Well, this is non-standard for me. So how can this be Miraculous fanfiction, multi-fandom and an original work at the same time? Here's how: just about every character you're going to see here is original. The plot itself is completely unrelated to that of Miraculous. But the story is going to reference events, items, characters etc. from a whole bunch of different works. I tagged it under Miraculous because the Miraculouses show up and they're the most important items in the story, that the characters will use all the time. But other than that, as I've said before, they'll come across items, locations etc. from other works from time to time. Let's see if you can catch all the different references. Some of them will be obvious, others less so.

The 26 years old Cote Miller sits in the midst of his interview for a position as an Auror in the Brimstone Society, the special operations structure of the Romanian Ministry of Magic. His dark blond hair and green eyes have captured the attention of some of the ladies in Human Resources, but it is his impressive experience that truly stands out.

Despite his limited social skills, Cote's extraordinary abilities are clearly demonstrated on his resume.

Director Rachel Silas, a blonde-haired woman with hazel eyes who heads Brimstone, reviews Cote's resume with a discerning gaze. "It says here that you started undergoing Jedi training at the age of 5. As far as I've heard, the Jedi wouldn't have accepted for someone to join their Order at 5; one would have had to start their training much earlier than that. Could you explain how that happened?"

"Yes, it's kind of a long story," Cote begins, his tone steady. "I wasn't an official member of the Jedi Order, they never planned to send me on any missions, but I did undergo basic Jedi training. By the time the Jedi had found out about me, I was already 5. But according to them, I had some sort of dangerous power that they had never seen before, and it would have been dangerous for them to leave that unattended. So they didn't have much of a choice but to give me just enough training to be able to handle it."

"I see," says Rachel, nodding as she takes in his explanation. "And it says here that when you turned 11, you returned to Earth and started attending the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

"Right. I was sorted into Ravenclaw," Cote confirms.

Rachel continues to scrutinise his resume. "And during your time at Hogwarts, you have done freelance work as a monster hunter. It says here that your speciality are hostile vampires. How did you specialise in hunting hostile vampires at such a young age?"

"My partner during my freelance work was dampfyr," Cote begins to explain. "She taught me everything I need to know about fighting vampires."

Rachel looks at Cote with a puzzled expression. "Dampfyr? What exactly does that mean?"

"It's a vampiric term for a human-vampire hybrid. They have all the powers of a vampire, except for siring one of their own, and none of the weaknesses. So they don't need lapis lazuli rings to withstand sunlight, large bodies of water, or divine magic, and they can live off of human food just as well as off of vampire food."

The explanation leaves Rachel looking even more curious. "So are there any hostile dampfyrs out there? Because it sounds like they are more powerful than vampires."

"Not many," answers Cote. "Dampfyrs are not very well liked by hostile vampires because hostile vampires don't like humans. So the fact that dampfyrs come from one vampire parent and one human parent doesn't align with their ideology of blood purity. Every now and then you might run into a dampfyr who sided with the hostiles and managed to get accepted among them, but usually they're on our side."

"Why would hostile vampires accept dampfyrs if they don't like them?" Rachel inquires.

"They like the abilities of dampfyrs," Cote explains. "Not that there's anyone who doesn't. Vampire society as a whole has been trying to come up with a method to create turned dampfyrs for centuries, and since the end of the war 8 years ago, the human society joined in, as that would be beneficial for everyone involved. Most humans can't adapt to vampire life, so that would grant them immortality with none of the downsides of living as a vampire. And vampires would have a way to eliminate their weaknesses, so everyone's quality of life improves here. But of course, hostile vampires would like that idea too, because that would make them more powerful and give them a better fighting chance against the general population."

Rachel looks even more intrigued. "But they haven't succeeded yet, have they?"

"Of course not," Cote responds. "Otherwise we would've all made ourselves immortal by now."

Rachel examines the resume further. "I must say, you have quite an impressive list of achievements, and so many of them are from before you even graduated Hogwarts. It says here that you've also been in two teams of Power Rangers, one of which was a project coordinated by Trowel Industries, the most important megacorporation in the magical world. So who was your supervisor during this project?"

"The CEO himself, Morien Sinrel," Cote answers.

