Vik was thinking. This was not common for him. It's not like he never thought, no, he did, of course he did, but it was more of something he was doing while doing other things, he rarely just thought. But today, he did. His mom immediately noticed that:
-Sweetie, you seem really quiet today. Is everything okay?- April asked.
April Donovan (née Young) was the current mayor of Mystic Falls. She grew up there, then went to boarding school, came back when her dad died and lived there for a while. After graduating, she moved in order to get away from all supernatural stuff and went to college.
A few years after finishing college, she came back to Mystic Falls. That's when they were electing the mayor. She ran and won against, of all people, her childhood crush, Matt. He wasn't upset that he lost, remaining the sheriff, but he and April started dating, eventually got married and had Vik.
-I'm fine, Mom.
-Are you sure you're not thinking about Vivian again?
-I told you, I'm over her.- April smiled and stroked his hair. They sat like that for a while, but then she had to go (mayor and all) and Vik was left to think again.
He thought about Riss.
She was his best friend. She's always been his best friend. Ever since he could walk. No, before he could walk. He could talk to her about anything, laugh together… that's just how it is with friends. But last time he saw her, when she was visiting Damon and Elena, it kind of felt different. Maybe that was because he and Vivi weren't together anymore, and he was upset. But what does that have to do with Riss? He always told her everything, but when Vivi left him, he didn't even think about telling her. Why? What was it about Riss that changed? Nothing. Nothing changed in Riss. Still his best friend/bully. Then it must be him. What changed in him?
