been here last year but there were no obvious signs the Death Eaters had gotten inside. And wasn't that a relief; to know that Sirius' last gift hadn't been desecrated by those thugs.

Kreacher stepped out of what Harry thought was a closet, wielding a cast iron skillet.

"Intruders in the house of Black?" the old elf mumbled fiercely.

"Kreacher, it's okay. It's Harry Potter. The house is still safe."

"Strange Master Half-blood is returning to House Black?"

He sighed internally; they were going to have to work on a better name. "Yes Kreacher, I was hoping to stay here with you and fix the house up while I work on what comes next for me."

"Kreacher will help Young Strange Half-blood Master be presentable."

"OK, great. Can you fetch my things at the Weasley's house? And then we can work on what comes next together."

The elf nodded, big ears flapping. "Kreacher understands. Kreacher fetches master's items."

Harry sighed, and moved to settle in Sirius' old room. First step to figuring out his life accomplished.