"He's a quite well-known figure," Rachel comments. "Especially from his involvement in vampire politics; as far as I know, he became the ruler of the Vampiric Empire after the war and unified humans and vampires. Well, that explains how you know so much about vampire society. But how did Trowel Industries determine you were fit to join their project at 15 years old?"

"When they found out I had already been a Power Ranger before that, they had me take a test in their Operative Potential Measurement System," Cote replies.

Rachel's interest deepens. "I've heard of that machine before, but I don't know all the intricate details of the testing process. Could you elaborate on that?"

"It's a room that uses artificial intelligence to create ultra-realistic full-dive virtual reality simulations of situations that one could encounter during a mission, things like combat, stealth, or investigation. So the candidate goes through 100 simulations, each one testing a different ability: strength, speed, adaptability and so on. Each simulation is graded with a score from 0 to 100, and at the end, the final score, provided it's a passing one, determines the candidate's operative class," Cote explains.

"That is interesting, no doubt about it," Rachel remarks. "So what class did you get?"

"S-class," Cote answers.

Rachel looks at him, puzzled. "S-class? As far as I know, their machine only grades passing candidates with C, B, and A classes."

"There's S-class too. It's reserved for those who get a perfect score on every simulation," Cote clarifies.

"That sounds like a difficult task; it makes sense why I've never heard of S-class operatives before. Do you happen to know how many candidates have been graded as S-class?"

"Just two," Cote responds. "And I'm one of them."

"Well, that concludes our interview," says Rachel as she stands up, clearly impressed by the discussion. "It just so happens that the Ministry has been planning a project regarding the investigation of recent hostile vampire activity, which has been assigned to the Brimstone Society. I would say it's fairly obvious that you're exactly the person we need for this position."

Cote stands as well. "I won't disappoint you, Director Silas."

"I didn't even imagine you would. And one more thing, just call me Rachel. Titles make me feel old. Now, follow me to the training chamber, where I will present you with your new weapon."

Cote follows Rachel to the Ministry's training chamber. Once inside, Rachel presents him with a small black box. "This is what you will be using for the duration of this project."

Cote opens the box to reveal a black ring composed of two overlapping bands: the outer one black, and the inner one glowing with energy of various colours. "What's this?"

"A very powerful and very dangerous artefact," Rachel explains. "This is the Ring of the Black Cat, the Miraculous of Destruction. It takes a great deal of magical skill to control its power, and you are the only person I have come across that I can be certain possesses such skill."

Cote takes the ring and puts it on the ring finger of his left hand. Once the ring is securely placed on his finger, it changes its appearance. Now, instead of the multicoloured glowing band in the centre, the ring displays a metallic band coloured with a rainbow effect. "I've heard of this before. Wasn't it supposed to be powered by some kind of spirit?"

"The original, yes," answers Rachel. "However, there is an organisation that has managed to replicate the Miraculous of Destruction, and they were kind enough to entrust us with it. What you are looking at now is a replica just as powerful as the original, but entirely self-sufficient. It doesn't need a spirit to operate."

Cote looks at Rachel, intrigued by the information. "That's unexpected. Who even managed to replicate something like that?"

"Only the Minister knows," Rachel replies. "Our partners have chosen to remain anonymous, for their own safety as well as ours."

Cote finds that even more confusing. "Why would they want to be anonymous?"

Rachel leans against a nearby console, considering her words carefully. "The organisation that replicated the Miraculous of Destruction also created the Miraculous of Creation, the Rings of the Ladybug. When both Miraculouses are controlled at the same time, the bearer can make a wish that rewrites reality. That's an immense power we need to keep out of the wrong hands."

Cote's eyes widen. "So, by staying anonymous, they're reducing the risk of drawing unwanted attention."

"Exactly," Rachel confirms. "They're trying to avoid any potential threats or attempts to steal or misuse the Miraculouses. Their anonymity is a protective measure to keep these artefacts safe and avoid disaster."

Cote nods, understanding. "That makes sense. It's a smart approach given the stakes."

Rachel gestures for Cote to stand in the centre of the training chamber. "Now, let's get started with your training on the Ring of the Black Cat. The ring's power is considerable, and you'll need to master it quickly if you're to perform effectively in your new role."

