Chapter 18

Red led them to a seemingly abandoned old brick building. It was a single story that Kara could almost smell the carpets that had been sold in there. A good place to hide as it had a garage door on the short side of the building and the back rooms would offer privacy while the windows on the front would let in light – both from the streetlights and the sun. The front part of the building held the old racks that carpet would have been mounted on which would allow people to sneak from the side door to the back rooms.

"Should we send in Red?" M'gann asked. She and Supergirl were hovering above the building while the ARGUS agents were moving their van so as not to warn any building occupants they were being watched. Parking just up the street, the agents jumped out of the van and started moving toward the abandoned store.

"They're expecting her to be dead. She waltzes in there and they might shoot her to make sure," Kara figured.

"Point. X-ray vision through the walls to scope it out?" The Martian suggested.

"On it," Kara winked and began scanning the building.

"We have people. I have three in the southwest corner – back office. That's it though," the blonde frowned after a few minutes.

"Could be more of the lowly bunch that we caught earlier," M'gann said.

"Could be. We need to snag them. One of them might know something important," Kara said as she watched the ARGUS agents, who were wearing full tactical uniforms, surrounding the building.

"ARGUS, we're heading in," M'gann announced on the comms.

"Roger. Infiltrate from above, while we come in from the front door," Agent Rainwalker said.

"On my count. Three, two, one…" the word slipped from Kara's mouth and then she and M'gann went through the sagging roof. The ARGUS agents busted in through the broken windows and back door. The three were quickly surrounded but that didn't mean much as they had witnessed people harm themselves all in the name of Enigma.

Kara zipped to the one closest to her and grabbed the gun out of his hand while M'gann tackled the man standing next to him. There was a shout of "we've got a rabbit!", which meant that the last one was on the run. Kara blew her cold breath and froze the person's foot. They fell down screaming. There was a good chance the person would lose their foot but it was better than being dead from an ARGUS agent's bullet.

The blonde watched as the person fell down and was immediately tackled by ARGUS agents. It was a seemingly successful mission as they hauled their catches to their feet and then to the middle of the room. Kara admittedly did not recognize the men but she quickly recognized the third person.

"Enigma!" The blonde's eyes went wide.

"Off to the medics and then jail," Agent Rainwalker smirked. The other agents took the two men from the heroes. The next step was to make sure their quarry made the trip successfully to ARGUS headquarters to be contained.

"Did that seem too easy?" Kara asked M'gann.

"Are you serious? We've been chasing this crazy lady for so long I don't even remember when we started," the Martian gave her a look.

"This woman has a lot of irons in the fire," her friend pointed out.

"Well let's make sure she doesn't anymore," M'gann said.
