A/N: Each chapter won't be set in the order of Gwen's age. Like this chapter, she's sixteen but in the next chapter she could be fourteen depending on her timeline.
I was so pissed and hurt that my face was red, not the usual pink. So it all started when I met this boy. Yeah, this is already starting to sound cliché. Call me Taylor Swift if you want, but I'm not that trope of a blonde, okay?
Anyway back to the topic, I met this guy who was from L.A. (not my kind of city). The average height of a seventeen-year-old boy but not exactly what he seemed. A bit of a nerd, but despite nerds not being my type I still liked him. The glasses were a bit lanky, but dangerously bad (Not going to lie but dangerously is part of my taste in boys) Any who…
I met a group of kids who were 'special', like superpowered kind of 'special'. They didn't fight crime in costumes and masks, no. They were in a battle with their parents. I said something like:
"Oh, okay?"
Turns out their parents were killers. Sacrificing innocent people in their f* up rituals. It's more sick than it sounds. So I agreed to help them on the condition that Asian Sabrina over there teleports me back.
She's a witch, Nico Minoru I think. One of them seemed intrigued with me, and another was impressed I had powers AND fought like a superhero.
"Is there a way I can get a sewing machine? I could be your sidekick?" She asked, Molly was the girl's name. SUPER strong. Almost Venom's level.
I was amazed to see they had an actual dinosaur, controlled by purple-haired Gertrude. The blondie whose skin glows all glittery is Karolina Dean. Shock Gloves is Chase and the other dude is Alex Wilder.
Alex is the guy I'm talking about, he has leadership and is the brains behind the missions. I don't date nerds but damn do I like leaders! He seemed lanky to me…or so I thought. Because I didn't know where everyone slept, I just walked around viewing the place. I was in an abandoned mansion underground. Cool aye?
So as I was walking around I noticed a room, that seemed to have a mattress. As I walked in I noticed Alex…shirtless. He was putting a shirt on but I noticed he's got nice abs…and I didn't think to walk away in time. He noticed and I walked away (didn't unmask myself yet), trying to hide my face with the hood.
Later when Alex was discussing a new mission he told me what I'd be needed for: Stealth.
They needed files, the type to lock up their parents for good. Damn…this resentment is on a whole new level. Parents or not, they were criminals who deserved jail time.
As all the kids were preparing, I decided to go outside for fresh air. I never knew how refreshing the outdoors were, away from city life. "Ah…so there's something I need to ask you", Alex Wilder spoke from behind me. I may have squeaked a little. A little okay!
He approached me slowly, I lowkey wished he saw me rolling my eyes. "I don't bite…I think", I said in a teasing tone. He chuckled a bit, "So, about earlier today—"
"I'm sorry, I just didn't know where I was going…but you shouldn't cover it!" I blurted the second part out.
"What?" Alex asked baffled. I pointed at his stomach area. He looked at the part of him I was touching then at me. "Yeah…" He dragged. "Forget you saw that".
"What?! Why?!"
"Maybe I don't want people to know the same way you don't go spidering with no mask".
"Ha…touché Wilder", I was trying to keep out the urge to unmask myself but…oh what the hell! "You can join us you know", I said.
"What?"
"There's a whole community of superpowered folk all over the world if you hadn't noticed. Most of them are literally from other universes. You and your friends should join too".
Alex looked ahead with a sniff, "No". He said. I raised my lenses. "Why?"
"I don't think my team would want to wear spandex and masks. And we also don't want to go by codenames".
"Oh hardy haha", I remarked sarcastically. "That may be possible but you could have a home in the tower. Better food and you'd be able to help people".
Alex just eyed me with interest. "How old are you?"
"Seventeen, you?"
"No way. You're giving away that information to someone you don't know?"
I'm sure I was smirking even if he couldn't tell. "You are saving lives from your criminal parents. You wouldn't be doing something that heroic if you were a bad guy yourself".
"You're right, I wouldn't…"
I sat down and Alex sat with me. He clicked his tongue as he was about to speak. "Since you know I'm fit, how much do you exercise?"
"Not as much. Though I do go to the gym".
This was nice, talking to Alex. Turns out we fit even though we didn't have much in common. He would talk about gaming and I would ask him which characters he preferred to use. He'd ask me stuff about rock music. Alex and I were laughing like we needed this kind of friendly talk.
"Hey Alex, I want to ask you something", I said before I gulped. "You wouldn't mind dating me if you joined my team right? You could be our hacking weapon".
Alex looked at me seriously. "If I see your face, then I'll consider it". I made a deep inhale and started to pull up the neck of my mask. I know it can dematerialize itself, it's a symbiote, but I don't think Alex needed to know that. This may be a bad idea, a dumb one but my hand was already revealing the lower half of my face until…
"Hey! Love birds, dinner's ready", Chase called.
I was in my room but I overheard Alex talking to Nico and Chase, so I shifted into camouflage mode. They were saying something about me.
"Are you sure we can trust her? She won't even show us her face!" Chase argued.
"She was about to show me before you interrupted".
"Yeah, that's because she likes you. We could use that to our advantage", Nico planned.
"Hey, strategy is my thing!" Alex retorted.
"That's not a bad idea", Chase agreed, ignoring Alex's comment.
"I…think she has ulterior motives for you guys", Alex said. I thought 'What ulterior motives?!'
"She wants you guys to become stereotypical supermen working for a government".
I silently nodded in disappointment. I retreated to my room. I am so stupid, I should've known they were those kinds of entitled brats.
The next day we all started the mission. I had already webbed all the guards, Nico put a spell on cameras, Molly and Chase took out the guards and tied them up. Gert was distracting the receptionist. Karolina took out some of the laser-shooting drones. I didn't know their parents' company spent so much money on such advanced tech.
I helped take out whoever was in the surveillance room, so I could unlock a room holding the evidence they needed to give to the cops. "The guards just left the saferoom, I just pressed the 'open sesame' button but you'll need to hurry because Nico's spell won't last forever". Alex was headed inside the safe room to get the files.
I had just unplugged all the electric sockets of the cameras, knowing the staff wouldn't be able to recover footage of our heist. "Ah…this is going smoothly. Just like the spy movies".
"Ghost, head to the sixth floor. I got the files", Alex ordered. Don't know why but I was beaming with the eagerness of meeting up with him. I ran down and saw the guy.
"We should swing out of here before your parents arrive", I suggested as I walked up to Alex who just gave an alluring smirk.
I noticed something off about him. I was about to ask when he freaking shot me with a futuristic gun. "What the hell…" I grunted.
"Bye, bye Gwen", he chuckled, I was so confused. Then as I looked at my wound I heard some 'swoosh' sound and looked up to find Alex coming towards me with worry. Feeling angry, I punched him. He fell back and looked at me with surprise. With the nerve to say 'What the hell', when I said I should be asking that.
I shifted my mask to reveal my face, "How do you know my name? Why did you shoot me?"
Alex was at a loss for words, I crouched down, pulling him up by the collar, and had my fist ready to punch. "You're not making any sense!"
"You already know who I am! So here's my face A-hole!"
Nico came running in and saw the commotion. She muttered a spell and the next thing I knew I was on top of a billboard in San Francisco.
So yeah, I was pissed like you would not believe, but I gave him what he wanted. So if we ever bump into each other again, he'll know I won't be nice.
