Chapter 11

Morgan watched from her spot on the ship James working on his hands and knees his dark hair showing due to him scrubbing the deck with his wig. She let out a soft breath as she tied a line down.

Bonnie came up to her daughter slowly. "Yer father was going to work him hard, you knew that…"

"But hands and knees mother?" She questioned softly looking at her mother with a worried gaze in her eyes.

"Well, perhaps not this hard." Bonnie said letting out a soft breath.

"I have a feeling that Father's plan isn't going to work… we don't have enough crewmembers…"

Bonnie let out a breath shaking her head lightly. "As much as he wants to save his skin he might not be able to do it this time. Even I have doubts that he'll get out of it."

"You never have doubts of father…"

Bonnie patted her daughter's shoulder. "Talk to him…"

"Who?"

"James." She mused softly.

"Mother… he's working…"

"He could use a break. Just talk to him." She said nudging her daughter towards James.

Morgan let out a breath and slowly went towards James grabbing a mop from one of the others that was using it.

"Hey."

Morgan gave him a nasty look which caused him to back away from her. She continued on her way to James. "James." She said softly.

James looked up seeing Morgan there with a mop in her hands.

"Get up…" She said softly gesturing him to stand up.

James slowly got up to his feet.

"Father shouldn't be having you use your wig on the deck…" She said shaking her head lightly before handing him the mop. "Here… better than having aching bones."

James looked down for a moment as he slowly took the mop from her. "Thought that you would still be in Port Royal."

Morgan let out a soft breath. "I've been hearing a lot of that lately…" She said leaning against the rail and letting out a soft breath again. "I thought that I would fit in there… but with Elizbeth being busy with her wedding to Will… and you have gone… I suppose I didn't fit in."

"You could've if you wanted to."

"And what would I have? A single life in Port Royal… with a man who god knows where…"

"You were waiting for me?" He questioned looking up at her with a curious gaze. He wasn't expecting her to wait for him.

"I was. But when you didn't return… I left… was able to find the Pearl and rejoin the crew…"

James' lips quirked slightly. "Why wait for me?"

"Because you were the only one that had the decency to think that I would be worth something more than a pirate. But I suppose that was just a dream…" She shook her head lightly. "I suppose I am to be a pirate and nothing more than that… at least it is something that I know how to do." She turned away from him. "Use the mop… and ignore what my father says." She said softly before walking away.

PIRATES

Elizabeth chased after Jack who was idly looking at the letters. "How dare you!"

"These Letters of Marque are supposed to go to me, are they not?" Jack looked at the bottom of them rather stunned to see that they were signed. "There's a signature."

"Yes, they are signed. Sir Cutler Beckett, of the East India Trading Company."

Bonnie froze at the moment looking at her husband with a worried gaze.

Jack noticed his wife looking at him as well as his first mate Gibbs. He nodded his head. "Beckett."

"Will was working for Beckett?" Gibbs questioned rather surprised at hearing this news.

"And never said a word of it."

"Beckett wants the Compass. Only one reason he would want the Compass -"

"He's after the chest." The three of them said at the same time.

Jack looked to Elizabeth for confirmation of what they were saying.

Elizabeth chewed the inside of her cheek knowing that there was no way to hide from this. "Beckett ... may have said something about a chest."

Bonnie let out a soft groan shaking her head lightly. "Jackie… If the Company controls the chest, they'll control the sea!"

"A discomfiting notion." Jack said angrily towards Elizabeth not liking the idea that she knew that something was up.

"And bad! Bad for every mother's son what calls himself "pirate!" I think there's a bit more speed to be coaxed out of these sails." Gibbs said moving away from them.

"May I inquire as to how you came by these?" Jack questioned looking at Elizabeth.

"Persuasion."

"Friendly?"

"Decidedly not."

"Funny thing. Will strikes a deal for these and upholds it with honor. But you're the one standing here with the prize."

Elizabeth looked at Jack taken aback by what he was saying.

"Full pardon ... commission as a privateer on behalf of England and the East India Trading Company."

James looked up hearing that and continues to swab the deck with the mop that Morgan had given to him.

Jack stuffed them into his jacket. "As if I could be bought, not for this low of a price. Fate worse than death, living a life like that."

"Jack. The letters? Give them back."

"Persuade me."

"You do know Will taught me how to handle a sword."

"As I said - persuade me." Jack said with a grin.

Bonnie grabbed her husband's arm before smacking him as Elizabeth walked away.

"Ow."

"You deserve more than that hit." Bonnie hissed out. "Openly flirting to her when you're married. You have no shame." She said storming away from him.

"Oy, Bonnie." He said swaggering after her knowing that it wasn't a good thing to have an angry wife. Because it always meant bad things when Bonnie was upset with him. She was his life beside the sea. He couldn't help but wonder why his wife put up with him and his ways. Perhaps she truly did love him and that was just it. She was there because she loved him. She could have left him anytime but never did.