Cote nods, his expression resolute. "I'm ready."

Rachel's eyes soften with approval. "First, let's cover the basics. To activate the ring's power and transform into your suited form, you'll need to use the incantation 'Claws out'. This will grant you a suit with cat motifs that enhances your physical abilities and protects you from harm."

Cote looks down at the ring on his finger. "Understood. How do I deactivate the suit?"

"To revert to your regular form, simply say 'Claws in'. This will dispel the suit and return you to your normal appearance."

Cote takes a deep breath. "Got it. What about the other abilities?"

Rachel's gaze turns serious. "The ring has one particularly destructive ability: Cataclysm. When activated, it generates a field of destructive energy in the hand that the ring is worn on. You can use this to destroy whatever you touch, whether through accelerated decay, instantaneous breaking, or turning it to dust. It's a potent power, so use it wisely."

Cote raises his hand, feeling the weight of the ring. "Alright, let's start with the transformation."

"Excellent," Rachel says, stepping back. "Whenever you're ready."

Cote raises his hand, focuses, and clearly says, "Claws out!"

In an instant, the ring begins to glow with a dark, pulsating energy. The light envelops Cote, and his everyday clothes transform into a sleek, black suit adorned with subtle cat motifs. The suit fits snugly around him, and a pair of black cat ears appear on his head. His eyes, now hidden behind a sleek mask, glow faintly in the dim light of the chamber.

Cote moves his arms and legs, testing the enhanced agility and strength of the suit. The suit feels surprisingly light yet incredibly robust. "This is amazing," he remarks.

"Remember, the suit will also use quantum masking to protect your identity," Rachel explains. "No one will be able to notice any physical resemblance between your suited form and your regular self, though they might still deduce your identity."

Cote nods in understanding. "And now, for Cataclysm."

Rachel nods approvingly. "Take your time. Focus on the energy you want to unleash."

Cote extends his hand, concentrating on the ring. He focuses intently and then clearly says, "Cataclysm!"

A field of dark, crackling energy appears around Cote's hand. The power radiates with intense heat, and he can feel the sheer force contained within it. He approaches a small, reinforced block of concrete positioned in the centre of the room.

Carefully, Cote touches the block with his hand. Immediately, it begins to crumble and disintegrate, breaking apart into fine dust. The energy field dissipates as he withdraws his hand, leaving a cloud of debris behind.

Rachel observes the demonstration with a nod of approval. "You've got the hang of it. The destructive power of the Cataclysm is formidable, and you wield it with precision. Just remember to use it judiciously. This is no mere destructive spell, it is the essence of deatruction itself. With the power of this ring, you are everything there is and no longer will be."

Cote looks at the dust and debris, then at his now-normal hand. "This is incredible. I can see how useful this will be for the mission."

Rachel smiles, satisfied with the training session. "You're well-prepared. Keep practising, and you'll master the ring's abilities in no time. We'll be relying on you for the upcoming investigation into the hostile vampire activity."

"Thank you, Rachel," Cote says, taking off the suit as he returns to his regular form. "I won't let you down."

Rachel offers a reassuring smile. "I'm confident you won't. Welcome to the Brimstone Society, Cote."

With the training session complete, Rachel turns towards Cote, her expression once again serious. "Before we finish up, there's one more thing to address. I believe you're already familiar with the Sokovia Accords?"

Cote nods. "Yes, I know about them. It's the international agreement for registering and regulating enhanced individuals."

"Correct," Rachel affirms. "As part of those regulations, you'll need to register with the Romanian Government as an enhanced individual. It's a formality, but it ensures that your activities are legally sanctioned and monitored. You will operate under the codename Cat Noir"

Cote considers it for a moment, then nods in agreement. "Got it"

Rachel steps closer, her voice direct but encouraging. "Good. Tomorrow, make sure you visit the Government building to finalise your registration. It's a straightforward process, but it's essential before you can start field operations."

Cote's expression turns resolute. "Understood. I'll take care of it first thing."

Rachel gives a satisfied nod. "Once that's done, we can focus entirely on the mission. You've got a lot of potential, Cote, and I'm confident you'll be a valuable asset."
